something something both mina and lucy describe their love for each other before and during the time they spend talking about the men they love. lucy frames her exclamations of how much she loves arthur between a description of her love & longing for mina. mina begins her letter by telling lucy (in a very poetic way for an otherwise relatively pragmatic person) how she longs to be with her & talk freely, before she moves on to her plans for the future with jonathan

Skull appreciation post (jumbled thoughts bc I just binged listening to the audiobook version of Jonathan Stroud's Lockwood & Co. series)
I love how powerful Skull is. But first, some parallels (and differences) between the Luce&Skull and the Marissa&Ezekiel duos.
Marissa found Ezekiel when she was young. She adores him. But she also fears him. Tbh it kinda seems like he took advantage of her. They bonded. Maybe Marissa was always curious about what was beyond life, but Ezekiel's been hanging around her since she was a young child, and all the research she did? All the actions that led to the Problem? She did all that under Ezekiel's advice and guidance.
And yes, Ezekiel's a Type 3, and sure he's got a golden aura, and oh he's so special, but at the end of the day, it's all just appearance.
Yes, he's powerful, fine, he's smart too, but when compared to the Skull n Lucy combo, he's an insecure Type 3 ghost who was honestly kinda creepy and predatory and took advantage/really tapped into/maybe even developed Marissa's curiosity about the other side. He throws his weight around about being dead and knowing what to do to escape death, clearly calls the shots in his relationship with Marissa, and has developed a god complex of sorts in thinking that because he knows how to blur the boundary between the living and the dead, he's the strongest thing around.
Well, thank goodness there's Skull to prove him wrong.
I LOVE the Skull-Lucy relationship. My favorite part (which is very important) is that Lucy didn't free Skull because she needed him, she freed him because she wanted to. She made her decision after Lockwood had come and helped get things in hand. Even though she was confident things were in hand and didn't know just how instrumental Skull would be in staying alive, she freed him without any condition imposed on him.
She didn't free him so long as he helped her.
She didn't free him so long as he didn't kill her or any of her friends.
She didn't free him out of a tenuous trust that he'd be on her side.
Lucy freed Skull (I think) because something that had been dawning on her this whole time really clicked into place: considering the origins of agents, dealing with ghosts, capturing their sources, and just in general interfering with the existence of the dead (thank you, Big M, for all that), combined with the fact that she got a taste of Skull's existence what with being trapped in the other world (as Skull pointed out), Lucy's sense of empathy took over and she did what she thought was right. She let Skull go because he's got an existence of his own, too.
He's not an abstract idea or apparition, no, he's Skull, a thin, sardonic looking youth with spiky hair. He's someone who in life was awful, but spent so much time in death that he forgot who he was, despite being so stubborn about clinging to life, coming back as a ghost, and NOT crossing over fully to the other *dead* dead place.
He's got personality and endless ideas about murder. He kept Lucy company for the four months she was apart from Lockwood. He became her friend. He helped her in scrapes. He guided her back to life the first time she crossed over.
Maybe the difference in the Marissa&Ezekiel and Lucy&Skull is circumstance: Marissa met Ezekiel out in the wild. It ways in TEG at one point that there's an aspect of fear in their dynamic. His source list contained, unlike Skull. Ezekiel can cause so much more harm to Marissa than Skull could when contained in the jar to Lucy throughout the time they spent together needed to develop a relationship.
But that's not the main thing. Marissa depends on Ezekiel. Lucy is fond of Skull, but depends? No.
Marissa is basically in love with Ezekiel. Lucy? She's got Lockwood. She doesn't need Skull on that front.
Marissa is literally obsessed with golden ghost boy. Lucy sees the wider picture. She likes Skull, but he's not the end all be all.
But going back to appearances, well that's kinda what it's all about, isn't it? Marissa cares deeply about her image. And so too does Ezekiel. Why doesn't she keep Skull? He's rude. Ezekiel thinks him a criminal. Neither can see past his exterior, thus completely missing out on just how powerful he is.
And then there's Skull.
For all that Skull jokes about killing George and (honestly kinda understandably) dislikes him, he sees him for what he is - an effective researcher who doesn't judge anyone for how they look or behave.
Skull sees people for who they are. He sees right through Marissa's disguise as Penelope (side note, it is SO messed up that Marissa offed both her daughter and her granddaughter to keep on living, like his awful is that). He's perceptive. He knows about Locklyle even before they do.
But back to Skull's strength, which was the impetus of this long ramble. He gets out of his jar basically in disbelief. Because this is Lucy, the wretched girl who doesn't keep her promises to him to speak about his freedom, this awful living person who's left him behind time and time again.
But for every mistake she's made, she's also tried her best to right it. Every time she left Skull somewhere, she went back for him. He even got a heartfelt apology from her when she left him behind and Rupert got his hands on Skull.
This is the girl who looked past his rudeness. Who wasn't someone under the honeyed thumb of a different ghost. Who gave him a chance and let him out not because she needed him or hoped he'd be on her side. This is the girl who ket him out knowing full well Skull would do as he pleased and made her peace with it.
Because unlike Marissa and Ezekiel who are inextricably tied together and dependent on each other, Lucy is Lucy and Skull is Skull.
And when he does come to Lucy's aid, well, he's barely even exerting himself. I love him so much.
There.

I wanna take things slow. Go on this date, maybe a second date, have our first real kiss. I just don't think we should jump into bed together, just because we know each other so well, right? I mean, do you…? No, I -- Agreed.
| ANATOMY OF A SCENE - CHENFORD EDITION 5.10 - The List
The opening sequence was not just a celebration of Tim and Lucy's story : it fully helped set the tone for their first date. All that nervous energy that was so palpable when they were getting ready, carried on at the restaurant. But not even their awkwardness can stop the scene from being riveting. As a matter of fact, it adds to the reality of the situation. The way they can barely look at each other without either smiling or giggling like teenagers on their first date is adorable. So is the way they struggle to make small talks when it has never been an issue for them. Or how, after Tim is shamelessly checking her out, Lucy does her little wiggle, the one she often makes when she can barely contain her excitement. This is so far from the type of awkwardness that emanated from Tim's first date with Rachel or during the double date with Ashley. In this case, this is due to the importance of this date, as showcased in that first segment… and as reflected by the choice of restaurant : the most romantic one in town.
Besides, this new tension between them doesn't even last long before Lucy addresses it. Tim's reaction is particularly noteworthy : the panic that she might already regret this is crystal clear. He's looking like a deer in the headlights for a second, visibly gulping… But it is also poignant that he's just as nervous and lets her see it. And admits how different this dinner is for them. His dorkiness is absolutely delightful. I don't know which part is better : the fact that he blurts naked times or his immediate reaction after saying that aloud. Either way, it does make Lucy laugh and cut through that tension between them. It allows them to fall back on familiar grounds with her teasing… But, most importantly, it also sparks a crucial conversation. It gives Lucy the opportunity to voice her desire and need to take things slow. Her voice gets significantly softer at this point, revealing her nervousness. But she doesn't back down either. She's so much more self-assured and assertive here than she was in her relationship with Chris, especially towards the end. And the way Tim listens to her intently, smiling at her checklist, and goes softer at the allusion of their first real kiss is just as significant. This is exactly what was missing from their previous relationships : Tim pays attention to what she says, reassures her when she's a bit uncertain and Lucy makes sure to check how he feels on the matter. They've always balanced each other so well at work… And they're now ensuring that it translates to their romance as well.
I, for one, appreciate their choice of taking things slow. At least, for the beginning. Not just because that means we get to see this part… But because of how they clearly want to proceed with caution and care. Their almost hook-up nearly cost them their friendship and changed their dynamic for a while. So it is perfectly understandable that Lucy would want to approach this differently, to guarantee that this time, they get this right. To preserve what they already have - their unique bond - and build from there. Add from it without losing anything. Her list is pretty straightforward : have a first date, then another one, a first real kiss… Those are early and simple milestones. But important ones. And while at first glance, it might seem that she's afraid to commit, in reality it shows how she wants to treat their relationship with the reverence they both deserve.
Besides, there's one more reason as to why taking things slow is a good idea : the issue of the chain of command at work remains. And it is immediately illustrated with how nervous Tim gets at the idea of someone from the station walking in the restaurant. Something that Lucy obviously understands as she doesn't even take umbrage and goes back to teasing him instead. The fact that she even suggests that they should come clean the morning after just reinforces how different this relationship is for her. For Tim as well, considering how he's trying his best to ignore the growing fight in the kitchen or how he looks disappointed when he hears the sirens… They are committed to this relationship and are all-in… and this is reflected in the director's choice to start the episode with their first date and end it with the second one. With their first real kiss, completing the checklist.

Chenford + Lucy gets hurt during the secret dating era and Tim cant contain how worried he is
Chenford + Lucy gets hurt during the secret dating era and Tim cant contain how worried he is
I’m not sure what everyone else considers the secret dating era but personally I consider it up until the Valentine’s Day episode where their friends clearly knew. So this one is before that.
That nothing safe is worth the drive and I will Follow you, follow you home
It’s not like people don’t know that Tim cares about Lucy, but they don’t know how deep those feelings actually go. He knows that’s it’s only a matter of time before people find out they are dating but they have for the most part been doing pretty good. They keep their distance at work no matter how many times Tim wants to go over and walk besides her. They don’t normally ride in together and if they do they go in at separate times. It’s a pain but it’s worth it, Lucy is worth it.
But Tim knows there will be a breaking point and he guesses today is the day. The call comes in on the radio as Tim is driving to a scene with one of the metro guys. And Aaron’s voice comes in loud and clear over the radio. Tim grips the steering wheel, and he tries to ignore the fact that his heart feels like it’s going to jump out of his chest.
“We need an RA to the scene. Officer Chen has been shot.” Aaron voice says. Tim nearly runs into the car in front of him.
“Sir are you alright?” Mad Dog asks him. Tim doesn’t answer right away, he’s not sure he can talk without giving anything away.
“I’m fine.” He bites out. “Just my former Rookie.” My girlfriend. Mad Dog looks at him strangely.
“Didn’t know you cared about your former rookie so much sarge.” He says. And if Tim wasn’t on the verge of a panic attack he would retort back. He continues driving and before he knows it he’s pulling into the hospital parking lot.
He ignores Mad Dog’s look and he gets out of the shop. “Sir.” Says Mad Dog his voice cautious. “We need to get to—”
“You go.” Tim snaps. He just needed to make sure Lucy was okay. He wouldn’t be able to focus if he didn’t at least see her. He would deal with Pine later.
Mad Dog climbs out of the shop and heads towards Tim. His face determined. “I will go with you.”
But Tim shakes his head, “No. You go to the scene. I- need to do this by myself.” He says. “There’s no need for both of us to get in trouble.” Mad Dog hesitates but nods and heads to the drivers side of the shop. Tim waits until he is gone and then he heads towards the emergency room.
He spots Aaron first and his heart nearly jumps out of his chest again when he’s sees his white shirt covered in blood.
“Thorsen.” Tim barks and the younger man jumps at his voice. Tim stands in front of him and looks at him expectantly.
“What’s the status on Chen?” He says his voice shaking a bit. Aaron sighs.
“She’s in surgery. The bullet just missed a main artery. She’s going to be fine.” He says. Tim closes his eyes. Thank god. But his chest still feels tight and he knows that it won’t go away until he sees Lucy with his own eyes.
“Sir what are you doing here?” Aaron asks him. Tim looks up at him words whirling around in his head.
“I heard it over the radio.” He says. “Lucy is important to me.” Aaron looks like he wants to say something. But he clamps his mouth shut. Smart man.
His phone buzzes and he answers already knowing who it is. “Bradford.” Pine barks. “Why aren’t you on scene?”
Tim takes a deep breath, ready to reveal his relationship with Lucy to Pine.
“I just need to be here.” He says. “Officer Chen was shot.”
Pine makes a noise over the phone. “Understood. You get one pass Bradford next time I won’t be so nice.” She says sternly.
Tim sucks in a breath and he wonders if Mad Dog told Pine about how panicked he was in the shop. “Yes ma’am understood.” He says. Pine hangs up without saying goodbye and Tim turns back to Aaron.
“I guess we just wait.” He says. Aaron nods and Tim sits down in a chair. He puts his face in his hands and sucks in another breath. He just got Lucy after so many months of denial and pushing down feelings. After the UC op, and Ashley breaking up with him. He finally was brave enough to admit he wanted her. And she wanted him back. He couldn’t lose her. He’s not sure he would survive if he did.
Someone sits down next to him and he feels a hand on his back. He looks up to see Angela looking at him sympathetically.
“Tim.” She says quietly. He just shakes his head at her. He suspects Angela knows but her being well her.. she wasn’t going to admit until they came clean.
“It’s Lucy.” He whispers. Angela hums and runs a hand up his back and then down again. “How can I not worry?”
Angela hums again. “I know Tim.” She says quietly. “Believe me.” Tim doesn’t say anything else he just puts his head between his legs blinking back the tears.
It feels like an eternity before the surgeon came out. “Family of Lucy Chen.” He calls out. Tim jumps up without thinking.
“I’m her medical proxy.” He says. “Timothy Bradford.” The surgeon looks at him curiously, and the nods his head.
“Okay.” He says slowly. “The surgery was successful. We managed to get the bullet out and stop the bleeding. She is still asleep, but you can go in.” Tim is bouncing nervously on his toes.
“Can I-” He glances back at Aaron and Angela who are both standing behind him. “Can I see her please?”
The surgeon nods and leads him away to her room. He peeks in his heart pounding. She looks so small in the end and she’s covered in wires. Her eyes are closed and her hair is swept to the side. He pulls up a chair and grabs her hand rubs her hand.
“Lucy.” He says his voice shaking. “I was so worried. I did a very Un Bradford thing and rushed here. And you will either tease me or be mad at me but I don’t care. I just needed to see you.” Lucy doesn’t wake but Tim keeps talking. He talks until his throat his dry and he lays his head down next to her. He closes his eyes falling to sleep to the sound of her steady breathing.
***
Tim wakes up to fingers combing through his hair. He looks up to see Lucy staring at him her eyes tired.
“Hi.” He says his voice rough with sleep. He scoots closer to her, still holding her hand. “How long have you been up?”
“Just woke up.” She mutters. “And it was a pleasant surprise to wake up to my boyfriend beside me.” Tim smiles at boyfriend.
“Why aren’t you at work?” She asks. He scoffs and rubs his thumb across her palm.
“You know better than anyone I wouldn’t be able to concentrate knowing that you were hurt.” He says. Lucy hums and reaches up to cup his face.
“I know.” She says her eyes searching his face. “I’m glad you are here.” He stands up and bends over to kiss her softly. She reaches up to hold him in place despite still being attached to the IV and other machines.
“I was worried.” He says. She makes a soft noise and pulls him down to kiss her. It’s soft and slow and it’s much like their real first kiss.
“I hate that you were worried.” She mutters.
He kisses her again. He can’t seem to get enough of her now that he knows she’s okay. “I will always be worried about you Lucy.”
“Mmhmm.” Says Lucy. He puts his forehead against hers and breathes her in. They stay like that for a minute before there’s a cough from behind them. Tim jumps back and looks behind him to see Angela standing at the doorway with a smug look on her face.
“Aaron owns me fifty dollars.” She says. Tim rolls his eyes at her. And then leans down to kiss Lucy again feeling like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

Chenford + nucy reveal!
“Nolan?”
She schools her emotions because as much as she wants to laugh, she can’t quite tell if this is actually a ha-ha moment or if he’s upset. He’s just staring back at her in disbelief or maybe confusion? She knows him so well and yet in this moment, not well enough. His nose scrunches in that way she finds absolutely adorable and she can see behind blue eyes how the gears are turning in his mind.
“Nolan.” It’s a statement now like finally worked through it.
“Nolan.” She’s unsure as to why she has to repeat this but she does as if she’s reaffirming to herself that that actually happened. The irony isn’t lost on her, how at the time it seemed like the most serious and important relationship in her life and looking back, it now feels like a memory that belongs to someone else.
“Why?”
She could mess with him, string him along some elaborate ruse and see just how far she can take the joke. Except, she can’t quite bring herself to do this because the question actually makes her think. Why? She’s sure she could have answered it then, in fact, she remembers defending the relationship to Talia though now she’s at a blank.
“It made sense at the time.”
“How?”
“How?”
“Yes.”
Lucy sighs, placing an elbow onto the table and letting her chin rest on her hand as she stares back at him.  He’s not saying much which is unnerving, the one word responses aren’t enough for her to be able to gage what his reaction actually is. “If you remember how to speak in an actual sentence, I’ll tell you.”
“Sure.”
“Tim.”
This causes the emotionless void that had suddenly painted itself over his features to crack as he bursts out laugh. “I’m just trying to process it. You and Nolan? That’s so weird. You’re so you and he’s so … Nolan.”
She sighs because what else can she do? She’s not upset by the question, more than anything she’s trying to buy herself a little more time. He has a point, it doesn’t make much sense.
“We just bonded and it turned into a short lived relationship. We were both in a place in life where it seemed right. He had just gotten out of a twenty year marriage, I had just dropped out of grad school. It was a new chapter in life sort of thing.”
“Mhmm.”
“Seriously?”
“What?”
“If the next thing that comes out of your mouth isn’t a sentence, you’re sleeping on the couch,” she warns. She completely bluffing and there’s no actual bite there despite the deadpan. It’s just weird talking about it, even to Tim. “I’m just trying to process it, Luce. I respect him and all but what’s the attraction? You, Grace, Jessica, and Bailey have all seen something in him that I don’t think the rest of us. He’s not exactly George Clooney.”
This causes her to ease even more as Lucy’s lips twist into an amused smirk. “And you are?” she quips.
“I am a very handsome boy,” he states as a matter of fact.
“Eh.”
The playful arrogance that had surrounded him falls, clearly not expecting that answer from her which only causes her to laugh.
“You’re alright.” “Just alright?”
“Depends on the day.” “Today?”
“Today you’re okay,” she answers in the most nonchalant tone, “Jealousy just isn’t the right shade for you, Bradford.”
“I’m not jealous,” he protests, arms crossing against each other as he all but pouts from the other side of the table. “Really?”
“I’m not,” he shakes his head.
“Then what would you call this?” she asks, brow arched as she challenges him, waving a hand in front of her as she motions to him up and down.
“Not jealous,” he repeats.
“Riiiiight,” she laughs, “Do you want to try that again? Maybe sound a little more convincing this time.”
He stands up a little straighter, chest puffing out as he scowls at her which only causes her to laugh even harder. She’s somewhere in-between wanting to tease him and wanting to jump him because as amused as she is by his reaction, there’s also a part of her that finds it extremely attractive. This is more of a new side to him, little bits and pieces of Tim Bradford she learns about each day. She knows she’s usually been the jealous one. Katie Barnes comes to mind, knowing she’d misinterpreted that situation, again learning something new about Tim that day.
“No,” he huffs with a crooked smile, he looks guilty almost like a child who’d just been caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
“You know, I never thought I’d see the day Tim Bradford was jealous of John Nolan,” she teases as she hops off the stool and walks toward the other side of the kitchen island to where Tim stands. She reaches for him, hands on his arms as she pulls them toward his side to place herself in the space between him. Her arms wrapping lazily around his waist as she looks up at him with an devious glint.
“It’s kind of hot.” There’s a sultriness laced in her tone that she knows will grab his attention.
As if a chain reaction, his hardened jaw softens as he looks down at her, eyes widened as his hands find their way around her body pulling her in closure.
“Is that so?”
“Mhmm.”
“In that case, I’ve never been more jealous,” he jokes as he closes the gap between them as he finds her lips.
Lucy laughs against his lips. Any and all worry of how he’d take the news washing away as she melts into his touch.

The jealous j*v*a gag was never funny but girl really got jealous over a CAT and Gray dancing for fun with his child teammate. Do people really find this endearing? funny? She makes every interaction Gray has into something gross. Don't get me wrong it isn't funny when she does it with Lucy either (this is an extremely toxic relationship and I don't like to see it portrayed as cute or funny), but her acting like he's into Frosch or Wendy disgusts me (idk if it makes sense haha)
juvia Believes in the Worst of Gray, and she Couldn't Care Less
Oh, you make perfect sense to me, Anon, and you make such a good, damning point against juvia.
I love how you phrase it because it's just so accurate:
"she makes every interaction Gray has into something gross".
The fact that in juvia's mind, Gray could be a p*dophile or someone who practices b*stiality, is just beyond disturbing, for multiple reasons.
A, if she really thinks Gray is capable of those things, and still "loves" him, then what does that make her? Someone who supports those things too. Jail. Jail right now.
B, despite thinking those things about Gray, there's no acknowledgement from juvia that that's so very wrong, there's just, as you say, jealousy. Instead of putrid disgust, juvia feels jealous over a child and a cat. That's revolting, immoral, and just downright pathetic.
C, it just shows how juvia does not know Gray at all, what his values are, whom he loves, what kind of a person he is. And nor does she care. And yet this is the woman we're supposed to want to be with him. Right. That checks out.
D, what's more, Gray can do no wrong in her eyes (clearly), so if Gray likes Wendy or Frosch, guess what, it's not Gray who's the problem here- it's the child and the animal. They're her love rivals, they're whom she must conquer in a battle of love. The two who would be victims to Gray if this deluded insanity juvia believed about him was true are the very ones juvia points her gnarled finger at and declares war on. (Hypothetical) Victim-blaming/abuse at its finest.
You're right, Anon, that this jealous gag isn't funny even when inflicted on women of Gray's age and species. It's just uncomfortable, cringe, toxic, malicious, and sad. But it's infinitely more despicable when juvia's delusions and fantasies paint such a horrid picture of Gray and those around him, where his morals are misrepresented, his reputation tarnished, where such evil, perverse things are presented as if we're supposed to laugh at it.
This point doesn't get talked about enough (by myself included), but it truly is one of the most damning pieces of evidence of why juvia is a loathsome, detestable human being, and why she should never be with Gray.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me, Anon! This is truly a very important point to be made, and I am very grateful to you that this could be addressed very carefully on my blog.

Yesterday I finished chapter 16 and I'm really happy with how the story has progressed so far. Can you say that about your own story? I always try to stick to what the series dictates. Some things can be discussed. I also read a lot of nice scene summaries here. Those really help. And then I have my own thoughts.
Simple example of what I mean exactly: In 5x12 Lucy is clearly checking out Tim's upper body. I think that implies to some people that this is the first time she's seen him shirtless. But I don't believe that.
Why? On the one hand, there is the scene in which Lucy wires Tim. She also checks his upper body and has definitely seen him without a T-shirt, or rather with his T-shirt pulled up. And then I don't think they've been dating for weeks, he's changing jobs for her and she's never seen him shirtless. Nobody can tell me that they haven't made out by then. I think she generally likes checking him out. Who can blame her? And so in my story he definitely appears to be a shirtless Tim. Why this example comes to mind. Well, because that was simply a topic in the chapter I wrote yesterday :)
_____________
But enough chatting now. Now for the sneak peak. This time from Chapter 12:
In the meantime, Tim is called to a few locations as supervisor, but never to one where Lucy is. Their lunch times don't coincide this time, so they don't see each other at the food trucks either. But that doesn't stop Tim from exchanging several messages with Lucy during lunch with Aaron. Which earns him one or more sideways glances from Aaron. Not that Aaron knows who he's texting with, but he can see that he's not just checking his results and statistics app. Because he types too much for that. At least Aaron knows when to keep quiet and doesn't ask any more questions.
The afternoon is pretty uneventful. Lucy is called out on several small calls, but these consist more of assistance than actual police work. Although assistance is also an important part of police work. And it's also one of the parts that she always particularly enjoys. But the afternoon is simply quiet. She texts Tim when she gets back to the station.
Lucy: Go and have a shower and then drive home. Is there still a chance of meeting you somewhere?
His reply comes almost immediately.
Tim: Just got back to the station. I've got some paperwork to do. Write to me when you're done. We can meet in the car park by your car.
Half an hour later she arrives at the car park, freshly showered, and sees Tim, still in uniform, leaning against her car. He pulls her round the corner and behind a small ledge that she didn't even know existed until now. And then he pushes her against the wall and kisses her until she gets dizzy. Tim seems to have some kind of weakness for pushing her against walls. Which suits her. Because she clearly has a weakness for being pushed against walls by Tim. They don't have much time because, after all, they are in the LAPD underground car park and someone could always come along, even if they are a bit hidden. And so, the few minutes they have consist of making out and whispering snippets of conversation so that nobody hears them if someone does come. And Lucy gets a little adrenaline rush from this secret meeting and realizes for the first time what it means to date in secret. And somehow it turns her on that this relationship thing is a secret between the two of them. Something that only belongs to the two of them.

Babe have a little patience
I love Kate's desperation at not having gotten any information and I love even more Lucy assuring her that this is not a problem, that they will get there and she doesn't need to worry 😌
Tumblr media
Nothing to say here just her smile, because she was making a really bad joke 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pretty deep stuff you got into today, about your brother
Tumblr media
Some of it you haven't even told me, I mean if you want to talk about it, you can
This is what I mean when I say they keep getting to know each other and we keep getting to know them, there is a lot to unpack on both of their sides and that is why it is so important to me that they are letting us see it, because let's remember that Lucy knows about Noah because she googled it not because Kate shared it with her, and clearly neither of them have mentioned it again, but the fact that on this occasion Lucy asks her and gives space for her to answer and doesn't push when she tells her they can talk about it later speaks to the growth they've both had, the same thing I have repeated, they are going to each other's time and respecting each other's space, despite all the time they clearly spend together they don't push, they don't rush, they support and wait for each other to want to do or say certain things, and that is one of the most important things in the growth of a relationship 🥰🥺
Tumblr media
Now that is the look of a woman who knows she has found the woman with whom she is going to spend the rest of her life 😍
Tumblr media
A battle cry
The look of pride knowing that Kate remembered what she had taught her and was using it, plus how unsurprised she looked that Kate had taken down the two men, she knows exactly what her girl is capable of 😭
Tumblr media
Let's take a moment to appreciate Lucy's face at the sight of the woman on the ground
Tumblr media
And let's take a longer moment to appreciate the way she grabs Kate's face as she asks if she's okay, she was so scared for her the whole time that she didn't seem to realize they were out in the ocean, that being one of her biggest fears and she was only focused on finding Kate, on making sure she was okay, because Lucy knew Kate could save herself, but she wasn't going to be calm until she saw it for herself
Tumblr media
and finally they both breathe easy, Kate was focused on her work, but it's clear how scared she was too, that little "hi" and the little laugh during the hug are the reflection of how calm she finally is to be with Lucy again and Lucy to be with her 🥰🥺😭
2/3 episode 3 🚢

extremely late chapter 14 thoughts:
1. sejanus as much as i love you- maybe not throw yourself inside the house when coryo is having an existential crisis.
2. i love lennox because there should be at least one person who thinks the right way. i hope lennox keeps him on his toes so he thinks three times before doing anything.
3. “Unless you still didn’t see it that way.” ohhhh… the drama.
4. “the back cover of an old book about a man who hunted humans.” is the book “the most dangerous game”?
5. trying to materialise her morals with her prize must’ve been awful. only having money to hold as you’re in a train for that long with that many thoughts, i can’t even imagine.
6. i truly love the family r has and how even that makes her different than lucy gray. the latter was the oldest in her unit, as far as i know, while r isn’t meant to take care of anyone. also you are doing an excellent job at not casting them aside, as side characters usually exist for a quick second in fanfics.
7. Coriolanus Snow Being Honest To A District Woman? It’s More Likely Than You Think.
8. well, ladybugs bring luck.
9. thank you so much for not making her jump to his arms in a few seconds. she went through hell in that arena and at least half of it could be traced back to coryo. the emotional weight of that isn’t something that will lift quickly. she is bound to him by something greater than her feelings.
10. “I am yours for the walk and especially when I walk away.” MA’AM IS THIS FORESHADOWING IN A WAY?
welcome back bestie!! also i hope you had such a great birthday !!
1. yeah he was not thinking LMAO he was just like “on my way to see my friend !” and lucy gray was like “bro cmon read the room”
2. yes i love him :’) he was ready to swing immediately. i really love writing sibling relationships bc with my brother i’ve had so many different perspectives on it through the years haha, but now it literally doesn’t matter i’m like “this person is annoying” and he’s like “i’ll fight them rn” lol. i really think lennox needs to bring that energy bc r is WAY too gentle for her own good, even after all that she went through. he’s a good kid, of course, raised by the same parents, but he’s not nearly as timid and i love him for it.
and ANOTHER thing ab lennox- him and lucy gray both know more than her parents do, and both are clearly protective of her but she is still willing to give coryo a chance. he sees coryo as untrustworthy and a threat to r even though he knows she cares about him, but lucy gray is more optimistic ab it. idk, i feel like they see the situation clearly but in very different ways.
3. he’s like “shit i came all this way to be shut down didn’t i-“ lol
4. yes ma’am 🫡🤭 i mean i know it’s a short story but i have seen individual prints of it too (i had someone on wp be like “but that’s not a book it’s a short story” like girl i know pls-
5. no literally i would lose my damn mind. like you’re staring at an amount of money that can change your life and trying to convince yourself it is somehow worth it (which i know she could never do) would be actual torture i think.
6. i love her family so much, like realistically i can’t imagine r being the person she is without having a loving and supportive family.
also thank you! i love lucy gray and the covey too much to neglect them. especially maude ivory!! we deserved more of her in the movie!!
7. no literally. especially r’s mom. i think he doesn’t consciously know it either but r had talked about her mom quite a bit while she was in the capitol so i think he trusts her more than he would care to if he didn’t feel like he “knew her”. also i think important to mention that his fathers death also affected her so deeply and even physically.
8. that they do 🤭
9. AH you are so welcome. like as much as that would have been cute or whatever i seriously don’t think that was even an option for her it wouldn’t have made even a bit of sense. honestly, she was more likely to bolt back out the door and make a run for it hahahaha
10. IDK WE’LL HAVE TO SEE

My rant about how complicatedly beautiful Locklyle is:
(Disclaimer: this was written at 3 am and I tend to get weirdly poetic in the wee hours. 🤷‍♀️ Just so you know.)
Let us begin with our components of this ship: Lucy Carlyle and Anthony Lockwood. Lucy comes from a home practically devoid of love. Her father is gone, her mother might as well be, and every sister (save possibly Mary) has left her life completely. When she went to London, she was searching stability, shelter and yes, she got that but she also got so much more. She found a family. She found friendship. She found love.
That, in my book is such a vital part of any relationship. Before you are anything else (not more because romance is not above platonic, but simply different), you must have friendship. It might sound cheesy or a little weird but it is true. And it was true for them.
It is important, when analyzing Lockwood and Co. characters, to remeber that Lucy, as much as we love her, is an unrediable narrator. She tells us what she notices and nothing more. As the books go on you can see her dwelling on Lockwood's description, going into more detail of how he looks, how he acts, she even starts to catagorize his smiles. It's slow and she'll never be caught dead admitting it, but you can see how her attraction to him grows and for once I love it. One, because the girl doesn't even notice and two, because it's natural. The pace they move at can be seen by others as miniscule and tortuous, but to me it is right. If there is to be romance, let it be done slowly. Let it be shown at the pace of opening spring and with the steps of shaky feet.
Turning to her counterpart in Lockwood, the first thing I would like to address is his focus. His ambition and drive, though seemingly strictly personal at first, is another vital thing I think plays into the masterpiece that is their relationship. He (for reasons you know if you've read the books) is laser focused on doing his job as an agent and doing it well. His country is plauged by a scourge and he will stop at nothing to alleviate the pain is brings. His whole life since...well, spoilers, has been devoted to fighting the dead, removing their spirits and doing it with flair. But then... along comes this Listener, this girl named Lucy, and everything changes. Suddenly he finds himself with his attention spilt, his once single mindedness gone like it never existed. For the first time in so, so long he thinks about something outside the Problem. This is all speculation, mere drivel on my part, but I truly belive that Lucy changed Lockwood in a way no one else could. She grounds him, gives him a reason to live beyond the next case. She becomes like his sun, a beacon of hope and light he can always turn back to.
I've heard people say that Lockwood fell first but Lucy fell harder. I think that fits. Though we don't see it clearly through Lucy's eyes, from the moment they met, Lockwood would do anything for her. Even when he barely knew her, he gave her his childhood room, a place in his home, his agency and his heart. He never pushed her to talk about her past, never took her Talents for granted, always tried to make sure she felt she belonged. He won't realize until much later, but I think he fell for her before she even accepted the job.
What about Lucy though? Why do people say that she fell harder? I can't say much, don't want to give away anything to those who have yet to read the books, but just know that she would do anything, anything, to keep Lockwood safe. Even if it meant torture and pain and loneliness beyond belief, if she thought it would help him-she would do it. She loves him so much, and she doesn't even realize it.
But does this devotion, the immediate connection make void the point I just made about things needing to be slow? No, because of the ever important detail of their ignorance. It is this inability to make that connection that I find so endearing, even nigh amusing. Anyone else could have told them they love each other, but the fact that they can't see it is delicious to me. It makes them act like fumbling fools, but they're teenagers. What do you expect? Their world is dark and dreary and full of death, but they have each other, and to them that's enough.
I think another reason I love Locklyle is because they never delude themselves into believing they're the only two people on this earth that matter. Never is there a moment where they shut out their friends in favor of being with the other. George (and later a few other characters) are so dear to them, and you never doubt that. Lucy and Lockwood have a special connection, that cannot be denied, but it is never put above thier friendships with others. Like I said before, romance is not more. It is simply different.

Do you think Isobel is coming back to reveal some big news or try and win Tim back? She makes me nervous.
i don't think she's coming back to try and win tim back at all – that ship has so clearly sailed and she is the one who instigated that divorce, so it wouldn't make much sense for her to try and be reaching back to tim.
i think there are two parts to this that really make me incredibly unaffected by isabel/her presence overall (negatively, at least. i am affected in that i am very excited to see her!). for a long time, a lot of people in this fandom felt v put off my isabel and i never really got that. she was a huge part of tim's life and what propelled his story forward – and that should be so majorly respected by fans of tim's character, imo. without isabel, the tim we see today – the tim that goes all in on a relationship with lucy – doesn't exist...i have always been hype about their past and the way the rookie handled that relationship/used it to define tim and help him grow. anyway:
first of all, isabel and tim were together for like, a whole ass decade. that's a very long time, and in some of their most formative years. they grew up together, they were there for each other, they were incredibly important people in each other's lives. that's never going to go away, and they both know that. lucy knows that. it's not weird or upsetting or jealousy-inducing, because tim's ex-wife isn't a threat, she's a person who had a huge impact on him in the past and mattered to him greatly. she's not his wife any more and they've both acknowledged their relationship wasn't working. they've both (i'm assuming both, at least) moved on with their lives and beyond their relationship with one another. the fact that lucy has openly called isabel in the past to ask questions about tim proves to me that there's no bad blood there – the way he's very candidly spoken to lucy about her before they were together (3x08, 4x05, etc.) shows that even though he thinks of the relationship fondly, it's not something he's pining for. he's moved on, she's moved on, but they'll always matter to each other in a familial way, and that's okay.
second, i think she could be there to tell him she's getting re-married, maybe. is that big news? idk, i don't think anything isabel's going to tell tim about herself or her circumstances is going to like, rock his world or anything. i'm not even going to throw around the more bonkers theories i've seen, but whatever dramatic thing can be cooked up surrounding this, i'm sure that's not what'll happen. my guess is she's coming back because something's changing in her life (a relationship, a career path, etc) and she wants to tell tim/thank him for helping her through her roughest time/see how he is. she could also literally just be visiting LA to see family or old friends and wants to check in on tim. like it could be a visit for literally nothing, that's completely normal.
anyway: tl;dr, i don't think this is going to be anything to be nervous about tim/isabel-wise. i do think the writers are clearly setting up some serious chenford angst, which i am excited for – but it's not going to be like, roadblock, "this person wants to be with me" angst. it's going to be deeper than that, more emotional, more personal...and i'm very excited to see how that plays out.

Chenford + you rejected me Lucy 💔
Welp, anon, I'm pretty sure I did this wrong in every possible way and now you have learned your lesson to never prompt me again, but here's some angsty nonsense for ya; enjoy! [or, erm, whatever it is people do with sad, sad angst]
Tumblr media
“Lucy, I don’t understand — why didn’t you say something?”
“I did say something, Tim.” It comes out sounding more shrill than she intends. Something about his response is putting her on the defensive. She pushes a frustrated hand back through her hair, and blows out a slow breath. How can a man as smart as Tim Bradford be so damn stupid?
“What?! When?” Tim demands, and this time it’s his emotions that are clearly evident through the tone of his voice.
Recognition dawns in his eyes. “Wait – you mean last year? On your last day of training? That stupid prank?”
Lucy sucks in a breath because while, yes, the prank may have been idiotic, her feelings were very, very real and it stings to hear him refer to her heartfelt words as stupid.
Her voice is soft when she finally responds. “What was I supposed to do, Tim? You were going to reject me.”
“No! I — You rejected me, Lucy.”
“What?! How?”
“How do you think that made me feel, Lucy? You blindsided me and then turned it into a joke. You made me feel like I was a complete idiot for thinking you could ever have feelings for me.”
He runs a hand over his face, trying to reign in his aggravation. “So you’re saying what you said that day — before you turned it into a prank — you meant those things?”
Lucy nods, trying to ignore the panic rising in her chest as the idea of putting herself out there for a second time and being rejected again becomes a very real possibility.
“That was over a year ago…” He shakes his head with disbelief. His mind whirs back through bits and pieces of the last year, seeing them in an entirely different light — her jealousy over Katie Barnes and then over him choosing Webb for the aide role, her surprise that he’d asked out Ashley, the weird push and pull attitude she’d had toward their relationship alternately telling him to dump Ashley and then listen to her, her obsession with the idea he might be proposing…
All culminating in her showing up on his doorstep at well past an appropriate hour for an unannounced drop-in, not even a week after he’d told her he ended things with Ashley. He’d barely closed the door behind her when she’d blurted that she thinks she might be in love with him.
“But you and Chris…”
She laughs, but there’s no humor in it. “You set me up with Chris, Tim. Tell me you’re not at all into me without telling me you’re not at all into me.”
Her eyes fill and she looks away. Tim feels a dull ache in his chest. He would never in a million years intentionally hurt her.
“Lucy, I — “ and he isn’t quite sure what to say, isn’t quite sure how he feels about any of this. It feels like someone has viciously taken a pair of scissors to the very fabric of the last year, to everything he thought he knew about their relationship.
He tries again, “Lucy — you are so important to me, but —”
Her tears are falling freely now and she swipes at her cheeks. “Oh my god — please just stop, Tim. I can’t take another rejection. Please just let me go. I just want to go home.”
He blinks in confusion because he is holding her in place, but he doesn’t even remember closing the distance between them, doesn’t even remember wrapping his fingers around her upper arms, and he is not even entirely sure he’ll remember this as he lifts a hand to wipe her tears.
“I don’t want to let you go, Lucy.”
Her pretty brown eyes are filled with hurt and confusion. “What does that even mean, Tim?”
Tim presses his eyes closed because hell if he knows. “I just — I need a minute, okay. You dropped a lot on me, and you’ve apparently had over a year to process this, and I — “
She’s attempting to pull out of his grip, “I shouldn’t have come here. I thought…”
“You thought what, Lucy?”
Her voice breaks. “I thought this was going to go really differently. That maybe you — I don’t know, but I didn’t think you’d be mad at me for telling you how I feel.”
F*ck. “I’m not mad at you, okay? I’m just confused and feeling a little blindsided.” And yup, he can hear it now — the harshness in his tone stemming from the unexpected stress of having the foundation of one of the most important relationships in his life threatened.
And suddenly he feels like he is on the verge of tears. “I don’t want to lose you, Lucy.”
“I don’t want to lose you either, Tim. But —” she pauses to swallow, clearly overwhelmed by her emotion. “I can’t do it anymore. This past year — it’s too hard. To have to be around you all the time. To know you’re happy with someone else. To know you can’t see me the way I see you.”
“What are you saying?” Tim asks, finally releasing her and taking a step back. He can feel himself closing off, feel his walls starting to rebuild as, yet again, one of the people he cares most about in this world is showing him they are ready and willing to walk away.
“I don’t know,” she raises her hands to cover her mouth as a sob escapes her. “I’m so sorry; I really didn’t think it was going to end like this.”
***
UPDATE: I didn’t leave it this angsty 😂; there’s more.
^ I also really didn’t think it was going to end like this, but here we are 😬.  I’m truly very sorry. 😂
So there it is -- my very first Tumblr prompt fill... a joyful occasion, no less. 😂
Prompt at your own risk -- I'm absolutely honored 🙏🏽 that anyone wants to read my writing, but my muse is fickle, so I make no promises. But I can promise I look at them and mull and will share if inspo strikes ❤️
Thanks for the lovely request, anon!  ❤️

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
i have some...complicated feelings about buck and chris's relationship and how that's portrayed/talked about especially in how it reflects on eddie. i say shit like THATS HIS DAD and THEYVE BEEN COPARENTING FOR YEARS because they HAVE and i think in a lot of ways buck loves chris like he's his and chris CLEARLY sees buck as a parental figure and eddie REPEATEDLY and PURPOSEFULLY puts buck in that role and is comfortable with him in that role.
where i get the ick is when that's pushed into this idea that chris needs buck, that eddie needs buck, in order for their family to be complete. and i don't know that i can articulate this well bc eddie does need buck, and chris needs buck too. but i also think it is so so important to recognize that eddie is a great father (despite a rough start) and that they were (and would continue to be) just fine without him.
i've even struggled with how i've written this relationship in fic, because it can be a tough line to toe.
i suspect that fandom subconciously leans in to this idea that buck can swoop in and save eddie and chris in large part because buck is white and eddie isn't. and i know that i'm icked by it more because of that.
and this is probably related, but i don't think chris would ever start calling buck anything but buck. the idea that a kid needs to call someone dad/mom/whatever for them to be "important" is bullshit. my best friend and i's kids call us by our first names but they also refer to us as their 'other mom'. i've always called my stepdad by the nickname everyone else calls him. buck has been in chris's life a long time; i don't think he's gonna start calling him something different if they finally get together and/or get married.
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
taylor and shannon and lucy on 911. fandom loves to hate any woman that's even vaguely connected to one of the boys. i like taylor because she's interesting, and i appreciate seeing a woman who puts herself and her career first. we see men do that all the time. i don't hate taylor for being selfish. i don't want her with buck, but i think their relationship was SO interesting and was important for buck figuring out what he wants.
i LOVE shannon and i have loved shannon from the beginning. people love to hate her and say she's a terrible mother for abandoning her child. but she was a young woman in an impossible position who had NO help from her partner for YEARS. she tried to do what she thought was best for her son, her mother, and herself. eddie wouldn't GIVE her that space so she TOOK it. and good for her, honestly. did it hurt chris that she left? absolutely. would people judge a father as harshly for doing EXACTLY the same thing? absolutely not. shannon loved her kid, she tried to do her best, but she was pushed well past her breaking point (which eddie is largely to blame for - yes i can love my blorbos and admit they have flaws GASP) and everyone had to deal with the fallout.
lucy is hot and badass and interesting and if you watch her kiss with buck and think anything other than 'fuck, that's hot' then we will simply never agree and i'm not going to argue with you. get off her ass, she's incredible and i want her back.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
miscommunication based pining. i can do it for a little bit, but my nightmare is a 100k+ fic rated t tagged slow burn and mutual pining. JUST OPEN YOUR DAMN MOUTH! AAAAAAHHHHHH!! i can do SOME pining bc yearning can be really delicious but when the whole reason 2 people are pining for seven billion words is because nobody will just TALK it makes me insane.
23. ship you've unwillingly come around to
oooh this is tricky bc i am a multishipper to my CORE i want everybody fuckin everybody and falling in love all over the place give it to meeeeee. i feel like the only ship i've ever really been AGAINST is thorki, and that's largely bc of people arguing that it doesn't "count" as incest bc loki was adopted, which pisses me the fuck off. the actual ship i don't really have beef with and i'm sure i would read a fic if someone sent it to me and it was good. idk. it takes a lot for me to be like, ew, absolutely not.
(obligatory disclaimer that you're allowed to like shit i don't like. i'm not telling you your opinion sucks, i'm telling you what i think <3)
fandom violence asks <3

The Road to Chenford - The realisation
The show has always been vague enough that we can all interpret differently when Tim and Lucy started realising their feelings were more than platonic. I wonder if we're going to have more insights on that regard now. In the meantime, let's speculate : what was the moment you think they had their "come to Jesus" moment?
Here's how I see things :
. Up until the end of season 3 - Friends (and TO/rookie).
When they met, they were under a very strict work imbalance of power (as hot it is in fanfiction, this is messy in real life). Any initial feelings of attraction there might have been, I'm pretty sure these were sublimated real quick. Not to mention that both were in relationships (dysfunctional but still there) and clearly not in that heads pace. Towards the end of season 1 and in season 2, we see them get closer. Tim let her set him up, something he would never have agreed before. They talk about their personal life in the shop. After Day of Death, the shift becomes stronger : they are less and less TO/rookie and more equals in the way Tim treats her (but not paper). It's obvious they care about the other very much. In 3.09, we have the infamous prank about feelings : between the way Lucy is easily able to crack up about it and the surprised and panicked face Tim makes, it's supposed to make us feel that if the feelings are there, they still don't realise it. Ironically Lucy is not wrong in her assessment, she just didn't fully get it yet. They are able to bounce back to being them real fast too, without much awkwardness. And then Angela's wedding happened (well technically it didn't but bear with me).
. Angela's wedding - The attraction Part
That's really the moment where it hits them both I think. The elevator eyes, the open flirting about the UC flirting, catching the other's eyes... While still being a superior officer, they are no longer in each other's direct chain of command. So it probably makes it easier to lower their guards. Tragedy strikes but we still see some remnants of this attraction at Tim's house. I honestly think Lucy was ready to risk it all, but I'm glad they got interrupted. Grief is hardly a good place to start something so important. Again, hot, but messy. I wish we didn't have the time jump, but I surmise Lucy was so adamant to become Tim's aide because it was safe. She had just lost her best friend, her life and job are full of uncertainties so being back to their old relationship was comforting. It's familiar, she knows how to navigate into this world.
And despite everything, their friendship really strengthens. Sure they date other people, but who do they confide in when it's tough or when in doubt? We even have Tim practically admit it after the double date : Lucy is comfort.
. The Practice Kiss - And so it begins...
I think Lucy has her moment slightly before actually. When she realises that Tim could get married, her heartbroken face spoke volume. I think it's really the moment where it hits her that there's something more and that she could lose him. Up until now, there was no real reason to worry : they always came up first. If he gets married, things might change. But it took the kiss for Tim to catch up. Poor boy got his brain broken so many nights that time, it's no wonder it stopped working. Also, Lucy's hopeful, then disappointed face when she thought Tim was going to talk about that kiss, makes me feel she is on the same page, they just don't know it yet. Something that was so comfortable becomes uncertain and that's scary.
There's a small detail that I think illustrate this perspective : the parking lot. Up until 4.22, all the major Chenford moments that took place in the parking lot, they happened underground. As a  way to suggest that the feelings are there, we can see them on their face, but they're buried underneath. But after the kiss, after they got their reality check, the location switch to outside… In plain view. Even the conversation they have about giving their relationship a chance to blossom happens nearby (the parking lot is just a bit further on the side if my geography is not fully messed up).
After that, they are both aware, but Lucy lets her fears win temporarily (and with the Rosalind's shadow looming over her, it's not too hard to sympathise). And yet, both still took a step forward in the apartment but Rosalind was not having it.
So why didn't they break up with Ashley and Chris? For Lucy, it's easy to answer : she's feeling guilty and decides to make amends by punishing herself. But her heart is not in it. For Tim, I think it's all about the safety : why break things up if nothing is going to change? He's craving for a family (not necessarily the children, he almost seems to have given up on that). If Lucy is not interested, why not stay with Ashley. Is it fair? No. But I'm sure many of us have been there.

Chenford ❤️ Tim leaves a drunk voicemail for Lucy, and she finds out
(similar to Rachel & Ross in friends)
I love Friends. It’s my absolute favorite show in the entire world and I love the episode this prompt is referring to. I had to write this one right away because it just fits me. So thank you anon 🫶🏻
don't wanna keep secrets just to keep you
Chenford ❤️ Tim leaves a drunk voicemail for Lucy, and she finds out
Tim doesn’t normally get drunk, after everything with his father he just doesn’t want to turn out like him. But tonight he finds himself drunk at the bar because Lucy is out with Chris. She’s out with Chris and they are probably going to go home and.. Tim takes a drink of his beer and slams it on the counter. The couple next to him looks at him startled. He ignores them, if only he had just fought for Lucy. If only he had just pushed her a little more.
It’s basic biology
But it wasn’t not to him anyway. It could never be basic biology to him. He takes another drink of his beer and puts it down motioning to the bartender for another beer. The bartender puts in front of him.
“You good man? You seem to be going through these awfully quick.” He says. Tim shrugs his shoulders, he wasn’t about to explain to a complete stranger that the woman he likes is with another man and she has no idea how he feels about her.
The bartender studies him for a second before moving on to get the man next to him another drink.
He goes through two more bottles before he starts thinking about Lucy again. He needs to move on, she clearly doesn’t feel the same way about him. He looks around the bar trying to see if anyone catches his eye. He’s also not a find a woman at a bar man but he’s kind of desperate to forget the one woman he actually wants.
Someone slides up besides him and he turns to see a pretty blonde woman sitting on the stool next to him.
“Hi.” She says batting her eyelashes. “I have been watching you. Are you waiting for anyone or are you here all alone?”
Tim blinks. Sober Tim would back away from someone who had been watching him but he wasn’t sober Tim right now.
“No. I’m alone.” He says quietly. The woman nods and leans forward a little.
“Well I can keep you company.” She says huskily and Tim can’t help but smile a little. Maybe this is exactly what he needs.
It turns out the more he drinks the more he talks. After about three more beers he starts talking to the woman about Lucy.
“I’m over her.” He says. The woman raises her eyebrows at him as if she doesn’t believe him. “I am. She’s with Chris, she went to get dinner with him.” He think about how she invited him to dinner with her and Chris and how desperately he wanted to say yes. But he couldn’t watch Lucy be all over Chris.
“This Lucy.” Says the woman who he still doesn’t know the name of. “Is she important to you?” Tim nods his head, Lucy is probably the most important person in his life. She’s the calm to his storm, the sunshine to his dark clouds. She sees through his bullshit, she calls him out and she knows him better than anyone ever has. She is his friend no matter how many times he’s tried to deny it.
“Yes. She’s very important to me.” He says dully. The woman nods in understanding.
“Do you like pursuing a relationship with her would ruin your friendship?” She asks. No. Tim thinks. It would make it stronger.
“I don’t know.” He says. “I don’t know. I mean I don’t want to lose her.”
“Then maybe it’s time to move on.” She says. “Maybe it’s time to realize that you will only ever be friends with her.”
Tim closes his eyes tightly. Maybe this woman is right, maybe it’s best to only be friends with her.
“So I need to what.. how do I move on to just be friends?” He asks her opening his eyes. The woman studies him.
“You need closure. You need to tell her that you want to be friends and that’s it.” She says. “It will help. I just went through a breakup and I saw him for the first time in a long time and I got to say everything I couldn’t when we broke up.”
“Right.” Says Tim slowly. “Closure.” He gets up from his stool and pulls out his phone. He glances at the woman and the dials Lucy’s number. Closure. He can do this.
It goes like to voicemail just like he thought it would. He takes a deep breath before he speaks.
Lucy it’s me Tim. I just wanted to let you know that I am over you. We should just be friends because that’s clearly what you see me as. You don’t see me as anything but a friend and I’m over you. I met someone by the way so you have Chris and your fancy dinners and I have someone. I just wanted closure. I guess it was just basic biology. So have a nice life with Chris. Goodbye.
He makes sure the voicemail is sent and the hangs up putting his phone on the counter and glancing over at the woman but she’s gone. And he’s all alone again.
***
The next morning Tim wakes up with a massive headache and a crick in his neck. He groans and he wonders how the heck he got home. He glances around and realizes he’s on his couch. So he got home but didn’t make it very far. He groans again when there’s a knock at the door. He gets up slowly and drags himself to the front door not bothering to check who it is. He opens it up to find Lucy staring at him.
“Hi.” He says nervously. “Wh-what are you doing here?” Lucy stares at him and the pushes past him.
“You are joking right?” She says and she sounds angry. She pulls out her phone and presses something and then his voice is filtering through the phone. I’m over you. I met someone. I just wanted closure.
Tim stares at Lucy in horror as the voicemail ends. “So you are over me?” She says quietly. “I didn’t realize you had anything to get over.” And she doesn’t sound angry anymore. She sounds more resigned and heartbroken.
“I…Lucy. How could you not know how I felt?” He says quietly. She slips her phone in her pocket and walks towards him her eyes full of tears.
“How could you not know how I feel about you?” She says. “Because Tim I ha—” She’s cut off by her phone buzzing. She pulls it out and looks at it and then back at him.
“I have to go. Chris is waiting for me.” She says. She turns around like she’s going to say something else but then decides against it. She walks out the door closing it behind her. And for the third time in the last 12 hours Tim is left alone.
***
There’s a knock at the door just as Tim is putting Kojo out to go to the bathroom. He’s feeling better but Lucy’s words are still going through his head. How could you not know how I feel about you?
He gets to the door and checks to see who it is. He frowns when he sees it’s Lucy.
“I broke up with Chris.” She says in a lieu of a greeting. He stares at her a little dumbfounded because that was the last thing he expected.
“W-why did you do that?” He asks lamely and Lucy rolls her eyes. She steps into the house but doesn’t move any closer to him.
“Because he’s not the guy I want to be with.” She says. Oh. Tim’s heart sinks. Did she come here to tell him she likes someone else? Is this her way of getting closure?
He licks his lips nervously wondering what she is going to say. It’s not like his heart can break anymore. “W-who do you want to be with?” He asks his voice shaking.
Lucy steps closer now and Tim realizes she’s shaking too. “You, you idiot. I want to be with you.” She says taking a deep breath. And Tim gapes at her.
“But you said.. it was basic biology.” He says. Lucy bites her lip and steps even closer to him. Now they are chest to chest.
“I lied. Okay? I lied Tim because I was scared. I was scared of losing you. And the UC op brought all these emotions out and it was scary and confusing. I lied. I’m sorry but I thought if we could be friends at least I would have you in my life still.”
You will always have me in my life no matter what. He thinks to himself.
“I didn’t know how you felt Tim. After.” Says Lucy continuing before he can say anything. “I rejected you and you just accepted it. I thought it was just a fluke. A heat of the moment kind of thing.”
“It wasn’t.” He whispers. “It never was to me.” Lucy nods and reaches up to cup his face. He leans into her touch, not realizing how much he needs it.
“I’m sorry.” He mumbles. “I should have fought for you.”
“Fight for me now.” She says. “Tell me how you feel.”
He takes a deep breath and then lets it out. “I have feelings for you. And it’s a little scary but it’s worth it. You are worth it.”
Lucy smiles at him tears still in her eyes. “Yeah. I have feelings for you too. I’m sorry for being scared and stupid. But it is worth it.”
He nods and the leans forward to press his lips to her. She responds eagerly as he pulls her closer almost lifting her off the ground as he does.
They kiss like that for a few minutes before she pulls back her fingers hooked in his belt loops. “So you met someone huh?” She says but her voice is light and teasing. He groans and buries his face in neck breathing her in.
“You will never let me live that down huh?” He mumbles. She laughs as he pulls his head up.
“No.” She says her voice still light and airy. “But it will be a better story for the grandkids.” He laughs this time and pulls her closer, kissing her again.
And for the first time in a long time he’s not alone.

Did you enjoy 5.08 and how chenford got together?
yes, it was such a good episode overall and with chenford content! i felt as if it had such great moments that set them admitting feelings and ultimately getting together up really well. here are some thoughts:
when grey asked if there was a reason why they couldn’t ride together, despite the fact that things are pretty awkward between them, lucy looks at tim for an answer. the way she turns to him almost makes me feel like she’s looking at him as an anchor - another really great moment when she does this too is when bailey’s in the tank asking where nolan is and she doesn’t know what to say. it was such a little moment but i think it shows just how much she looks to him.
the conversation they have in the shop when chris calls to ask lucy about the open house and tim asks “are you -- are you and chris moving in together?” i loved how it was a parallel to when lucy asked tim if he was planning on proposing to ashley and they had that entire conversation.
and then when chris calls again. tim can see how visibly upset lucy is, she’s anxious and panicking at feeling the pressure to say yes to moving in and tim swoops in and finds her an out by telling her to “chat with your boyfriend on your own time”.
“lucy you deserve to be with someone who is worth the effort” — the fact that he asks about their relationship when he was mr. no personal life talk in the shop guy but not only that, tries to help her process it when asking her why they don’t fight and if he’s worth the effort.
tim reaching for her then shielding her when they think the bomb is going to go off like one hand on her shoulder, the other on her arm????? i’m weak.
their third shop talk of the day.  the glances, tim asking lucy if she loves him and lucy deflecting, THE GLANCES like they’re conveying so many different emotions and they don’t ever meet gazes when this happens, lucy just about saying “he’s just not ... you”.
the way how lucy approaches tim in the last scene: “hey, we need to talk”. they’re not even in a relationship at this point and the irony that this is usually a break up line. i love how they both call each other out on staying in safe relationships and the fact in general that despite them starting off in a really awkward place in the morning, by end of shift tim is waiting for her, helping her process her relationship with chris. i will never get over tim telling her it wasn’t about him when it so very clearly was and then, the third bomb of the episode! lucy admits that she has feelings for tim and the way he just processes this information because she just said he’s the most important relationship in her life?????
i love how chenford got together, i think it was true to who they are and truthfully such a slow burn. they’re clearly on a different level with one another, i mean lucy even said that they have a short hand. they understand each other in a way others could never and i think it’s why they not only communicate so well but can say so much to one another without saying it. like how tim refutes that the conversation isn’t about him and lucy’s response isn’t to deny it but to say “of course i’m scared. if we do this and it doesn’t work, i’ll have ruined the most important relationship in my life”, she basically tells him that the conversation is about him as well as admits to him that she is in a relationship with chris out of fear and probably not being able to be with who she wants to be with: tim. i love how tim processes that because again, no one in any relationship has ever put him first and yet here’s lucy, who he’s fallen for but isn’t with, who has told him he’s the one who matters the most and we see that moving forward.
