Photos from my visit to Downtown Chicago this year.
For you animation, anime, and video game-based voice acting superfans, as I was born and raised in Chicago, it is also the birthplace of Jill Talley (Tom Kenny’s wife, the voice of Karen Plankton in SpongeBob SquarePants, Squidina Star in The Patrick Star Show, and Rita Loud in The Loud House), as well as Walt Disney as well. I know @greydelislegriffin and @jessicadicicco (2 of my favorite voice actresses absolutely love this city, aside from New York City, and it’s the 3rd most populous US city).

SO what is ur thoughts tm on the costumes? I think karen slaps severely but i am not sure I feel Plankton. I DO appreciate his long ass ponytails but the goggles are like. if you are gonna do plankton I do feel like an eyepatch would be better??? I Get The Idea but.
Also!! I saw yr tags - can you uh. elaborate bc a quick google didnt bring up anything conclusive re: ACDC lol
i think they're pretty okay - for the most part i don't really have very exciting opinions, i think they're just fine for bringing the show abroad, you know? i like how spongebob's costume looks like a mix of the original chicago costume and then the broadway + live + tour costume. i like overalls for sandy, it's got a cute little butchy vibe that pleases me. other than that karen's the only one that really excites me because she looks exactly the way i wished karen looked in all the american productions. plankton's.... i'm not sure if i'm really feeling it. like i think i get the thought process behind it, but i'm not sure if i actually think it fits him.
and regarding the acdc comment - angus young's signature costume in the band is sort of like... influenced by a schoolboy's uniform, and i see it referenced in cartoons sometimes which is how i personally recognized it lmao. it may not be intended to be a reference to the signature look, but the blazer, tie and shorts combined with the rocker boots made me think about the possibility
Tumblr media
it also comes in green lol

Sir/Maam/Poobah, I'm afraid we're going to have to ask you to pin down your favorite SpongeBob Musical songs in order from "Most favorite" to "Least favorite".
Thank you good sir/ma'am/fam! No worries, I'll get to it! Sorry it took so long to reply. Its hard to rank them since they're all so amazing. Y'all trying to make me pick between them???? And rank them??? It was difficult but it is now finally done!
Its already no competition. I'd rate I'm Not A Loser as my most favorite. It's been my favorite since the Chicago reel. I used to listen to this song on repeat as I walked to school. Not because I thought it was any kind of motivator for me but because hearing Squidward happy and singing and feeling himself so lively really scratched a brain itch. It hit different out of all the songs 😤 😤
1. I'm not a loser
2. When the going gets tough. Aka Plankton's rap song. Its white boy rap but the type that makes you go "Go white boy go!!!" I like it :)
3. Best Day Ever. IT LITERALLY WILL MAKE ME CRY! ITS SO CUTE😭
4. Bikini Bottom Day Reprised is such good vibes. Even more hype than the first one.
5. Spongebob theme just to add in here. GOOD VIBESSSS
makes you want to sing along toooooo!
6. Daddy Knows Best. This should have been higher on the list. But Bikini Bottom Day reprised version kinda knocked it down. The reprised version of any song just does that.
7. Just a single sponge gets me pumped. You can already see our Spongey boy singing it.
8. BFF is what you listen to after you get in a fight with your best friend and you cry while listening to it (I've said too much)
9. Bikini bottom boogie HYPEEEE HYPEEE I get what Pearl was crazy about!
10. Poor pirates!!!!!!! THEY REMEMBERED PQTCHYYYYYYYY YESSSSS
11. Super sea star savior. Didn't care for it much the first time around. I grew to liking it.
12. I like no control is a BANGER
13. Tomorrow is, is also a banger!
14. Hero is my middle name is good. Idk the fiest listen, I didn't like it much. I like it a lot more after listening to it for a few rimes.
15. Guess I miss you hurts. In a good way. PAIN
16. Chop to the top. Sadly I didn't care much for it. Even now. Ehh I don't like it much.
So here it is! Spongebob musical song rankings! Please don't kill me if I rated some of your favorites a little low. A lot of them I really like! They really gave it their all for this musical!

pretty sure the perfect version of the spongebob musical would be... the plot structure of chicago’s version from BFF onwards, along with chicago’s version of going gets tough (better choreo, better set, KAREN’S BEATBOXING) but we can still have broadway’s fast rap verse, broadway’s set for daddy knows best, (and for SB trying on pearl’s dress lmao) chicago’s set for everything else (the town ‘SQUARE’ in particular), chicago pearl’s “tears”, chicago’s version of the patbob resolution (“i’m sorry” “i forgive you!” it needed to be said out loud!), the tour/proshot’s addition of the town pledge at the end, broadway’s costumes for everyone except krabs and plankton, they should still have their pointy boots from the chicago version. the rube goldberg machine from chicago and broadway. broadway for all the lyric changes - except keep the hint of ‘best day ever’ out of ‘bikini bottom day’ - it lost its emotional impact when we were expecting it. put back in having squidward and plankton join krabs during ‘not a simple sponge’ as a Trio Of Negativity from broadway previews. you know what else - sandy’s ‘hero’ verse from broadway previews too! and i know he’s divisive but put back in patchy’s bits of audience interaction from chicago too. keep that line “let us now observe...a happy ending” from the narrator at the end.
(also i’m a chicago spongebob’s costume supremacy kind of person (i FIRMLY belive it read more clearly as spongebob silhouette-wise!) but i know that ethan slater was so cute that they felt they needed to turn him into a crush-worthy hipster instead of ‘chad the schoolboy’ so we could believe him better as the hero lmaoooo)

Filling out the audition application for the SpongeBob musical. “Why do you believe you deserve the role of Karen Plankton?” Um because I’ve had experience of being Sheldon J Plankton’s wife for 6 years now, both in the cartoon universe and 5 different musical universes, and if you hire me we can make this a 6th. I’ve memorized every single Nick Blaemire song because my hyperfocus on Chicago’s version of Plankton was at an all time high. I AM Plankton’s wife. Next question

Just saw a local production of sb tonight and my friends did amazing 🙌🏻 I knew the people playing spongebob, Patrick, squidward, plankton, pearl and (the voice of) Gary. I also knew a bunch of people in the audience surprisingly. Like I went with 4 of my friends and then 5 people I’m in Chicago with right now (6 including our choreographer), the stage manager who works at the theatre I’m doing Chicago with, and 2 people I did grease with. It was super fun though and I went to my friends house after and we all watched rocky horror picture show.

More Addams Family fun facts that may just be relevant to me: this time about the musical!
So first of all, for anyone who has seen SpongeBob The Musical- the guy who plays Plankton? Same dude who plays Wednesday's boyfriend Lucas in the Chicago version. Wesley Taylor is fucking phenomenal.
Second, there are two different songs that Morticia sings solo: the later one that I know best is a cheerful tune called "Just Around The Corner" about the fact that when things are changing too rapidly in her life, she takes comfort in the fact that she and everyone else could die at any moment.
The earlier version of her solo surprised me the other day when I was watching a bootleg of the Chicago version. It is not remotely like "Just Around The Corner" aside from maybe its fun little jazzy tune. The lyrics, on the other hand, are Morticia mourning the fact that she is slowly aging and believes she is losing her beauty, and will soon be second best to everyone and everything, discarded, unwanted. What did they call this song, you may ask?
"Second Banana"
Just, you know, totally the name of a song that someone would associate with The Addams Family. Second Banana. A song that out of context sounds like it could probably be in any other musical with an older female character. Just Second Banana.
Also, everyone is constantly arguing over whether or not this song is the best or worst in the musical, because apparently public reception for the musical was not that great. Personally I like "Just Around The Corner" better because why the hell would Morticia be upset about realizing she's a milf? Thats an upgrade!!!! If any one of you even say for a second that aging Morticia with crows feet when she smiles and wrinkles from where she furrows her brow would be less hot you are a LIAR and a FOOL!!!!!

Ship/friendship of choice, “Teach me how to [insert skill here]?”
(we’re playing a little fast and loose with script versions here since I’ve been using Broadway as the base but this requires a bit from the Chicago production so we’re just gonna vibe) Karen wasn’t expecting Plankton back for another 40 minutes. He’d only been gone for 20, and his plans usually took at least an hour to fail. For a moment, she forgot they ran a restaurant at all, the concept of a “customer” so completely foreign, that when she heard the front door swing open and footsteps just slightly heavier than her husband’s she didn’t know what to make of it. Of course, she did, eventually, remember they were running a business, and left the back room of the Chum Bucket to find Perch Perkins, of all people, standing in the middle of her restaurant. “If you’re looking to interview my husband about whatever felony he’s committed today, he isn’t back yet.” “You know, for as often as Plankton brags about how smart the two of you are, I would’ve thought you’d notice that I don’t have my camera crew.” Perch smirked smugly. Raising an eyebrow skeptically, Karen questioned “And I don’t suppose you’re here for a Chum Burger?” “Has anyone ever come in here for a Chum Burger?” he raised an eyebrow to mirror hers. With a fold of her arms over her chest, Karen gave the vague answer of “You’d be surprised.” After all, sometimes, Sheldon’s schemes worked. Or at least worked partway. And they’d have a few customers before getting foiled again. “As much as I’m enjoying this back and forth,” Perch smirked once again, but his demeanor changed, suddenly, more genuine, as he stated “I actually did come over here for a reason.” “And that was?” He sighed, fidgeting with the hem of his jacket, as he ventured “I’m sure you remember our volcanic panic.” Smiling a little more dreamily than Perch would’ve anticipated, Karen replied “How could I forget?” “And at the town meeting-” “If this is about Sheldon’s hypnotism scheme-” “-I was wondering if you could...hypnotism?” Karen’s eyes went wide, immediately feigning innocence “Who said anything about hypnotism?” “You did. Just now.” Pursing her lip in pretend thought, she paused, shaking her head “Sorry, you must’ve misheard me.” she lied, fairly easily. That was one benefit of having been married to Sheldon for 20 years. “What had you been asking?” Not wanting to beat around the bush any longer, perch simply blurted out “Teach me how to beat box!?” Had Karen been drinking anything, she would’ve choked on it. “Come again?” “When Plankton so thoroughly convinced us to leave Bikini Bottom, which he managed to do through song...you backed him up. With some very impressive beatboxing. I doubt he would’ve been able to freestyle like that without your help.” “And why do you want learn how to do it?” Karen seemed guarded, cautious.  Perch shrugged “I need to flesh out the ‘special skills’ area of my resume.” “And beatboxing is going to help you get news jobs?” With an agitated sigh, his eyes rolled as he pressed “Will you teach me or not?” “Alright, alright, weather boy, calm down.” Karen took a seat on one of the cold metal arrangements in the restaurant, and motioned for Perch to join. “Now, have you ever done any kind of vocal percussion before?” Perch’s eyebrows knit together “Vocal...? Percussion....? What does that have to beatboxing?” “Ho boy.”

Some doodles of humanized SBSP characters or SB musical redesigns I did while at family house... the only art supplies I have there are markers and coloured fineliners so the effect looks different than what I usually draw.
More content with them is coming soon so stay tuned...
Read more for my headcanons and trivia behind their designs!
Sheldon Plankton - slowly evolved from a mix of Chicago and Broadway appearances. His hair is dark green, the hairline is receding giving him an intelligent and academic appearance; he keeps whatever hair he has left in a ponytail, with two stubborn hairs always pointing up (similar to Hilda from Pokemon Black/White), and also sports short sideburns and a bushy unibrow. He wears an eyepatch on his right eye - I will elaborate on that later. As for the costume, I realized that cartoon!Plankton wears no clothes so I am free to make him wear whatever I like; he's very thin so he needs many layers to stay warm, especially in that metallic lab where he lives, and although he's human-sized now, they still don't make clothes his size. His corduroy trousers are a bit loose and are kept by suspenders. The turtleneck shrunk down in laundry and doesn't look that bad now. The jacket is the only piece of clothing that did fit from the beginning, so he's been wearing it non-stop for the past few decades, and it shows. Also comfy sports shoes to keep up with his scheming.
Eugene Krabs - I gave him the facial hair of Colonel Sanders (but red), which invokes both “fast food“ and “businessman”, and also a new haircut. Other than that he doesn't wear the boxing gloves all the time, but keeps them close in case Plankton needs to be punched out of Krusty Krab.
Karen - her human-looking body is actually a hologramic projection form her computer body, with her voice coming from the computer as well - they always stay close. To avoid spending an unreasonable amount of RAM on rendering, the more detailed parts of her skin are covered with accesories: goggles for the eyes and gloves for the hands. And her hair is styled in a bun for a serious professional look. Oh, and the screen is at the same height as Sheldon's head.
SpongeBob - first I imagined him as a thin boy, but now he's more square-shaped (he... obviously should have been like that from the beginning), with curly blonde hair like the boy from Reksio cartoon, and a square jawline to make him look at least slightly adult. He wears the sweater and shirt from Chicago version paired with longer pants from the Broadway version.
Plankrab - boy oh boy this was fun! Obviously he doesn't appear in the musical, debuting in an episode released years after the musical's premiere, so I could design the human version from scratch. While borrowing elements from both human!Plankton and human!Krabs, he's also generally more conventionally attractive, being tall, broad-shouldered, with a prominent chin. The idea was to make him look like a himbo, while he's certainly not behaving like one - just his ordinary two-facedness. Hair color is dark reddish-brown, he has Plankton's ponytail (but shorter and bushier) and Krabs's fringe and eyebrows, and also bushy sideburns (kinda like Mister Gibbs from PotC, just without the beard part). He's got a glass eye, but I will elaborate on that later. And while in the cartoon Plankrab dresses just like Krabs, my humanization combines that with clothes stolen from Plankton too, since old man is fully dressed in this version (well... that was before Plankrab).
And in case you want to borrow some headcanons, sure, go ahead, let's make designing humanizations a common activity!
