Lizard.
Tumblr media
Hello there! How are you all this fine evening?
This is a story about a herpetologist, which is what I have just learned is the title of one who researches reptiles and amphibians. It is also the result of trying to include the word lizard in every sentence of a story, just because- though I have not held to that prompt in the second draft. A story where everything is compared to or is a lizard is not as good as it sounds. Don’t worry, I have spared you all.
Anyways, introducing… Lizard.
Lizard.
Aric felt cold, like a lizard might, where there was no solution besides running about and looking for sunlight. The problem with this was, unlike a lizard which lives outdoors, Aric was trapped in the dark confines of this winding passageway. Aric was in the labyrinth now, wandering helplessly about its cornerless passages and perfectly symmetrical doors. There was a monster here too, though Aric had not found that specific aspect of the labyrinth yet. He had been told it was a hairy thing, unlike a lizard at all. The piles of brown strands blowing like tumbleweeds up and down alongside him seemed to back this little snippet of information up.
Aric breathed in deeply, and heard a much, much larger breath in unison. It pushed him back towards its source, as the vacuum the breath left had to be filled by something. Aric looked behind himself in a quick glance, and saw a faint shape, an outline which seemed to somehow tower taller than the ceiling itself. The wood beams meant to hide the sky and entrap those with wings had to warp upwards in order to keep the illusion that this passageway was unbroken. This monster was much larger than anything Aric had ever dreamed of before, even beating out the whooping lizard of North Harima.
Aric guessed it was coming for him, darting forwards like a lizard on a road just feet from a carriage’s wheels. The hairy shadow gave chase, rhythmically shaking the ground as it constantly grew ever closer, each step sounding like claws on metal and stone.
Aric was deathly aware of his panting breath. There! Was that an exit? A lone ray of sunlight shone on the ground before him, a sign of new possibilities. His shoulder hit the wall as he attempted to follow the newest curve the maze threw at him, the burst of pain that signaled a new bruise reminding Aric he was no lizard. He had no scales. The sunlight may not save him.
He reached the sunlight anyways.
The End, for now.

I had a dream that I was in a cornerless white room with no windows or doors. I was stuck in it for what felt like years, begging anyone that would listen to answer to help me out. Eventually, from my own shadow, formed the silhouette of an older man with a long beard and rocking chair. He rocked back and forth and nonchalantly said “Sorry it took so long, I’ve been away for a while and had to go through all my voicemails.” I was both dumbfounded but upset, and asked the man who he was. He simply replied, “God”, as if I was supposed to already know that. He told me that since I was going to be here for a while, I could ask him some questions. I asked why we were out in an uncaring world, that if he loved us, why were we made to hurt and be hurt, why did Disease, Pain, Suffering, Wrath, grip us and never let go? If he loved us, why did he leave? He told me: “It’s simple, you needed to learn a lesson. If I tell you, you’ll never be able to learn it.”
“Well then, God, aren’t we made in your image?”
The silhouette’s brow furrowed as he gripped the handles of his rocking chair and slouched forward, now intently listening. “Yes. You’re made just as I intended.”
“Then if we are you and you are us, don’t you need to learn it too? I think you don’t know what we need to learn, or what you need to learn.”
He now had an expression of what I could only describe as surprise of an outburst of perceived repugnance. He opened his mouth to speak but I interrupted and stood up, him formed from my shadow now obvious but still towering over me from an unknown light source.
“You are nothing but a narcissistic parent that still is a child, but now wears adult clothing. You created us, with all your flaws, causing all of our hurt, but taking no accountability for your own actions. When your people are crying out for you, you won’t answer because you’re too busy cleaning their blood off your hands in your pristine sink. You may be upset with me, but if my only sin was being born in a world of your design, I have every right to be holier than thou.”
With an angry look on his face, he snapped his fingers, and I woke up. He deserved to hear it.

3. The person you would never want to meet? 4. What is your favorite word? (or words) 39. What type of music do you like? 63. Which is cooler: dinosaurs or dragons? 64. What do you think about babies? (Why can't I make paragraphs for god's sake? 😅 Anyways, have fun 😄)
3. Trump
4. My favorite word is the way Katie McGrath says literally anything as she tries to mask her Irish accent. Also, these words in this specific order: 'would you like to pet this dog?'
39. Pretty much anything really - my tastes have a weird range from broadway-classic pop/rock-instrumental-folksy alt. shit- Disney-with a side of Nicki Minaj and Florence and Paramore and all hail Carly Rae Jepsen's album "Emotion" 😬
63. I am a fantasy genre enthusiast who was heavily invested in the Eragon series in my childhood so I gotta go with dragons - but one could argue that dragons are just dinosaur cousins that breathe fire so really, how does one choose between the two?? (but still, dragons)
64. Babies are fine as long as I am not responsible for raising them or making life-altering decisions on their behalf - also I have a severe case of the dropsies so I probably shouldn't hold them unless we're at, like, the store of Soft Things and Cornerless Objects.
I'm def the queer aunt who the kid runs to when they want to rebel and introduces them to retro video games and comic book lore though.

there was a tree originally where I put the portal and I felt bad for removing it and also didn't want to leave a bare 10 block, cornerless portal in here, so I made 2 custom trees around it ^-^
it looks best from Cleo Pocosin's side but anyway (top right)

Cornered in a cornerless table...
I remember that table all too well. Its feet were curved metals and the tabletop was made of glass. The kind that has to be wiped constantly to remove the ever present streaks.
I hated it because even when it looks clean, it still smells and I usually get the blame when it does. I only ever liked using it when instead of plates, it's my laptop and books strewn around. Only when the clock hits midnight.
It's a love hate relationship actually. It's where I've been told the worst profanities, the most painful soul shattering insults, words that once uttered force me to eat with tear-clouded vision, as it turns out, tears are not allowed in the dining table. Profanities are, but tears are not.
It also bore witness to my achievements, shallow but meaningful wins. Small and quite celebrations of things that pushed me to live and try, even for just a day longer at times. It lulled me to sleep and gently wakes me up, allowing me to finish what I set out but failed to do through the night.
Ironically, even when it's meant to seat 5, I only ever liked it when no one else is around.
It was a circular table placed against a mint green wall. On the left is a console cabinet adorned with marbles and a golden tree. On its right is a stand fan, mint green, and old and creaky. In the middle of these two was my assigned chair. It's always the broken one, that's why it's placed against the wall. Held together by wires, twisted to keep the poorly welded parts in place. It only gets fixed when another one is broken, then I'd get the broken one again and again until before I left.
I remember having to ask ny siblings on either side to stand up so I can get to my seat or get away from it. Never simple nor easy, when there shouldn't be any complication at all. It's weird.

Design considerations for the construction of a contrabass.
Gamba corners are socialist realist luthiery. A simple corner for the working musician.
Violin corners are the easiest to pick up.
Busettos got them love handles. YMMV.
Cornerless/pear-shaped basses are the fastest. I'm sorry, that's just physics.
