This was originally meant to be another long one-shot, a companion piece of sorts to the one I did for Velcinta Week, but I realized I could spread it out over the whole event if I broke it up. If you did read that previous story, just know that this is not actually attached to that in any way, I just wanted to do the same format again. (and if you haven't read it...go read it, it's my favorite)

what no one has done nearly enough with is vel and cassian (or more likely, joreth sward or someone) having a lavender marriage for the Rebellion. vel needs a more convenient Cover for not being a nice heterosexually married Chandrilan Lady and the rebellion needs to sink another long term sleeper agent into the Chandrilan elite to pass money and information around. Vel and Cassian think they're going to kill each other in the first week or be immediately found out but the thing is that because they have a shared purpose and don't actively hate each other's guts they can grit their teeth and Bear It for the rebellion and in comparison to the *rest* of *real* Chandrilan couples this is an absolute dream relationship, so everyone's after Vel for marriage advice

@stripedroseandsketchpads tagged me in this. And oh my god. If you think there are Too Many Words in the fic I publish, you should see my poor notes app. Here is a sneak peek of its contents. I haven't edited for brevity/those I'm actively working on, these are just all the unfinished files I could find. Some I don't intend to do any more with, others I'd really like to pick up again. The only ones being actively worked on right now are the Andor Saga AU and the first one on the list for Andor.

I put ALL the Lymond I could find in mainly for @oughtaagh who has been leaving the most lovely comments on my Lymond fics that I have totally failed to respond to. I'm sorry! I will cycle back round to Lymond one day, it's inevitable <3

C: We decided we were thirsty, and you wanted to go to Cavo's. As yet untitled Brassian alternative scene - what if instead of a great collaborative cover story this was a great collaborative fuck? Almost(?) finished?

Saga AU pt 2. This actually does have a working title of 'The Bear and the Berserk' but this doc is just a short bullet point list of plot things for a specific part of the fic.

Cassian pov. It's a Cassian pov chapter! For...drumroll...the first chapter of the Saga AU pt 2! The rest is going to be back to Brasso FPN. The file actually includes a rough first draft of chapter 2, as well.

"You're up early this morning," Bix says lightly. A follow-up chapter to Only Ever Just One Night started back when I had epic plans for continuing this, bringing in Cinta and Vel and Luthen, whumping the hell out of Brasso, and having Cassian rescue him. This is just one scene of awkward conversation with tea though.

Oh god it developed Plot. Related to the previous chapter - a bullet-pointed list of things that might have happened in this fic I Wil Not Write (not least as I'd rather just see what happens in S2 first anyway).

It was a sunny day in Batumi... Patchy few paragraphs of the next chapter of Inchoate.

THE LYMOND CHRONICLES

Canon-verse/other AUs

Multiple pieces of follow-up to The next man with a ladder, Danny/Jerott post-canon: It was dark when they rode into the port town... [Chapter 3, basically done, plus most of Chapter 4 but it devolves into broken paragraphs at the end]. "I'm going to the other bed," Danny said in a voice like someone was standing on his throat... [??? there's loads of this written! This is the file where they Get Down To It] Stitch the scenes together [a few paragraphs in which I hoped to make a logical leap from Chapter 4 to fucking, but seemingly never quite got there].

Lymondar saga draft. Actually two files of the abortive first effort at writing a saga AU. I was trying much harder to write in saga style and playing with lacunae in a way that was fun for me but exceedingly nerdy. I think I found the idea more fun than the execution, too.

St Seb. Remember ages ago when I was writing a post-canon 'Jerott gets shot full of arrows and has to admit his feelings because he thinks he's gonna die' fic? This is the file! Some bullet points and some text, some of which I even posted as Sunday sixes way back when iirc.

Fait prosperer qui n'est à croire vain. Fuck me, there's LOADS of this. Pawn in Frankincense/Ringed Castle AU where Marthe steals Lymond's ride with Kiaya Khatun and persuades her they should take over Russia together. Meanwhile Francis is left with Jerott. Hahaha. It kept getting longer because Francis kept trying to escape and I kept finding ways to drag him back, but the 'and now kiss!!' with the two of them behaving in character was just not coming easily.

Francis Crawford's Holistic Inquisition Agency. I wrote this??? One chapter of a Lymond/Dirk Gently AU, where Francis is obviously Dirk and Jerott is a furious/bemused Todd.

She tried every instrument, she redrew every chart. A few short chapters, never finished, of Marthe wrestling with her role in canon and her fate as assigned by La Dame. A couple more paragraphs of a similar sort of thing in Volos.

Malta. Half-arsed few paragraphs of wondering how Jerott would cope with meeting a fellow Knight being imprisoned for sodomy.

Band AU (my 1980s rock band AU for the series, see also @theartistknownaslymond)

Au of an Au. What if, after the Battle of the Bands at Solway, Jerott went to stay at the Edinburgh townhouse for a while and he and Francis got to collaborating in the shed? There's quite a lot of this and it's quite fluffy.

Out out out! The band celebrate Thatcher's downfall. Happy epilogues for everyone! However it's an epic task trying to do all the characters justice, so I was trying to write it as vignettes to match each song on the playlist. Six-ish are written. And earlier draft with plan for characters intercting is in Ding dong the witch is dead.

Jerott/Marthe - four times it just about worked, one time it really didn't. What it says on the tin? aka you just know Jerott has said 'Francis' instead of Marthe at least once when he comes. Only the beginning of the first time exists in this chapter, but I think I explored the idea elsewhere, whenever I dig up that file...

DWTH missing scene. Jerott/OC missing scene from Don't wake the house. Not finished, probably not going to be finished. I think I have enough Jerott smut on the go.

Workshop. Patchy draft of pre-canon Jerott and GRM 'therapy' session in which GRM learns about Francis Crawford and what a hold he has on the boy he thought of as his own plaything. GRM doesn't like sharing.

F/P. Draft of a fluffy kiss prompt someone (@erinaceina? @notfromcold?) sent for Francis/Philippa. Post-canon pregnant Philippa and worried Francis written when it was too hot in summer. It's probably complete enough to post tbh! hmu if you want it posting.

Jerott behaving badly (again). Somehow this ended up in the 'comfortember' section of the notepad, which...no? Maybe it was intended to be originally, but it grew a life of its own. Post-canon, post split-up with the OC, pre-getting together with Danny. Joining the mile high club and regretting it, then ending up crashing at Joleta's (who he meets coincidentally at the airport, NOT who he's screwing in the airplane loo!!). It's meant to end up cathartic, but didn't get finished :') I'm actually really pleased with what I have - post-canon Joleta is so much fun to write!

Somewhere (Google Drive?? an actual Word doc??) there is also loads and loads and LOADS of Pawn in Frankincense band AU around Baron Morgan's place (the Aga Morat), featuring fucked-up Francis/Morgan, fucked up Marthe/Kiaya, fucked up Francis/Kiaya, and bewildered cold turkey Jerott. There's also some Jerott/Marthe from later on.

Other

Crossover. A sequel to my ATWD fic I will shake mountains, where Merab and Irakli encounter celebrity diners in the restaurant they work in: respected musician Francis Crawford and friends take the boys for a drink and share queer/artistic inspiration/history with them. There's quite a lot written but I couldn't quite manage to finish it off.

St Mary's. Another ATWD/Lymond crossover, placing Merab and Irakli among the mercenaries of St Mary's. Mostly bullet points.

3m. Furious that there was no fic for the film Three Months I decided to jot down a scene I wanted to see afterwards. I wrote four lines and cannot remember what my plan was at all.

no but there is something here, in the contrast between the ratchet toward isolation and soul-death as we see it in especially Luthen, who views himself as heroically damned, as a necessary evil (his “what have i sacrificed?” speech was great, but we are not supposed to accept it uncritically), and in Cinta, who really doesn’t seem to think of herself as a person at all (in her own words, she’s a mirror. in her actions, she seems to think of herself as a weapon.) - between that and the uprising in Ferrix, which happens in and because of an established community - traditions, relationships, mutual aid organizations. the people of Ferrix don’t go to Rix Road with a meticulous plan of engagement. there’s coordination, but that’s because they know each other and talk to each other. we don’t know who decided to move the funeral up! there isn’t a leader making decisions and handing them down and letting everyone below scramble to adjust. that’s not the only way to do this!

this is why Luthen is in this episode, to bear witness to the fact that the road of knives he started down all those years ago is not the only road to his destination. it’s likely what he does is necessary. it’s likely the environment he operates in necessitates his paranoia and isolation. but the point of the episode, of Nemik’s manifesto, of the whole show, is that this is not all, or even most, of what goes into an effective rebellion. you do, after all, need love.

Mind The Gap

it was midnight and I was thinking it would be funny to meet all the andor characters on the tube because I went to England a bit ago and thought it was fun to stare at the people across from me so don’t judge please-

You ran down the escalator as fast as you could, veering right to your Tube station. The train slid into the platform, and you decided to take the emptiest compartment on your way to work. You slept in, and your rumpled appearance would draw enough attention at the office. No need to bear more judgmental looks than necessary. The doors opened, and you slipped into a compartment occupied by eight people. The tension in the compartment could’ve been cut with a knife. Everyone seemed to know (and dislike) each other. You considered finding a less awkward compartment, but the doors closed before you could step out. The first woman on your right was blonde, with her hair up in a messy bun. She was fast asleep, curled up next to a woman with dark skin, who was absently stroking the blond’s hair. The dark-skinned one had an expression of passionate concentration on her face as she held a device. It looked like she was drawing, but you didn’t peek. She didn’t seem like someone who you wanted to cross, and she also didn’t seem like the person who was proud of her art, by the way she held it to her chest. The woman glanced at you, frowning. She was intense. The blonde seemed nice enough, though. You wondered how they ended up together; they seemed so different. The man closest to them (but still two seats away from everyone else-and you had a feeling that was intentional) had a brooding expression on his face, apparently lost in thought. He had a small beard and unruly hair, and was pretty good-looking, but, again, he seemed intense. He winced at every movement of the train, and clutched something in his pocket that looked like a knife. You inched away from him. The next man sat next to a woman with a severe expression, hunched over a computer and typing furiously. The man next to her was… staring at her. Just staring. It was clear they knew each other from their glances at each other, but it was… suspicious. On the other side of the train was a well-dressed woman. She had designer clothes and accessories, but she didn’t look happy at all. She was frequently glancing at a man a few seats away, looking impatient. Her gaze often returned to her phone, where she was evidently waiting for a text. You snuck a glance at the wallpaper and saw that it had a picture of a pretty young girl on it, evidently her daughter. She fidgeted a little where she sat, not touching anything. You didn’t blame her. The Tube was a good mode of transportation, but not the cleanest place in London. The older man she kept looking at was talking in a hushed, agitated voice to a young woman. You didn’t hear much of the conversation, but the words “collector, artifact and piece” caught your attention. You assumed they were curators at the British museum or something like that. You looked up at the map and realized your station was next. You had spent so much time unabashedly analyzing these passengers that the trip had seemed like no time at all. The train came to a stop, and you stepped out, wondering who you were leaving behind.

Sering kali, manusia berharap banyak kepada manusia lain. Sering sekali, kita menaruh banyak ekspektasi kepada orang lain, berdoa dan yakin mereka akan memenuhi ekspektasi kita. Tua, muda, laki-laki, perempuan, pria, wanita, orang dewasa, maupun anak kecil.

Harapan adalah hal yang menyakitkan. Anak kecil berharap kepada orang tuanya untuk membelikannya mainan, atau sekedar menemaninya bermain. Namun kedua orang tuanya memilih mengabaikannya. Seorang pria berharap istrinya akan setia menemani hidupnya sampai usia senja, tetapi sang istri memilih pergi dan memulai hubungan dengan pria lain. Seorang nenek berharap cucunya akan menemani hari-hari terakhirnya, tapi mereka bahkan melupakan si nenek.

Dunia tidak lebih dari untaian harapan yang tidak terkabulkan.

Mungkin itu sebabnya kita diminta tidak berharap kepada orang lain. Mungkin itu sebabnya saat masih ragu untuk membuka hati, diingatkan untuk tidak menggantungkan harapan. Manusia dituntut untuk membuang harapan dan semata-mata bergantung pada kepasrahan atas kehendak Tuhan.

Kita memang bisa berusaha, atau berikhtiar. Namun, bahkan diri kita sendiri pun terkadang tidak dapat diharapkan bisa berusaha sebaik mungkin. Maka, dunia bukan hanya terdiri dari untaian harapan yang tidak terkabulkan, melainkan juga penuh dengan rasa pesimis yang terbuahi di dalam hati manusia sampai akhirnya berbunga dan berbuah menjadi kegagalan pahit.

Agaknya manusia lupa, saat harapan sering kali menipu dan menciptakan kekecewaan, seharusnya manusia ingat dirinya pun masih memiliki nilai yang berharga. Memang, penolakan selalu menyakitkan. Contohnya, kita hanya meminta agar kita dicintai, tapi mengapa mereka yang kita cintai menolak melakukannya? Apakah kita tidak pantas dicintai? Apakah manusia sehina itu sampai harus mengemis rasa cinta untuk merasa dirinya berharga?

Hal inilah yang sering dilupakan manusia. Penolakan bertubi-tubi membuat harapan runtuh, dan seiring dengan runtuhnya harapan, rasa rendah diri pun muncul. Ketidakberhargaan, keengganan untuk mendorong diri sendiri agar kuat kembali. Rasa-rasanya ingin menyerah dan bersembunyi dalam ruang gelap, takut ditertawakan orang lain jika lagi-lagi, kita gagal. Padahal, bukan hanya kita yang tidak berhasil. Dunia berisi buah-buah kegagalan, bukan?

Kegagalan memang meruntuhkan semangat. Harapan yang tidak terlaksana itu menyakitkan, dan akhirnya kembali kita menyalahkan diri sendiri. Namun apa yang tidak pernah dikatakan adalah harga diri ikut runtuh bersama asa yang mulai redup. Seorang wanita merasa ditipu oleh mantan kekasih yang dicintainya. Selama ini, wanita itu memegang prinsip mencari sosok pria yang pintar, dewasa, dan bertanggung jawab. Akhirnya, standar-standar yang dipegangnya runtuh. Rasa kesepiannya menggelora, membuatnya mencari pasangan baru hanya untuk menghapus rasa kesepian tersebut. Apa yang terasa seperti cinta ternyata bukan cinta, hanya pengusir rasa sesal di dalam hati.

Rasa sepi itu akhirnya pergi, tapi datang lagi risiko baru yang tidak terduga, si wanita tanpa sadar mudah dimanipulasi oleh pria, tampak putus asa mencari rasa cinta hanya demi mengusir sepi. Penat memang tak lagi menjerat, tapi ancaman baru muncul, perlahan bangkit dari tidurnya. Hingga kemudian ketika pria dalam hidup si wanita itu pergi, wanita itu akan kesepian lagi, dan ritme itu akan terus berulang.
