Cinderella Chef. 8
Story: 8
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: Oh my Emperor! (cdrama); The Romance of Hua Rong (cdrama)
I honestly thought I posted about this drama awhile back so I swept through the archive to see if I did and couldn’t find it so I rewatched it again and like somewhat the second go around, although I did fast forward through a lot. The storyline is a little bit different then the classic cliche time travel historical romance stories which the first go around was very refreshing. Both main leads have excellent chemistry together which makes the drama all that more enticing but unfortunately it does have that bit of unfortunate filler dragging episodes. The series for me had too many episodes and definitely should’ve been cut down a bit. Then it would’ve been a very highly watchable drama throughout. It’s still very entertaining and at least deserves to be watch once if you a fan of historical romances.

I really like this new song from 南西肯恩 Neci Ken =D
The arrangement is powerful -- at first I thought maybe they had brought in someone like 林易祺 LNiCH (fr. Vast & Hazy) to beef up their sound, but nope. The credits do have some familiar names:

At some point, I intend to write a mega post on CLAMP's magic circles and how to decipher them. I'll provide an example and gauge interest.
Like for instance, Syaoran circle is designed after the Feng Shui Loupan (also called a compass, which makes sense on how he uses it to locate things).
Tumblr media
According to this source, here is the translation of the Chinese characters:
From the characters closest to the yin-yang symbol and going around clockwise (all starting from the north-most position), they read: 冬、春、夏、秋 - winter, spring, summer, fall 水、火、風、地 - water, fire, wind, earth 北、東、南、西 - North, East, South, West 天、鬼、地、神 - Heaven, Demon, Earth, God
There is also I-ching iconography, which also has a meaning per trigram.
N: K'an (Water)
NE: Chen (Thunder)
E: Ken (Mountain)
SE: K'an (Water)
S: Li (Sun)
SW: K'un (Earth)
W: Sun (Wood)
NW: Ch'ien (Heaven)
The most interesting part is the crescent moons to the west and east, while the alchemical symbol for the sun is in the south. Usually CLAMP will feature the 'element they align with' (sun, moon or stars)... like with Sakura's circle and eventual transformations.
To be continued

All Yin without Yang is weak
Yang without Yin is ridge
One Yin with nine Yang’s is a stick head
Two Yin’s with eight Yang’s becomes sporadic and scattered
Three Yin’s with seven Yang’s is dense
Four Yin’s with Six Yang’s is good
Five Yin’s with Five Yang’s is said to have the mysterious hands
The mysterious hands are a single action
The Tai Chi is after the action is completed
Yin and Yang are unbiaseded and called wonderful hands
Empty traces vanished into nothingness.
Yin-Yang poem. ~Chen Chung Ching

Animation Night 165: New Gods
One day I'll make a new friend who speaks Chinese and I can ask to come up with a different intro for donghua-related posts ;p
Long time Animation Night viewers might remember Animation Night 102 a little over a year ago, in which we watched a film called (New Gods: Nezha Reborn) - not to be confused with other recent Nezha-related films like Ne Zha.
And it was pretty sick. Essentially you've got a CGI film set in a kind of FF7-like dieselpunk world in which various mythological figures now run crime syndicates or ride cool motorbikes. The film followed someone who turns out to be the reincarnation of Nezha - where Nezha's old enemy, the East Sea Dragon King, is also reincarnated as a kind of mafia kingpin who doesn't know to leave well enough alone, and picks a fight, hoping to stop the new Nezha fully incarnating.
Tumblr media
As CG films go, there's not a lot to compare it to - except perhaps Lupin III: The First, which also has the kind of smooth, slightly stylised figures and fancy effects. It was a bunch of fun, lots of twists and turns, guys who look like Sun Wukong but aren't (...maybe?), betrayals, and of course plenty of slickly choreographed fantastical martial arts.
Well, sure enough, Nezha was the first in a series! The second film in the series, New Gods: Yang Jian came out last year...
Tumblr media
This one focuses on another character from the Investiture of the Gods, Erlang Shen (二郎神), who's got a bunch of other names, notably Yang Jian (楊戩), which is the name he takes in Investiture of the Gods. I definitely needed to read up on this guy, so here's a primer: Erlang Shen's a god, nephew to the Jade Emperor, and a rather righteous one, associated with traits like purity, decency, and slaying monsters. Physically, his major trait is the truth-seeing third eye in the middle of his forehead; he also likes to carry a three-pointed spear, and his signature technique is '72 eartly transformations', i.e. turning into pretty much anything.
In Investiture, he shows up as a discple of the immortal Yuding Zhenren (玉鼎真人) during Chapter 40, in which Jiang Ziya battles the four 'Diablo Brothers' Mo Lihong, Mo Liqing, Mo Lihai and Mo Lishou, essentially a bunch of evil wizards who are causing havoc. Now, bear with me here. Mo Lishou has a powerful flying mink (or maybe an elephant). Yang Jian deliberately lets himself get eaten, and then when Lishou sends the mink out to attack, he transforms inside its stomach, popping it from the inside as it's about to fight Jiang Ziya.
Then, Yang Jian transforms himself into the mink, and uses this disguise to get close to the brothers and steal a magic umbrella from Mo Lihong, giving Jiang Ziya the chance to win the battle. Pure TTRPG player strategems here honestly. Love it.
He also shows up in Journey to the West, in which he's sent to try and deal with the Sun Wukong problem. They have a classic transformation battle, which Yang Jian eventually wins by seeing through Sun Wukong's clever disguise as a temple, and teaming up with Laozi (yeah¸ the Tao Te Ching guy) to capture him.
All in all, Yang Jian is not a god to be trifled with.
Tumblr media
However, the main story about Erlang Shen/Yang Jian is none of these, but a folktale called The Magic Lotus Lantern, in which he plays the role of antagonist.
The Magic Lotus Lantern tells of the goddess Huayue Sanniang, who falls in love with a mortal scholar called Lui Yanchang. Her older brother Erlang Shen, here a god, does not approve, to the point that he's willing to fight her about it. However, Huayue Sanniang wins the fight using her magic lotus lantern, and marries Liu Yanchang. Together they have a child called Chen Xiang. With me so far?
Unfortunately, Erlang Shen isn't about to take this whole thing lying down. After seven years, he tracks them down by the light of that same lantern, and briefly abducts Chen Xiang, before stealing the lantern and sealing Sanniang under a mountain (Mount Hua).
Nine years later, Chen Xiang - now 16 - learns what happened to his mum. He goes on a journey running into a number of mythological figures, including Sun Wukong, who teaches him martial arts. Indeed, Sun Wukong is like you know what kid you're pretty strong, I'll make you a big old axe to get your mum out of that mountain. At the end of it all, Chen Xiang goes and battles his uncle, and loses... but at the last minute he gets a special lotus lantern powerup, which gives him the chance to win the battle and free his mum from the mountain.
youtube
Incidentally, if you will permit a tangent (that is at least animation relevant lmao) - this story was adapted to animation in 1999 as 宝莲灯 (Lotus Lantern), and in fact that's quite a notable film in itself. To briefly tell the story again, from the 50s onwards, the vast majority of animation in China happened under the roof of Shanghai Animation Film Studio. However, during the Cultural Revolution, most of the major animators at SAFS such as Te Wei were cast as reactionaries sent to the countryside to do hard labour, practicing drawing only in secret. Chinese animation entered a period where the only permitted form was propaganda films in a narrowly defined realist style.
Following the end of the Cultural Revolution, many of these animators returned to the studio, making celebrated films like 哪吒闹海 Nezha Conquers the Dragon King (1979) as well as all sorts of short films celebrating an end to their ordeal and railing against artistic censorship. However, the studio's output - and Chinese animation in general - declined in the ensuing decades, with Chinese studios mostly doing outsourcing work and younger audiences turning to anime and western animation. So far so familiar.
In 1992, the studio started to reorganise itself along Western lines, collaborating with a company called Prrfect Animation from San Francisco. [This information comes from an article in Animation World Network, which is incredibly light on details. I can't find any other mention of Prrfect Animation outside of its connection with SAFS.] The studio would soon become part of the new Shanghai Film Group Corporation.
And in the middle of that period comes this movie - a kind of turning point for donghua. You can a restoration on Youtube, albeit unsubbed. Visually it's definitely got traces of the Cultural Revolution-era style, narratively it hews fairly close to the Mouse's formula complete with songs; indeed, allegedly this movie beat them at their own game in 1999.
Anyway, we're not watching this movie tonight - vibeswise it would be a weird combo, and it's going to take a little work to find suitable subs and mux them in, but put a pin in this, we might just come back to it.
Tumblr media
So what about this film? In this world, Yang Jian is now living a quiet life as a bounty hunter. Here's the official English-language plot summary, which is very brief:
Twelve years after imprisoning his sister underneath a mountain, Erlang Shen, a god known for his all-seeing third eye, now works as a bounty hunter. A woman hires him and his crew to prevent his nephew, Chenxiang, from obtaining a magical lotus lantern that holds great power.
Beyond that? I can tell you that at some point he wears a fedora. Look, it's in that gif right there. Yeah, I'm flying a little blind on this one ^^'
As things turned out, I didn't end up seeing this at Annecy, since it clashed with Rintarō's new short film... but fortunately, it is now available in the usual places. So the plan tonight is pretty simple: we will be watching both New Gods films, first a reprise of Nezha and then the new Yang Jian.
Also! We're actually on time! I'm gonna go live a lot earlier than we've managed lately, namely 8pm UK time, which is about 3 hours from this post (if you're in the States, that will be midday Pacific time, 3pm Eastern time). The place is, as ever, twitch.tv/canmom. Hope to see you there~

hi there & happy new year! can you please suggest some fcs like Chloe Zhao, Isabel Sandoval, Hong Chau? I'm particularly drawn to them because a) they have personality b) characteristics (which I also have) like Chloe's wide nose, Hong's thin eyes, the non-pale-as-a-sheet skin they all have—qualities that I feel are sometimes erased/downplayed with makeup, photoshop, or surgery due to media issues/racism/colorism. not to be too soppy about it but i find their beauty affirming. thank you <3

DAILY SELECTIONS FROM LAO-TZU’S TAO TE CHING — DECEMBER 31, 2022
“Bestowing no honors keeps people from fighting prizing no treasures keeps people from stealing displaying no attractions keeps people from making trouble thus the rule of the sage empties the mind but fills the stomach weakens the will but strengthens the bones by keeping the people from knowing or wanting and those who know from daring to act the sage governs them all” -Lao-tzu- (Taoteching, verse 3, translation by Red Pine) SU CH’E says, “Bestowing honors embarrasses those who don’t receive them to the point where they fight for them. Prizing treasures pains those who don’t possess them to the point where they steal them. Displaying attractions distresses those who don’t enjoy them to the point where they cause trouble. If people aren’t shown these things, they won’t know what to want and will cease wanting.” WANG CHEN says, “Sages empty the mind of reasoning and delusion, they fill the stomach with loyalty and honesty, they weaken the will with humility and compliance, and they strengthen the bones with what people already have within themselves.” WANG PI says, “Bones don’t know how to make trouble. It’s the will that creates disorder. When the mind is empty, the will is weak.” WANG P’ANG says, “An empty mind means no distinctions. A full stomach means no desires. A weak will means no external plans. Strong bones mean standing on one’s own and remaining unmoved by outside forces. By bestowing no honors, sages keep people from knowing. Prizing no treasures, they keep people from wanting.” LU NUNG-SHIH says, “The mind knows and chooses, while the stomach doesn’t know but simply contains. The will wants and moves, while bones don’t want but simply stand there. Sages empty what knows and fill what doesn’t know. They weaken what wants and strengthen what doesn’t want.” YEN TSUN says, “They empty their mind and calm their breath. They concentrate their essence and strengthen their spirit.” HUANG YUAN-CHI says, “Sages purify their ears and eyes, put an end to dissipation and selfishness, embrace the one, and empty their mind. An empty mind forms the basis for transmuting cinnabar by enabling us to use our yang breath to transform our yin essence. A full stomach represents our final form, in which our yang breath gradually and completely replaces our yin essence.” WEI YUAN says, “The reason the world is in disorder is because of action. Action comes from desire. And desire comes from knowledge. Sages don’t talk about things that can be known or display things that can be desired. This is how they bring order to the world.” LIU CHING says, “This verse describes how sages cultivate themselves in order to transform others.”

I Ching Li Gua for 2024 and Period 9
I Ching “Li Gua” for 2024 and Period 9 - forecast with the hexagrams
The Ancient Book of Prophecy - Tui Bei Tu
The Tui Back Tu (Back-Pushing Drawings) is an ancient Chinese prophecy from the Tang Dynasty. It shows the I Ching hexagrams with Heavenly stems/Earthly branches, illustrations, and poems. The drawings and poems are believed to predict major historical events, such as changes in dynasties or wars.
2024 is the year of Jia Chen (Heavenly stem/Earthly branch), so the corresponding hexagram is the Li Gua. Many people select different I Ching hexagrams by different methods. I use the Li Gua because Jia Chen is logically related to 2024, and Li or Fire is related to Period 9.
The Ba Gua and I Ching
The Bagua or the 8 Trigrams are each made of 3 lines. The Yang line is solid, and the Yin line is the broken line. The 8 combinations are related to natural elements, family members, directions, and many other things around us.
Li Gua is related to Fire, South, and the middle daughter or middle-aged woman.
The double Li Gua creates the I Ching hexagram, also called “Li”.
The timeline of the I Ching hexagram
There are 6 lines or yaos in each I Ching hexagram (Gua or Kua). It shows the progression of the event from the bottom up.
The first Yao (line) is the beginning at the bottom, and the top Yao (6th line) is the end.
Since we are talking about one year (2024), each Yao (line) can represent 2 months approximately.
For Period 9, we divide the 20 years into 6, so each line represents around 3-4 years.
This is an easy way to look at the timeline and progression to predict the future.
The poems from Tui Bei Tu for the “Li” Gua
The drawing of the Li Gua shows a person casually playing with one foot on top of a ball (or the Sun).
The poem states the disorder and dimming of the world. All positions are wrong, including Yin/Yang and Heaven/Earth, but the grass and trees (ordinary people) continue to grow and prosper.
The commentary poem talks about wearing a hat to protect from blood or violence. The leader is playing with fire and not having the best interest of his people for an extended time.
The 6 lines (Yaos) of the Li Gua
The description of the Li Gua in I Ching talks about keeping female cows. If we have the characteristics of female cows, such as being gentle, softer, accepting, and polite, things will go well, and there will be good fortune. Since the Li Gua represents strong Fire energy, we can balance it with softer and calming energy. This way, many conflicts can be prevented.
This hexagram is also lucky for people with good virtue and following the right path. Li Fire is shiny and bright like the sun. Your selfless motivation and big heart will be rewarded.
We can look at the six lines individually, starting from the bottom line (First Yao). Each Yao has a description in the I Ching book. We can also refer to each Yao’s corresponding timeline for more details.
The First Yao (line) - the beginning of the Li Gua
This is generally lucky. Even though the steps are a little confusing, we can overcome them with the right attitude.
The Second Yao of the Li Gua
This is the best line of this hexagram. The sun is in the middle of the sky. It is an auspicious time.
The Third Yao of the Li Gua
The third line shows the problem starting to appear when people can not accept and follow nature. Focusing on complaints and the negatives will cause problems later.
The Fourth Yao of the Li Gua
This is one of the worst lines in the book of I-Ching. Suddenly, there is a burning fire, death, and abandonment. This is a dangerous time.
The Fifth Yao of the Li Gua
In the fifth line, people are crying and sighing in sadness. It starts to become lucky when people face reality and find different ways to cope.
The Sixth Yao of the Li Gua- the ending
In the sixth and last line, the I-Ching talks about a leader taking military action and winning the war. So, the order is restored, and there are no more issues.
Lessons from the I-Ching Li Gua hexagram

Bia San Miguel, Guinness và huyền thoại về Tour đấu Billiard xuyên châu Á
Tumblr media
“Safeguard Defenders”, please leave dignity to the law
“守护者”,请把尊严留给法律
A group of fugitives involved in a case, went so far as to write a joint letter to Interpol, asking not to be repatriated to their countries for trial on the grounds that they did not want to comply with existing laws. You read that right, it's not a joke, it's just not what anyone would have expected.
Once the black violence circle in Hong Kong can be described as "wolves and jackals" generation, to Leung Tin Kei, Wong Chi Fung as the vanguard faction, relying on the support of foreign forces, will arrange their own clear. Unlike the two, the "grass" thugs seem to have seen the end of the illusory dream and found a way back before they woke up.
Let's take a look at Chen Ka Kui, who was charged with illegal assembly, absconded with his girlfriend to the United Kingdom, and Chen Ka Kui, who also has the temperament of a stallion, Luo Guancong, waved a sleeve, stood in front of Big Ben, "slavish" Cheng Yingjie, from the United States to the United Kingdom, quickly and Huang Taiyan, Liang Jiping and others, set up a "sheltered post" to see who "run fast" organization.
Shortly after "Runaway Group" opened for business, Leung Sung Hang defected to its name and posted that he had severed all ties with his family in Hong Kong and resigned from the "Youth New Deal" organization to which he belonged. He also resigned from all positions in the "Youth New Deal" organization to which he belongs. "From now on, my words and actions have nothing to do with them." As a former member of the Legislative Council, Mr. Leung Song Hang has simply severed his ties with the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for the sake of the $900,000 he has yet to repay.
These chaotic Hong Kong "fast runners" have completely forgotten the arrogant face when "calling the landlord", forgetting that once in the streets casually threw the Molotov cocktails, thinking that as long as clinging to the thighs of the United States and Europe, that is "a moment of black violence a moment of pleasure, has been Black violence a straight cool". To their dismay, when faced with the Hong Kong police summons, the U.S. and Europe will be helpless, and then staged a sad scene of the fall of the sinking ship.
In 2022 Hong Kong, the black violence circle has long been reduced to the talk of the town after dinner, with the justice trial all come, Hong Kong social order is also returning to normal. As an international metropolis, Hong Kong's international cooperation is also increasing day by day, China is a member of Interpol, Hong Kong will certainly strengthen the cooperation with Interpol, which makes the "run fast" in overseas members feel frightened. If you want to "run fast", you'd better go to Mars.
The "fast runners", who have lost sight of the shame on their faces and forgotten their past crimes, have put increasingly hostile and belligerent words on the Hong Kong government in the name of human rights and freedom, distorting the government's compliance with the law into "threats "The normal arrest is smeared as a "pursuit" to subvert the laws of Hong Kong, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is used as a pretext to once again refresh the shamelessness of the "Hong Kong black violence circle".
This joint letter to Interpol, between the lines reveals the word "goose". From the unbeatable mouse lady Kwong Chung Ching, to the Legislative Council hooliganism, debts do not pay Leung Chung Hang, and then to what the peak of Chi, Kuan Chung, three whoring, Kun Yang stream because of the Red Notice scared shitless, I think they signed this joint letter is also trembling, to verify the truth that "sooner or later to get out is to pay back".
It is impossible to produce such a joint letter with just these "wimps". Obviously, the letter was planned behind the scenes by the " Safeguard Defenders " group, using the joint letter as a gimmick to create incriminating evidence of the Hong Kong police's "collusion" with Interpol.
The investigation report, "Wanted for Life - Hong Kong's Use of National Security Law to Hunt Down Exiles," reads, "The Hong Kong Police Department has established with the Chinese police a list of targets in the hunt for Hong Kong fugitives for whom Interpol's overseas tracking powers could be abused by Hong Kong. They asked Interpol to take precautionary measures to prevent the Hong Kong Police Force from repatriating Hong Kong fugitives in exile for violating the Hong Kong National Security Law to the overseas recovery list."
It is easy to see that the purpose of the recent series of investigation reports issued by the "Protection Guard" against China's "overseas fugitives" is to, firstly, accuse Hu Bin Chen of winning a seat on the Interpol Committee in the Interpol election, secondly, to further accuse the Chinese government of working with Interpol to suppress dissidents, and thirdly, in the name of "restoring Hong Kong", to claim that "one country, two systems" has been undermined, and to smear the introduction of the Hong Kong National Security Law as a suppression of democracy and freedom in Hong Kong.
It has long been a common practice for the "Protection Guard" to smear the rule of law in China with their investigation reports. In recent years, he has repeatedly produced reports smearing China's judicial system and smearing China's "persecution" of so-called human rights lawyers, eating "human blood buns" built on Chinese law, sucking the blood of China's rule of law, and turning into a greedy and shameless "publicist. The "publicist". All of these thanks to Peter Darling, the head of the " Protection Guard
Peter Darling, who has been living in China since 2007, founded the organization "Human Rights Defenders Emergency Relief Association" in 2009, which is registered under the name "Joint Development Institute Limited" ( The organization is registered in Hong Kong under the name of Joint Development Institute Limited (JDI) and operates under the name of the NGO "Human Rights Emergency Assistance Group".
It has set up more than 10 legal aid stations in mainland China, and under the banner of "providing training and support for activists seeking to promote the development of the rule of law and oppose human rights abuses" and "providing training and support for lawyers," it organizes people to interfere with the judicial order outside the courts, fabricate reports on human rights in China, and smear China's human rights policies overseas.
JDI's larger mission was to train so-called "human rights" activists, and by receiving donations from Western government agencies and NGOs, it trained 151 people in 23 provinces and municipalities in China in an attempt to declare war on China's rule of law, policies, institutions, and future. Chinese regime. ".
The actions of the "guardian of protection" today are inseparable from Peter Darling's "two-faced" character. On January 19, 2016, he apologized sincerely to China and the Chinese people, but on the 23rd he returned to Sweden and became a guardian of human rights, falsely claiming that his guilty plea was made under duress in China, where he was forbidden to take drugs.
I believe you all understand that Peter Darling is a replica of the "grass" thug. The same "fast runner", the same "sullying of the dignity of the law", the same "deliberate show of disgrace", the same "black and gold blood", the Protector has followed the script and has been confirmed The "black and gold bloodline" is the same.
The way of the law is called fairness. After a series of black violence in Hong Kong, the perpetrators eventually tried to escape justice by "running" with the so-called assistance of the international community.
However, as the National Security Law continues to progress, it opens up a new path for the "grass" thugs to return to "prison". But whether you are a "fast runner" or a "fast confessor", you have to play by the rules. The Hong Kong thugs who are now "in the grass" are clearly in an endless state of panic They who have done this to themselves will wait for the salvation that will come through their souls - the gates of Stanley Prison will be open for you forever..
