i think i have a friend who plays exactly how i feel like vi would play

she would be like "adventure time" and travel thousands of blocks out for no reason. and shed invite people all the time like "adventure?"

once i accepted my friends invite to adventure and i ended up accidentally being in 3 vcs at once so i was minecraft catatonic for most of the travel, in which he dragged me around in a boat. by the time i escaped my mind hell he was gone and i was in the middle of fucking nowhere

leif would go fucking nuts on the redstone. i think he would be decent at building as well. but hed be a Fucking Nerd about redstone

kabbu i think would like caving. he would have a humble house but hed easily be the richest person on the server. he probably has a dedicated side house for his horse

danspectorboy: Kabbu likes grinding for items and may have crashed their server by sheer quantities of animals. Leif likes to explore and probably doesn't know how crafting works. Vi tries to build farms and none of them work . Probably turns creative mod on and pretends to have gotten the items legitimately. NONE of them know how to build so they live on a dug out cave with like. Three beds by the entrance and a two by one tunnel that runs in front of incredibly disorganised chests and kabbus mine entrance (he digs straight down)

i already answered 4 so not gonna answer that one, but...

4. Tell me about your favorite will-never-finish-it fic? Why won’t it be finished?

now the problem with this question: requires i ADMIT i will never finish something. it's admitting defeat, it is. anyway, before i settled on the fic i have now, i went through several iterations of an apocalypse fic for hermitcraft. (i need you to understand this is an idea i've had very strongly for a while.) one of the iterations was written from this vaguely omniscient narrator voice and had evil xisuma as the main character and it is VERY cool. i had some banger lines in that wip. it won't be finished, though, because ex's character has gone new places, what i actually want to DO with an apocalyptic fic has radically changed, and honestly i just lost interest.

that being said.

You really don’t need to stay here longer, if you are the sort who reads stories to find out the ending. There it is; the end. However, if you have not, then you understand well that how a story ends really doesn’t matter much at all. Without context, an ending doesn’t mean anything. You understand that the exciting part of stories is the why, and the who, and the how. The good part of stories really has always been the middle bits.

So if knowing the ending does not deter you, if the terrible place these things go does not stop you, if having this horrible spoiler doesn’t cause you fear, then perhaps it is best to start at the beginning once more.

The beginning is—as it is exactly one-seventh of the time—on a Tuesday. In one week, Evil Xisuma will end the world.

those lines right there? god i wish i had somewhere to put them. god i wish they were in a fic i was still interested in finishing. THAT RIGHT THERE IS A PLOT HOOK.

23. Would any of your stories make a good movie or TV series? Tell us about it, particularly what might stay the same or change?

.........see in many cases i'd argue "no". stuff like black box relies pretty heavily on being in a written medium for some of how the story works, and a lot of them are specifically paced or written presuming that they're being read. they also tend to focus pretty heavily on the emotional state of the characters over physical things that are happening. the narration is a really important part of them! plus a lot of them aren't particularly long, so they don't have enough to hook for a whole movie or tv series.

the wip i'm working on, the mumbo apocalypse fic... maybe? and MAYBE san luis? but frankly a lot of how all of them work i have no idea how you'd adapt them to screen, and would almost argue they just. would not work that way.

that being said seeing visuals for like, consequentialism? that would be pretty cool.

Violet Xefros:

Huge supporter of his local sports team. They’re very successful; Xefros likes to think his strategy guide is behind it but really he just bought out the best players from all of the local teams.

He also runs a fantasy arena stickball club; it’s not very popular, to say the least. His D&D group loves him, though.

Very concerned with his public approval score. Pores over pages of “How To Manipulate Trolls into being your friends and lord over the people” religiously.

He’s in a ska garage band. He plays the drums still; he’s really good.

Generally goes with the flow of his friend group; he gets little clenches in his gut when he knows he’s doing something Not Quite Right, but he doesn’t know what to do about it yet. There’s nothing in the strategy guides about finding and sticking to your morality, unfortunately.

We are, of course, taking this opportunity to elaborate on some previously unestablished lore - or, rather, established lore not yet written on the blog, because we've been DEARLY enjoying tossing our sona mechanics at the wall while doing brainstorm-with-friends chatter. To host a god isn't a light thing, you see. Even if it's only partial. Anyways Discord screenshots, some minor chatter, and slightly more art below cut.

NECESSARY CONTEXT: The Mantis God may possess any mantis it pleases, provided that they are a mantis. This notion may be a bit "loose" - as hosts who are purely mantises, by the modern standard, may be less than ideal. The small must always struggle with being small. Ambush predators, well-developed claws and carnivorous diets, taur-like body schemes, the sorts of predators who can lay in wait for ages before striking, may be viable - being an insect will aid the chance of viability, but not ensure it. With sapient hosts, more abstract features may be key.

The Mantis God's possession will favor the cunning, the keen, the level-headed. Patience is a virtue, as well as ruthlessness - if a character can be reasonably anthromorphized as a mantis, they are likely to be viable for possession. In order to be possessable, a host must retain some resemblance of dignity, reservation, poise - though they need not keep this face at all times, "most of the time" is enough.

As such, Siffrin is not necessarily a viable host. They can be "piggybacked" on, certainly, but not fully controlled - they will remember everything that is done under possession, they may resist or refuse actions, they are fully present in their own body and simply dealing with a backseat driver rather than dealing with a "full" possession.

A partial possession, though not a full possession, does cause some physical effects - a gold tint, in the iris, or a line of gold around the edges of the pupil - but it does not cause full effects. The claws that generally indicate a host, rather than sprouting from the host's shoulderblades, will instead originate from somewhere behind them, sprouting from some unknown point outside of the field of view of the viewer. These will always end just "behind" the host, from the point of view of an observer, regardless of angle viewed, and may appear at multiple different angles with multiple observers - though whether they can be viewed at all largely depends on if an observer is the sort of person likely to be capable of viewing what's functionally just an abstraction of the possession process.

They can, and leaving the canon acc behind also stops it from enforcing whatever personality your character have (takes a while to build your own again tho), but canon status comes with a heavy discouragement to leave all that story behind. The players themselves may rationalize it differently, but the result is always they stick with it unless something really big happened that forces them to ditch it.

For Johnyathan in particular he's afraid of starting over and losing a large and defining chunk of his life

I think you'd be forced out of your own account and that account turns into an npc. Time to get another account and chase them down!

If they made a separate acc for the character they mention as apart from themselves, then yes. That's an NPC

can a player have an unusual trait or two without being canonized? like fins? or antenna?

Oh boy they can, and they can even emote and move a little but they can't function like real antenna. In the 12 years the universe has been around skin artists have only gotten more batshit with their designs (Marigold's is coded to display both emotions and symbols like question mark and arrows, and John's ears and tail moving like a cat's isn't the work of canon, it's just coded into his skin). Not sure how they managed to remap human sensation to do that or make floating objectheads not feel weird, but they do
