Professor AU (set in the Baldur’s Gate universe)

My tav, Lyra, doesn’t fit the student x professor trope so I came up with my own little twist. A little mini story below:

Shadowheart, who taught lessons on the different religions across Faerûn, came across her colleagues in the lounge. ‘Good’, she thought. She had gossip to share.

“Guess who I just saw get fired by Lyra,” she said as she sat down.

“Please tell me it was Gortash,” Karlach responded, hope filling her voice.

Gale sighed and said, “She can’t fire her own boss, Karlach.”

The tiefling deflated at that, and waved her hand at Shadowheart to tell her to continue.

“It was actually the recent hire, the new history professor.”

That took Gale by surprise. “What? I thought he was quite nice, seemed to care about his research a lot.”

“I’m sure he was,” Shadowheart started, a callous smirk crossed her features, “But that has no weight if you decide to bring up a certain law professor’s past to try and get rid of him.”

Gale groaned, face in his hands, while Karlach and Wyll chuckled.

“I would just like to say,” Wyll said, “That I warned him! But alas, the newbies never listen.”

“I don’t understand her,” Lae’zel bit out, “She’s quite intelligent, strong, extremely powerful, and yet she bends over backwards for some elf?”

“I don’t think she’s the one bending over, if you know what I mean,” Wyll joked, which earned him a light shoulder punch from Karlach.

“I’d like to think it’s because they’re in love,” Karlach replied hopefully.

The rest of the group stared at her like she had lost it.

“What?? One time I forgot to knock and accidentally walked in on them hugging, it was so sweet!” she insisted.

At that moment, Astarion, had walked into the lounge to get more coffee. He seemed lighter on his feet than normal, with a small smile resting on his face.

And with a trail of hickeys down his neck.

The group stared at him, well, at the hickeys, as he made his drink. He picked up on it, and asked, “…is there a reason why you’re all staring at me?”

“Did you just have a visit with our lovely dean?” Gale said in a dry tone.

Astarion seemed a little surprised, but smiled as he said, “Why yes I have. How’d you know?”

They all continued to stare at the clusters of red and purple. “Lucky guess,” Gale sighed.
