I love in Dune how there’s a whole elaborate (and elaborated!) system that covers poisonings between the Great Houses.

Rules of war for who you can and can’t poison, “poison snooper” devices that you have at your place setting like utensils, specific words for poison in food vs drink (chaumas vs. chaumurky, also called “murky” or “musky”!)…

…and then like one dude in the entire book gets poisoned with chaumurky and it’s one item on a list of 4 or 5 things the Atreides are dealing with.

Oh lol it's an old bit at this point but in 2020 I had a fandom post blow up (over 130k now... yay...) and people kept commenting "megamind" under it because the trope i was talking about was very megamind coded. if you've ever had a post blow up really big in a really short period of time, especially with the layout of 2020 tumblr mobile, you know that it literally obliterates your activity tab. it was fucking unusable. and it got the point of me being genuinely aggravated and trying to get everyone to shut the fuck up because i had already heard "megamind" like two thousand times already PLEASE but nothing I could do would stop it. then I fake deactivated a year later in an attempt to get people to stop following me and the rest is history. it's more of a bit than anything else though, the post has chilled out enough to not be aggravating anymore

can someone please reaffirm for me that individual consumption has a negligible effect on the world and that just because i buy a table or a rug that was probably made in unfair working conditions doesn't mean that i am personally responsible for the wrongs committed during the production of said table or rug mostly the table actually, i found a good fair trade source for the rug. but tables are more difficult if i want to spend less than $1000. like i know i know, "the price reflects the value of the materials and labor, and it's unrealistic to expect a solid wood dining set to cost less than $3000 without cutting corners in forestry and labor" but on the other hand consider: the table already exists. and i don't want to pay thousands of dollars for a table. i'm sort of agonizing over it.

Or just as trans nonbinary? Or, even, as now trans fem and nonbinary? FTMTF?
