Twelve things I noted about CR2E90 “Bathhouses and Bastions” :

Matt, at the beginning of the first episode of CR in 2020 : "We are back ! We've missed you guys, hope you've had a decent break. We have mostly rejuvenated with what time we had. Hopefully we'll catch up the rest before the end of the world !!" YIKES. PHRASES THAT DID NOT AGE WELL.

Sam reveals yet another Matt t-shirt while Matt sighs, and we learn that Sam has "four drawers of t-shirts : not all Matt, some are me." (Matt : "How does Q feel about that ?" Sam : "Hum... she doesn't need to know about those !")

The planning for TravelerCon3000 is going super great : the volcano may be or not be active, Jester doesn't know how many people will be there or how they will even get there, but at least Caduceus and Yasha will play their instruments to hype the crowd for Jester's speech.

The Mighty Nein, heroes of the Dynasty and the Empire, teleporting to the Bright Queen palace from a Rexxentrum spa they robbed blind with arms full of robes and towels. I love them SO MUCH, they're all so very chaotic gremlins

Ok so there was the equivalent of Vence in the Dynasty, working for the cult, and he pushed to have the Krin attack as a distraction under the pretense that a beacon was in Rexxentrum. Okay. And he also was the traitor who long ago gave the two beacons away to the Assembly ?? This part feels weird... and not connected to it.

Oh the reveal that the Krin forces are still under Rexxentrum, just waiting orders to maybe continue hits different, after seeing the Nein go shopping, go to an underground fight ring, and go to the spa. 4 days, huh. Nott was right !

The Sprinkle conversation is so funny, but also awful because when Laura Bailey pouts, you are forced to agree with her. I love that Travis' voice for Sprinkle is basically Macaroni Samsonite's voice but even more high-pitched and sped up.

The talk with the Bright Queen, for all tense it was, was way less creepy and authocratic than the one within the King's chambers...

And we end with a very very very bad Mighty Nein concert. How fitting.

It's so much fun watching Essek catch feelings for this friend group. a handful of episodes ago it was all "There would be nothing I would love more than to not be around you all for the remainer of this day" and now it's all "I have to admit, I'm very impressed by what you were able to push forward [with the Bright Queen]" and "Do......you all need a lift? Home?"

bonus points because he was actively deceiving them the whole episode and I just imagine him sweating bullets about his plan going to shit and the fact that he's starting to actually like these people

also can i please talk about nott kissing caleb before attempting the spell. the way he reacted. the whole cast was silent. there weren't even smiles because of the ship or anything just. it was such a sweet and at the same time heavy moment, i was caught off-guard but i also expected it. just. so good. they just love each other so much and maybe for nott, forsaking this body would also mean to forsake this affection she's nurtured for caleb for so long. she has a husband whom she loves, she has a kid. but she also loves the wizard man in whatever shape or form she learned how to during their time together, but this love is only possible when they're on the road running from or towards something, in a body that is not hers. maybe when she can finally be tranformed back, they can learn to love each other some other way. but who knows

CR2E90-Bathhouses and Bastions

Is this the most I’ve ever laughed in one episode of CR? It’s very possible. This is exactly what the dr called for after the intensity of recent events. Even the serious rp bits of it were just. Silly.

Such a sweet Caleb and Nott moment. I love how clear it’s always made that Nott is just as good at this stuff as Caleb, and that he couldn’t have done it without her. And also Caleb commenting how lucky Yeza was to have her?!? What are you saying buddy? You want what Yeza has, do ya?

Also Bless You Laura Bailey for pointing out how that whole long convo happened while they were cuddling. Two characters having deep emotional convos while holding each other, especially these two characters who were once so physically close, is just. The best.

Wow. I know that this prison guy must be Essek’s doing cause I’ve been spoiled about that, but I didn’t actually know about this being one of his crimes. It’s different somehow, because this man he’s fucking over wouldn’t be some faceless mass that you’re selling out, this guy was a colleague, someone Essek knew. And he just fucks him over and lies so smoothly about it. What a cool character.

I know important stuff went down w the Queen and all that but tbh all I can think about is the Undead Weasel. Best running joke, although sometimes the casual animal abuse does make me genuinely uncomfortable. This one was funny.

Ok I’m starting to think Laura low-key wants Caleb and Nott together, too. Or at least she’s every invested in their relationship. She asks again at the end convo here if Caleb and Nott are hugging. I love when actors pull these little added scene-setting or rp moments out of each other with their questions.

 I do this thing sometimes where I trap a blade of grass between my two thumbs and whistle through it, and I imagine the bone flute sounds pretty similar. It’s a terrible terrible sound, and I feel very sorry for the Xhorhouse neighbors, even if they’re kinda pretentious.

Consider this ridiculous theory with me:

Rudius isn’t a real moon. It’s a satellite from the Age of Arcanum that was launched into orbit by some super powerful mage group as a weapon.

Even if it’s not that, it’s important to this campaign somehow.

It showed up a lot in Episode 90. Not just in Molly’s Mirror card, but it also got mentioned in Caleb’s research on meteorites and celestial objects falling to earth? The second moon is disintegrating? Some people believe the bits of it (and other meteorites) are the souls of lost warriors returning? There are big meteorites that have been VANISHING????

AND there was Archivist Demid way back in Uthodurn who was researching the different cultural mythologies about the little moon. Interesting that he’s in a city founded shortly after the Calamity by two disparate cultures of long-lived people. There’s gotta be a lot of memory there.

Also, the Luxon Beacons are pre-Divine Gate. The group that launched Rudius could have totally used one (or more) of them somehow.

ALSO, lycanthropy in Eaxandria isn’t connected to Rudius, just the big moon. ALSO ALSO, the Moonweaver is the deity of illusion and misdirection. ALSO ALSO, a “rudius” irl is “a special wooden sword that, in the days of the Roman Empire, could be given to a gladiator as evidence of a honourable discharge.” (thanks Wikisage) Sounds like a good name for an old weapon to me.
