Turn The Light On, It’s Dark In Here by artist Camille Walala
Photos of Camille Walala's 'River of Light' installation in Liverpool.
As part of 2022’s ‘River of Light’ festival that took place in Liverpool, artist Camille Walala created a stunning installation at the Royal Albert Dock outside the Martin Luther King Building. I personally hoped for a rainy day to capture the reflections in the streets to add to the cityscape-esque scene. Outlined in vibrant primary colours, curves and rounded contours collide with rigid right…

idea 1 with research, idea experimentation, development, evaluation. 8/2/24
this idea outlined
research relating to the idea
key artists associated with this
visual research
overall thoughts on this
This idea is about visuallising emotions - I was thinking maybe collages that represent emotions or soomething about autistic feelings. I would create these using shape psychology and colours theory and 3d depth and texture to do this. I would display them in an exhibition.

looking for collage inspiration in the style similar to those I would maybe make , contemporary artists in this area include camille walala, she is intesteting since she appllies her layered collage art to buildings, gallery peices `and its interesting when you interact with something like this how it could be used to create meaning , for exmaple i was thinking about emotions and carrying that through from my last project. The shadows and use of dark and light colours.

In this book I really like the small inserted book since it adds interest as well as an insight into the design, i like the insight into her process.
When I was thinking what I could do with this kind of project, i was thinking about emotinos and how you could create collages in order to help undertsanding of emotions, maybe this would be useful for autistic people or to raise awareness for autism. Or semthing similar such as mentazl health, this kind of art could be displayed in a multitude of methods, I could project, make gallery peices, or i could even Create something that was interactive. But some of the key things i would have to research include shapes and what feelings and thoughts certain ones can evoke, additionally, i also need to have colour psychllogy for the same reasons, it is reall important with something like this to set the right tone and putting the right colours together.

Some experiments in relation to this|:
Tumblr media
my overall feelings as this is it isnt the exact thing that i want for my portfolio and I would like to do something a bit different. This experiment shows as well how important colour psychology is since I took no regard for the colours I was picking and picked basic pastel colours and i dont think it feels like any specific cohesive cooloiurs.
Mildly looks like easter colours.
I would have to think about what I wanted to say with this project and this isnt exciting my in the way i would hope a final project would.

//15 Minute City//
Whilst researching into mural and branding designs, I found the work of Neasden Control Centre and Camille Walala. Neasden Control Centre is a design studio that has a focus on illustration and experimental typography. I find the use of shape in their projects unique, the paper cut graphic icons are easy to identify their work style by. They stand out from a lot of clean-cut graphic design currently in the world and bring a more playful take on branding.
Camille Walala is a multidisciplinary designer most well known for her murals and post-modernism inspired art. The harmony of shape, pattern and colour in her work used to brighten any space is something I aspire to work towards in my 15 Minute City project.
