something so personal about two non-binary actors playing nineteen fifties lesbians

A brain worm I will expand on eventually: Lydia is deathly afraid of Cynthia’s motorbike and vehemently refused to go anywhere near it until Cynthia pointed out that Lydia holding onto her when they rode is probably the closest they would ever be able to safely get to public displays of affection and she begrudgingly made her peace with it

I've been thinking about the stabbed heart patch on Lydia's dress...
Do you think it was always the plan to have it on there or she added it more recently, after cynthia ran after kissing her before the play ??? Because the idea of lydia sitting at home sewing that patch onto her dress as some sort of way to communicate to cynthia how she felt is so heartbreaking and it's exactly the type of thing a closeted lesbian drama kid would do

merely players and all in are direct parallels of each other
“but playing’s real when you commit to danger” vs “even when the world is mad baby i’m all in”
“there's nothing that we can't feel we just got to move on in give everything without fear” vs “i know we’re both afraid but baby that’s ok”
+ the dances follow some of the same choreography
+ the instrumental melody from merely players plays during the kiss at the end

Something I need to see in season 2: at least one full episode of Nancy being the best ally and coming up with increasingly batshit excuses for why Cynthia and Lydia keep disappearing together until Cynthia is ready to tell the other Pink Ladies
