The player in LISA: The Painful is frequently put into situations that greatly impact their continued experience during the larger game, ranging from deadly games of chance or even bargains to avoid unwinnable circumstances. In addition to gaining and losing party members based on these situations, the player character themselves can experience severe consequences in the form of their arm(s) being taken from them, which permanently alters their stats and limits their actions during combat for the remainder of the experience, making the severity of these situations all the clearer on continued play.
