Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks....

I don't mind at all! This is an absolutely HUGE question, though, so I am going to adapt it into a meme that goes around sometimes and just do ten favorite characters from ten different media properties I love, because otherwise I am going to sit here all day frozen with indecision wondering if I'm forgetting someone, or if each character is REALLY worthy of being top ten out of all the media I've consumed in my life.

This got long, so it's under a cut!

Murderbot (The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells): One of my favorite book series! And I love Murderbot so deeply for so many reasons. It's funny! It's being adopted into everyone's found family and doing so kicking and screaming! It cares deeply about people once it allows itself too! Runner-up in this property is ART, who I love dearly, but really, it couldn't be anyone else but Murderbot itself.

Keladry of Mindelan (The Tortall series by Tamora Pierce): Kel is so stubborn and kind and very subtly funny in a lot of ways, and she's my favorite of the Pierce heroines. She jousts! She adopts everyone and every beast that crosses her path! She gets up to shenanigans with her friends! Just a joy of a character.

Johnny Jaqobis (Killjoys (TV)): I love everyone in this wildly underrated show, but Johnny especially. I've got a weakness for the quippy best-friend-of-the-badass/support character type (see also: Foggy Nelson from Daredevil), and Johnny is such a perfect one. He's funny, he's badass, he pretends to be married to two separate people in the course of the show. What's not to love?

Maia Drazhar (The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison): This book is so good, and Maia is such a good central character of it. He's so kind, so determined to be good in a position that makes it hard to be good or kind, to build connections when he's been denied them his whole life and change things nobody thinks it's possible to change. I love him!

Xena (Xena Warrior Princess): With my love for quippy best friends, you might think Gabrielle would be my favorite, but no, Xena is a competent badass searching for (and, as she goes along, finding) redemption, which is another favorite character type. She's also a badass warrior who's not at all afraid or self-conscious of being emotional and expressing affection, which is a rare and wonderful thing.

Leia Organa (Star Wars): The original trilogy trio are all close to my heart, but Leia just edges the other two out. I've just always loved her banter, how she refuses to be cowed by any situation, and her super cool hairstyles. Very much a I-want-to-be-like-her-when-I-grow-up character since childhood.

Harriet Morton (A Company of Swans by Eva Ibbotson): One of my formative romantic books. Harriet's not too different from Maia, actually, only Maia before becoming emperor and thus not having much power to effect change! She's kind and brave about loving and quietly stubborn, and she's very much in the same type as

Fanny Price (Mansfield Park by Jane Austen): Mansfield Park is nobody's favorite Austen, and Fanny is nobody's favorite Austen heroine, and yet! (I do technically love Persuasion, and probably Anne, more, but I'm not nearly as defensive of either of them, so Fanny's the one I thought of first for this list). She's very much that same character type as Harriet, and I seem to love characters who are clinging to goodness when they don't have much else to cling to.

Alec Hardison (Leverage (TV)): He's so smart and so full of fun quips! And also hot, look, I can be allowed to be a little shallow here. Anyway, I love all the characters in this show, but Hardison absolutely wins out.

Danielle de Barbarac (Ever After): This movie is full of great characters, but I adore Danielle. Determined, good-hearted, willing to carry a prince out of a forest, reader of dense tomes, what's not to love?

Danielle smiled when Henry said her name again, and she took a breath, enjoying the sound of it on his mouth. But she knew it was fleeting. He was everything, and she nothing. He had made that perfectly clear that horrid night where he said those horrid things.

Could she forgive him for it? The real question was how could she not forgive a man who was reacting to a broken heart and a betrayal of trust in one fell swoop? The answer was she couldn’t. But she didn’t know if he had fully forgiven her. What if she had broken his trust beyond repair? What would become of them then?

Then he was holding up something, and Danielle gasped as she saw her mother’s shoe. She had lost it when she had ran away, and her shoe had been without it’s match ever since.

“Where did you find that?”

She listened to him speak before feeling the tears well up in her eyes, and she turned to walk away from him and to sit down upon a rock nearby.

“It belongs to a peasant, Your Highness, who only pretended to be a courtier to save a man’s life.”

"Yes." Henry replied, kneeling before her. "I know."

Jacqueline had told him everything. And with her help, he and his parents had come up with a plan. Those two girls would be safe now, so long as he drew breath. Rodmila and Marguerite would never touch them again.

"And the name's Henry, if you don't mind."

Chuckling softly, and taking a moment to rub his lips together, Henry swallowed thickly and lifted the hem of her dress ever so slightly just so he could take hold of her foot. Slipping one of her brown leather shoes off, he slid the slippery she had dropped at the masque back onto her foot.

"I kneel before you not as a prince, but as a man in love. But I would feel like a king if you, Danielle de Barbarac, would be my wife."

One Dress a Day Challenge

We have arrived at the final day of my challenge! This is the first time I’ve actually started a challenge and seen it through to the end. And since I started this a few days in to 2021, I’m playing catch up for the last day. Here are 10 more movie costumes that I love...and they didn’t make the original list either because there wasn’t space, or the more obvious answer of me not realizing I wanted it on the list until it was too late!

So here are my final additions:

Indiscreet- Ingrid Bergman as Anna Kalman: Could find a HQ full-length pic of this gorgeous coat, or it’s matching dress...so this was the best I could do!

Ever After- Drew Barrymore as Danielle de Barbarac: There were just too many choices during the “blue month” and sadly, this got left behind.

North by Northwest- Eva Marie Saint as Eve Kendall: Love this dress and want to own it...not pictured: the deep v neckline.

The Last Duel- Jodie Comer as Margueritte de Carrouges: I saw this movie for the first time about a month ago and had to include this amazing fur-trimmed cape!

Meet Me in St. Louis- Mary Astor as Anna Smith: Same issue as the Ever After dress: there are just too many gorgeous blue movie dresses! And I love her hat.

White Christmas- Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen as Betty and Judy Haynes: I was watching this movie before Christmas and had to shame myself for forgetting about all the gorgeous dresses these girls’ wear. Betty’s black dress is unbelievable, and Judy’s pink dress is so gorgeous.

Crimson Peak- Mia Wasikowska as Edith Cushing: Honestly, I just wasn’t sure where to put this robe, in terms of color...but I just love the fact that she’s wearing an open-knit robe with fringe.

The Night Manager- Aure Atika as Sophie Alekan: So, I wanted to include this on my list originally, but I could not find any decent pictures! And then miraculously, managed to find one last week...random. But anyway, the movie has so many gorgeous maxi dresses and green dress with silver trim is *chef’s kiss*

Funny Face- Audrey Hepburn as Jo Stockton: This movie has almost too many gorgeous outfits to choose from!! This is actually one of my favorites, but I sadly forget about it sometimes, because it’s not included in the modeling montage.\

1. Kaydel Co Connix, Star Wars Determined, principled, ready to jump into action, but also ready to admit wrongdoing when that action is based upon incorrect assumptions. Found family is the answer.

2. Kuriyama Mirai, Beyond the Boundary Awkward and intense at the same time, and a hopeless romantic.

3. Isolde(Iseult/Yseult), from the various legends Devoted in love, sometimes beyond the point of reason.

4. Tristan (Tristran in the book), Stardust Unsure of the truth of their desire, but gains confidence through the completion of a quest.

5. Luthien Tinuviel, Tolkien’s Legendarium Will challenge death for the sake of a beloved, and are more powerful than they appear. Abiding love of nature.

6. Danielle de Barbarac, Ever After Confidence comes only after reaching the lowest point, they’ve always been strong but need an external event to make them realize.

It's so funny watching adaptions of historical romances when you have been taught a little Regency -to -Edwardian etiquette, because though I would not pass muster myself, it still allows you to be pleasantly scandalised by things that just don't matter at all nowadays, but do often go 'wrong' to make things more relatable to the modern audience. Graduating from my post-grad program and applying to be able to work in my field.

A speech therapist who teaches high school English and History would probably be a dream job. That or a traveling author.

Matched. I’d go without socks if I had to wear mismatched. That being said, as long as they are the same type of socks, I’m fine. I’ll wear two left socks if need be, but not two different types.

Autumn.

The next year I read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and that was a life changing experience. Before that, everything’s kind of hazy. I know I had obsessions, but they didn’t last.

7: What is the most important part of a book, in your opinion?The ending usually decides how much I like a book, but each part is important in its own way - it’s harsh to separate them.

11: What book fandom do you affiliate yourself with the most?I am, at base, a Potterhead and a Trekkie (and the original TOS novels were a big part of my induction to Trekdom.) Right now I’m very much into the Queen’s Thief books by Megan Whalen Turner.

Alternate ending: Danielle and Jacqueline escape together and make their own way. @starsallalight

Danielle had arrived in the dead of night at the manor, she had no home to return to. But she hoped at least that she still had Jaqueline as a sister.

So when the younger of her two step sister's appeared holding two bundles of previsions, Danielle hugged her and took Jaqueline's hand before the pair disappeared into the night.

Over the next several months, Danielle and Jaqueline worked together to scape the money together to open their own dress shop in Paris.

Both girls knew how to sew, and Jaqueline was an absolute artist when it came to embroidery, so it only made sense for them to work together.

Within the year, they were one of the most sought after dress makers in Paris. Fine young ladies flocked to their shop for the finest gowns to show off at court.

Danielle was so proud of her sister, she had come so far from the spoiled daughter of a baroness.

They were sisters now, and that was all Danielle wanted.
