Five Love Languages of Danmei: Biting Bracket
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cezhou from Qiang Jin Jiu
Characters: Shen Zechuan / Shen Lanzhou and Xiao Chiye / Xiao Ce’an
Submission 1:
Literally the second time they meet (the first being Xiao Chiye almost killing him) Shen Zechuan bites Xiao Chiye's hand so hard it leaves a permanent scar
Submission 2:
I love their feral bastards energy in general but I knew I was in for a good time when Shen Zechuan fucking chomped on Xiao Chiye's hand super early on in the novel. Meet cute: giving him a scar to remember you by (i think it wasn't their first meeting, but its the spirit of thing)
Submission 3:
Wait I forgot this too:  “Those eyes of yours can really be remarkably cruel at times.” And before Shen Zechuan could reply to that, Xiao Chi’ye continued, “Of course, a little cruelty gives it some bite.” Shen Zechuan bit his tongue for a moment, then said, “Congratulations on your unique proclivities.” “You’re not too shabby yourself,” Xiao Chi’ye said equivocally. “I’ve never met anyone else who enjoys getting bitten.” YUH.

Fanart 1 (NSFW)
*Jilin from Nan Chan
Characters: Cang Ji x Jing Lin
A significant part of the novel occurs while Cang Ji is under the impression that he wants to eat Jing Lin because then he can be together with him forever - “It doesn’t matter if I’m the one. As long as I’m together with you.” He also bites Jing Lin more than once to receive spiritual powers.
Chapter 25:
Cang Ji teased him. “Is Cang Ji good?” Jing Lin hesitated for a moment, then shook his head hard. “He’s always biting me. No.” Cang Ji laughed aloud and said, “Then what should we do? He will definitely bite you again in the future.” “Then.” Jing Lin replied in all seriousness. “Bite me gently.”

So did LQG abuse children?
First of all, this is a joke. The true answer is no, of course not. But this is funny, so let's do it.
This is brought to you by a collection of anecdotal evidence, with varying levels of experience in doing martial arts as a childhood hobby. Please do not take it as legal advice. It will not help you.
Highlight of the conversation:
Tumblr media
Contact sports aren't illegal. Martial arts can be practiced by children. This can include both children practicing techniques on each other, and the instructor demonstrating techniques on children. This may cause light injury (scrapes and bruises). This is fine.
More serious injuries in sport do happen (sprains, broken limbs etc. Concussion is far more serious than fiction tells you - if you hit your head, please get medical advice). That being said, any decent sports instructor should have training in practicing sports safely. A karate person pointed out to me that karate has a lot of focus on control, so if you're causing injury in practice, you're doing something wrong, but also said they weren't sure about other martial arts. The only martial arts I've done is MMA very briefly, and I never got to the stage where anyone was capable of causing anyone serious injury, but we were given a briefing on day 1 about not hurting people. (If people are more knowledgeable about this, please chip in!) So LQG sending floods of children to Qian Cao is quite bad. There was, however, lack of consensus as to whether this would be illegal, but whatever the case, you would probably get in trouble for one of the following:
Safeguarding practices
Harassing, threatening, bullying, or intimidating students is absolutely no-go, obviously. (idk what the legalities are though, although it will get you fired from any decent institution.) So LQG's brutish ways leaving students shivering in fear gives him minus points.
Discriminating students for their background, ethnicity, gender, sexual-orientation etc. is also not okay. So more minus points for discriminating against demons.
Safeguarding is serious stuff. Places that work with children (at least in the UK) should have a designated safe guarding lead, to whom which safe guarding concerns can be passed on to. Students should have a way of raising concerns to higher levels (no matter how high up in the organisation the person of concern is, so may involve contacts outside of the organisation.) Cang Qiong Mountain does not seem to have any of this in place (*cough* student-teacher relationship *cough*), or any method of preventing bullying, so even more minus points here.
Endangerment of Children
It turns out it is not okay to endanger children!!! (Can you imagine how many fictional characters need to be arrested?) So no, you can't get kids to shoot guns at each other. This is illegal. Cang Qiong Mountain gets minus points for sending their kids to the Immortal Alliance Conference, or on life-threatening missions.
If it's your responsibility to look after a child, you should (surprisingly enough) look after said child. LQG seems to spend most of his time off the peak, and notably not looking after children. On the other hand, we are aware of other instructors on Bai Zhan peak - Ji Jue makes an appearance in the airplane extras, who is of the same generation as Liu Qingge. So evidently, there are some older people around to take care of the kids when Liu Qingge is off doing whatever. (Which would make sense, because no way is Liu Qingge correcting form and stuff) So we'll give him benefit of the doubt here.
So in summary LQG is (probably) not guilty of child abuse. However, he is definitely guilty of child endangerment. (As well as discrimination, reckless endangerment, arson, assault, hate crimes against demons etc.) Moreover, you could probably sue the whole of Cang Qiong Mountain for being unsafe and neglecting kids. Health and safety man. Gotta take it seriously👍

Oh yeah we’re gonna be getting an event involving the Miracles
When was the last one? Like Static Shock with the Shackled Miracle in August September?
ever since we’ve kinda just been getting name drops and that one bait and switch with Cang Ji and Leading Researcher
anyways it looks to involve the Withering Miracle so what do we know about it so far
Miracle Number 12  Withering Miracle
Tumblr media
An upside down hollowed pyramid miracle named  “Withering“ due to it’s noticeable and constant well...withering
Tumblr media
Located within the Debia, Oasis and Tabaton region
First making it’s appearance in 2021 four year before Shackled Miracle
possibly responsible for the creation of Noba Ruins upon it’s appearance similar to the Shackled Miracle creating the Shackled Ruins when it appeared
Tumblr media
It is an active Miracle and as such produces miramon that do attack and have to be pushed back on
Tumblr media
Debia relies on the City Defense Force, Oasis uses bounty hunters and Tabaton has their Militia with very few combat specialized espers to rely on with Elaine [NYX] being the only noticeable one (we know of at this time) that is currently living in the area
Tumblr media
And currently the only active research on the Miracle is by the Oasis’s bounty hunters who are being supported by The House of Ramses for their Guardian Project (still in development)
Tumblr media
So that’s that ... so what next ?
well it looks like The Withering Miracle is bringing along...~~NEW SPECIAL MIRAMON~~
Yaaa~
Tumblr media
Keep in mind this is what normal miramon look like canonically
Tumblr media
and here’s another one handing one of the top seven powerful espers
Tumblr media
But ya SPECIAL Miramon...isn’t this fun~~~
Tumblr media
The Miracle Messenger - Chimera and it’s gonna be your job to make sure this triple changer son of a gun stays inside there or you know... drop the ball and he get’s out and causes mass death and destruction. Which ever floats your boat.
No pressure
Have fun kiddo

hello! i was the anon who recommended nan chan to you. i’m glad that you’re liking it so far. it’s such a beautiful novel. i really love the way tang jiuqing writes. looking forward to your thoughts!
Hi! :) Yep so far I'm really enjoying Cang Ji's journey to becoming human and understanding the complexities of being human. Also I like some of the imageries - imageries are everything to me, for example this otherwordly imagery that reads like a creation myth:
Jing Lin’s body was heavy, his arms light, he encircled Cang Ji like there was a lake stretching between his arms. The carp slid into the lake and stayed still, and Jing Lin, holding the body of water, passed out into a slumber. Waterdrops dripped from the roots and vines of the mountain god, and Jing Lin felt as if he also became a fish that was sunk in the warm water.

Getting to Know Your BL Mutuals
rules: answer the questions and tag some people. include the tag ‘g2ky BL mutuals 2022’ on your post so we can find everyone’s answer.
thanks to @yanwushi for the tag- I am finally doing this!!! Doing both novels as well as visual media
What have been BLs that took you by surprise this year?
Wushuang/Peerless. I was going to read it eventually, but Thousand Autumns is such a favorite I was putting it off because I thought there was no way Wushuang could be as good as its predecessor. @yanwushi finally got me to read it and omfg... seriously the only person more obsessed with Cui Buqu than Feng Xiao is me. This one rocketed to the top of my favorite novels in record speed. I also want to mention that as someone who is chronically ill, I really appreciated the way Cui Buqu's disability was handled- honestly I think it's the best portrayal of chronic illness/disability I've read in a c-novel.
Nan Chan. I hate calling this book weird because I think that's a loaded term but it's unusual for sure, and I didn't expect to fall in love with a book that's about a sword and a demon carp. As someone who is autistic I got a lot out of both main characters trying to figure out how to act "human" and deal with identifying and processing their emotions. Also I just think that Cang Ji should be able to eat whomever he wants, as a treat.
Little Mushroom. “你只是一只很小的蘑菇” CRYING SCREAMING THROWING UP. I never in a million years expected to be emotionally compromised by a book about a sentient mushroom but here we are. Normally I love angst but I had to stop reading and check if it had a happy ending because I honestly couldn't have handled it if it didn't (it does). Also honestly one of the best pieces of post-apocalyptic fiction that I read and I loved the aspects of cosmic horror in the second volume.
It's not technically a BL, but Under the Skin (c-drama). I usually don't watch modern crime dramas for personal reasons, but I decided to give it a chance for language practice and because I like Tan Jianci. I expected to have it on in the background and instead the show grabbed me by the throat and wouldn't let go. (tho it made me impatient for the Mo Du/Silent Reading donghua and live action, and for Winner is King. when???)
What have been BLs that you felt a bit disappointed with this year?
Copper Coins. I enjoyed it and I thought that Xue Xian is a delightfully full-of-himself protagonist but to me it felt like a young author's early work that needed trimming in some parts and expansion in others. I just really felt like it wasn't the masterpiece that I'd heard it talked up to be. (Although to be fair I think I did it a major disservice reading it after Nan Chan)
The Defective's donghua. It just didn't grab me at all which sucks bc I like the novel, and I really hated what they did with some of the female characters (wtf is with Penny's character design and what was with the choice to have Mint never speak??)
Legend of Exorcism donghua. I know there are people who adore this show, and I desperately wanted to like it... but there was something I can't quite put my finger on that turned me off. I think I would like it more if I'd read the novel, I felt like there were undercurrents of a good story that weren't being properly delved or something. That said, it did pique my interest enough to put the novel on my to-read list, and I'm looking forward to getting to it.
What has been your favorite BL this year?
WushuangWushuangWushuangWushuangWushuang. Did I mention Wushuang already?
Favorite BL/GL couples (not just of 2022)
Feng Xiao & Cui Buqu (Wushuang), Gu Yun & Chang Geng (Sha Po Lang), Yan Wushi & Shen Qiao (Thousand Autumns), Ranwan (Erha)
If you had to suggest a BL for someone what would it be?
If you like xianxia and a quirky found family (and also knives), hands down Liu Yao: The Revitalization of Fu Yao Sect by Priest
If you're more into wuxia elements and rivals-to-lovers-but-still-rivals, Wushuang/Peerless by Meng Xishi.
Please, more people need to read these books. Also if you're looking for more things to read, I have a libguide reading list here! I need to update it, but it's an ongoing project. Let me know if there are any BL you think I should add!
What’s your non-BL favorite this year?
WIND BLOWS FROM LONGXI *banging pots and pans together* screaming, crying, throwing up. IT'S SO GOOD. I desperately want more "gritty" historical shows like this one. The Three Kingdoms Period is one of my special interests and Chen Kun is one of my favorite actors, seriously this show was almost tailor-made for me. Also for you Guardian fans out there Bai Yu is one of the two main characters.
Honorable mention to Love Between Fairy and Devil, which made me take back everything I had previously said about Dylan Wang Hedi's acting.
Tagging: I think everyone I'm mutuals with has already done this, but if you see it and you want to please pretend I tagged you :)

nan chan lines that drive me absolutely feral:
“Come closer. You are now the meat closest to my heart; I can’t afford to lose you.” Don’t worry about my son, Cang Ji, this is just how he flirts...
Jing Lin’s “Have you ever wondered? If the one to be devoured in the end would be you or me?”
and Cang Ji’s reply, “It doesn’t matter if I’m the one. As long as I’m together with you.” I’m obsessed with how to Cang Ji, devouring Jing Lin = being one with him and never parting from him. And that’s why he wants to devour him so much like. My bro, you’re just in love with him
“Do you want me to promise you that I won’t make Qianyu forget Zuo Qingzhou, or do you want me to promise you that I won’t forget you in the future?” I really loved Qianyu and Zuo Qingzhou’s arc, especially when you start realizing the parallels between them and past CangLin so the delivery of this whole scene and line is just so intense.
“From now on, if you are the lotus pond’s lotus, I can be the lotus pond’s fish.”
“I’m the only one you can believe. There are devils everywhere. The only one you can trust is me.” and “There are millions upon millions of people coming and going in this world. The only one I trust is him.” PEAK ROMANCE!!!
Cang Ji’s “You live, I live. You are my life.” and “You’re alive!”
Cang Ji’s line, “There’s a man I love... I yearn to see him in the day, and I yearn to see him at night.” from 93 which is a parallel to Jing Lin’s, “There’s a man I love. In the clouds. In the sea. In my heart.” this line is literally what made me finally read Nan Chan so I’m putting it here to hopefully bait you into reading it as well lol
and of course, how could I ever forget the heartwrenching “…Gege. Take me home.”

Nan Chan - Rec
So a while ago I made a post on Qiang Jin Jiu (go check it out if you haven’t) and since I looove the main couple and the story in that novel so much (#cezhousupremacy) I decided I would give Nan Chan another chance.
I had tried reading it before a few times, but never manages to get past the first few chapters. Since I dropped Wu Chang Jie though (the rare novel that had me say “yeah that’s too much non con for me”) I thought Nan Chan could make for a nice palate cleanser since it’s not that long and completely translated.
And I am really glad I gave it another shot. This time I got over the initially bumpy beginning and got really invested in thiis world and our main characters and their trials and tribulations.
If I had to summarise Nan Chan I would say stony faced guy who murdered his own father and his (lvl 80 Magika-) Carp Boyfriend go on a journey and make a very strong case for atheism!
Stony faced guy is Jing Lin, who starts out the story completely aloof from the world, uncaring of anything and seemingly just trying to recuperate after a very bad injury. His only companions are a little stone figure (which can move) and a little carp in a pond that longs to do nothing more than eat him up (literally).
The vore is very intense in the beginning (for me, since I’m not really into that) but thankfully this desire to eat him becomes more and more figurative as the story goes along. Along the way both Jing Lin and Magikarp guy (Cang Ji) try to suss out what happened in the past to get them to where they are now and fight the occasional bad guy (and then Cang Ji opens his Hungry Hungry Mouth and consumes them, usually). They bicker and flirt and what I really appreciate, they do actually fight together at times with the fight scenes being described in clear detail and in a way that usually let me see what was happening very easily in my mind.
I’m going to put my view on the ending (it’s HE) behind a spoiler cut, but all in all the author shows once again that the way she writes couples just hits all of the right notes for me and I was SO so happy to see them get the happy ending they so badly deserved.
As a note, trigger warnings do apply, if Dubcon is not your thing between a main couple I would say stay away and if child abuse is something that triggers you, maybe avoid this novel.
All. that being said though, if what I wrote up there sounds good to you and you too would like to enjoy the adventures of Cang Ji and Jing Lin you can read it here
Now for the ending. SPOILERS:
So, this might in part be because I was inhaling the last bit and sneaking looks at work because I couldnt stop, but I found the ending a smidgen lackluster, plot wise. Emotionally it still hit the right notes for me (TAKE DOWN THAT FUCKING BUDDHA!!!) and I loved Cang Ji and Jing Lin finally being whole in spirit and freedom to love each other, but I have to admit that emotionally the plot regarting Dong Lin hit me way harder and I wished that the ending could have made me feel that way too.
I think the reveal of Jing Lin’s parentage was not out of left field but coinsidering everything else I was just left a bit cold by it since it didn’t really have much of an impact on the outcome or our characters really. It just kinda felt a bit Aizen HAHA you haven’t even seen my final form.
I do wish the issues/bonds between the brothers had been explored more, since there could have been some really nice juicy content there but I guess that was beyond the scope of this story.

Wenzhou from Faraway Wanderers
Characters: Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu
Submission:
Chapter 63 my beloved... there is a super significant and intimate scene where Wen Kexing bites Zhou Zishu's wrist, drinks his blood, and then rips up his own clothes to dress the injury. And then they cuddle to sleep on the bloodied sheets. It's such a good scene okay. Also it ends with my favorite line in the novel: "And just like that, they fell asleep in each other's arms, steeped in the scent of blood." Wenzhou thesis statement fr fr.

Cezhou from Qiang Jin Jiu
Characters: Shen Zechuan / Shen Lanzhou and Xiao Chiye / Xiao Ce’an

Then again, if I had a man with big pretty badonkers, I would also chomp on that shit...

I just love Tang Jiuqing’s writing! And there’s also the way all the novels are so different from each other, like Nan Chan is in a completely different genre from Qiang Jin Jiu and Time-Limited Hunt (which I haven’t started, but it’s on my list).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want to read these slowly so I can savour the writing. The translator is doing a great job with these novels.
Edit: Nan Chan really is an excellent example of writing lust and longing without being explicit about it. Especially since at this point even Cang Ji himself doesn’t yet really understand what he is feeling.

Miracle Scholar
A scholar who specializes in knowledge of the miracles (pretty self explanatory)
It is a profession all faction can and do benefit from. Union have some Shadow Decree have them and some will just go do it independently
Weird thing about the ones we have been introduced to so... it’s always a secondary identity for them
Like knowledge of the miracles is SUPER important information but like none of really focus on it
Alice put more of her focus on her witchcraft
Anesidora is about her science
Cang Ji mostly known for being a professor and archeologist
And Narmer  just has his hand in multiple projects and endeavors (the joys of being rich)

Presenting... (drumrolls plz)... SOTY: danmei AU!!!
(Plot bhad me jao this is the stupidest movie I’ve watched after Main Tera Hero - Varun why would you do this to me - so I’m just changing some shit here and there)
- Toh Kahaani shuru hoti hai hamare gud boi Luo Binghe who is v v sanskari and an adarsh vidhyarthi (aka mature for his age gifted child TM who is this close to breaking down lmao)
- Our gud boi comes from the Cang Qiong orphanage and is accepted into the prestigious Sisheng University on scholarship basis
- He gets roomed up with local backbencher Mo Ran who has just broken up with his High School boyfriend Shi Mei and is trying to get him back
- Some shenanigans happen and they fight because Mo Ran thinks Binghe was flirting with Shi Mei (Binghe: i have never done anything wrong in my life ever pls spare me)
- So thus starts out the epic enemies-to-co shizunfuckers-to-fraands backstory!!!! (haan ji you read it right and no neither of them become shizuns)
- Some dumbfuck in college tries to frame Mo Ran, and Binghe with his supreme deductive skills comes to the rescue, thus establishing fraandship
- to say thanks, mo ran drags binghe’s ass into a club and bunhe is mortified because this man Has Never Been In One and is Gud Boi but hey one drink should be fine right? (alexa play vele)
- Several hours later Xue Meng comes to drag shitfaced BingRan out who are both crying their hearts out over failed love lives (Mo Ran mostly cries while Binghe cries in sympathy) with the help of mei twins
(”Xue Meng how come you get the buy one get one free deal without doing anything?” “WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN???”)
- And next morning they arrive hungover to their classes (they have separate classes - u kno what this means)
- Mo Ran gets a heart attack on seeing his ex tuition teacher as a professor, who looks even more pissed off on seeing him (damn chu wanning how red can a face go) which he deserves because 12th grade him is responsible for shit that made cwn leave from his post from their hometown college
- Binghe gets a heart attack on seeing what appears to be a celestial being gifted from the heavens to lowly mortals who they do not deserve. The rumours are true, watching Professor Shen’s face can cure hangovers faster than you can say “LAOSHI”
- 2 years pass and BingRan bond over how attractive their teachers are (prof gu mang and mo xi look at the pining catzuns and go “should we bring out the popcorn?”) and decide to be each others wingmen
- which is WHEN the competition comes in
- Rufeng Corp wants Chu Wanning to work on a project for them and local catzun wants to take on an assistant from one of the students to promote them
- because this is bollywood plot we can’t have simple things so the college decides to host a series of competitions that are thinly veiled excuses for catzuns to see mo wan and bingpup shirtless (xzy: the THINGS i have to do for my ship to sail smh)
- but because this is not karan johar school of nepotism the plot is a bit more sensible ok
- their beloved professors wangxian are doing a marriage and the lans are super rich so half the college gets invited to the destination wedding during the *insert your choice of* holidays (after which competition will start)
- aka time for catzuns and doggos to flirt!!
- local gud boi binghe does a makeup (artist: mo ran) and comes to the sangeet (lets pretend there’s one ok), leaving shen qingqiu choking on his water as all his “Sexy bad boi” fantasies are fulfilled
- mo ran is mo ran and keeps talking about this dude he made out with in the club who ran away before he could see his face (no one notices a certain catzun choking in the background)
-  HOLIDAYS ARE OVER and the competition begins. First up is a test in which Binghe and Mo Ran are among the people who pass
- the second round requires people to pair up in groups of two to build a holy night guardian (or at least semi functioning). Binghe and Mo Ran almost get disqualified because an unknown person sabotages their model but professor chu figures it out in the nick of time and helps them win (Mo Ran: HEART EYES ACTIVATED)
- As people keep getting eliminated, Binghe realizes that Mo Ran desparately wants to win this and be with Chu Wanning and is conflicted on backing out of the competition. Because on one hand there’s this, and on the other if he does Mo Ran would feel like Binghe is doing this out of pity or something
- Conflicted, he goes over to talk about this with Professor Shen. But as he is entering one of the floors, he hears Shi Mei’s voice coming from one of the rooms talking to... assistant TA Hua Binan?
- Some eavesdropping reveals that Shi Mei is planning to sabotage Mo Ran’s chances of losing the third round (which is a 100 meter track race) by spiking his water bottle so that he can go with Chu Wanning to Rufeng and to spite Mo Ran (because Shi Mei is a bastard as always) and his cousin Hua Binan agrees to help him
- Binghe is shocked and goes to Prof shen to talk about this. But what’s this??? Professor Shen is outside??? And Professor Liu who doesn’t like bingbing won’t let him contact Shen??? (anyways Shi Mei is a good sanskari boy, why would he do such a thing? It’s not good to slander people luo binghe smh)
- Clearly matters have to be taken into your own hands bingpup
- So on the day of the competition, Binghe sneakily switches their water bottles and drinks the water with the drug. Predictably as the race begins, he starts feeling woozy and faints halfway into the match which makes Mo Ran stop and run back to get him because WTF BINGHE (shi mei wins the race but no one cares about him so ok)
- In the hospital, everything comes to light. Mo Ran is seconds away from throttling shi mei and then binghe (in whichever order) and professor shen promises to hit him with the fan after he gets better. Ah, bliss. Shi Mei gets disqualified and there’s even talks about expulsion from the college.
- Then comes the big reveal that shocks everyone:
-  Binghe finds out that he’s actually Tianlang Jun’s son (who died of a broken heart after his business failed and wife died in labour) and that a large fund had been created in his name and safeguarded by his cousin Zhuzhi Lang until he came of age.
- Well. Inch Resting.
- with that Binghe decides to back out of the competition, citing that he’ll figure out something else (after giving puppy eyes to prof shen) and the race is done over. MO RAN WINS
- Mo Ran and Chu Wanning have a long talk over wontons after the race and it turns out that Chu Wanning has been in loooove with him for a long time and they did make out at the club that one time so whaddaya know. they decide to secretly date and make it official after Mo Ran graduates (the only exceptions knowing this being bingqiu)
- And Mo Ran forgives Hua Binan. It’s all in the past! Shi Mei is not a concern now! But because Hua Binan is into Chu Wanning as well, ranwan do the ranwan in hbn’s room just to drive the point home (so really the relationship is not so secret but ehhh... anything for cwn to save some face)
- fast forward a few years into the epilogue: everyone’s married, ranwan and bingqiu are married, bingqiu have their own business (where cwn works) while mo ran opened a cafe, shi mei disappeared to god knows where while hua binan landed in jail
- AND THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER THE END
(Karan Johar please return my braincells I need them super badly)

@storytellergirl asked   :    Hello! Are there any book scenes/moments that didn't make it into the drama adaptations and you wish they were kept in? (this is mostly regarding The Pillow Book but you can answer for Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms if you want :)). For instance, I'm reading The Pillow Book currently and I wish that the scene in which A'Li panics over having DH as his "nephew" was featured in the drama, it made me laugh so hard!
I think the scene you’re referring to is actually when A-Li thinks Donghua got Feng Jiu pregnant already and therefore he would have a “nephew” ? Since if Donghua married Feng Jiu, he’d be Yehua’s nephew, not A-Li’s anyway.
Ok that little note ASIDE - Admins agree that we really would like the E.LoD drama to have kept in 1) mentions of time passing 2) Feng Jiu actually Being Qingti’s Wife in the mortal realm arc (in general we would like them to keep the mortal realm arc to the book anyway) 3) Donghua being “Xize” to Feng Jiu the whole time of their journey in Aranya’s dream and his subsequent fuckery w/ Feng Jiu’s memory 4) done the flashbacks in the Aranya-Xize-Shen Ye story a lot better.
We would then like them to take out 1) Non-book-canon stuff in Ji Heng’s backstory that really made the whole thing not make a ton of sense. 2) The weird blood qi thing with Feng Jiu’s birthmark and Miaoluo??? That, uh, didn’t happen. 3) The whole buildup to Miaoluo/killing off literally the whole Biyi Bird Clan. Miaoluo literally happened only at the very end of the book and Donghua actually fought her in Bi Hai Cang Ling. Fanyin Valley in the book is literally just fine and still hanging out where they left them.

Hello! Any warnings for nan chan?, I’m a iffy about their relationship since i feel like ling song jun raised him
heya! ermm actually not really tbh, but feel free to pose more questions or avoid this novel if you’re not convinced!
so linsong-jun isn’t really present for any raising? he’s pretty much asleep, stuffs demonic carp into his sleeve silently without interacting with it, most of the time! and then when carp becomes kid cang ji, he’s a kid for like... a week, and his brain like fast forwards into an adult like in the span of a day - and while he’s in kid form, jing lin... abandons him XD and then proceeds to fall asleep after feeding the kid blood - that happens like over the span of a few days/weeks. there’s no raising XD
it’s just those few days or a week when cang ji is first a kid, he’s still trying to like figure out his limbs and speech patterns, which he does real quickly, and when he does, jing lin abandons him, and cang ji finds his way back - he’s crying like a kid yes, but it’s out of like desperation to be near his favourite, delicious deity-turned-food (he hasn’t figured out just why he has an instinctive need to be near jing lin yet), and when he gets back, jing lin is already asleep!!! jing lin wakes up for a moment, they talk a bit, and then he’s asleep again, and then enemies come and discover them, and then cang ji has to drink his blood and grows up into a teenager, enough to get them both off the mountain they’ve lived at for years. at this point cang ji has literally been in human form for a few days? as a demon as well, cang ji as demonic carp also has one goal, which is literally to devour jing lin to amass greater power/cultivation.
even as a kid, the first thing jing lin says is to warn him that if he wants to eat him he should do it now while he’s weak and groggy/asleep, because he ain’t gonna get another chance. i don’t see how any of this interaction constitutes any sort of loving/nurturing sort of raising! they’re well aware of what kind of ‘creature’ the other is. jing lin doesn’t think that this carp is something or someone he’s even taking care of, and demonic carp/cang ji never once thinks that jing lin is his keep/caregiver/parent etc.
cang ji at jing lin - “yummy food, hungry, if i eat him up we’ll be together forever”
jing lin at cang ji - “a carp that may try to eat me up when he materializes in his human form, but for now it’s a carp, he may stay, but i’m sleeping all the time anyway, i hate person to person interaction, let me just die in this place”
jing lin is literally either asleep, injured, or daring cang ji to kill him, and then once cang ji feeds on his blood twice he’s a young teenager already and physically taking care of jing lin - basically cang ji figures it out on his own, i’d say he’s a house plant that fortunately didn’t die while jing lin was asleep for 80% of the time in 500 years, and the other 20% jing ling was silently feeding him and making sure he’s not too hungry BEFORE gg back to sleep
i guess as an ancient dragon that regresses into a demonic carp as well, it’s natural for his brain to just turn adult-mode on despite being stuck in a kid/teen/young dude’s body for a few weeks/months. as a demon - i don’t think the age thing kind of works either because he’s pretty much ancient.
also while i’m on the topic of warnings as well, jing lin isn’t exactly suicidal i.e. he doesn’t actively seek death, he just doesn’t care if he lives or dies at any point, so doesn’t go out of his way to die or stay alive at least in the beginning, his soul is pretty much injured, hence the perpetual sleeping!
