Music inspires a ton of fan fiction by creating another element of a story’s setting that otherwise can’t be written. MMM is a bimonthly opportunity for creators to share songs for recently published fics or for upcoming fics (a teaser, if you will) to get readers excited about reading your newest adventures!
🎵 When submitting your song(s), PLEASE include the following:
Title and Artist of the song
Title of your WIP; if it’s part of a series, include things like series title, part/chapter number and/or title
Choices Book/Universe (TRR, OPH, PM, TNA, etc)
Pairings (if there is one)

Inspiration and Reading Asks:
1. How long ago did you start reading fanfiction? Writing fanfiction?
It looks like I started writing in 2017. I've been reflecting recently on how there are so many regularly active writers now compared to in 2017-2018. It was the tail-end of some of my fave writer's activity within fandom. Utsus was posting less and less. The Tumblr NaruHina fandom seemed to disappear, a whole community of writers left for other things (matchaball, nekomamoru, magmawrites, cherryjutsu, spyder-m, tenney-shoes, eliphya, among others). 2018 was a very quiet year, but! I avidly read katarinahime and bunnyhoodlum's works! In 2019, quirrrky restarted things with NaruHina Week!
2. How do you spend your time when it comes to fanfiction? Are you primarily a fic reader, writer, or a perfect 50/50 split of both?
Recently I’m primarily a reader!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because there's so many writers now!!!!!!!!
3. Are there any fics that inspired you to write what you do?
Yeah, let’s list them. “A Special Friend” by agitosgirl inspired “Nightdreams. “Medicine” by @grimmjowkurosakidrake inspired “White Lilies. “Torch Song” by @mmmbuttery inspired “About You.” The language in “Unless the World Were to End” by @bunny-hoodlum inspired the language in “That was the plan.” “In Between Drinks” by @peppercornpress inspired “In Between Drinks NH.”
4. Link your three favorite fics right now.
“Operation: Bring Home Naruto” by Dragonwannabe - Rated T, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Complete. Hinata's been assigned the mission of getting Naruto back home safely after his last dangerous assignment. But can she handle the undercover identity as his girlfriend that she’d been given without revealing her true feelings for him?
“The Mission” by Lunawraythe - Rated M, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Ongoing. It wasn't that Hinata never expected to work with Naruto, just never on a mission quite like this.
“The Loving Type” by @peppercornpresses - Rated M, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Ongoing. A few years have passed since the Fourth Shinobi War, in which...Rookie Nine steadily advances in rank. Naruto gets engaged. Hinata leaves Konoha. And Kakashi schemes for days.
5. What are your fanfic pet peeves? Do they have a huge effect on whether or not you decide to read something?
ahhh. I do have quite a few pet peeves. If the fic is Canon-Compliant or Canon-Divergent, I expect Naruto and Hinata to behave like Japanese people. Say what you want, but the Naruto Universe is definitely Japanese in my book. So that means no shoes in the house. Nothing rattles me more than reading Hinata taking her sandals off before climbing into bed. Like, what? she was wearing her outdoor shoes indoors this whole time??
mmm... another pet peeve is when the writer describes Hinata in a kimono, but it sounds like an American Halloween costume, like the slutty version, instead of an actual kimono.
mmm... and the other big pet peeve I have is when it’s Hinata’s first time eating ramen because Naruto is showing her the wonders of ramen. lol. why. how. in what world would a Japanese person make it to their teenage years without ever eating ramen.
I have a bunch of other little pet peeves regarding Japanese culture in fanfics. But in general, it doesn’t stop me from reading the fic if I'm already in the middle of it. I’ll continue reading it and will probably recommend it to other people anyway. If I can tell based on the summary, then it's not for me, and I don't read it. If this makes anyone feel nervous about writing fanfiction, that's not my intention! I would also be happy to be a sensitivity reader if necessary.
6. How do you find new fic to read? Where do you primarily read fanfiction?
I primarily read fanfics on AO3 and ffnet. I find new ones by constantly checking the Hyuuga Hinata/Uzumaki Naruto tag on AO3 or looking into a writer’s favorites list on ffnet.
7. Do you prefer to read short fics or long fics?
Short fics.
8. How often do you reblog/comment on fics that you like?
I reblog pretty often. I don't comment as often as I used to😕 I used to comment on every fic I liked.
9. Tag 3 fic writers you think are underrated/unknown in the fandom/fanfiction community.
Uhh?? Idk. I think recently the writing group here is pretty tight, everyone seems to know everyone.
10. What’s your favorite fandom, pairing, or character to read fic for?
Naruto fandom and NaruHina.
Fanfiction Writing Asks:
11. How do you come up with your fic titles?
I usually take it from words used in the story or from the prompt.
12. Tell the author your favorite fic title of theirs (not the fic, strictly title). Author: what’s your favorite title you’ve come up with and why?
I think...maybe "Tell Me of Forevers" or "Nightdreams." I like those because they aren't taken word-for-word directly from the story, but touch on a theme in the story.
13. Do you outline your fics? How much of a headache would someone get if they just looked at an outline of yours without reading the fic?
Yes, I outline. They wouldn't get a headache, I think. It's usually just a summary.
14. Do you have a personal word minimum that you hold yourself too? Why or why not?
Nope. I didn't know people do that.
15. Tell the author your favorite fic of theirs. What’s your (the author’s) favorite fic you’ve written?
My favorite fic continues to be "It's No Secret."
16. Do you research for your fics? If so, how deep of a rabbit hole have you gone down by accident when researching?
Yes, I do. I've done historical and folktale research for "Little Samurai." I did area/location research for "Last Chance." I did historical research for "About You." I did fairy tale research for "Catskin." I did a ton of astronomy research for "The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl." And I did lighting research for "Inspo." I go pretty deep.
17. How obsessively do you sit and stare at your fic after you’ve just posted and wait for feedback?
I don't. I usually have something else I need to do or I go to bed.
18. Do you have a WIP that you keep telling yourself you’ll eventually get back to, but deep down you know that’s probably a lie?
I actually think I can finish all of mine if I just try.
19. Do you edit your fics after you write them, or do you prefer to just hit post and run (because it’s someone else’s problem now)?
I always edit before posting to AO3. Anything I post directly on Tumblr might not be edited.
20. What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?
Posting!
21. What’s your least favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?
Starting a new chapter.
22. Do you take fic requests? If so, for what characters and why?
On occasion. If someone sends me a request, I'll think about writing it. Sometimes I do write and post it, sometimes I leave them in my drafts for a better day.
23. What’s your absolute favorite trope to write?
From what I already have posted, probably friends-to-lovers, secret relationship/forbidden love, or high school au. I don't think I have an intentional favorite.
24. What’s a trope that you’d like to never hear about as long as you live, let alone write?
Public humiliation / public degradation.
25. Do you listen to music as you write? If possible, link your writing playlist.
No, not usually.
26. What’s your biggest distraction when writing?
Tumblr feed, all the pictures to scroll through mindlessly.
27. Do you like to give your readers some warning of what might be coming or just slap them in the face with content at random?
lol, whatever is fine.
28. How do you deal with writing pressure (ie: pressure to update, negative comments, deadlines, etc)?
Well, pressure to update is not a big deal to me. I do this for fun, so I don't think I unnecessarily pressure myself too much. With negative comments, I don't get too many of those, and I think I do my best to avoid situations where I might get negative feedback.
29. Have you ever written for an exchange or event of some kind? Which one(s)? Did you enjoy it?
Yeah, I like the events. My favorite was NH2020, the year-long one last year. I also enjoyed the Secret Santa last year since @badluckbrebis was my giftee.
30. Post a snippet from your current WIP without context - no more than 300 words.

31. Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones?
Naruto Uzumaki, always.
32. Copy and paste your top three favorite lines/jokes/sentences you’ve ever written. What fics do they come from?
Top 3 faves in order:
That was the plan: "She shifts in his arms, and cloth and cleavage come pillowing up to his face, and he’s certain that she’s scooped from the same puffy stuff his adolescent daydreams were made of."
Tell Me of Forevers: "What he wouldn’t do to inspire every blush, every smile of hers for an eternity when such moments already only speak “forever” to him."
White Lilies: "Whether at his feet, in his eyes, ears, mind, if not reaching his heart, she never landed anywhere. (It’s okay.)"
I consider "White Lilies" to have my technically best writing, so it was kind of hard to choose just one line from that fic! But I decided that one's my favorite line from the whole story.
33. What do you like writing better: one shots or multi-chapter stuff?
One-shots.
34. How much of yourself and your life experiences do you put into your writing? What do you think your readers’ image of you is?
A lot of my life experiences are in my writing. Hmm, I think readers probably think I'm...hmm...either empathetic or really perverted?
35. How much has writing fic changed your life?
I spend a lot less time on real-life social media than before.
36. Are there any fics or fandoms you’re embarrassed to have written or been part of?
I'm kind of embarrassed of "Honeymoon at the Hot Springs" lol. It's fine.
37. Give an update on your current WIP - if you don’t have one, give a sneak peek to a title or idea that you have and would like to write.
My current WIP is that A/B/O fic I started for February Smut Month Prompts: Sweet as Candy or Love Bites. I'm going to title it "Sweet As," and it'll be about how Naruto and Hinata become Alpha/Omega mates. It's really kinky, really smutty, and totally what I would want to read.
38. What does your writing process look like? How chaotic is it on a scale of 1 (very tame) to 10 (you can’t handle this kind of chaos)?
uhh???? a 1?? I've never once thought of my writing process as chaotic. Ahh, then I think of bunnyhoodlum's multiple drafts for the same chapter, and I realize that there exist types of writing processes that I would not be able to handle...
39. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?
My smut.
40. How did you come up with the idea for [x fic]?
41. What’s your most popular fic (with the most notes on tumblr, most hits/kudos on ao3)?
Idk about Tumblr,,, maybe White Lilies got the most attention here. My most popular fic is Nightdreams on AO3.
42. Asker: pick three of the author’s works. Author: rank them 1 (the best) - 3 (the worst) based on whatever criteria you want - this could be something totally random that isn’t quality related (like simply ranking fics based on how many trains appear in them) - have fun!
43. Talk about a positive experience with fanfiction or the fanfiction community that you will always remember.
I will always remember how people congratulated me for finishing White Lilies😭 Also, when peppercornpresses made that FIRST art of my story, I just, I just stared at it all day.

Story You Were Nervous to Post: Promises (SLBP Kansuke). This story was the very first fanfic I had ever written IN MY LIFE, let alone the first one I ever posted. It featured supernatural elements, major character death AND no smut (so, you know, anathema to fanfiction LOL). Hence, to all the good folks who actually read that fic and encouraged me: a giant THANK YOU! I love you all 💕😆
How You Choose Your Titles: I actually begin the process of writing my fics by choosing the title. It sets the tone for the piece, and you’ll typically find the title tucked somewhere within the text of the story 😉With respect to the ‘how’ part, I just sit there, sense the mood...and it comes to me (mind-altering substances are not involved, istg LOL)

Do You Accept Prompts? I do! But I typically only complete the ones I feel comfortable writing or am inspired to write. I also tend to generate ideas on my own, so I balance those with the prompts I receive in my Ask box. Furthermore, it can sometimes take me a while to finish fics. So thank you in advance, lovely readers and requesters, for understanding 💕💕
Upcoming Story You Are Most Excited to Write/ Complete: Finishing up my Park Jinyoung story! I’ve been working on this bad boy for over a month now, and it’s probably the most complicated fic I’ve written yet. I am also experimenting with a new style in terms of story structure, so we’ll see how that goes!
ALSO: the big surprise that's coming in February!!!
What do you use to edit?: I pay for Bear Pro. Because of pretty themes. And Cloud syncing. And the Bear icon. Am also not getting paid to say this LOL.
I also use Apple’s built-in dictionary to look up super common words that I use all the time, because there’s no better way to make you suddenly feel like you don’t understand a language you’ve spoken your entire life than writing fanfiction 🤪
Writing setup: I have a dedicated writing space in my home, but the essentials really are: headphones, the perfect playlist (Spotify baby - once again, not an advert), my laptop and privacy. I absolutely cannot write without the right music, and any extraneous noise throws off my concentration. Also, a giant tumbler of green or oolong tea nearby.
Do you use a beta reader? My husband. He has read every single fic I’ve ever written. He has no choice. I also like to stare at him for every minuscule reaction while he reads...not intense at all 🤣
Where do you get your writing inspo? I daydream A LOT 🤣 I tend to get my ideas while doing random things like showering, walking on the street, doing chores or just as I’m falling asleep. I also find inspiration in films with particularly beautiful cinematography and listening to soundtracks.
Can we get a quote from an upcoming WIP?

Yo!
Hello friends! So I've made an intro for this blog when I started it months ago, but goofy me never tagged it with the proper channels so Imma try this again!!!!!
I’m Annastasia! It’s very nice to meet you. I’m a 26-year-old mixed race black woman, proudly disabled with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (type 2), and hailing from the ice-y state of Minnesota. I’m new to writeblr, but I’ve been on Tumblr for a little over ten years now with my main blog, @whileyoureinschoolidothisallday. I’m a practicing witch, and I like anime, video games, music, makeup, and fashion. Feel free to message me about any of those topics! =D
My favorite things to write are poetry, creative non-fiction, and genre-fiction, specifically YA and Paranormal. I got my start writing in fandom with fanfiction and fan theories, so I still have a soft-spot for meta and media analysis. Most of my non-fandom writing deals with themes relating to the othered identity, especially in regards to disability, gender, and race. In my experience, minorities are often refused the right to their negative emotions. Instead our lives are often spent as performances, making sure the people we live around are comfortable in our presence. My work serves as an outlet for these denied emotions. It’s a lot of raw anger, pain, honesty, and unapologetic self-love. Embracing darkness and the negative stereotypes associated with my communities gives me empowerment. I love every second of being an angry black woman and a crippled monster, and I’ll make sure to let you know it!
I have a few WIPs in progress that I can’t wait to show y’all! But if you absolutely can’t wait for some writing, I’ve already posted all my poetry (so far ;)) that you can check out over in my poetry tag and on my ao3!
I’m really hoping to make some more friends over here! Tumblr in general makes it a little harder to connect with people than it is on Writer Twitter, but this place has always felt like more of a home for me and my work. And hey, if you’re on Twitter too, we can be friends both places!!!!

Cynical Chaos// My main project and dearest to my heart! I’ve been writing this bitch of a novel since I was fifteen, and it’s my life’s goal to get it published and eagerly devoured someday (hopefully before I’m 30????????). There’s been a lot of setbacks, but I believe in it more than anything. You can expect most of my posts to be about this precious monster of mine, and every Sunday I post an update via #WIPProgressSunday ! (or at least I do my best ^^;)
After saving the world from an alien race dubbed Chaos Powers, a paranoid culture and worldwide hero worship allowed government organization, Panacea, to run the world without opposition. Ariana Salem and her friends lived their lives pretending to be normal, knowing that if anyone ever discovered their secret—that the Chaos Powers never died, and instead were using them as human hosts—Panacea would never let them live. It was only a matter of time before someone blew their cover, and when one of their own was captured, Ariana declared war.
A year later, the battle has no end in sight. When one of Panacea’s experiments miraculously escapes, Ariana faces a choice: Help the girl and continue the battle, despite the debilitating trauma it causes her, or admit defeat before she loses herself next.

Root-Bound// SUPER early stages of a short story collection I wanna write. Details very subject to change lol. I got the idea for it after having a really rough time of it and writing a journal entry where I likened the current life of me and my friends to being born in a dark forest and spending your whole life trying to reach the light before the shadows kill you. It stuck with me, and I’ve been playing with the idea ever since. I love when short story collections take place in the same space, and I think this particular world would hold a lot of potential to explore different perspectives and voices.
The Forest is home to the mass majority of the human race. A seemingly endless stretch of woods, the deeper into the Forest you live, the less sunlight there is. They plan to make the trek on Gavin’s 18th birthday, but the shadows of the Forest already have him in their sights. Ivy’s wheelchair makes traveling near impossible by herself, but if she has any hope of survival, she may have to face the journey alone.

5) If you had to choose a favourite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why?
oooo i mean i only have a couple multi chaps but i think altea rising is my fave. i have a real soft spot for it cuz it’s my first fic, but also just the world-building in it is so much fun. i also just really love the Team Dynamic in it and writing all the ensemble scenes!!
8) Where do you take your inspiration from?
from the Idea Store. jk i...i don’t really know?? i tend to get inspiration kinda randomly? usually stuff will just like occur to me when i’m on a walk or at work or smth and it just snowballs from there. but i also draw a lot of inspo from media i like... when i sit down to write something i usually have kind of a concept of what vibe i’m going for based on other things i like. i’m not sure how to explain it except it’s sorta like “ok i want it to kinda have the same mood as this tv show and that book, also i want it to evoke the same emotion as this song” sdlkfd so it’s kind of a huge mix of things.
12) Who is your favourite character to write for? Why?
oof it’s a tough choice but i think it’s keith?? i feel like i often default to writing in his pov. i just find something very comforting in writing about him? i relate to all the characters in some way but i think it’s just smth about keith being kinda quiet/introspective that i relate to, and he’s also just a v dynamic character where he can be super badass but other times Soft and also really awkward/funny and it’s fun to explore all those different sides of him.
13) Who is your least favourite character to write for? Why?
ha i don’t know.... probably....zarkon? i’ve had to write in his pov a few times in red skies and every time i’m like “how do i do this.” i feel like i make him act like more of a “bwahaha” sinister kinda villain than he is in canon but i mean he’s p boring in canon anyway so
18) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?
i don’t have any like truly abandoned wips although i do have a horse riding au that i haven’t worked on in like five months and i feel terrible about it. but i just have so many other things on my plate rn i haven’t been able to give it attention. that and i ran into the issue of not knowing anything about horses lmao although i’m still trying to do research for it because i DO really want to finish it, i just haven’t had the time/energy.
i also have some ideas on the backburner that i’ll probably never get around to actually writing if that counts haha. but yeah with those i feel like they’re just way too complicated and/or i can’t figure out a way to make them work so....maybe i’ll still write those someday but it’d be a While from now.
23) Do you prefer listening to music when you’re writing or do you need silence?
kinda depends on my mood but generally i prefer to write in silence. sometimes music is good background noise and sometimes i just get way too distracted by the lyrics and/or singing along and my attention span is terrible lol so usually it’s easier for me to concentrate if i’m not listening to anything.
48) What’s your favourite trope to write?

49) Can you remember the first fic you read? What was it about?
oh man.....ok i gotta admit i like never read fic before voltron lol, i think maybe i read like a couple drabbles here and there when i was in the httyd fandom but not v much and i don’t really remember them lol. anyway the first voltron fic i remember reading was like WAAYyy back at the beginning of the fandom and it was some cute lil klance fic that i barely remember anything about... except i remember there being some scene where they went to some kinda festival thing on an alien planet and keith & lance had some kinda competition about who was better at flirting and keith was like actually really good at it and flirting w all these aliens and lance was like WHAT. also they kissed on a beach at the end??? i can’t remember what it was called and i think it might’ve gotten deleted rip. but it was real cute.

1. When/what age did you start writing? I remember writing poems for my school crushes when I was about 8 years old, but my first fanfiction was written when I was 12.
2. What inspired you to start? Well, I’ve said a couple of times that I’m a HUGE Harry Potter fan, by the I finished book 5 when I was 11/12 and was introduced to the fanfiction world, so I started my own story, which I have been improving for the last 13 years :X
3. Where and when does inspiration usually strike you? Anytime and anywhere, mainly when I’m listening to new songs that may fit an OTP or a WIP, most of the times I scribble some notes on a notebook, or write it on my phone’s notes.
4. Where and when do you usually to write? Morning? Late at night? On the bus? In bed? Most of the time it is late night with my laptop on my lap, but sometimes the inspo hits me so hard that I write on my phone on my way to work or home.
5. Do you listen to music while writing? If so what genre/playlist? I HAVE to, music is my main source of inspiration, the genre depends what I’m writing and for which OTPs, if I’m writing a Marauder’s era fanfiction and it’ll be a fun chapter I like to listen to Blink 182, for my TRR AU which is very angst I’m basing it on Adele songs I have an specific playlist I created on spotify with the songs in the order of the chapters.
As I said in another post, for smut I love to hear The Weeknd’s sexy voice.
6. Which category do you like best? Angst? Fluff? NSFW? Other? God I love all of them, but I have a thing for angst since I love so much for my readers to feel the same emotions as the characters!
7. Which category do you find most challenging to write? Fluff, actually, because I’m always afraid to sound too cheesy or cliche.
8. If you had to pick your favourite Choices book, which one would it be and why? Well, TRR is the only book I play regularly, my currency makes the diamonds too expensive, so I’m taking one book at a time, I really want to start Perfect Match, though!
9. If your Choices LIs were real, which one (and only one!) would you personally want to be with? Comparing all TRR LIs, I think my babe Drake would be the winner, he reminds me a lot of my boyfriend, so you can say I have a type! Hahahaha
10. Do you share any physical characteristics with your Choices MCs? Pics/selfies optional :) My hair looks a little like my TRR MC, but my eyes are green and hers are blue!
11. Which MC do you share the most personality traits with? I played a little The Freshman, and probably would be head over heels for a guy like Chris Powell, but I’m more like my TRR MC, who loves and defends her friends and it’s not afraid to follow her heart.
12. Which Choices character do you feel you have the best grasp of in terms of personality? I think Drake, because he has so many layers and I love to write characters like this.
13. What’s your favourite choices pairing to write for? Drake x MC without a doubt
14. What is a pairing/s you hope to start writing for? I’m very interested in Liam x Olivia and the others (still) secret LIs for Hana and Maxwell on my Once Upon a Disaster series.
15. What do you hope to improve in your writing? I need to beat anxiety and start to proof-read what I post, since I’m not an English native speaker, there are always some typos, or wrong prepositions... And I also need to improve my flow!
16. Any pet peeves related to writing? I think I’ve just answered this above hahaha.
17. Are you inspired by any IRL experiences when you write? Care to share? Only the feelings, like I remembered some time that I was so happy, or so sad, and try to channel it to write.
18. Is there any particular piece of work you consider to be your ultimate writing goal? Can I say Harry Potter? I’m all about creating a new world, but if I can’t, Princess Diaries is another option.
19. Did/do you write for any other fandoms? If so which ones? Once again... Harry Potter, I’ve been writing and rewriting HP fics for the past 12 years, I also have a one-shot for Divergent series.
20. In your spare time (when you’re not writing) what other hobbies do you pursue? I love watching series, stupid videos on YouTube and reading. I also train aerial silks and aerial hoop (pic below).
