Six Flying Dragons episodes 49 and 50 (!)
I’m already forgiving all the meow meows… they’re all so sad and cute… Except Bang-won you’re still a piece of shit <3
I don’t know that it was necessary to juxtapose the happy banquet flashbacks with everyone’s death scenes? PD-nim woke up and chose violence
I like the unhingedness of every remaining swordsman (and woman) trying to kill each other all at once. Although in my headcanon Cheok Sa-gwang went away with the Banchon people and chose love over revenge and found a new king and lover in Leader Boon-yi.
The fake monks surviving when my ninja girls all died…… Patriarchy wins again I guess :/
Omg little Yi Do unwittingly quoting Sambong made me tear up. And Boon-yi got to live to see hangul 😭😭😭😭😭 Maybe accessible language and literacy was the hero all along
Thanks again @rain-hat and @drivingsideways for reccing this it has been such a RIDE. Thank god TWDR awaits or I’d have serious separation anxiety by now

The Korean native, whose family moved to Michigan when he was five, will star as a Korean father who uproots his family to move to an Arkansas farm in the 1980s. Isaac Chung is directing from his own script and producing. A24 is financing and producing with Plan B.
Korean actresses Yeri Han 한예리 and Youn Yuh-Jung 윤여정 are making their U.S. debuts. Will Patton and Scott Haze are also starring.
Tumblr media
As far as I know, Plan B is Brad Pitt’s company, right?
According to Korean news article, Han Ye-Ri already finished shooting Nokdu flower 녹두꽃 (2019 SBS) and left for USA. Nokdu flower’s last episode will be aired this weekend. Good luck to you, Han Ye-Ri.
p.s. The title, Minari 미나리, means water parsley(water celery, water dropwort) in Korean. Personally, I like Minari Kimchi. I didn’t know that it also grows in America. (LOL)

Rambling on Red Scrolls of Magic :-)
Tumblr media
The Red Scrolls of Magic is TOTALLY my forte! Oh my gosh, from since the opening, I'm bombarded with lavish descriptions of lavish surroundings, indoor and outdoor, food, clothes, drinks, weather, climate.... it’s so dreamyyy!!
This book is the ultimate dream of every romantic bookworm who's an ideal tourist by heart who wants to go explore all kinds of exotic sceneries, but hates the tedious process of travelling itself and much rather stay at home READING about places if she can't afford an easygoing, smooth modes and methods like Magnus Bane does!
The shameless and generous servings of these descriptions are so overwhelming at times, to the point I cannot read the book nonstop but take it in small portions, savoring each and everything, and occasionally going to kitchen and making myself some satisfying snack just so I won't mouthwater at the next Malec dining scene!
The other best thing about this book? Jung Shin-yoon/ Shinyun Jung. OMG you don't know how much I love it when Western authors include Asian characters in their books, and generally put attention on the beauty of traditional Asian customs and history- no matter how slight it might be.
As an avid Korean History and K-drama fan, this is the second time I am pleasantly surprised and absolutely delighted, feeling like I'm having best of both worlds, a cocktail of two of my most favourite but polar-opposite things. (The 1st time being Rick Riordan presents- Yoon Ha Lee's Dragon Pearl, which is a blend of Traditional Korean mythology and Sci-fi AU)
To make the matters EVEN more great, I know JUST the actress/character to play Shinyun Jung in my head. Cheok Sa-gwang(played by Han Ye-ri) from the epic Six Flying Dragons.
Steely, beautiful and little-to-zero-emotions face? Check.
Master Swordfighting skills? Check.
Regal demeanour and grace? Check.
.
Imagining Cheok Sa-gwang as Shinyun Jung felt seamless.
.
Right now, my head is filled with the gorgeous ensemble of Bucolic scenery, Classic monuments from various cities, Gourmet cuisine, Tuxedos, Matthew Daddario, Harry Shum Jr. and Han Ye-ri.
OH. HELL. YES. Gimme moooree!!!!
.
And don't spoil, because I have yet to finish the book but I just COULDN'T stop rambling for a bit and get it outta my chest. ;-)
.
P.S.- Here are some shots of assassin Cheok Sa-gwang. See whether you feel the same way I did. ;-)

#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK 2020 | In Another World, Another Time... « Jo In Sook & Cheok Sa Gwang & Song Ja In »
I am tired of tears.
환생담 [ hwansaengdam ], reincarnation tales depict characters who die and are reborn as another human, animal, plant or mineral.
reincarnation fascinates me so let me try my hand at this. since time is nonlinear (imo), i will just take this attempt by the order of series airing:
as jo insook longs for a brother separated by the drawing of the 38th parallel, she tries to aid the casualties of war to the best of her abilities as a nurse. but as the year progresses, war worsens her situation for she becomes entangled with the kim siblings, communist party sympathizers from the south. her loyalties lie with the newfound unni who gifted her a hair clip token. at the promise of reunion, she's coerced to participate in covert affairs. cut short by bullets fired by the dear orabeoni all her searching has been for, unaware until it was too late that his tenderhearted little sister was fleeing from that exposed mission.
and then, she wakes up. reunited with a brother but not the one she has been looking for. she is now cheok sagwang, a daughter of the household with the legendary goksan swordsmanship method famed throughout the land. she never liked the training imposed by her grandfather even though she’d submit to the family heritage. it's an age to be empowered. might from a method capable of killing a warrior and its steed in one strike can't compare to the weight in her heart when she first killed. it reminded her of all the injured she wasn't capable of saving in her previous lifetime. and so, she hid as yoon rang. a gisaeng who dances but does no harm. yet, she willingly picked up swords again. tried in vain to deflect instead of cut fatally those who stand in the way of a (doomed) love affair. the grind of the changing world is relentless AND unfair. it took two of the strongest warriors in the land to exhaust the fight instinctively in her and she is no more.
this world, regardless of the strange form it takes, is a battlefield — that much the merchant's sole daughter by the name of song jain knows when she returned back to the land of the living. instead of going through the motions assigned to her station, she has decided to take the path of her own choosing. in jeolla, with reputation of being a "woman of steel," she built up her own peddlers' inn. entropy is the universal law, though, and the rebellion budding from systemic class oppression spilled over from her periphery. she cannot stand shutting out the ones in need, anymore. she claims she goes where money is to be had. in truth, it was forebodings of connection she inevitably made once more. opening her weary soul to the oft-cruel game of chance... a future freedom to be invigorated by the breeze blowing through her hair as the swing she's on is pushed by her beloved. she has decided that from now on, holding onto this precious life until the sown seeds of hope bloom it is.

SFD fics I want to write and/or read
• Boon-yi agrees to be Bang-won’s concubine to influence him politically, but falls in love with Queen Min instead
• Yeon-hee character study
• Boon-yi/Cheok Sa-gwang fluff
• Mu-hyul/Bang-won angst
• MCTNA crossover. I’m thinking MCTNA!Bang-won vs SFD!Sambong… I’m thinking Hui-jae as a ninja girl… I’m thinking Yeon/Gab-boon team up… etc. (There must be fics like this right? Please rec me!!)
• Sambong/Yeon-hee/Bang-ji reincarnation fic to crossover with Mr. Sunshine (currently scribbling on this 👀)

Short Ramblings on The Red Scrolls of Magic ;-)
Having finished more than 2/3rds of the book, I can't help but wonder whether Cassie Clare and Wesley Chu wrote Shinyun Jung with Cheok Sa-gwang in their mind.
If not, I would absolutely love to whom they based/inspired her character on, if she's not a 100% original creation. (And if she's the latter, I'm EVEN more awed and thankful🤩.)
Because honestly, Shinyun Jung is the the thing I find most intriguing in this book, surprisingly AND unsurprisingly, lol.
Tumblr media
This is how I imagined her when she tried out a peach hanbok before the Venice party.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her immaculate white robes and samgakdo swords, cutting through her foes effortlessly.
Tumblr media
Deadly, steely, expressionless Joseon Beauty.
.
Ok I'll stop now before everybody think I'm bonkers🤣🤣😅.
