given historical ranges of different species, what kinds of frogs could have been present for the plague of frogs in exodus?

Fantastic question. Let's assume that the Egyptians considered toads and frogs to be different organisms, and therefore the stories referring to frog plagues indeed mean frogs other than Bufonidae (I think this is a reasonable assumption). If this is the case, there are basically two key candidates: Ptychadena nilotica and Pelophylax saharicus. Ptychadena have the edge over Pelophylax because they are somewhat more tolerant of drier habitats. Sometimes they occur in huge densities, so that every step sends dozens springing away. Both can lay enormous clutches, many thousands of eggs, and in a particularly wet year, I could easily imagine a boom in froglet development that would cause a 'plague'. And because the frogs would be trying to disperse, but heading into habitat that is too dry for them to persist long-term, you would quickly have a lot of dead frogs.

Looks like a correct identification to me! Blarina shrews look a lot alike if we don’t count their size, which is hard to gather from a photo so the only way to be 100% sure would be knowing where exactly this one was spotted. Personally, though, I find that northern short-tailed shrews tend to have shorter snouts than the other species in the genus, which gives them a more “hamster-like” appearance rather than a “rat-like” appearance, if you will. Just compare it to the southern short-tailed shrew (Blarina carolinensis) and Elliot's short-tailed shrew (Blarina hylophaga):

curious- by "all evolutions" do you mean that someone has used (for example) charmander, charmeleon, and charizard, or does that include having also used the gigantamax/dynamax/etc forms? I tend not to play with the megas and such but have run the main line and am conflicted on how to vote

I did intend for all to include the megas and gigantamax, but was fine to leave it to interpretation!

Since mega evos and Gigantamax forms were both limited gimmicks, I think it’s perfectly fine to say you’ve used all without having used the megas or gmax ^^

Okay so @canisbeta I'm gonna make a separate post about the thing I was talking about here because I feel like there's some nuance here that I couldn't fit into a reply (and I don't wanna make you feel bad for asking! I love talking about this! Even though the short answer is "I can't tell you what song")

It's a kind of basic rock song from the early 2000s by an American band who had a couple of hits but isn't really still relevant. The song itself isnt particularly motivational or meaningful

So when this song came out (I think it was 2001), I enjoyed it. It didn't really fit in with the kind of music I liked, but I latched onto it for other reasons so I liked it! But I never bought it. They played it on the radio all the time so I didn't need to.

As the years went on, they understandably played it a lot less often. But every time they did, it felt special! It was a little bit of nostalgia from middle school.

Then, somehow, I started giving it meaning. I noticed that it would play on the radio when I felt sad or anxious. (Logically speaking.... I was sad and anxious a lot. I was looking for comfort and I was bound to find it somewhere)

I took it to mean that it was a sign from the universe that things were going to be okay. I'm not a religious person, but I guess the closest thing to that I have is finding meaning in coincidence. I tend to take a coincidence as a message (from the unknowable machinations of fate/chaos of the universe/whatever.. tbh I don't think about it that much) that something was "meant to be".

So now, that particular basic rock song that I liked when I was 12 is a messenger. When i hear it, i take it as a deep comfort. Don't get me wrong: I know it's kind of silly! And y'all thinking it's dumb doesn't hurt my feelings or anything!! It is dumb! That's part of its power. If it was something inherently meaningful, it wouldn't be something I could stumble across when I don't expect it

As for the reason I can't tell you what it is:

If I do anything that could influence how often I hear it, it could ruin it! I don't own it, I don't seek it out, and I don't tell people what the song is. And it's that I don't trust my friends to not post or play the song around me. But I feel like mentioning it puts it out there and could, butterfly-effect-style, bring the song back to me? If that makes sense? Like shuffling a card into the top of the deck or using a heavier marble in a bingo cage or rolling a weighted pair of dice

But anyway, that's the story of why the radio at work yesterday healed like a solid week's worth of worrying 😂
