Initially, I was conflicted by Se-ra’s masturbation scene, as I felt that the level of explicitness was unnecessary. I was so convinced that exposing her addiction was sufficient. However, I came across a tweet by ldh_kenki, who translated the caption attached to her poster : “Sara - the hand that mocked and broke others”. Now this explicit scene for me has such a powerful purpose.
The hands that were used to hurt DE and many other victims + bring them to their knees, are now the same hands that lead to Se-ra’s downfall. She used her hands to hit and burn people, and now the exact same hands burned down her facade of a ‘good, churching going girl’ ... and it was done in a way that also mocked her ... whereby her once allies now made fun of her actions/hypocrisy.
After years of watching shows use sex scenes as a filler or a form of violence, it’s great to see a s ex scene have such symbolism and be a major plot point. This show is just so damn brilliant.
Edit:
Also, I just realized that the cameras recording her was meant to parallel all the times she stood by and recorded YJ bullying various victims.
ah Yeo-jeong ! what a mystery you still are! starting off at the hospital, which still hasn't been fully explained. golden retriever energy and yet not really.
