A civilizációvesztés nyolc alapelve

"Távolodjunk el kissé emberi nézőpontunktól, és váljunk oly kérlelhetetlenül magabiztossá, mint a szikla és az óceán, melyből e világra jöttünk."

1. A társadalmi, gazdasági és ökológiai felbomlás korát éljük. Körülöttünk mindenütt annak jelei láthatók, hogy az életmód, ahogyan élünk, hamarosan a múlt részévé válik. Őszintén szembe kell néznünk ezzel a valósággal, és meg kell tanulnunk együtt élni vele.

2. Elutasítjuk azt a meggyőződést, amely szerint korunk halmozódó válságait technológiai vagy politikai "megoldásokat" igénylő "problémák" összességére lehet redukálni.

3. Hisszük, hogy e válságok gyökerei azokban a történetekben rejlenek, amelyekkel magunkat áltatjuk. Szándékunkban áll megkérdőjelezni a civilizációnk alapjait jelentő történeteket: a haladás mítoszát, az ember központi szerepének mítoszát és a természettől való elkülönülésünk mítoszát. Ezek a mítoszok azért roppant veszélyesek, mert elfelejtettük már, hogy valójában csak a képzelet játékai.

4. Újra tudatosítjuk a történetmesélés jelentőségét, amely több mint puszta szórakoztatás. A történeteken keresztül szőjük ugyanis a létező valóságot.

5. Nem az ember a bolygó értelme és célja. A művészetünk azzal a kísérlettel kezdődik, hogy kilépjünk az ember alkotta buborékból. Őszinte érdeklődéssel újra kapcsolódva a nem emberi világgal.

6. Olyan alkotásokat és művészeteket értékelünk majd, amelyek a valósághoz és a jelenhez kötődnek. Irodalmunkat túl sokáig dominálták azok, akik az élet lététől elszakadt elefántcsonttornyokban léteznek.

7. Nem fogunk elméletek vagy ideológiák kidolgozásában elveszni. Szavaink őszinték és elemi erejűek lesznek. Életteli alkotásunk kosszal és verejtékkel jár majd.

8. A világunk vége, ahogy azt ma mi ismerjük, nem a világ végét jelenti majd. Együtt, őszinte bánatból merített szabad elszántsággal találjuk meg a valódi reményt, az utakat, amelyek az előttünk álló ismeretlen világba vezetnek."

I so deeply respect the work of Rewild Portland: their work around ancestral skills, the deeper understandings and co-mingling with “invasive species,” their collaborations with Indigenous land-tenders and native language speakers, and their deep resistance to how “rewilding” has become yet another gate-kept trademark for western white people to monetize and escape from the real work of staying with the trouble. In the face of climate chaos, post-truth politics, and growing tribalisms, it’s clear that liberalism’s old structures are unraveling. Drawing on resilience ecology, Stephanie Wakefield suggests we understand such phenomena to be indicators that we are entering the Anthropocene’s back loop, a time of release and collapse, confusion and reorientation, in which not only populations and climates are being upended but also physical and metaphysical grounds. Anthropocene Back Loop takes us on a journey though different responses and manifestations of the back loop, exploring urban resilience infrastructures, post-apocalyptic imaginaries in fiction and critical theory, and a range of everyday practices from survival skills and physical fitness to experimentation with one’s soul. Rather than returning to liberalism’s safe operating space, what is needed and what can be seen in many contemporary practices, Wakefield argues, are forms of experimentation geared toward charting autonomous modes of living within the back loop’s new unsafe operating spaces. Such efforts often let go of old frameworks, hubristically experiment with new uses, cultivate an allowance for the unknown, and embrace a confidence in exploring one’s own pathways. What these iterations suggest is that the back loop, long imagined in the singular, is spiraling out into myriad trajectories. After all, if we take seriously the idea that liberalism’s single world order is unraveling, we have the opportunity - one many have long fought for - to create our own new codes, if not new worlds. Being in the back loop means that we have already crossed various tipping points, and that in doing so, everything from social practices, technologies, and truth to plants, animals, and places have become shaken out of their normal frameworks. We are free to move on new planes.

A Mélyalkalmazkodás négy fogalom (4R), és az ahhoz kapcsolódó kérdések segítségével igyekszik megmutatni, hogy milyen lépések és feladatok várnak ránk az alkalmazkodás folyamatában:

• Megtartás: Hogyan tartsuk meg azt, amit igazán nagyra értékelünk, és nem szeretnénk elveszíteni?

• Elengedés: Mit kell elengednünk ahhoz, hogy ne rontsunk vele a magunk és mások helyzetén?

• Visszahozás: Mit kell visszahoznunk az életünkbe ahhoz, hogy segítségünkre legyen az érkező nehézségekkel szembeni küzdelemben?

• Megbékélés: Kivel, vagy mivel kell megbékélnünk, miután valóban ráeszméltünk a mulandóságunkra?

"Annak ellenére, hogy csak limitált lehetőségeink vannak a természet szén-dioxid elnyelő képességének ösztönzésére, a bolygó maga segítségünkre van a folyamatban. A Föld globális “zöldülése” a század kezdete óta jelentősen lassította a szén-dioxid növekedését a légkörben. A növények gyorsabban és nagyobbra nőnek a magasabb hőmérséklet és szén-dioxid szint miatt, ezáltal a lélegzésük által kibocsátott szén-dioxid csökken. E hatásoknak köszönhetően az éves szénkibocsátás légkörben megmaradó része 50%-ról 40%-ra esett vissza az elmúlt évtizedben. Ugyanakkor a folyamat hatása korlátolt, mivel a szén-dioxid abszolút szintje továbbra is emelkedik, és 2015-ben átlépte a 400 ppm-es lélektani határt. Az évszakok átalakulása, a szélsőséges hőmérsékletek, áradások és szárazságok egyre negatívabban érintik az ökoszisztémákat, ezért fennáll a veszélye annak, hogy a globális zöldülés hatása idővel csökkenni fog."

More than 40 million adults in the U.S. suffer from a mental illness.

Victims of natural disasters are at an increased risk of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and suicide.

25-50% of people exposed to an extreme weather disaster are at risk of adverse mental health effects.

Up to 54% of adults and 45% of children suffer depression after a natural disaster.

Forty-nine percent of the survivors of Hurricane Katrina developed an anxiety or mood disorder, and 1 in 6 developed PTSD. Suicide and suicidal ideation more than doubled.

After a record drought in the 1980s, the suicide rate doubled, including more than 900 farmers in the Upper Midwest.
