rosa’s team from sword as gijinka! info about them beneath the cut.
Ella - Cinderace - she/her - lesbian Black - cis woman - age 21
Ella is full of joy and life, she’s smiles and cheer, she’s happy to be here! A young soccer pro drafted into League battling for her fiery passion and clear leadership potential. She has a natural charisma about her that brings people together and execute plans correctly, as evidenced by her time on the field. She stayed briefly in the Champion’s guard, where she met Graves as a Sobble, and the two became friends, despite being from different walks of life. That’s Ella for you, making friends wherever she goes, and that is a pervasive fact through her journey for the league. Of course, she never expected to have to face down a God like Eternatus, but she didn’t let that stop her.
Besides soccer, she’s passionate about cooking and loves to fire up the stove with curry! She’s all about that curry! She’s also always down for some pre-dinner stretching, some pre-dinner fighting, just a little brawling here or there. She never thought she’d be so into competitive battle, but there’s something intoxicating about it she can’t resist. She feels like she can make friends through an exchange of fists!
Ella just loves making friends, exchanging numbers, becoming pen pals, it’s all so fun! She didn’t expect to find those she considers her family through her journey but here she is! Thomasin is her best pal, she might even consider her a sister! And where would she be without Connie, she’s been there the longest. Sometimes she steals Connie’s hand to hold, and other times, she steals her lips.
Connie - Sandaconda - they/she - queer Mexican-Japanese - nonbinary woman - age 30
Connie is a sleepy individual. They’re always in a bit of a haze, like they just didn’t get enough sleep, or maybe they got too much sleep and they can’t snap out of it. They just love naps! Is that such a problem? Their manager certainly seemed to think so. Connie is an accomplished model who would often sneak off to the wilderness to camp for a few days at a time to get away from the busy city. This is how they met Ella and were swept into a gym challenge. They didn’t expect to like it, but you know, if you have to be awake, they don't mind giving a deserving individual a good bop. Their striking gaze sent shivers down the enemies spine, assisting a great deal in a tough spot.
As stated, Connie is a model, and being a model means you have a lot of responsibilities that you can completely ignore and run off at the drop of a hat to do whatever you please. Their manager is not too fond of them, but they can’t find it in their heart to care. They do care about the fashion they have to wear, it’s been their dream job since they were little to wear the fanciest clothes you can. They’re good at their job, they’re good at looking pretty in nice clothes, and that’s how they keep it.
They love the friends they’ve made along the way, Thomasin is always stubbornly trying to knock them off balance and prove herself superior, but it’s all good fun. And they quite enjoys Sybil’s attempts at music. And Minerva and Ella’s combined efforts to produce excellent cooking! Oh, Ella, she’s a darling, isn’t she. Connie is smitten with her, that’s for sure.
Matilda - Hatterene - she/they - lesbian Japanese - nonbinary - age 27
Matilda is a witch from the swampy areas in the Glimmwood Tangle. She would happily live there for the rest of her life and not interact with other people if necessary, but she unfortunately happened to leave the safety of her bog for family reasons (if she had a choice she never would have, but ugh, relatives), and during that time, ran into Ella and the gang, who excitedly recruited her to their great quest across the land. At first, she only intended to be along for the ride back to the Glimmwood Tangle, but for reasons she’d never admit to, she stuck around.
She is a calm, collected individual, keeping her emotions in check constantly and disgusted by those who freely express themselves for the world to be known. Little known to others, her emotions bubble beneath the surface, and if pushed too far, they boil over and she gets extremely overwhelmed and unable to control herself. Not that she lets that happen ever (often). She mostly deals in potions of various uses, and magics that stir nature in a pot to boil much like her emotions.
Matilda isn’t looking for anyone to date, she isn’t looking for friends, she isn’t looking for anyone at all. Especially men. Stereotypical mean man-hating lesbian right here. She’d never admit she has feelings for Ella (the feeling is friendship) and wishes Sybil will just leave her alone (she gets flustered.)
Sybil - Toxicitry - she/her - bi White - trans woman - age 20
Look out, here’s team baby! And she’s loud, she’s proud, she’s here to rock and roll! And, oh, that didn’t rhyme, did it? She’s working on that, she swears. From a family of successful doctors and midwives, she had big dreams to get out of babysitting newborns, and get out there and get her voice heard! She wants to rock people’s faces off with her awesome guitar solos! Granted, she’s not that good at guitar, she’s better on base, and she’s not the best at singing, but she swears she has sick lyrics. When Ella’s group stopped at her family’s nursery, she could tell there was greatness on its way up, and she figured she could ride it to success!
Sybil can be very explosive about her interests, launching into long spirals of talking, one topic to the next, she can’t control herself. She’s autistic and she just wants you to know! Things she likes! That’s not bad, right? She never stops to ask if they want her to stop, she really can let it get away from her. It’s fine though, her new group of friends are so supportive! More than her family had been, she’d even venture to call this new group more family than she’d known.
She gets along real well with Ella, the two can be seen playing ball or sparring at any given time, gotta keep up with them gains! And when running into Graves’ group, she’s in talks with Thrasher to start a band together! And then there’s Matilda, she once witnessed her emotions boil over and it was so cute she just has to see it again. Sybil can be a little menace.
Minerva - Appletun - she/they - lesbian White - trans woman - age 45
Minerva certainly isn’t old enough to be considered a grandma, but she is, actually, a grandma. She’s got a few kids from back in the day before she transitioned, and those kids had a few more kids, and here she is, grandmother at a young age. What this means to say is she’s definitely team mom when it comes to Ella’s group. She’s surrounded by children nearly the age of her own, and someone’s got to mother them! She ran into the group when they were visiting the nursery with her newest grandchild, and what was a small agreement to help with the upcoming gym turned into an adventure she didn’t expect! She never traveled when she was younger and found she loved it.
She also loved the kids that came along with it. She loved feeding them especially. Ella was a little prodigy with food, and Minerva just wanted to feed that flame and love of food. Minerva loves food, she’s a cook by trade and she loves filling a meal with love. Other than that, she collects old books, out of print editions, and keeps them in her sturdy little home up by Circhester. She was content being alone for so long, long distant contact with her children, she didn’t expect to need company.
But that company she definitely had. She found an old soul resonating with her in Iosefka, the two oldest of the group, the old Frosmoth always seemed to have just the right ingredients for her stews. Something stewed between the two of them, there’s for sure. She also enjoyed running into Graves’ group and meeting Grevious, a fellow designated mom.
Iosefka - Frosmoth - she/her - lesbian Black - cis woman - age 48
Iosefka was but a simple traveling merchant. She’d seen all shades of Galar over the years, seeing it’s darkest underbelly, to its brightest sun shining peaks, and she loves her home region with all her heart despite knowing there’s some people that it would be better without. But she’s not one to comment on that, not unless asked, after all, she’s just an unassuming merchant here to stock you up for the road and not give her opinion, heavens no! So wasn’t it so surprising that she was absolutely swept up from her solitary traveling live into Ella’s little group, something about the little girl was just so charming, she wanted to see where her journey took her.
She loves collecting the rarest of the rare, the sweetest of delicacies, there’s nothing better than traveling to a little unknown spot to get the hardest to find ingredients growing where you might not expect them, and roll into town and being overwhelmed with the local restaurants vying for her samples. She’s not opposed to finding shiny things as well, but something about food, it entices her. She loves providing for a good meal. She’s a bit of a shit cook though.
Iosefka isn’t exactly guarded with her feelings, but she’s not open either; it comes with being a merchant, she gets her feelings across in a sly sort of way. But she’s found a family with Ella’s group, a place she doesn’t have to hide her blunt rudeness. And in traveling, found new love with Minerva. The two are quite a pair of old gays.
Thomasin - Dubwool - she/her - lesbian Black - cis woman - age 23
The first to be recruited to the great quest across Galar in hopes of taking the Championship title, Thomasin is exactly what you’d expect of the league battler. She trained for years hoping to get picked up by someone in the circuit and show off her skills. She’s always down to fight and dominate in the field, and prove her worth. Not that her worth needed to be proven to Ella, who was happy to accept someone so eager. Even happier to call her a friend! Thomasin felt kinship with her right away and the two set off with pure confidence. She didn’t shy away from a League fight, and she certainly didn’t show fear when facing down a god.
Outside of battling, she (secretly) is a dedicated poet and songstress. She can’t sing, but she loves writing music and ballads, about grand adventures of pirates, and heaty thrists between ever gallant knights and fair princesses in the midst of complicated politics. She’s been working on her magnum opus for quite some time, an epic combining all her favorite things to write about… in that it’s still a work in progress. She’s got the characters, the world, she just doesn’t know how they fit together!
Thomasin and Ella are nearly inseparable, they’re always running around, full of energy and love and they can tumble down in the grass covered in stains and laughing without a problem. She lets Sybil in on their love, the three youngest getting along swell. And she won’t lie, she is slightly interested in Maverick from Graves’ team. (She just might have a thing for knights.)

Daryl Dixon + romantic gestures
Tumblr media
Daryl’s always taking care of people, but there’s no one he takes better care of than Carol. He’s always doing little things for her, some of them completely platonic with no ulterior motive than to help, support and comfort his BFF Carol. although on some not so rare occasions, there’s no mistaking that some of his actions can be interpreted for what they really are - romantic gestures.
Daryl Dixon is actually a pretty sensible/sensitive guy, which coming from someone with an abusive past and complete lack of experience when it comes to relationships and expressing his feelings, is shockingly surprising. Plus, it’s the damn apocalypse, there’s no time to court a woman, but consciously or not, that’s exactly what Daryl’s been doing for the past decade. I really think sometimes he’s completely clueless he is actually doing it until he becomes too self-aware, showing some vulnerability, shyness and even awkwardness. However those romantic gestures just come naturally to him when he’s around Carol.
The most painfully obvious romantic gestures by Daryl Dixon after the jump...
The shoulder massage
Tumblr media
Carol is uncomfortable, her shoulder hurts, and without thought Daryl simply offers to massage it for her. He’s so distracted by the ease the two now have with each other that he only notices the intimacy boundary he just crossed when Carol intensely looks back at him and smiles. “Pretty romantic,” she comments. Yes. Yes, it is. Daryl did that. He becomes aware of exactly what he is doing and what it could mean, but since he’s not ready for any of that, he backtracks. Carol’s teasing jokes aren’t unwelcome but he really doesn’t know how to respond beyond the cute, smiling “STAHP.”
The sanctuary hug
Tumblr media
As soon as he realizes it’s Carol approaching the group, Daryl completely forgets himself, everybody else around them and runs to literally sweep her off her feet. This is the first time Daryl actively seeks physical contact on a deeper level with another human being on the show. It’s a huge turning point. Do I need to say more?
The protective/chivalrous act
Tumblr media
Daryl always acts as a protector of those who need the most, but he subtly and unconsciously acts extremely protective of Carol even knowing she is damn capable of protecting herself. Daryl will have Carol’s back on every occasion and physically stand between her and potential danger, like when they first encountered Father Gabriel or when Noah put her in danger. He will offer her food/water, make sure she is sleeping and she is ok. He may act like a crude rude redneck around anyone else (pissing in the corner, manhandling people, beastly chugging spaghetti), but not around Carol. There’s so many examples of Daryl continuously doing the apocalypse equivalent of opening the door for her. Daryl’s chivalry is reserved for Carol. She may know him better than anyone else, but he really wants her to see the best version of himself.
The water jugs (part II of the chivalrous act)
Tumblr media
Yep, Daryl’s got no game whatsoever, but he did try to be smooth, showing Carol that the redneck can be a real gentleman, and that’s progress. Even though, Daryl is already carrying as many water jugs as one can safely carry, he offers to take one of Carol’s too. There’s no logic to this gesture that ends with Daryl facepalming in embarrassment when he lets one of his jugs fall out of his hand to land at Carol’s feet. Carol’s face is priceless. He gets a teasing smile and probably should take that as a win considering her state of mind in that moment.
The food tray with flower (part III of the chivalrous act)
Tumblr media
Something as simple as leaving someone a tray of food with a flower would have been a perfectly casual act. But we’re talking about Merle Dixon’s brother, the one who considered himself a nobody before the world went to shit. Daryl, the guy who eats raw squirrel/possum with his bare hands, took the time to pick a flower to decorate the tray of food he carefully left at Carol’s door. Is there anything more romantic in the middle of the damn apocalypse ffs? I still can’t believe we were robbed of watching Carol’s expression when she realized he had done that for her right before she’d tease him about it. But Carol wasn’t exactly in the right frame of mind to voice her appreciation for these small grand gestures.
The compliments/teasing
Tumblr media
When Carol needs an ego boost, Daryl is there to remind her she’s a good shot, she saved them all at Terminus, and she’s got a whole lot more to offer, but her place is with them/the group. She is needed. He has been slowly learning to tease/flirt with Carol through the years. Daryl, too pragmatic for the frivolous things of the past, lets Carol know she looks good in pink. He’s also quick to let her know her soccer mom style is so not her. “You look ridiculous.” Recently, they have crossed into teen love territory with their competitive flirty games of kill the walker or hit the can, while relentlessly taunting each other. This new playfulness between them resulted in an exchange of gifts- the friendship bracelet and lucky acorns, - they obviously both cherish.
The unconditional support
Tumblr media
There’s absolutely nothing Daryl won’t do for Carol - from babysitting her kid to letting her know he could and would never hate her no matter what. Daryl will defend Carol against Rick, Tyreese, Gabriel, Magna, and whoever else. If that wasn’t enough, he was also there for her, holding her during the two worst moments of her life - losing both of her kids, Sophia and Henry. And he continues to stay by her side through anything and everything, even when she’s on a reckless revenge mission. “I’m the one you tell. Me.” Daryl wants to help her, but Carol is not able to open up to him and yet it does not stop him. “I wanna be there for you.” After Carol crossed every line and pushed all of his limits and you think he’s had enough, Daryl is still reassuring her everything is gonna be alright. “You still got me.” This is LOVE, not platonic love, it’s the ‘you are under my skin’ type of love that is forever.
The need to comfort
Tumblr media
The skittish Daryl, who was afraid of any and all human contact when we first met him, is now completely gone. He’s grown so much and he’s finally in a position to provide emotional comfort and to express it through physical contact. He has done this with Judith and Connie too, but Daryl’s weakness (and strength) is Carol and her emotional well being is his priority. The best way he found to express this is to hug her whenever he feels like she needs it the most - from finding her at the savior’s compound, checking up on her at the creepy house in the woods, trying to bring her back to think about the future they can still have, to reassuring her he’ll always be there for her. Daryl is no longer shy about pulling her in for a big full body hug, and sometimes I wonder if he’s not doing it for his own sake too. I mean who can ever resist a teary eyed Carol!?!
The desire to spend time together
Tumblr media
For someone who isn’t used to express his wishes/feelings, Daryl has been making an effort to let Carol know how much he enjoys spending time with her and her alone. He started with a timid “I don’t like not seeing you” to openly ask her to come home and tell he needs her to stay and not isolate herself again. “Otherwise I’ll have to punch holes in all them boats.” This quickly escalated when Carol suggested they could stop fighting and leave it all behind. The idea the two of them could just get on the bike and go, run away together, has been deeply seeded on Daryl’s mind and he alludes to it few times through the last season. “We have a future./New Mexico’s still out there.” Daryl is finally ready. Carol just needs to catch up.

🟊⟅⸉ IM GONNA TALK ABOUT NOVAVERSE CYM AND WHAT HAPPENS AFTER CAUSE  I HAVE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS LETS GO ⸊⟆🟊
During the final confrontation with White Diamond, not only were the CG’s unable to help Steven, they were turned against him. If the B-team had come in at that moment, they would’ve been turned against him, too. Can you fucking imagine? Seeing your family and friends slowly being possessed? Screaming, howling in agony as they’re turned against you? And you can’t do anything to stop it? And all you’ve got to back you up is your human friend who the person controlling everyone else thinks is disposable? And will not hesitate to try and kill her?
And you’re just a child?
Yeah!!! Steven doesn’t just end up having nightmares about being ripped apart from his gem once this is all over! He also has nightmares about the White Puppets. He had to see them turned! Every adult figure he’s ever trusted and loved had been turned against him by a villain who LITERALLY TRIED TO KILL HIM NOT EVEN MINUTES LATER. LIKE. WHITE DIAMOND DID THAT, KNOWING THAT THE ‘HUMAN CHILD’ PINK WAS ‘HIDING IN’ WOULD PROBABLY, IF NOT UNDOUBTEDLY, DIE.
“I’m tired of this shit, Pink. Time to end it and kill the organic parasite so you can’t run from your problems anymore.”
This is why Steven’s relationship with White Diamond in NOVAverse will be far from canon. He will always be scared of her!! AND THAT’S THE TEA!
As for the attempted murder, Steven barely remembers what happened when it comes to getting his gem removed and seeing his other half. Because when his gem was taken out it was, uh, very bad. Like,, from a gore standpoint. He only remembers vague feelings and images. Both halves experienced the same event, but from their own separate perspectives. One half was bleeding out, though, and your memory kind of takes a back seat when you’re LITERALLY DYING. So Like? He remembers it? But it’s mostly one sided, through his gem half. And that’s why it feels so bizarre when he tries to remember what happened. It feels like an extreme case of out of body dissociation.
Meanwhile, Yellow and Blue and the CG 3 couldn’t remember anything. They didn’t know what was happening, just what they were feeling as White was controlling them. It was severely emotionally and physically painful, and that’s all they knew! So they had no idea what happened, and the crystal gems freaked out when they were freed from White’s control and saw the state of their kid. Because there was still blood!! Everywhere! All over him! And Connie! Since she had to carry Steven over to his other half while he was BLEEDING OUT WITH A HOLE THE SIZE OF HIS FIST IN HIS GUTS.
And these two kids were too relieved and in shock and generally traumatized to answer their questions! They couldn’t even begin to process what exactly had nearly happened to him. Nova had already started to dissociate as soon as he was whole again? Cause his brain was like: ‘Haha gonna just black most of that out and go numb to protect you and keep you functioning through this hellish experience lmao.’
Considering he was almost killed for like the 12th time in his 14 years of life, there are VERY obvious reasons as to why he began falling into a state of dissociation, but what he started dissociating from first is deeply rooted in what happened to him. The first thing he dissociated from was his feelings. See, after his human half sustained serious damage, guess which half has to kick into higher gear to keep him alive and functioning after going through awful trauma?
The gem half. Which is well… Numb. We see that PINK!Steven literally cannot process emotion other than the intense, overwhelmingly negative ones. That sudden outburst, the literal grief and rage of a young god that is sick and tired of everyone wanting his mother to be alive over him. Quartz (That’s what I call Nova’s gem half) didn’t hesitate to strike at all of Nova’s loved ones. He had no attachment. He was doing what he needed to do to protect himself and his other half so they could be whole again. Everyone else was an afterthought.
And that’s how you know Quartz is different. Because the human half, and even as a whole, Steven puts everyone else first. Human Nova (who I call Universe) is literally bleeding out and he’s crying out for his other half to stop because he’s hurting them. But that half is a part of him. And it’s a part he’s been needing to get in touch with for a long time. Considering Steven puts others before himself even to his own detriment, and the reactions of his human half only solidify this fact, if his gem half was anything like that, Steven could have died. He couldn’t afford to strain or distract himself trying to help or protect others. He needed to help himself. Save Steven. That was the objective.
And even as two halves are united again, the gem half is still more or less handling the reigns because of how straight wrecked the human half is at the time. It’s still working to protect himself as a whole. And the first sign of this emotional change is shown in the first thing he says to white after she tried to murder him.
“I am a child. What’s your excuse?”
See, now that he’s been reunited with his other half, he has all the emotions and feelings his human half provides, too. So he’s able to actually lay down some sick burns and common sense without going absolutely apeshit and creating craters with his screams. And this boy didn’t leave quietly with ‘If you let everyone else be whoever they are, maybe you can let yourself be whoever you are, too.’ No. That didn’t quite happen in NOVAverse. Yanno what happened? Yellow and Blue confronted White first, and since she had yet to regain her composure, she was shaken and defensive.
They almost started fighting all over again. They were all terrified and scrambling in fear of the unknown. Until White’s attention was on Steven again. Because, who is this little creature supposed to be if they aren’t Pink??? What the fresh fuck is going on?! Now, we all know PINK!Steven is Mcfuckin Pissed. The gem is back-loaded with thousands of years of emotional turmoil and trauma, most of which isn’t even his own. And this is related to WHY he initially goes off on the diamonds, too.
Because he goes off on them defending Pink Pearl.
Steven had to relieve through so many of his mother’s memories of abuse, and her painful memories of regret regarding what happened to her best friend??? So to actually see Pink Pearl okay and looking like herself again was so important to him. He didn’t just go 'welcome back’ and pat her on the shoulder, HE HUGGED HER AND HELPED HER TO HER FEET. HE WAS IN TEARS. He walked her over to the CGs and said, “ You’re coming with us. ”
LIKE. SHES BEEN SUBJECTED TO MENTAL AND PHYSICAL TORTURE FOR +8,000 YEARS??? GET HER AWAY FROM WHITE. And when White managed to regain her composure and what he was doing caught her attention, she asked him what he could possibly be doing taking her pearl? That’s when Nova went off.
“ She was never yours. She was my mother’s best friend and you took her away and turned her into a puppet and used her as an emotional manipulation tactic to keep my mother under your thumb.
You have kept her like this for thousands of years. It’s time she comes home with us so she can finally start to be herself again. Far away from you.
Die Mad About It.”
Boy put his foot down not just on that, but about his mom and why she left, and why he came here in the first place, that he needed White’s help. And everyone was in such shock and was so overwhelmed and lost because of what just happened that they listened to what he had to say and they did what he told them to! They didn’t know what else to do or how to move forward now that their worlds have been turned upside down!
The night they got back to Earth, the diamonds had to hang around for a while because Steven and Connie are a mess and the CG’s have to take care of them before anything else happens. They have to get them checked out (thanks Dr.Maheswaran.) It was determined they were both in shock, but Connie wasn’t too badly injured. Steven, however, spent the night in the hospital due to blood-loss. He was in enough pain that he had to take it easy and mostly stick to staying in bed. It was fine, as he was majorly exhausted and slept like a rock.
His nature as a demi-gem allowed him to heal faster, but the human half was still seriously damaged. He has to take painkillers and not be too physical for a while. He also has a sicknasty scar around his gem because it was ripped out so that’s Neat. When he uses his powers and his gem glows, you can really see the scarring. It looks something similar to what it looks like when his body comes into contact with destablizers. (He decides to wear bigger t-shirts from now on. He doesn’t want it to be exposed, and he doesn’t want his family to see it)
Then, the next day was the big Bubble Bath. They were all up late, so the healing party happened the following afternoon. Once he was cleared, they checked him out of the hospital, and went straight to the fountain to meet up with the diamonds and finally cure corruption. The water from the fountain helped him heal more, too, so he was feeling better already. He loved meeting all these new friends and was so relieved it was all over. But after a few hours, as it usually is at parties, he just kept talking to so many people and getting distracted and, god, he just couldn’t leave.
Yanno? You just keep trying to leave a party but someone or something keeps sucking you back in. All the people there. How loud they all are. Using his voice becomes exhausting. Thinking becomes exhausting. People talking to him becomes like nails on the chalkboard? Suddenly, everything is so irritating and blurry and painful and so, so loud he feels like he’s going crazy. And when he finally has a quiet moment to himself to be mindful of his own state he’s like, “Oh. I’m having an anxiety attack in slow motion and probably experiencing sensory overload. Cool.”
He’s so mentally overwhelmed and burnt out that he just felt himself having a meltdown at ¼th the speed and knew it would speed up or blow up if he didn’t leave. They had to take him home and he just went to bed. From that day on, for another week or two, Steven is under the constant watch of the Crystal Gems and doted on. He didn’t particularly mind some affection, because he was just so relieved to be home. To be safe. To be alive. Understandably, his family and friends were worried, of course they were. How could they not be, with the state he was in after that fight?
He looked like a dead boy walking, clothes and limbs absolutely bloody. They hadn’t the slightest clue what happened after White Diamond took control of them, and they could only look to Steven for answers. Steven always told them he doesn’t really remember what happened, which is only partially true, and they say that since then, he hasn’t seemed like himself. They say that in the aftermath, that he acted strange and cold, that now he seems ‘far away’ and is too quiet.
While that was true, it was only the case at a certain point because Steven found it harder and harder to be around them when they looked at him like he could die at any second and talked to him like they want to scrape the inside of his skull with a spoon.
See, Nova is struggling with his emotions a lot more now, in terms of emotional detachment and his literal demi-god power showing through in his personality a bit more? He was BORN a fusion, but reflected his human half more than the gem half for so long because he wasn’t in touch with gem stuff for the first 10 years of this life.
This is why he couldn’t use his powers for a long time. But NOW that he’s come so far and has seen his gem half for what it really is, seen himself for who he really is, it’s changed the cognition of the human half. So now that they're whole, the gem half and all the Diamond Powers are like, ‘Hello, I am here now. I am also you.’
And both halves are struggling to balance the whole self out again. This is why his Pink Power™ is more obvious from this point onward. It’s the “Light of his gem shining through”, as White Diamond put it. Now, Steven himself doesn’t know this, so he can’t put his finger on why it’s so hard to talk, why he feels distant, not only from his family, but his own feelings.
He needs time alone to work through them, to try and understand what exactly happened, and why he’s feeling so odd. At times, he feels simply… indifferent to everything, some kind of numb. But there is another uncommon feeling that frightens him more; Anger, it rises within him frequently, so much so that he almost feels bad about it when it does. He was never one to feel this way so easily before.
Not to say he doesn’t have things to be angry about, to be emotional about. He’s angry because wasn’t even allowed to leave the house by himself for a whole week. He hadn’t seen Connie since they got back, and it seems that he could never get enough time with his father, the only other person who being around would make it easier to breathe. Every conversation with the gems eventually leads to being about what’s wrong, the questions Steven couldn’t answer, that he doesn’t want to answer. It’s hard to express this when they’re each being their own ways of overbearing about his well-being, and his anxiety is off the charts.
The question of the Diamonds and what they were going to do, how they were going to continue, looms over him. It’s such a source of his stress that he has as much trouble falling asleep as he does staying asleep the whole night through. He has to know what’s happening. What they’re doing. He couldn’t just leave them be and expect things to not go back to how they were before. At times, he feels like he has to go back to Homeworld, but how could he?
Especially if he told his family what happened to him? Steven knew that if he did, that they wouldn’t let him, and who knows what else would happen. Truthfully, he’s afraid they wouldn’t see or treat him the same anymore. He feels like he has to be okay as soon as possible so he can do what he feels needs to be done, but the longer this goes on the more he feels like he’s having a meltdown in slow motion.
The peace he was hoping to have after going through such a harrowing time is yet again out of his reach… and it’s getting harder and harder to swallow his slowly boiling frustrations.

Breaking the News and Her Heart
A sequel to The Worst Possible Time
If there was one thing that Mabel Pine was known for, other than her eccentric personality, it was her positivity.  Normally, when a person tries to stay positive for a long period of time, it usually ends with them just being drained out and reverting back to whatever neutral mood they were in.  This was not the case with Mabel Pines.  For some unexplainable reason, it seemed like the girl had an unlimited well of positivity that she could tap into at the drop of a hat.  Not just that, but it was also highly contagious, so she always produced this aura that made most people around look more on the bright side.  Of course, Mabel had her somber moments, or there were times she had to be serious for the appropriate situation.  However, these moments usually didn’t last very long and before anyone knew it, she would be back to her old optimistic self again.   There were a lot of constants in the universe, and Mabel’s endless positivity was just one of them.
It was a skill that was especially useful during these trying times.  For the first few days after she and Steven had barely escaped Homeworld, Mabel was absolutely devastated when Dipper didn’t return with them.  It was almost to the point where her famous unending positivity was at risk of permanently fade away.  However, things changed when Dipper did miraculously return to Gravity Falls, only as someone completely different.  Stonemason had caused endless havoc to the small Oregon town in his quest to essentially kill Dipper, but Mabel saw it in a different light.  After the initial shock had passed, it was like a fire was ignited in her soul.  She had just found out that her twin brother was alive.  He was under some kind of mind-control albeit, but he was still alive.  From that point, Mabel’s positivity returned as she was determined to find some way to bring her brother back.  No matter how long it took or how much effort it took to snap Dipper out of it, the girl was on a mission.  This determination spread to Steven, Connie, the Gems, Stan and everyone as the quest to rescue Dipper had begun, with Mabel in the lead.
That was exactly what Mabel was doing that afternoon as she and Steven wandered around the lake.  Mabel had convinced the young Gem help her scout the town to see if they could find where Stonemason was holed up.  Her hopes were that maybe if they could catch the assassin off-guard it would give them a better chance to snap him out of whatever trance he was in.  Steven happily agreed to come along with the girl today, mostly to provide some protection incase things got violent.  They decided to spend the day searching the lake first, but they couldn’t find Dipper anywhere near the lake.  While this was somewhat disheartening, Mabel knew that there was always tomorrow to search again.  The pair were about to head into town when Amethyst suddenly showed up to tell them that they were needed at the Shack immediately.  Mabel could have sworn that Amethyst seemed more distant than usual, but the purple Gem retreated back to the Shack before they could ask further question.  With no other reason to not accept the Gem’s request, Steven and Mabel innocently made their way to the Mystery Shack to see what was going on.  Unfortunately, both of them were unaware of the earth-shattering news that they were about to receive.
As the two kids made it back to the Shack, Steven slowed down as he began to ponder more about what exactly what was going on.  “Mabel,” he asked Mabel.  “Why do you think Amethyst called us here?  She seemed a little bit…off.  Like she was distant or something?”  The girl turned around to look her best friend and saw the worry in his eyes.  She gave him a simple smile and did her best to reassure him.  “Steven, don’t worry too much, okay?  Grunkle Stan probably just wants to talk to me about how I’ve been pushing myself lately with finding Dipper.  But never worry!  I know exactly what to say to reassure him and before you know it, we’ll back to saving my bro-bro again!”  Steven could help but smile at the girl’s enthusiasm as he gave a determined nod.  The two kids finally went inside the Shack to see what Stan had exactly wanted with them.
Mabel was admittedly surprise when she saw that not only Stan was in the living room, but Ford and the Gems as well.  What was even weirder was that they had looks that seemed rather odd to the girl.  Garnet’s expression was stoic and stern, which wasn’t exactly out of the ordinary for the Gem leader.  Amethyst was just like she was at the lake, looking downtrodden and avoiding eye contact.  Pearl was looking at Mabel, although it was a look of worry and concern.  Ford was the most peculiar, he had on a neutral look, but Mabel could have sworn she saw tear stains around his eyes.  And finally there was Stan, who just looked tired in general, but gave the girl a small smile.  With everyone in the room looking so serious, Mabel realized that this was a bigger problem than he thought.  It looked like she would have to put on the “Mabel charm” to put everyone at ease.  Meanwhile, Steven saw everyone in the room and realized something was very wrong.
“Uh, heya pumpkin, how’s it going?” Stan said trying his best to break the tension in the room.  “Heard you’ve looking real hard for Dipper, right?”  Mabel put on a proud smile and put her hands to her hips.  “Yep,” she said enthusiastically.  “Been looking high and low for him around the lake.  Don’t worry though, I dragged Steven along just in case Stonemason gets all crazy!”  Steven gave a small nod to confirm this.  “Have you…found anything yet?”  Ford asked carefully.  Mabel’s smile faltered a little bit, but her voice was still full of enthusiasm and confidence.  “Not yet, Grunkle Ford.  But there’s always tomorrow!  Dipper would never give up on me, so I plan on never giving up on him!”  Mabel’s rather optimistic thought was interrupted by a disgruntled groan from Amethyst.  “Can we just tell her alright?  The suspense is killing-“
“Amethyst!” Pearl quickly hushed the purple Gem.  “We need to be delicate with this.”  Now Steven was really worried right now.  The only times that the Gems acted so hesitantly about something was when something disastrous happened.  “Guys,” the young Gem asked.  “Is there something going on with you guys?  You all look…really worried all the sudden.  I know you guys are still worried about Dipper, but it looks like there’s something else going on.”  Garnet placed a steady hand on Stan’s shoulder and gave him a firm nod.  The conman understood the silent message and let out a heavy sigh.  “Mabel,” he said, staring directly into his niece’s eyes.  “There’s some that we need to talk with you about.”  The conman had worked himself up for this moment, and he wasn’t planning on backing out now.  It was time to rip the bandage off.
However, before the conman could speak up, Mabel put up a hand to Stan’s face.  “Hold that thought for one second, Grunkle Stan,” the girl stated in a matter-of-fact tone.  “I know what you’re going to say.  You, Grunkle Ford and the Gems are all worried that I maybe pushing myself a little too hard with finding Dipper.  Well, don’t you worry about me, because I feel fantastic!  Sure, I’ve spent less time eating and sleeping since I’ve been busy with trying to figure out how to save Dipper, but I’ve been keeping myself loaded on sugar packets and Mabel Juice, so I’m always full of energy!”  To prove her point, Mabel started to twirl around a few times to demonstrate her excess energy.  Stan cringed at his niece’s antics, almost hurting him on how oblivious the girl was about what was really going on.  “Mabel…” he said, trying to get the girl to be serious but ultimately failing.  “Yep, big ball of energy, I am!  Sure, I have one or two major crashes and random time intervals, but it rarely happens!  It’s all gonna be worth it when we save Dipper from whatever mind junk that mean Yellow Diamond put him under.  Then me, him, Steven and Connie can all have our summer back again!  It’ll be just like the old days, solving mysteries and all that!  It’ll be awesome!  Sure, me and Dipper will have to go back home again soon, but there’s always next summer too!”  The situation was becoming worse and worse by the minute.  Pearl was about to speak up but was stopped by Garnet.  The Gem leader shook her head at her comrade, implying that this was something Stan had to do himself.  Meanwhile, the conman was getting frustrated by this, so he attempted to take a more direct route instead.  “Mabel…you’re parents….they’re…” Stan tried his hardest to say, but was interrupted once again.  “Oh, Mom and Dad?  Yeah, I guess it’ll be kinda hard to explain Dipper’s…new arm when we get back to California, but it won’t change anything!  Mom and Dad will still love Dipper for the lovable dork that he is!  It might take some time to adjust, but I know Mom and Dad will be patient and supportive.  They’re some of the greatest parents around, and it’ll be nice to have Mom’s cookies, listen to Dad’s terrible jokes and just be there for each other like a big, happy famil-“
“MABEL!” Stan grabbed both of Mabel’s shoulders and looked at her straight in the eyes.  “Your mom and dad passed away last night.”
At that single sentence, Mabel’s mind went completely blank.  It was as if all of air, color and sound in the room, leaving the girl in a cold, empty void for what seemed like five minutes.  Pure shock was all able to be expressed on her face.  Her mind kept repeating that sentence over and over again, desperately trying to see if she misheard her grunkle..  But alas, there was no mistaking it, she heard what she heard.  As for Steven, his shock was almost as big and Mabel’s.  The young just believe that his best friend’s parent…just passed away.  After what seemed like an eternity of silence, Mabel finally found the ability to speak again.  “W-W-What…What do mean they…passed away.
The difficulty of the conversation was starting to get to Stan, as he backed away from his niece and couldn’t even look at her.  Thankfully, Ford decided that it was his turn to talk to Mabel about this horrible situation.  The scientist took a knee in front of his niece, gently looking into her eyes.  “Mabel,” he slowly began.  “Your mother and father died in a car accident last night.  Your parents were on their way home from an outing when…a truck driver who was completely intoxicated crashed into the side of their car.  They died on impact, there was nothing the paramedics could do.  I…can’t express how sorry I am.”  As Mabel heard the tales of how her loving parents met their untimely end, tears began to naturally well up in her eyes.  Her mind was still finding hard to grasp the cold reality she was in right now.  “No….no that’s not possible!  My parents would never be so reckless!  You’re lying!  You’re all just LYING!”  Mabel’s voice went from somber to outrage, as if she was angered that her family and friends would even try to trick her like this.
“Mabel, we’re telling you the truth!  Why would we make you think your parents are dead?” Amethyst sharply said, trying to snap the girl out of her denial.  The tears finally broke pass the eyes and were now streaming down Mabel’s cheeks.  She couldn’t deny that the purple Gem had a point.  Whether Mabel wanted to believe it or not, Stan was telling her the truth.  Her parents were dead and now she was officially an orphan.  As she came to terms with this thought, Mabel began to break down into tears.  No one in the room knew exactly how to comfort the sobbing girl, but the white Gem decided to at least try.
“Mabel,” Pearl said she approached the poor girl.  “I know you must be devastated right now.”  The white Gem slowly extended her hand to gently wipe away the tears.  “In my many years on this planet, I’ve lost many of my comrades.  So, I know that you must have a sort of…empty feeling in your heart.  But please believe me when I say that it will get easier with time and patience.  Just know that-“  Pearl was interrupted when Mabel suddenly pushed Pearl’s hand away from her.  “Easier?  EASIER?!  My parents are dead!  How am I ever going to get over that, Pearl?!  Do you have any idea what this means?!”  The girl paused to see if anyone in the room would dare to take a guess at what she was referring to, but there was complete silence.  “I just lost my twin brother and now I find out that my parents are gone.  Why is all of this happening to me?  Did I do something so terrible that I deserve all of this?!  Why is my family suddenly being taken away from me?!  WHY DOES THE UNIVERSE WANT ME TO BE ALONE!?”
Before Stan could say anything to comfort his niece, Mabel rushed out the door, heading to parts unknown.  The living room was left in an awkward and somber silence as no one in the room knew exactly what to say after Mabel’s outburst.  The silence continued until Stan finally let out a tired sigh.  “Well, that could have gone better.” He said, trying to break the tension.  While Amethyst put her hand on the conman’s shoulder in support, Steven was still awe-struck at what had just happened.  His mind began racing on how exactly he could help Mabel in a time like this.  In the past, Steven was no stranger to providing emotional support to his friends whenever things got too intense during one of their adventures.  However, the death of a family member was something entirely different.  Did he really have to the ability to properly comfort Mabel from such a loss?
“Steven…”  The young Gem’s train of thought was interrupted as he was addressed by Garnet.  He looked to the Gem leader to see what wisdom she would offer him this time.  “Go to her, Steven.  I know right now that you’re doubting whether you can support Mabel during her time of need, but you still need to see her.  She needs someone who can convince that she’s not alone, and I can’t think of anyone better than you.”  Garnet finished off by giving Steven a small smile.  “Kid,” Steven then turned to Stan.  “I don’t know if this will be useful, but tell Mabel that she’s going to be living here in Gravity Falls with us.  I’m not gonna dump her in some rundown orphanage.  Just…use that “charm” of yours and I’m sure she’ll listen to you.  I’m counting on you, kid.
That was all the reassurance the young Gem needed as he gave a firm nod and made his way out the door.  Ford walked next to the Gem leader and gave her a concerned look.  “Do you…think he’ll be able to make Mabel smile again?” the author asked.  Garnet didn’t give a response right away and adjusted her shades.  “It will be difficult,” she said.  “And I’m not sure if it will be immediate.  But I believe does have what it takes.  That boy knows how to mend a broken heart.”
Mabel didn’t know how long she had been running for, and frankly, she didn’t care.  She was too sad or too angry to care about anything at the moment.  All she wanted to do was to just run away from thought that another part of her family had been taken from her.  She knew that was physically impossible, but that didn’t stop her from trying anyway.  Unfortunately, Mabel didn’t pay attention to her footing, so she ended tripping and getting a face full of sand.  When Mabel got back up and brushed off her face, she noticed that she was back at the lake.  The late afternoon sky colored the lake with a beautiful mix of reds and yellows, creating a scene from an exquisite painting.  Feeling tired front her sprint, Mabel decided to just sit down on the lakeshore and look into the horizon.  However, this did little to dull the pain that was aching in her heart.  The girl was starting to realize what was happening to her.  First it was Dipper, and now it was her beloved parents.  Her family was being taken away from her faster than she realized.  She could only wonder how long it be before she would be left all alone.
“Mabel!”  The girl turned around to find that Steven had followed her and had eventually caught with her.  “Go away, Steven,” she said turn back to look at the horizon again.  “I don’t want to talk.  Just…leave me alone.”  That was something Steven couldn’t afford to do.  The young Gem knew that his friend needed him now more than ever.  The poor girl was already very sensitive, so Steven knew he had to trend carefully with this.  “Listen Mabel,” he said, still feeling a little out of breath.  “I know things are really hard right now.  But please believe me when I say I’m here for you and I know what you’re going through.  You know that I lost my mom when I was really young.  So…”  Steven trailed off when he heard Mabel let out a sad sigh.
“Steven, that’s completely different.  You didn’t even get to know your mom before she…died.  But I knew Mom and Dad for my whole life!  Birthdays, holidays, family outings, there were so many special moments with them that I’ll never get to experience again.  I’ll never get to see their smiling faces again or feel the warmth of their hugs.”  Mabel hugged her knees to her chest as fresh tears began forming in her eyes.  “What if we’re not able to save Dipper?  What if he’s stuck as Stonemason forever?  Do you realize what that means, Steven?  It would mean that almost all of my family would be gone.  And I really hate to admit it, but Grunkle Stan and Grunkle Ford are really old, and they won’t be around for long.  After that, I won’t have any family left, I’ll be alone.” The tears broke free from Mabel’s eyes again as the thought of being the only surviving member of the Pines family.  “Steven, just leave me alone.  I might as well just get use to spending-“
Mabel cut herself short when she felt two, warm arms wrap around her.  She turned around to see that Steven had pulled her into a hug, but there was something else.  She looked into the young Gem’s eyes and found only comfort and concern in them.  For a moment, Mabel felt safe as she just looked into Steven’s eyes.  After a few moments, Mabel broke down crying again, only this time, she started weeping into Steven’s shoulder.  For the next 10 minutes, Mabel just continued to sob into the young Gem shoulder, causing his shirt to get rather damp in the process.  However, this didn’t matter to Steven, as he continued to hug the poor girl and gently brush her hair to comfort her.  After what seemed like hours of hugging and crying, Mabel started to calm down.  She then looked to the young Gem again, her eyes red from all of her weeping.  Steven gave a gently smile and wiped the tears from her eyes.
“Mabel, I want you to listen to me closely.” He said calmly.  Mabel gave a small sniffle and let the young Gem say what he needed to say.  “I know it feels like that you don’t have any family left, but that’s not true.  Mr. Pines told me that you’re going to be living here in Gravity falls with us.  He promised that he would never put you in an orphanage.  Mr. Pines and Mr. Ford might be old, but I have a feeling that they’re going to be around for a long time.”  This did bring some comfort to Mabel.  Gravity Falls was always like a second home to her, so at least she won’t be into an unfamiliar environment.  However, there still doubt in her mind about the future, but Steven wasn’t finished yet.  “And you should know that there’ll always be a place for you at the Temple as well.  As far as I’m concerned, you and Dipper are a part of my family too.  Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl all agree with me when I say that you are family.  So, just know that you’ll never be alone in this world, not as long as we are around.”
Sadness was still saturated in Mabel’s heart, but she was still moved by Steven’s touching words and drew him in for another hug.  Knowing that she still had family in the form of Steven and the Gem gave her a sense of safety from the crippling fear of being left alone in the world.  However, there was still one concern that was plaguing her mind.  “Telling Dipper about…this is going to be really difficult.” She said in a disheartening tone.  Steven responded in an equally saddened tone.  “I know,” he said.  “But we’ll worry about that when we finally save him.”
With that, Mabel closed her eyes and leaned her head on the young Gem’s shoulder again.  As much as she wanted to smile at this reassuring thought, she couldn’t.  Her heart was still hurting, and she didn’t feeling forcing on a fake smile.  But in the end, that was okay.  Because she had other people that could be positive for her.  She didn’t have to carry the world’s optimism on her shoulders all the time.  She could just sit back and silently enjoy the optimism that other provided for her.  But she knew that this was only temporary.  After an appropriate amount of time of mourning and grieving, she would be able to smile at the world again.  Even if she didn’t have her parents anymore.
After all, she would always have family to smile at.

Analysis of Stevenbomb: Wanted
There be spoilers under the cut
Ok, so first off I want to say that I am very pleased with this strong narrative Season 5 has started with and am dying for the next episode(s) to come out even though we have none scheduled as of yet. (I swear to goodness it better not be an entire month before we get another episode I’ll be frothing at the mouth and dying by then).
I’ll go ahead and skip analyzing Stuck Together since it aired early and most of the internet has already seen it. Having said that, let’s proceed to The Trial.
While there’s a lot to say about this episode, I’ll try my best to summarize it as just WOW.
True to her word, Rebecca has done it again by giving the fandom exactly what it has been waiting for since Jailbreak Season 1. A meeting of the Diamonds with Steven acting as a key factor. To be honest, I was honestly surprised we were getting straight to the point with this episode, seeing how Steven just sorta decided to surrender at the last moment in I am my Mom, but I’m grateful the Crewniverse wastes no time throwing us into the hellfire of a 6,000-year-old grudge against Rose Quarts as we finally get to see exactly what roles the Diamonds play on Homeworld.
I absolutely adored Zircon in this scene; trying her best to be a good lawyer and losing her cool, and yeah I get the show’s ‘logic’ is supposed to for kids, but honestly her dialogue had me raising an eyebrow or two as she tried to state her case, and I think even Steven knew she was getting nowhere with her argument.
Speaking of that, the attitudes that the different Zircons and Pearls have towards their own kind ruled under different Diamonds was an interesting little bit of information that clearly shows gems don’t seem to find ‘compassion’ and ‘friendship at the top of their list; at least when it comes to other gems ruled under another Diamond. (I also loved how Y-Pearl typed her entry in, while B-Pearl drew pictures. :3)
Adding Lars in for the trial was an interesting touch that I think surprised just about everyone, seeing how up until now he hasn’t really been significant to the plot other than for comedic relief and furthering Steven’s own maturity. I like how he’s just sorta dragged around by the gems, yet is still allowed to do his own thing to an extent. (So long as he doesn’t interfere with whatever the gems are doing). Seeing how he helps keep Steven grounded and focused on the mission I think is what makes him an important plot piece in the episode, as otherwise I think Steven would be very overwhelmed without a direct goal in mind. (And that goal is saving Lars and getting out of there.)
Blue Zircon really makes her debut after the brief court recess, as she finally gets her act together after Steven provides her with some actual evidence, and completely turns the tables around as she goes as far as to accuse the Diamonds of sabotage based on the factual evidence and eye witness accounts.
Here’s something I found funny. Eyeball as a witness. She had no real reason to be there, and frankly made herself look even worse when she admitted Steven healed her during the trial. Why would a Diamond shatterer heal an enemy gem? ;) Still, it was a nice little touch the Crewniverse added for comedic effect and I loved it all the same.
I’ll wrap it up by saying that Yellow seemed pretty mad to be accused of treason, though I have my suspicions that she’s not the real culprit here, nor is Blue. (Though dang Blue’s emotion manipulating abilities are something to be afraid out.) It might be White, since she’s not been seen yet, and she may not even exist I’m just spit balling, or it might be a color switching/shapeshifting alien/gem? We’ve never seen before.
Point is, Rose is pretty much confirmed to not be the killer of Pink Diamond. I’d bet my two cents that she loved PD, and that Pink was actually trying to help humans. :O
Off Colors
Oh you sneaky writers, you ;)
I really like how the title not only foreshadows Lars’ death, but is also a slang term for ‘defect’ on Homeworld, which I never guessed either would be canon in my wildest dreams.
So, we basically meet 3 new gems (8/9/10 ½ ??? If you count the fusions and whatnot) and Lars becomes a hardcore hero who sacrifices himself to save his new friends.
I have to give props to Lars for doing what he did, seeing how he’d basically been a yellow-belly this entire time and only ran away from his problems. Honestly I expected him to do the same this time around, but when I watched him interact with the defects I realized that he saw something he’d never expected to see in those gems. Himself. And why is this significant?
Let me put this in perspective for ya,
Have you ever looked at an old photo of yourself doing something either embarrassing or something that reminds you of a darker time in your life and go, “If only I had a time machine and could go back and tell myself not to do ‘x’ or that life will get better if you just hang on a bit longer… Then life would be so much better for the both of us.” This is Lars seeing his past-self reflected in these, scared, defenseless gems, who have no one to help them.
So this is why Lars decides to become courageous and be the hero he’s always wished he could be but was too afraid to act, and goes ape sh*t on the robonoids because he knows he’s the only line of defense they’ve got.
So ya, needless to say I’m very proud of Lars for sticking up for himself and protecting the defects from Homeworld.
(Also A+ writing for the team thinking about Lars being ‘invisible’ to the Robonoid’s scanners and using that against them! It was amazing and heroic and alkjfhdgjkdhfjgkhfj!)
Lars’ Head
So a bit of a misleading title, but understandable given it’s hard to explain what’s just occurred in a few short words while simultaneously not spoiling the episode. (Even though everyone already knows that Lars is Pink Lion 2.0 from the previous episode).
So wow, again I never expected this to be a canon thing in the SUniverse.
I can’t really express the excitement I got when Lars was revived by Steven, the team discussing death (briefly and without literally saying that word ‘death’ just ‘away from life’), and Lars is PINK now. (And has what I assume is a BA permanent eye scar, along with the fact his ear lobes are probably stretched out forever now hahahaha sucks to be you Lars! ;D)
I think Lars accurately summed up everyone’s thoughts when he asked Steven “Am I a zombie now?!?” because let’s face it, yes Lars, you are in fact a very, very, magical pink zombie. J
So yeah, let’s talk about the defect gems for a second since I totes forgot about them in favor of paying attention to my Pink Son for a moment.
We’ve got the Twins of Rutile, Rhodonite, Flourite, and  Padparadscha Sapphire (Which I’m gonna call P-Sapphire for now).
The twins are rather interesting, as they seem to be the most level-headed of the team, as well as quite possibly two of the brighter gems in the group. I just really love how they don’t seem to be all that concerned about their appearance, and more concerned about the group, which really shows how compassionate they are in comparison to some of the other characters on the show which are way more hung up on their looks than caring for others.
Rhodonite wasn’t a major shocker for me, seeing how we’ve already been filled in about Garnet’s past, but it did raise some eyebrows about how two gems fused on Homeworld and weren’t shattered right away for doing so, just merely replaced. I think theirs’s a lot more to their story the Crewniverse didn’t have time to put in, but hopefully somewhere along the lines we’ll see her again and get to know more about the two of them.
Flourite is… Interesting. Besides the obvious fact that she looks like the Hookah smoking caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland, her personality and combination of gems is so distinct from the others that it’s amazing she’s actually a stable fusion. I get the underlying theme is polyamory for her, but besides that it’s something else to see such a massive fusion remain so gentle and kind while not bickering between herself since she’s got like 6 or 8 gems… Sidenote: something interesting I wanted to point out was how slow Flourite talks when she’s speaking, and one can only assume that’s because of how many gems she’s comprised of, which is fascinating. It speaks volumes that the more gems involved in a fusion, the more time it seems to take to sync up thoughts and even actions, as demonstrated by Flourite’s behavior.
Lastly, P-Sapphire. A classic Rosalina appearance with a heart of gold. I’m really curious to know how the heck she survived this long and how she found this rag-tag misfit of gems since she can only predict the recent past, as she seems to constantly be stuck in her visions as demonstrated by her actions. Regardless, she’s still really cute and I love how eager and excited she is about everything, so hopefully we’ll get to see her character arc grow past just comedic relief.
Anyways, back to Lars. The fact that Lars is essentially a portal home is cool enough, but when Steven steps inside it’s shown he’s got his own tree in there too. So I get Rose can do plant stuff, which explains the tree on? in? Lars, but what I don’t understand is the portal power since it doesn’t seem to be connected to either of her abilities.
The fact Rebecca decided to leave the defects and Lars on Homeworld was a surprise, but an understandable one, not for the story’s sake, but because trying to fit Flourite through Lars’ hair would be a nightmare that I don’t think anyone would want to explain.
So Steven discovers he’s a necromancer and that Lion’s his undead slave pet, and then the gems and Connie and Greg all show up just in time to have a reunion and happy tears are shed. (And then Steven proceeds to eat everything in sight, prompting Greg to go out and buy the boy some more bread lol).
So much has been left out in the open, and I get the distinct feeling this is gonna be the least season for this show. L Still, I feel like everything’s gonna be amazing when we get the next episode, so for now I’m rather content. :D
