A lot of politics talk on Tumblr/Reddit seems to use political labels the same way people talk about their "hometowns".
I have family members who strongly identify with and go hard for teams from the city that our Grandparents met in, but that nobody in our family has lived in for two generations. Similarly, I'll see people who really hang on to political labels like "leftist" or "anarchist" when their politics are in no way identifiable with that label.
