I love your Annie design soo much and the hc that her stylist dyed her hair red to match the capitol fashion more, I was wondering if you have any more Annie hcs? I would love to hear them ^^
ofc i have more hc, and sketches! >my Annie was a confident career >if it comes to her look she was latina with dark curly hair, and freackles all over her body
>from kinda rich family, her father had few fishing boats and she was going to take over the buisness after him, she was working with 16 yo old boy, who was later in the games with her (he was not a career and she didn’t know he would be in the games before volounteering)
>her bodycount in the games was 2 (bloodbath and the last standing opponent) on her own and next 3 when she was working with her District partner, so 5 in totall, and it was Annie's idea to cause an avalanche of rocks that crushed their camp, my girlie was determined to win
>my arena for 70th games is inspired by the Green Canyon in Turkey, mostly bc there is a dam right there
Tumblr media
>when everyone was thinking about her as a confident career she mostly wear bright solid colours
Tumblr media
(Everyday working clothes, Reaping outfit, 2 in-between-the-trainings outfits, and dress for the interview with ceasar)
>shes pretty tall (about 178cm)
>after her victory when everyone thought that she win because of her luck not her skills, her stylist starts to dress her in pastel colours that washed her out, to make her look more pale and innocent
>they also dyied her hair red and straighten it, get rid of most of her freackles, starts to just in general making her more white, just everything to make her look more Capitol
Tumblr media
>when they finally become a couple with finnick i imagine theyre dynamic kinda like this
Tumblr media
Like, c’mon, theyre both teenagers basicly, ofc they’ll be stupid together
>more than 1 year after her games annie could function pretty well (like, for her, not totally at her own, still with nightmares and with screaming crying throwing up, losing in her own thoughts etc) but whenever she would be put in public the capitol would put her on so many calming drugs to make sure she wouldn’t make a scene that she couldn’t even speak and wasn’t mentally present at all
>the whole crown for a Victor from president Snow? Don’t remember a thing. Learn that she was crowned from posters and tv
>thats kinda how her friendship with Johanna started, the new Victor was asked to hang out with previous games winner to make it look like Annie was cool and normal
>theyre trio of besties, Annie, Finnick and Johanna, No one can change my mind
thank you very much for the question anon, I’m just so happy that someone asked me this, I love talking about my version of Annie

to dust or to gold
Annie Cresta has been training in District Four's competitive Hunger Games Academy since she was twelve years old. It's an honor to be part of the Academy and learn from all of Four's victors, including the annoyingly well-liked Finnick Odair. In her final year of eligibility, Annie will have to push herself if she wants to be chosen to bring glory to her district.
“Can I ask you something?” Finnick’s voice startles her from her reverie and she turns to find him staring right at her with those piercing green eyes. Annie suddenly doesn’t trust her voice to speak, so she simply nods. “Why did you join the Academy?”She doesn’t really have to think about it. “It’s an honor,” Annie replies, repeating the words she’s been told her entire life. “To represent the district. To bring pride to everyone.”His gaze grows even more intense and she feels heat rise in her cheeks as she forces herself not to look away. “And you believe that?”His cynical tone comes as a surprise. “Don’t you?” she asks, mystified.

i keep thinking about how cashmere and gloss weren’t told of the rebel plan and it genuinely infuriates me????? like cashmere is implied to be forced into sex work like finnick and gloss probably was too since he and cashmere were described as ‘classically beautiful’
it’s like the career districts are legit the direct impact of conditioning children to believe the games are an honour. not to mention there’s a headcanon that kids from 2 are a lot more eager to volunteer, especially for the boys, since they’re most likely gonna be forced into becoming peacekeepers
honestly i would’ve loved for cashmere and gloss to be involved in the rebel plan. imagine katniss absolutely shitting herself when haymitch suggests 1 for an alliance
its too comedic

This post was inspired by lucky lefties district deep dive, so please go watch. I left a similar post in a comment under her video but I wanted to expand on it since I spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about the career districts.
I’ve seen people online with the opinion that 4 is different from the other Career districts somehow. That they either aren’t prone to sending up volunteers or that their tributes aren’t as cut throat.
I personally hate this theory however I can see why people have come to such a conclusion.
In the books the two district 4 tributes are never named and both die very early on despite having supposedly trained their whole lives to survive this sort of thing. Also I doubt the movie helps as in the films the male district 4 tribute is extremely young and is killed by Cato during the bloodbath.
The girl dies later to the tracker jackers along with Glimmer and I think the impression people form because of that is something must be different about 4. Why else would their tributes be so young and die so early?
In the books Katniss does however, mention that it is strange that the district 4 male died so early on and we know he’s 18 unlike in the films, and it’s not hard to imagine that the girl from 4 was simply unprepared when the nest fell on her like Glimmer.
However, I also think the district 4 Victors we end up meeting only serve to confuse people further. We don’t meet many of the district 4 victors but the ones we do see aren’t exactly what you would expect from a career district. Mags who is extremely old, fragile and kind by the time we come to meet her in catching fire and Annie who is described frequently to have suffered a complete mental collapse during her own games.
They’re not exactly the paragon of strength, intimidation and glory that we associate with Careers like Gloss or Enobaria.
Finnick is definitely the most stereotypical career out of all of them, at least in appearances and stature, but throughout the books we learn that he is incredibly kind and gentle despite what we’re lead to believe spending most of the first few days in the games caring for Mags and ensuring Katniss’ safety by playing up her pregnancy for the Capitol.
It’s hard for us as the audience to really reconcile the fact that 4 is like 1 and 2 because we actually get to know the tributes from their and we learn that they aren’t as one dimensional as we’re lead to believe with the others.
So yes I do believe all 3 were careers. I think Mags probably formed a pack similar to the one we see Coral forming in Tbosas she was probably an earlier example of a career. Meanwhile Annie I believe suffered a similar breakdown to Cato after Clove died.
I don’t like how people assume that just because she was well trained and prepared that she somehow wasn’t still susceptible to trauma. If she was a career then we can assume she grew up close with her partner and like how Cato and Clove had a close relationship. Watching him die so brutally would’ve had an affect on any teenager career or not.
Finnick is definitely the hardest to see being a career ironically enough and that’s simply by virtue of the fact that he was 14 years old when he was reaped.
If the whole point of career tributes is to ensure your district wins and is granted the food and wealth that the Capitol gifts to the victors as a reward then why let a 14 year old child volunteer?
The only reasons I can think of is
1. Either he was some sort of prodigy (though I still find this confusing as wouldn’t waiting for him to turn 18 and sending him up with assurance that he might win not be better than sending a half trained 14 year old and hoping he’ll be the first?)
2. He got unlucky. Maybe the reaping system is employed some years or they don’t always manage to get volunteers, though I find this unlikely it is definitely a possibility.
3. Or (and this is more of a personal theory btw) like 1, 4 tries to play the social game with the Capitol and figured sending an attractive, prodigy 14 year old would stir up interest (and provide Finnick with a good storyline for interviews) while also ensuring lots of sponsorships based on his looks.
I personally believe the third theory though there’s not much evidence so I would take it with several grains of salt.
However even with all that sorted I believe that district 4 does train their tributes in a slightly different way then 1 and 2 however I think this comes more from a place of culture and propaganda than anything else.
Since district 4 runs the fishing industry they obviously have access to the ocean. They’re one of the only districts to do so barring maybe 5 and even then 4 has access on a much larger scale. This is bad for the Capitol.
Of course it’s said that Panem is the only surviving nation from after the world changed but they could easily be lying and either way, having a whole district with the potential to utilise the only bit of the world the Capitol doesn’t and cannot have complete control over if they ever decide to rebel means that district 4 is a threat.
I think that the Capitol places a lot of emphasis on inter personal relationships in the district, I also believe that like 11 they are probably heavily monitored, especially on the ocean and that whippings, beatings and executions are probably commonplace as the Capitol wants to discourage any attempts at escape.
I think district 4 has a very close knit community, and that the Captiol does everything it can to tie them to their homeland, establishing roots and connections that mean many people in district 4 don’t want to leave their home.
However I think this is also a double entendre because the close sense of community between district 4 citizens means that they get especially frustrated when their children die in the games and while I’m not saying that the other districts don’t care about their kids as much, something we see, at least in district 12, is a very defeatist attitude towards the games. The kids reaped there have given up before they’ve even made it into the arena and I imagine it’s similar with a lot of the other poorer districts, just accepting their grim reality and not bothering to try and fight. It’s implied in catching fire that 4 outright rebels and on Katniss’ victory tour she describes them as one of the districts angry at the Capitol. I believe this is because the strong emphasis on community bonds and connections means that the citizens in district 4 don’t take the abuse lying down so much as other districts like 12.
This is why I also believe the district 4 focuses primarily on survival when training volunteers. And I don’t mean survival techniques like how to start a fire or stop an infection because I don’t think the Capitol would allow those types of skills to be taught, but I think district 4 basically teaches their tributes to do anything they can to make it home.
We see it with Coral in Tbosas movie where she breaks down sobbing about how all her kills couldn’t have been for nothing. I think this feeling of doing what you have to to make it home ends up being a driving factor behind their teachings.
They’re taught to put morals aside and that even if they’re in an alliance the only one safe to trust is their own partner. Maybe they’re also taught to use whatever they can to endear them to the Capitol, whether that be their looks or their skills in the arena.
So while they’re equally as indoctrinated as 1 and 2 I believe that a lot of their training is focused on doing whatever they need to in order to live.

i see that YOU wanna be bothered too and that you're a d4 enthusiast like me (they're my pookies!!) soooo what's your thoughts on the hc that annie was a career?? 🤭🎤
omg first of all thank you for sending this also i just saw your header and that’s such a slay
this is SUCH a good question and i know it’s so controversial so this is just my personal take!! i totally understand why people might think it’s wrong-
but i do believe that annie was a career and volunteered for the games. i think all victors are damaged from their games in a way and annie is just a different (perhaps more extreme?) example of the affects of being in the arena.
the thing is, you can have all the training in the world- but nothing really prepares you for that kind of violence. especially not seeing your district partner, someone you knew, being decapitated. that is extremely heavy and traumatizing to witness even for someone who volunteered for it. and yes, maybe most careers wouldn’t be impacted by that to the extent that by the human brain is a weird thing and all people react differently.
i saw someone make the comparison between soldiers signing up to join the military and still coming out deeply traumatized by what they saw and i think that’s a pretty good example. you can know what you’re getting into, you can train, you can do whatever- but you’re never truly 100% prepared to go through something like that.
in my opinion, that actually makes her a much more interesting- and no less sympathetic- character! i think a lot of people don’t want to associate annie (and even finnick i see a lot) with being “careers” because the careers are associated with being the bad guys and no one wants their faves to be the bad guys. but the careers were not evil/bad people- they were brainwashed children. but that’s another rant for another day.
so yeah idk if any of that even made sense but basically:
yes, annie is a heavily traumatized- but real- career.

You have no idea how deeply obsessed I am with the Annie being a career theory. It’s literally so perfect, it makes so much sense and adds so much more nuance to her character. It actually drives me insane, I wish I had something interesting to add to it but I don’t it’s like I just have “career!annie career!annie career!annie” rotating in my brain like food in the microwave.

people are going to think i'm insane for saying this but the cato/annie parallels are just a silly thing that i think about. it might not seem like it at first but they do have some things in common!!
they're both fierce and brutal as career tributes with intense training and physical ability under their belts (d4 is a career district and annie was 18 in her games, implying she volunteered and therefore she was a trainee). they both had unique dynamics with their district partners - for instance, the infamous "cato kneels beside clove, spear in hand, begging her to stay with him" scene that's popular among clato shippers, and annie having to witness her district partner (someone whom she probably got along with and knew from back home) being beheaded in front of her. they're both described as having mental illness issues - katniss sees cato as a temperamental meathead who's extremely violent and deranged, and annie herself also went mad because of the violence of her games.
and yeah, annie's a lot less rage-prone and violent when compared to cato, but she's not nearly as timid as fandom likes to think so it stands to reason that she also was a menace in her own arena. also her and cato are both described by katniss as having problems with their mental health (annie's is more confirmed while cato's is just about the fact that katniss doesn't like him as a person and sees him as a unfeeling sycophant/murderer despite her sympathy for his fate). those mental health issues that katniss described literally were a direct result of the violence of the games and being raised as career tributes - just in different fonts: cato apparently went insane from his craving for violence, whereas annie watched someone die in a horrifically violent way. in both cases the career mentality and violence altered their mental states forever, and even though annie is more a beloved side character in the series while cato only appeals to a specific niche within the fandom, it's worth a conversation.

It's so interesting to me that all of the victors who voted no in the symbolic hunger games all won passively while those that voted yes won through violent action. It's definitely a commentary on the cycle of violence and how the victors (victims) who directly were taught and conditioned to repeat the behaviors the capitol wanted, to survive, are more accustomed/predisposed to the idea of violence once again and an eye for an eye while those who did not repeat that cycle - or wanted out like Beetee - and who were less exposed to these behaviors did not want to repeat them

I need the hunger games to go back to no longer being relevant to most people because I keep getting genuinely heated over other people's opinions on a ya series and it's embarrassing

i very much have little to no evidence on what headcanon i have, but i’m still putting it out there
i genuinely think that volunteering in career districts was done as an act of defiance until the capitol manipulated it.
like i cannot see kids volunteering if they witnessed / knew of the conditions the first lot of hunger games was in. why would they? tributes were kept in cages, treated like zoo animals, literally given medical exams by an actual vet.
who would volunteer for that?
now we know that after lucy gray’s game, snow put forward the idea of sponsors, victory village etc. luxuries really. but i don’t think that would be enough for someone from 1,2,4 to volunteer.
i like to imagine ppl from those districts did volunteering out of loyalty to their people. protecting the weak and vulnerable, you get me?
but of course that defeats the purpose of the games. now they lack the control, sometjing the capitol has to maintain in order to secure order and therefore manage chaos.
so what’s a better way of gaining control than controlling the volunteering system in the districts? it’s constantly reminded to readers that preparing for the games is forbidden, but the capitol seem aware that these kids are prepared prior. it’s never outright stated, but it’s almost like an unspoken fact. even districts, who lack details about each other, are aware of it.
the capitol would’ve easily been able to manipulate the career system. propagating volunteers who win, for example, would definitely be a method. highlighting how extravagant their lives are. meanwhile it’s so easy to vilify someone who “benefits” from the system. thus, hatred is directed at career tributes and not the capitol.
perfect method of deflection

One thing I love writing for THG is people's first impressions of Finnick when they don't know everything he's been through and yet I don't think I've ever actually gotten it into a fic I've posted because most of what I've posted has been from Finnick's POV. But I love how in the books we get introduced to him through Katniss's point of view and how she thinks he's completely vapid and self-obsessed and then getting to learn with her that it's all an act is honestly what cemented him as one of my favorite characters. So I love getting to write my own versions of people realizing they misjudged him.

What's your opinion about District 4 as Career District? Thank you :)
@curiousnonny
Well. It depends.
In the book we know 4 is considered a career district. I think that really makes it interesting to consider Annie and Finnick. I think we can argue that despite being young, Finnick probably volunteered. He wouldn't have known those skills from trade training alone, not at 14. Annie didn't have her breakdown until DURING the games, and I maintain that she is not crazy just severely traumatized. Severe PTSD in that girl.
Canonically they are a career district. In THG first movie we don't see that, we see Cato take that 4 boy out IMMEDIATELY in the Bloodbath when he's hiding in the cornucopia. (In the book he also died in the blood bath, but the girl was with them and died with Glimmer from the Tracker Jacker attack I believe). So depending on which canon you take, you determine if they're careers or not.
I think it makes SENSE that they'd be careers. Fishing would be a big resource for a place like Panem especially when you consider the champagne taste of the capitol. Finnick would make sense as a volunteer, because he was young but he was CLEARLY skilled, and the glory of being the youngest victor ever would be a draw for careers.
The...loyalty.. of D4 as a career district is definitely called into question during the Quell. Very naturally D1 and D2 ally themselves together, but Finnick is not included in that alliance (for reasons we know and understand, but if D4 were SOLIDLY careers it would have been expected for him to team up with them). I think 1 and 2 are ALWAYS careers ALWAYS volunteers and are a solid alliance always.
As the local careers apologist and enthusiast I am team D4 career supporter.
If only because Finnick has that career boy arrogance.
