supernatural s4e14 sex and violence (w. cathryn humphris)
Yeah. You see, sirens can read minds. They see what you want most and then they can kinda, like, cloak themselves. You know, like an illusion.

Sex and violence
I know that the so-called heterosexual explanation for why Dean's siren looks like a man is that he's looking for a "little brother". However in the venerated tradition of this show, that just makes it come off as incestuous. The vibe Dean has with the Siren is so horny.
We get a glance at Bobby's phone wall, very cute world building detail.
It's all so insane because the Siren is so Dean's Dream Boy. Like he compliments his car. He's into Zeppelin.
And then the strip club as heterosexual plausible deniability background....
The way the episode parallels it with Sam getting with the doctor........
The insanely horny hotel confrontation. When the Siren spits into Sam's mouth 👀 wtf..................

lol
this is the popular take ("you should only watch seasons 1-5") but imo s5 is extremely overrated and the first real signs of decay show up there.

DEAN All right, maybe it is fairy tales. Totally messed-up fairy tales. I tell you one thing, there's no way I'm kissing a damn frog.

some of you all don’t seem to realize that, no matter what you personally think of people like kripke or gamble, maybe the interesting themes in supernatural are less of an accident and more of the result of having a diverse pool of people - jewish, men and women - working on a story that were interested in exploring themes like american masculinity and religion.
sorry, i know it makes for funny posts, but the narrative didn’t write itself. people wrote it.
and you might not like sera gamble but she and raelle tucker were there since the beginning of the show and a lot of themes we love about the show came from her. cathryn humphris also wrote some foundational character-driven episodes. the supernatural writing room was never an esclusively male space. and i really don’t think that the jewishness of several people involved in the making of the show - like the very creator himself, just saying - is accidental to how the narrative came out... like, the narrative is quintessentially jewish. it’s no accident supernatural contains subversions of aspects of hegemonic american culture. or is about fighting god.
