Thor: Love and Thunder Spoiler Review
Tumblr media
Ik it’s been two days since I saw the movie. I’ve been too busy to post sryyyyy.
MAJOR SPOILERS BEYOND CUT YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
ok so overall idk it wasn't bad but also wasn't good? I think that was the general consensus of the ppl I watched it with
Things I liked
I'm gonna get to the main cast but MATT DAMON SIR I LOVE YOU. I'm so used to watching the guy kick ass so watching that ridiculous play with him as Loki >>>>>. I got the fact that he cameos spoiled but not like this lmfao 💀
ALSO I LOVED THE TWO GOATS LMAO
Thor - ok appearance-wise I was honestly lmao at the beginning during the transition from that recluse look to what essentially looked like a teen gang leader (BUT ALSO LEATHER JACKET MY BELOVED)
And I mean he was funny
Christian Bale as Gorr damn
KORGGGG I LOVED HIM SO MUCH. My heart almost stopped when the lightning bolt went through him but the scene at the end when he makes a baby with Dwayne <333
also the allusion to Dwayne “The Rock” was hilarious
Jane - I LOVE HER but I wish they slowed down a bit with her character arch. I loved when she introduced herself as Dr. Jane Foster or Mighty Thor though.
AND INTRODUCING MIGHTY THOR J TO KILL HER WTF MARVEL
Valkyrie was queen as always and that moment when she kissed the hand of the girl at Omnipotence <3333
And on that note them showing trans rep with Axel was rly nice
I LOVED THAT SCENE WHERE THOR GAVE HIS POWERS TO ALL THE KIDS AND IT MADE THE LIGHTNING TREE THING OMG it was beautiful
Ok but when they showed that domestic scene with Thor and Gorr’s daughter my first thought was Uncle Loki :’) which I immediately shared with ms. @janetsnakehole02 effectively bringing us both to near tears
HERCULESSSSSSSSS I’M SO HAPPY OMG HE’S IN THE MCU AND HE’S BRETT GOLDSTEIN AKDJHDKFKAUFJHLAU
one thing I suspect though is now that they’ve brought the necrosword and also the concept of celestials and symbiotes into the MCU they’ll also introduce Knull as the next Thanos-level villain in the villain and that’s exciting. I mean, look at him:
Tumblr media
Things I disliked
it felt like there were many plot holes lmao like why was Jane able to destroy the necrosword?? why couldn't Thor ask Eternity for Jane back??
The trailers were misleading, I expected more Guardians of the Galaxy tbh
I think there was a lot left out on Thor plot-wise. There was a lot of potential to explore his emotions with the loss of his family but there was just so much of Jane x Thor I think they should’ve toned down the ship and brought up the family feelings
I feel like Gorr was underdeveloped. We saw him getting his motivation but really nothing else about him. What was his civilization like? Were the gods ever good to his people??
It also felt like there was less plot more jokes which was kind of underwhelming
I think Valkyrie was underutilized
I wish they showed some of Thor’s family in Valhalla though seeing Heimdall was nice
ALSO WHY THE HELL DID ZEUS HAVE AN ITALIAN ACCENT??? it was weird tbh
I also noticed a BUNCH of parallels to Loki and Thor in dark world that they recreated with Jane and Thor and tbh why???? It just didn’t feel as original after that
Idk just overall something was missing
Rating: 4/10 - I might rewatch it for a few scenes but I don’t really care enough to rewatch the whole movie. I’m kind of disappointed bc even though I had low expectations for this movie something about it being a Thor movie and the fact that I just generally like Thor movies made it even more disappointing when I didn’t love it.

Ok so I have another baby on of David and Angel and I swear this is the last one for me
Ok so when Angel and David found out that they were having a kid I wonder how would Asher and Milo react when David and Angel tell them the news that they are having a kid or how would the rest of the pack react
Thank you :']
Pack Reactions to David and Angel having a baby
Awwww dude this is so fucking cute! Send me as many of these as you want I love writing them.
I'm gonna write this in a headcannon style so if you want me to make a fic of it lemme know. I hope you like it!
༄༄༄༄༄༄༄༄༄
Asher🌙
•He literally cried
•And it's not even his baby
•He's instantly asking David what he needs help with
•Whether it's making the baby room or baby proofing the room
•Babe literally has to stop him from going on any tangents
•But if David is feeling scared or anxious about being a dad Asher will reassure him in anything he needs
•I like the Asher is a really good artist hc so I believe that he'll make a lot of art for the two
•He also makes art for when the baby arrives
•He has claimed himself as the cool aunt
•He's the baby's godfather and you CANNOT tell me otherwise
•If David isn't there to help Angel, Asher will do it
•He makes a bet with Babe and Milo about the gender of the baby
Milo🐶
•The minute this man he screamed from joy
•He so fucking happy that he's getting a little wolf nephew/niece
•He, David, and Angel are the ones who design the room
•He and Marie buy so many baby products
•He gifts them to David at random times
•during pack meets or meet ups
•Milo has a baby product
•In my head I think Milo and Sweetheart had a kid first
•So when David and Angel announce that they're having a baby, Milo instantly wants his and David's kid to be friends
•He definitely teacher David the ways of being a father
•He's also way to happy for it not to be his own baby
•Him and Asher fight over who would the cool uncle be
Darlin'
•His honestly shocked that David and Angel are having a kid
•Not because they don't think he can't handle having a kid
•But bc David just doesn't seem like someone who would have a baby
•But is so supportive
•They and Sam constantly come over to check up on Angel whenever David is busy
•Will bully David into letting them take Angel out
•If David says that they can watch the baby they are so fucking scared they'll fuck up
•Helps build and put together any baby things Milo gave David
•Teases David about begin a dad
•Will and is going to teach that child how to fight
•Neither Milo or Asher are the cool uncles when it comes to Darlin'
•Also reassures David that he's gonna be a good dad
•Also reassures Angel if they feel like they're gonna be bad parents
•Darlin' and Sam also buy baby products for Davey and Angel (more of Darlin' buys it and Sam says it him cause they're to embarrassed to)
The rest of the pack🐺
•They are all very excited Angel and David are having a kid
•They all celebrate in such a huge way
•Probably half of Daliha can hear them
•They will baby the absolute shit out of Angel
•Half the pack takes care of Angel
•The other half bother David
•Arden and Amanda talk with Angel about baby names
•Christan and Kelsey talk to David about the same thing
•They all agree to name the baby Gabe if it's a boy
•Will and is going to act a lot more different when they hear the news about their alpha having a kid
•They all try so hard to be more professional
•They try and make David relax
•If they see David being anxious Asher is gonna call a break and everyone helps David
•The pack was put together before
•Its even more put together now
•They're just really excited for this baby

Royal Wedding on 22 January 1937 at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Count Luitpold of Castell-Castell (32) and Princess Alexandrine-Louise of Denmark (22).
The bridegroom was the son of Count Otto Friedrich of Castell-Castell and his wife, Princess Amélie of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freundenberg.
Tumblr media
The bride was the youngest daughter of Prince Harald of Denmark and his wife, Princess Helena Adelaide of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg.
The couple met for the first time in Berlin during the 1936 Summer Olympics. Following their first meeting, Luitpold and Alexandrine-Louise spent nearly every day together. Before her departure from Berlin, Luitpold proposed marriage and Alexandrine-Louise accepted. At the time of their engagement announcement, Luitpold was a law student residing in Munich.

Footage of the wedding on nitrate film is preserved by the Danish Film Institute in their bunker archive for nitrate film at Store Dyrehave in Hillerød. According to the film archivist Karin Bonde Johansen regarding the scenes captured by the film, "the atmosphere looks cheerful and wild looking, but unfortunately there is no audio to the footage."

Michi and Benno in episode 7
The other day I was watching one of those Michi x Benno edits on YouTube (one of them has over a 100k views which is quite impressive considering the size of the fandom, I think. If the show ever blows up it’s probably because of these two) and as I was scrolling through the comment section with people expressing how much they loved the kiss scene in episode 7, I had a thought regarding it.
So, the scene in general is pretty short and it cuts away before they start undressing etc. and later they are only shown the morning after. If we compare this to Christiane and Benno, the scene with the boys was kept very innocent and more implicit, while there were three (?) sex scenes between Benno and Christiane. Generally she show didn’t shy away from scenes that were more explicit, like the one with Benno at Frank’s party, so the reason why they didn’t show more of Michi and Benno was probably not that they wanted to avoid this type of content.
Now, let me explain where I’m trying to get with this: I might be overinterpreting it, maybe they just kept the scene short because they didn’t care about the storyline that much, which is okay, I mean, it obviously wasn’t supposed to be the focus of the series. However, I think it makes a lot of sense that them having sex was only implied and not shown, because it fits well together with the way their relationship was portrayed in the entirety of the series.
Other than Benno and Christiane, or even Christiane and Axel, Michi and Benno’s relationship is always kind of kept in the dark. Often times even for the viewer, but more than that for the characters themselves. Neither Michi nor Benno ever mention anything regarding it, at least until the day after they slept with each other. But before that, there was really never a conversation. And even what was shown in terms of how they felt towards each other was blurry when it came to Benno’s feelings, and probably it was difficult for him to grasp Michi’s feelings, too. So, not only was it kind of a “hidden layer” to their friendship that still existed as such, but it probably also went by unnoticed by their friends or they at least never mentioned it either. Even Christiane, who most likely noticed it, never asked Benno about it or anything. Whenever Michi and Benno seriously get close (the “you’re so beautiful scene” not counting as such, because nobody but Michi took it seriously as far as we canonically know, and even he laughed it off), like at the Bowie concert, it’s at a hidden place where it’s only them, which makes sense, of course. Another example would be the ice skating scene in the privacy of Axel’s flat, or the fact that they seem to hang out mostly at the Bahnhof Zoo toilets (and I’m not even going into detail about the promo pic here). This is a strong contrast to Christiane and Benno’s actual relationship that even Stottermax knows about for some reason, and also to Axel’s crush on Christiane, who waits for her outside her place, wants to invite her to the concert, talks to her at the club and at his place while the others are in the next room.
In conclusion, what went on between Benno and Michi was always hidden, took place in privacy, was a bit left the dark and mostly implied. And if this is what the writers were going for with the way they wanted to get this relationship across, it would make sense to only imply the scene in episode 7 as well - as a stylistic device, because if it’s not shown it goes so well together with the general content of their storyline and its vibe.

[18+ advised ] This is going to be long af. I’m going to do my best to put everything - all my writing on this blog, in one goddamn place, but I make no promises, so forgive me in advance. Below the cut is everything I’ve written and posted, for every single wrestler I’ve written for so far.  If its’ not linked, then I haven’t posted it yet or it’s a placeholder. If it’s bolded/has an m out beside it, it is most definitely mature and only meant for a mature (18+) audience. If there’s an asterisk (*) out beside the title, it belongs to or is part of something else that I have on the blog.
If you want to be on the taglist for my writing, you can find that [here]. If you want to know what I write / how often I write and stuff like that, my faq/about post is [here]

Amazon, Constantin Reboot German '80s Classic 'Bahnhof Zoo' (THR)
The teen drug drama, set in David Bowie's West Berlin, screened for buyers at MIPCOM 2020.
Sex, drugs, and rock and roll, it seems, never go out of style.
We Children from Bahnhof Zoo, one of the hottest new television series being screened for buyers at this year's MIPCOM international television market, looks back on the hedonist world of West Berlin in the late 1970s and early '80s. It's a world, says series producer Sophie von Uslar (NSU: German History X), that even before coronavirus changed everything, is almost unimaginable for today's younger generation.
"The late '70s were a wild time of freedom that in the current climate, where young people are constantly striving for political correctness, for self-optimization, and seem constantly under observation via Instagram and social media, must seem like another world," she says.
The high-end series is inspired by the 1978 non-fiction book of the same name about teenage drug users in Berlin. We Children from Bahnhof Zoo was previously adapted by Uli Edel as the shocking 1981 film Christiane F. Edel's feature was famed for using street kids to play the main characters and its near-documentary approach.
Annette Hess, head writer and creative producer on the We Children from Bahnhof Zoo series, took a different tack. Returning to the original book, she expanded the world of these teenage addicts, to tell a broader, and deeper, coming-of-age story.
"The film focuses on Christiane's story, but we wanted to tell a story of this group of six kids, who are all lost in different ways, but who all find each other, and in the group they feel free and strong," says Von Uslar. "The drugs accelerate everything, make it all more intense."
The series, she says, also avoid the moralizing tone of Edel's film, by plotting both the highs and lows of drug addiction. "It acts like a drug itself," notes Oliver Berben, producer and executive board member at Constantin Film, "it's drawing you in."
Only by episode four of the eight-part series, do the drugs "begin to demand their tribute," notes Von Uslar. "That's when the drugs begin to be stronger than friendship."
The look of We Children from Bahnhof Zoo, which Constantin Television and Amazon Prime Video produced, and which Fremantle is selling internationally at Mipcom, is also a world away from Edel's Christiane F.  Gritty documentary realism has been swapped for a brighter palette of colors and images.
The production team built an entire club in Prague for the shoot, which finished principal photography shortly before Europe went into COVID-19 lockdown.
"We wrapped on February 6, it was a blessing," says von Uslar. "We've been able to spend the lockdown doing post."
The series' soundtrack is also a mash-up of tunes from the period —David Bowie's music plays a major role, as it did in Christiane F—with current EDM-style tracks.
It took nine months to cast the series' nearly 300 roles. The main clique at the heart of the show are played by Jana McKinnon (Christiane), Michelangelo Fortuzzi (Benno), Lena Urzendowsky (Stella), Bruno Alexander (Michi), Jeremias Meyer (Axel) and Lea Drinda (Babsi).
"Finding young actors who look like they belong in this world, who don't look out of place, was a major challenge," says Von Uslar. "But it gives the series a broader appeal. This is a show that has the potential to cross generations, to appeal both to the younger audience and to the 70s generation that grew up with the book."
Jens Richter, CEO of Fremantle International notes the appeal of the We Children from Bahnhof Zoo brand. "The book was a best-seller and translated into more than 20 languages and the film is extremely well known, particularly in Europe and Latin America," he says.
Fremantle is clearly targeting premium pay-TV and streaming services with the series, which will go out on Amazon Prime in German-speaking Europe.
"The market for this kind of non-English-language, high-end series has really opened up, it wasn't there in the same way even just 2-3 years ago," Richter says.
We Children from Bahnhof Zoo is set to premiere early 2021.

Iceman’s been back on my mind lately. It started with the internet rumor that Shia Labeouf was being considered to play the role of Bobby Drake in a Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the X-Men. My DMs and @Mentions on social media were a mixture of intense reaction and then asking my take on who would make a great Bobby Drake (for the record: in my head I always saw him as a younger Antoni Porowski with a theater background, ‘cuz playing the funny guy with a vulnerable streak requires serious acting shops). My mind went back to the time of BC, when I was doing a lot of touring, and answering this very question because of my work on the Iceman book at Marvel. One thing led to another, and I decided to take a trip further down memory lane to look at my favorite volume of the series: Amazing Friends. Now, I know I’ve spent equal amounts of time publicly stating what a gift working on Iceman was, while also calling out the challenges that came with the experience, but the third volume really was a pure blessing. I was able to take every valuable lesson I learned as a writer, and apply it to telling a story that would be interesting to one person: Me. I’ve been a lifelong X-Men fan, I live and breathe comics, so my own expectations for a return to the series seemed like the only ones to really worry about meeting/ surpassing. The first two volumes had been so bogged down by rotating editors, complex continuity, company-wide events, multiple artists… The third volume was my chance to focus on what an Iceman series was outside of so much context. All that mattered was challenging myself to do an X-Men story that focused on the aspects of the franchise I felt were valuable and relevant, meaning: excuses to have Emma Frost be an asshole and finding an opportunity to make fun of Kitty Pryde’s haircut. Before moving on from Marvel, Axel Alonso made time to call me for a pep talk about the series. I wanted to get the series extended, and he wanted to help me succeed with the ten issues he could commit to. First, he offered an eleventh issue to give me more time on the stands. He took a look at everything I had planned, and basically told me to restructure with an eye for ramping up the pace. My writing background comes from prose and essays/ think pieces… both of which are methodical and provide some allowance from the reader to really take your time and set up the world before diving into the meat. That’s not the case with comics. You gotta work fast. Especially in today’s market, there is less and less room for a retailer to say, “give it two volumes, because shit starts really coming together by the third trade.” That was literally my speech for hooking people on such iconic series as Invincible, Fables, and Strangers in Paradise. Nowadays, every single issue is not a brick to be laid down as foundation so much as a bullet in your gun. Conflicting imagery, but that’s the point. Axel told me to think about the Big Moments in my life and sort out how to inject the mutant metaphor into it and make the most compelling comic book story I could. This was epic advice that I took with me into the new arc, but I struggled a bit with what could be bigger than the “coming out” storyline in volume one. Love was off the table because I wanted to keep Bobby single and ready to mingle. Death was off the table too, because my editor felt like we’d done enough with Bobby’s parents in the first two volumes. Upon looking at my own life, and considering the stuff me and my friends were dealing with, I landed on something a bit more reflective than LIFE or DEATH. I wanted to focus on that moment when a gay guy looks outside of himself and realizes the folks around him may not have it so easy. After everything we’ve been dealing with this summer, Iceman’s “big issue” of the arc feels oddly prescient. Bobby Drake had to reconcile his accidental complicit role in keeping the Morlocks down, and he has to investigate new approaches to being a better ally to those who don’t want to or can’t live under the protection of the X-Men. I used the Morlocks to allegorically speak to the issues that the trans/ NB community face today. Considering that trans folks are facing higher rates of homelessness and murder than other members of the LGBTQIA+ community, all I needed to do was find a perfect villain to treat the Morlocks as “lesser-than.” Cue Mister Sinister, who I wrote as particularly Darwinist with a major flair for interactive theater. While Amazing Friends definitely is the most fun I’ve had working on the book, it was also full of the heaviest shit I’ve written about. I’m so grateful that my editor let me use Emma Frost for a story about the trauma of gay conversion therapy with her brother Christian, but I’m still annoyed he wouldn’t let me put her in a sickening Givenchy outfit for her reveal. Similarly, creating the Madin character required that I chat with several mental healthcare professionals and members of the NB community to respectfully portray them as a resilient and fleshed out hero. I included personal lessons that I learned from years of the therapy (the sandcastle / sea image, a Jay Edidin fave moment). My editor and I weren’t always aligned, but we definitely were on each other’s side. He understood what I was trying to do and asked questions when something flew over his head, and he even had the good instincts to stop me from going too heavy handed with the ending. My original idea for the arc’s finale was to have Bobby become permanently scarred in his fight with Sinister, where he’d have a cool ice gash running across his face or something, a la Squall from Final Fantasy 8. The goal was to show Iceman stripping himself of his ability to pass as non-mutant to save the Morlocks, but the Mutant Pride fight scene being a stand-in for the Stonewall Riots kind of already made enough of a statement. Plus, no one in editorial wanted to deal with remembering to track his scar in other books. At first I tried to balk at his point of view, but when I looked over my original notes for the series, the point was to focus on optimism and hope. Giving Bobby a permanent scar and emphasizing the notion of sacrifice was too bleak a message for a series wherein the hero carbo-loads hoagies while riding an ice scooter and mutant drag queens emcee local festivals. Of course, the crowning achievement of the series… my mutant drag queen :) I’ve witnessed a lot when it comes to the world of pop culture and myth-making, and I 100% believe that you can’t plan the success of something. I’ve seen bands forced into breaking up because labels spend six figures failing at making listeners connect with an album. I witnessed firsthand how The Walking Dead was built from relatively humble beginnings as a buzzy cable drama into a literal international phenomenon over the course of its first three seasons. Everyone hopes for the best, but you never know how something will land with audiences. When the Shade character took off, I was truly astounded. Things I posted on Instagram while half-asleep became official quotes on major news sites. Queens and cosplayers were interpreting her like Margot Robbie had unveiled a new Harley Quinn lewk. The impact was so legit and immediate that we had to jump in and give Shade a proper Marvel hero alias, to truly welcome her into the X-Men canon. Hence the name change to Darkveil. (Funny story: I tried to fight hard for Madame X as an alias, but CB didn’t want another Agent X / “X-Name” character. Three months later, Madonna announced the Madame X album. Phew!) There was a time where I felt uncertain that the folks in charge at Marvel would bring Darkveil into any stories outside of the ones I wrote. My understanding was that Hickman was like the Cylons and had A Plan-- one that didn’t include her character. I made peace with my contribution to the Marvel Universe being contained, but then someone on social media pointed out that Darkveil showed up in an issue of Marvel Voices. After breaking down and reading Hickman’s House of X, I saw that his Plan was one of endless possibilities, and that he was moving EVERY character into new and dynamic places. I have hope now that he sees the possibilities with Darkveil, and takes advantage of her and all of her many body pouches. Amazing Friends really is my favorite thing I’ve done for the Big Two. I made a lifelong friend out of artist Nate Stockman (DC, please hire us for a Plasticman book), and I got to run a victory lap with the most encouraging and supportive readers out there. It was worth every dreadful conversation, every shitty thing a person said to me online, and all of the fun nonsense that goes into being creative for a living. Being stuck at home in quarantine has given me a lot of time to reflect on the gift that my career to date has been, and I feel so grateful to be where I am today. Other people may groan when they have to talk about something they’ve moved on from, but not me. I made people happier, I got to work with my favorite characters at Marvel, and and I'll say it again: it’s a frickin’ gift to make people move from your work. So, I will engage every tweet or message asking me my thoughts about who should play Bobby Drake in the Marvel Cinematic Universe… I’ll just never have a good answer.

Ranking every Teen Drama I have ever watched
(Updated)
The Secret Life of the American Teenager
+ young Shailene Woodley and Molly Ringwald I guess
- everything else. Even Shailene Woodley's and Molly Ringwald's performances weren't that great because the writing is just oh so bad. The background music is bland and repetative and it sounds like out of some teenager's YouTube chanel. The plotlines are ridiculous and convoluted, which isn't neccessarily such a bad thing, because it is a teen drama show after all, the problem is the show seems to take itself too seriously. Other entries on this list also have ridiculously convoluted plotlines, but I'm ranking them highed because they don't take themselves too seriously and don't claim to be realistic like this show does. Seriously, from the title it suggests like this was going to be a real, uncensored look into high school but it's the furthest thing from it. Not to mention how problematic it is- God forbid someone suggests that a 14-year-old pregnant girl gets an abortion or gives the baby up for adoption without being seen as a terrible and despicable person.
Otp: Marc Molina x a job somewhere far, far away from these kids
Notps: every single pairing on this show
Best moment: literally none
Weirdest moment: "I'm such a whore!" "Well, you're my whore." What were the writers thinking??? Was this supposed to be romantic??
We Children From Zoo Station
+the aesthetic, the casting of Christiane, Detlef and Axel
-this was such a letdown. Honestly I was so hyped for it after seeing the trailer since I've read the book and didn't particularly like the movie- I feel like it's hard to fit all of Christiane's story into 90 minutes. That's why I was so excited about this show. Christiane's story covers so much, so it's easier to make it into a TV show when you don't want to ommit anything and butcher the story. But they somehow managed to do it anyway. They changed so much for no reason and completely erased Christiane's childhood trauma, which was important in the book. Now, I know you can say that it's just a loose adaptation, so it doesn't have to follow the book word for word. But I feel like if you already decided to tell her- a real person's story- you should at least do it authentically. Imo they shouldn't have tried to make the setting vague. It worked with Sex Education because the story of Sex Education is timeless. However, Christiane's story is not timeless. It's a true story set in the 1970s. If they were making a new show from scratch, I would have liked it. But this is an already existing story and they’re supposed to be just retelling it. My last issue is a nit pick but I wish the actresses playing Stella and Babsi were reversed. It just would've fit better.
Otps: all those kids x sobriety
Notp: Christiane x Detlef
Best moment: Christiane's first time in Sound was pretty true to the book
Weirdest moment: when Detlef became a gigolo because he needed money for his dog. Who tf thought of that?
Pretty Little Liars
+ makeup, style, the theme song, the drama and mystery that always kept me guessing, the cliffhangers at the end of each episode that made it so addictive, Emily's coming out story, Hanna and Spencer had some good lines
- the mishandling of some serious issues (namely eating disorders), romantization of student-teacher relationship, the timeline not making much sense, these writers seem to put more thought into the characters' outfits than the storylines
Otps: Emily x Maya, Hanna x Caleb
Notp: Ezria
Best moment: Hanna and Caleb in the shower (the sexual tension was cuttable with a knife)
Weirdest moments: Aria asking Ezra out in the middle of a make-up test (it was supposed to be cute but it was just cringy), Spencer trying to block A's text messages on a laptop, in the middle of a park (what? Spencer, you were supposed to be the smart one!)
One Tree Hill
+ Brooke, the theme song, Chad Michael Murray
- the casual drinking and driving (I mean seriously these kids play a drinking game at a party and then casually hop into a car and drive home??), too much basketball and cheerleading (that's not a bad thing per se but I just don't really care about neither of these things), it just seems too stereotypical and kinda bland?? I couldn't really get into it
Otp: Naley
Notp: Peyton x Nathan
Best moment: Naley by the dock
Weirdest moment: "I guess I'm just a riddle, wrapped in a mystery inside a bitch." It's not really a bad moment but a cringy line. I guess the writers though they were being clever but it just sounded bad.
Dawson's Creek
+ the clothes, the 90s aesthetic, the 90s soundtrack, many movie references, Pacey is a sweetheart, Jen is a feminist icon, dealing with mental health issues through Andie (it's rare to see in shows as old as this)
- the slutshaming of Jen really hasn't aged well, the storyline of Pacey being statury raped by his much older teacher was mishandled (it was either treated as scandalous, cool or in Andie’s case somehow shameful), same goes for Jen’s backstory- it was mentioned she was raped at 12 by an older man and then never brought up again, Dawson is the most unlikable protagonist ever and his friendship/relationship with Joey is codependent and possessive, the dialogue is sometimes pretentious and unrealistic, the timeline doesn't really add up- I can never tell what time of the year it's supposed to be, because it looks like it's always fall for some reason. And how did they sophomore year have two homecomings?
Otps: Pacey x Andie, Pacey x Joey (yes, both at the same time)
Notp: Dawson x Joey
Best moments: Jen helping Joey when that jerk was spreading rumours about her and then Jen and Joey locking Abby in the closet together (I love it when they stick together instead of tearing each other down), Pacey and Joey bickering
Weirdest moments: when Joey was upset because Dawson didn’t want to tell her how often he “walks his dog”, when Jen was about to have a treesome at a party and Dawson walked into the room and carried her out despite her kicking and screaming
Glee
+ funny, Sue Sylvester's iconic, great covers and a way to find new songs, the performances are aesthetically pleasing, lgbtq+ representation, tackling of serious issues, coming out story, a father who’s accepting of his son’s sexuality right away despite not really understanding it (it’s so rare to see, that’s why it’s so refreshing), the plotlines are ridiculous but at least the show doesn't take itself too seriously
-as I already said the 1st season was great but after that it just seemed like the writers made up a checklist of hard issues they should tackle and tried to tackle every single one of them while covering every single song and it just fell flat. Prime example- Quinn ending up in a wheelchair getting into a car crash to warn us from drinking and driving, singing I’m Still Standing and then suddenly being able to walk normally after. a few episodes Rachel and Finn got almost all songs, while other characters were criminally underrated and underused (Tina, Quinn, Mercedes). The teachers are questionable to put it mildly. Cringy moments- Finn singing You're Having My Baby to Quinn in front of her parents when it wasn't even his baby! Also no one except of Kurt looks like they could be in high school. And why are these cheerleaders wearing their uniforms 24/7??
Otps: Brittana, Sam x Quinn, Tina x Artie (unpopular opinion, I know), Mr Schue x unemployment
Notp: Quinn x Finn
Best moments: Quinn giving birth to Bohemian Rhapsody
Weirdest moment: Rachel's gross and painfully awkward crush on Mr Schue, Mr Schue joining the Glee club on the stage for a performance of Toxic and girls in the audience cat calling him (Ewww)
Euphoria
+ Zendaya's and Jacob Elordi's performances, tackling of serious issues such as drug addiction and overdose, anxiety and depression, abusive relationships and abortion in a better manner than most (if not all) teen dramas, the aesthetics, makeup and wardrobe, the musical number in the finale, the special episodes giving us insight into the characters' psychology, toxic relationships not being romanticized (which is sadly rare), teenagers sounding like actual real life teens (no "I reject reality" crap)
- lack of comic relief (why so serious all the time), sexualization of teen characters (I know this is something many teen dramas are guilty of but it's the most evident here), too much nudity (I know some of you are going to come at me with: "But it's realistic!" So what? It is realitic that teenagers get naked when they go into shower but does it mean we have to see it?? It seems to me like this show is trying too hard to be "boundary pushing" at times and ends up being scandalous just for the sake of being scandalous), these characters just aren't believable as high school juniors to me (they sound like high schoolers but they certainly don’t act, look or dress that way). There's no reason this show couldn't have been set in college.
Otps: Rue x sobriety, Nate x prison
Notps: Nate x Maddy, Cassie x McKay
Best moments: "You did this to me!" and the musical number in the season 1 finale
Weirdest moment: the fact that Maddy lost her virginity at 14 to a 40-year-old man being mentioned so casually because apparently she was "totally in control". Excuse me what??
Skins
+ style and makeup- each character has a signature trademark (Sid and his beanie, Effy's eyeliner, Cassie's soft eyeshadow), their British accents, I'm pretty sure this is the only teen drama that follows multiple classes, teenage characters being played by actual teen actors, the characters looking like average people you meet in high school and not as if they just walked off the runway, dealing with serious issues such as drug abuse, eating disorder, parental abandonment etc (yes, some people claim the show romanticized it, but I disagree. It's not the show that romanticized it- it's the fans. The show tried to portray the dangers of drugs as well as possible. Think about it- every time characters used drugs it ended in a disaster. In the pilot they thought that Cassie overdosed and ended up crashing a car while rushing into the hospital. In later season Effy hit her friend in the head with a rock because she was having a bad trip. That's not romanticizing drugs.), Effy is iconic and honestly the first episode was enough to get me hooked
- every single teacher being a creep and having a thing for a student at some point, the show can get too dark and unncessarily dramatic at times. Did that many people have to die? Did Chris's death really have to be this graphic? Timeline doesn't really add up- are 8 episodes supposed to cover the whole year? It would've made more sense if there were more episodes in a season.
Otps: Chris x Jal, Emily x Naomi
Notps: Sid x Michelle
Best moment: ooh baby it's a wild world
Weirdest moment: Chris's graphic death
The OC
+ more grounded in reality than many others on this list, the theme song, the love stories, Seth and Summer are funny, the friendships are believable and the whole group has great chemistry
- too many unneccessary fights, Luke is the worst, everyone is way too casual about drunk driving, these parents are WAAAY too chill (I know this can be said about many teen dramas but it's the most obvious here. How did the Roberts and the Coopers let two 16-year-old girls go to Mexico alone?? With no supervision?? What?)
Otps: Seth x Summer, Ryan x Marissa
Notp: Luke x Marissa
Best moments: the “oh no, there’s only one bed” in the Mexico episode, Seth and Summer's first kiss and that kiss at the yacht, Ryan and Marissa's first date by the pool
Weirdest moment: these parents letting their teenage kids go to Mexico alone. It's irresponsible when they're 16 but apparently they let them go there and party every year. What?
Gossip Girl
+ every episode having a clever title, the style, the makeup, the 00s soundtrack, the glamour of it all (it feels like reading a very gossipy magazine!), all the scandals, this show never pretends to portray the realitic teenage experience so it can pretty much be as far-fetched as it wants to and you can’t question it, it gives you a chance to live the fantasy of being super rich, living with a penthouse, riding a limo to school and going to parties in New York City every night
- the final reveal doesn't make any sense, just like with PLL these writers seemed to have put more thought into the outfits and makeup than into the plotlines, romantization of a toxic relationship, having every two straight characters date or hook up at some point, which just felt forced, mishandling of serious issues (Blair's eating disorder, Eric's suicide attempt and Serena and Jenny's sexual assault from the pilot being brought up when it's convenient but not really dealt with and brushed off at other times), sexualization of teen characters
Otps: Dan x Blair, Serena x Nate
Notps: Chuck x Blair
Best moments: the Thanksgiving flashbacks, Blair and Serena running around New York and taking selfies in stolen dresses, Nate and Serena’s first time (although it was better in the books) and then their kiss at the white party, the sheer scandal of "I killed someone", Dan giving Blair a plastic tiara to make her feel like a princess
Weirdest moments: Chuck's father returning from the death and then dying again, by yeeting himself off the roof
Freaks and Geeks
+ probably the most realistic teen drama there is, the characters dress the way I can see actual teens dressing, funny, but also heatbreaking at times, probably the only teen show that included an intersex character, the characters being a little stereotypical but self-aware at least, young James Franco and Jason Segel
- the bullying being a bit too much at times and it's a bit unrealistic that the teachers would do literally nothing about it, too short- I will never understand why this got cancelled
Otps: Daniel x Kim, Lindsay x Nick, Amy x Ken
Notps: Sam x Cindy
Best moments: Sam breaking down at the end of Garage Door, Daniel and Kim getting back together in the rain
Weirdest moment: Cindy doing a 180 and becoming super mean when she started dating Sam.
Gilmore Girls
+ so many movie, literary and music references, the quotable lines (what a great way to learn about new movies, books and bands! It’s so unique for a TV show to make you smarter), the witty banter, the comfort of the first few seasons (it really feels like wrapping a warm blanket around yourself while holding a hot cup of coffee, I can’t explain why, but it’s such a comfort show), the quirky small town with many unique festivals, many entertaining and snappy fights where everyone has a point, characters dealing with real world problems (seriously, how often do you see a storyline about termites? Or a teenager with zit cream on a teen drama show?), this is also one of the few shows where teenagers are shown to have rules and restrictions and curfews (finally some kids growing up with strict parents representation) and doing homework and studying and not just partying and drinking and having sex all the time and that’s so refreshing
- but while it is refreshing to see teenagers waiting to have sex and not doing it behind every corner, the show is kind of sex negative. Every single time a (female) character loses her virginity it ends in a disaster. Even when she loses it after she’s married! It doesn’t make any sense, unless the writers just really hated women. Also slutshaming (”I got the good kid!”) ewww. The money and budget doesn’t make much sense on the show either and the girls seem immune to calories. I know some people might come at me for this with: “But it’s just a show!” but I think it’s harmful to show beautiful, thin women eat nothing but tons of junkfood all the time and never excersize and then fatshame people who do excersize but aren’t fortunate enough to be blessed with amazing Gilmore genes, and then throw around tactless references to eating disorders.
Otps: Lane x Dave, Jess x Rory
Notps: Lane x Zach, Rory x Dean, Lorelai x Christopher
Best moments: Then She Appeared, Rory’s valedictorian speech, Lorelai’s graduation
Weirdest moment: Lorelai and Christopher getting married in Paris at 4am. That’s not how it works in Europe. Do Americans think every single Europian country works like Las Vegas, where you can just get married whenever you decide??
