I have a theory that the biggest (and most number of) festivities are in the colder months (season of 'death'/'hibernation') to make winter less depressing for us as a society and to have something to look forward to despite the social shutdown the winter brings.

sometimes u read abt situations in far away places and almost reflexively draw parallels to situations that you are more familiar with.
i was reading a post abt how wildfires in canada have caused a significant jump in AQI readings and the number was like 500-something. when i first moved to london, i was told by everyone that the air would be so polluted and terrible and everyone has breathing problems. i arrived here and saw an AQI of 30 or something.
and that is truly wild to me. in 2018, when i was accompanying a friend one november evening for her diwali shopping in delhi, i remember seeing AQI readings that hit 700 in and all of NCR was enveloped in thick smog. further away from the city and i saw AQI readings of 999 on highway info boards. the only reason it didn't go higher was because that was the extent to which AQI could be recorded/measured. and it's such a commonplace, every year thing that no one bats an eyelid anymore.
yes, these are all reminders that blink at you dangerously in bright red over and over again. that all of this shit is extremely dangerous with immense short and long term health consequences. that people all over the entire world are suffering. i know the origins and causes of such poor AQI differs in different contexts, but it's also so obvious that pollution unequally impacts developing countries.

SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS BAN ON FIRECRACKERS FOR A POLLUTION-FREE DIWALI: A LEGAL PERSPECTIVE
Tumblr media
The Supreme Court has announced that upholding the ban on the sale and use of firecrackers across the country.
The Supreme Court has announced that upholding the ban on the sale and use of firecrackers across the country has far-reaching implications, not only for public health and environmental protection but also for legal precedent and the interpretation of fundamental rights. The court’s ruling, which was first imposed in 2018, has been challenged by several petitioners, but the court has reaffirmed its position, citing the well-documented health and environmental hazards associated with fireworks. The court emphasized that the right to celebrate Diwali does not supersede the fundamental right to clean air and a healthy environment.
LEGAL STATUS QUO
It must be noted that bursting crackers lead to a violation of Fundamental rights along with the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981; The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986; and The Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. regulations. The decision has significant legal implications, not only for the regulation of firecrackers but also for the interpretation of fundamental rights and the application of environmental protection laws. The court’s ruling sets a strong precedent for future cases involving conflicts between individual rights and environmental protection.
The decision also highlights the importance of scientific evidence in informing legal decisions. The court’s reliance on scientific studies on the health and environmental impacts of firecrackers demonstrates the importance of evidence-based policymaking.
Moreover, the court’s decision has far-reaching implications for environmental jurisprudence in India. The court’s recognition of the right to a clean environment as a fundamental right and its emphasis on the precautionary principle and polluter pays principle have strengthened the legal framework for environmental protection in the country.
The Supreme Court’s decision is a major victory for public health and environmental protection. Firecrackers are a major source of air pollution, particularly in urban areas. They release harmful pollutants such as particulate matter and sulfur dioxide, which can cause respiratory problems, heart disease, and other health problems.
In addition, firecrackers can cause noise pollution, which can disrupt sleep, increase stress levels, and even cause hearing loss. The Supreme Court’s decision will help to reduce air and noise pollution and improve the overall quality of life for millions of Indians.
CASE LAWS SUPPORTING THE BAN
The Supreme Court’s decision is grounded in a strong foundation of case law that has established the importance of environmental protection and the fundamental right to clean air. Key case laws supporting the ban include:
Arjun Gopal vs. Union of India (2018): In this landmark case, the Supreme Court recognized the right to a clean environment as a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. The court also emphasized the precautionary principle, which states that even in the absence of scientific certainty, if there is a risk of serious or irreversible harm to the environment, precautionary measures must be taken.
M.C. Mehta vs. Union of India (1987): This case established the principle of polluter pays, which holds that the polluter must bear the cost of pollution. The principle has been applied to various industries, including the firecracker industry.
Vellore Citizens Forum vs. Union of India (2011): In this case, the Supreme Court recognized the right to a healthy environment as a part of the right to life under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. The court also emphasized the need for environmental impact assessments to prevent pollution.
BALANCING THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL
The Supreme Court’s decision is also a significant development in the interpretation of fundamental rights. The court recognised that the right to celebrate Diwali is a fundamental right, but it is not absolute. The court held that the right to celebrate Diwali must be exercised in a manner that does not infringe upon the fundamental right to clean air and a healthy environment.
This decision is a reminder that all rights must be exercised in a responsible manner. The right to celebrate Diwali does not give individuals the right to harm the environment or the health of others. The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to have a significant impact on future cases involving conflicts between individual rights and environmental protection. The court’s ruling sets a strong precedent for future cases and will likely be cited in many future legal challenges.
The decision is also a reminder that the courts have a crucial role in protecting the environment. The courts can use their power to enforce environmental laws and regulations and to hold individuals and businesses accountable for their actions.
CONCLUSION
The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the ban on firecrackers is a landmark ruling that prioritizes public health and environmental protection while upholding fundamental rights. The decision is a testament to the court’s commitment to upholding the Constitution and ensuring the well-being of all citizens.
By upholding the ban, the court has sent a clear message that public health and environmental protection are paramount. The decision is expected to have a significant impact on air quality during Diwali, particularly in urban areas, and contribute to a healthier environment for all.

★ Trade experts explain why no Hindi or Pan-Indian film clashes with Salman Khan’s films at the box office: “He’s 100% an ORGANIC star; clashing with him can prove SUICIDAL”!
Nov 7, 2023
Salman Khan’s Diwali release Tiger 3 is nearly a week away and the excitement is tremendous. What’s interesting is that it’ll have a solo release of sorts, as no other Hindi or Pan-India South film is clashing on the same day. In fact, Salman Khan has not faced a clash since 2010. The last time that happened was when his 2009 action super-hit film Wanted was released on the same day as Rani Mukerji-starrer Dil Bole Hadippa.
Dabangg (2010), Ready (2011), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Dabangg 2 (2012), Jai Ho (2014), Kick (2014), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Sultan (2016), Tubelight (2017), Race 3 (2018), Bharat (2019), Dabangg 3 (2019) and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023) released with no competition. Antim (2021) faced a collision with Satyameva Jayate 2 (2021) but then it didn’t feature the superstar in the lead.
Other stars haven’t been that fortunate. Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale (2015) and Raees (2017) were released alongside Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Kaabil (2017) respectively. SRK is at his best position arguably right now and yet, his next film Dunki will have to share screens with Salaar on Christmas 2023. Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha clashed with Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan last year. Salman’s last few films have not done well and yet, no one is ready to come on the same Friday as him.
We asked trade experts about this rare phenomenon. Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “He has a huge following and is a darling of the masses. The business he has generated over a period of time in mass pockets is phenomenal. Though he has had a rough patch, he's the pied piper of Bollywood.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan, in agreement, exulted, “Salman is a very big hero of the masses. He has always had such a huge fan following; Shah Rukh Khan ka aisa following ab bana hai. Aamir Khan never had such a mass pull. Salman’s craze is one of a kind. Hence, filmmakers are wary of clashing their films with him. Itna bada hero hai, kaun takkar lega iske saath?”
Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, remarked, “Salman is the only superstar who people want to see on screen. He has the maximum on-screen superstardom out of all the actors. It’s a very critical factor. He’s also not on our social media every time, going to malls, opening ribbons, dancing, etc.”
He continued, “Unfortunately his films have not worked as he hasn’t paid much attention to the storytelling, packaging, direction, etc. He has that power that if he gets these things right, then there’s no stopping him. That’s why many are wary of clashing with him as they know that at least in the opening weekend, their film will get butchered.”
Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise cinema hall in Jaipur, explained, “Salman Khan is an action hero. When no one was doing action, he was the only action excelling in this genre. Somewhere, his confidence shook and he also did non-action films like Tubelight (2017), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), etc. Only Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) worked in this regard. But even when his films were gadbad, they still made Rs. 100 crores plus. There was a time when the hit films of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn did Rs. 100 crores. But Salman’s flop films do Rs. 100 crores even today! And his hit films have done more than Rs. 300 crores. It’s thanks to him that the industry realized the true potential of a Hindi film. Hence, clashing with him can prove suicidal.”
He also said, “He’s 100% an organic star. Even Sunny Deol is.”
Girish Johar added, “If he moulds himself to the sensibilities that cater to his fans and also provides intelligent content, then sky is the limit. I think Tiger 3 will do well. It ticks all the right boxes.”
Taran Adarsh also said along the same lines, “Tiger 3 being a brand and essaying a role that is much-loved, I am sure it’ll have a great run and a huge opener.”

This year could have been different. Just before Diwali, it rained, clearing the air, not to “good” but at least to “poor” quality. The air quality index (AQI) stood at 218 (0-50 is considered good but Delhi is so polluted that 218 is deemed pleasant). Heartened by the “low” AQI, the supreme court braced itself for Diwali by reminding residents of its 2018 nationwide ban on firecrackers. But some of the city’s 33 million residents ignored the ban. By Monday morning, the AQI in many areas had soared to 850.

National Adoption Month....
Here we are again, its November already! This month in the adoption world is so special, its national adoption month. This month always brings so many mixed emotions! In November of 2016 Trey and I began our first adoption journey which resulted in us being united with our little fire cracker Jackson Levi in 2018! Fast forward to November of 2020 we then started adoption journey number 2, which we are still currently on.
If you're any good at math, that makes this month 3 years since we have been on this India adoption journey. A lot has happened in 3 years, we moved states, we were officially matched with our sweet boy in India last August, our 2.5 year old is now almost 5.5 years old. We have been stretched, tested, tried, strengthened and have waited...A LOT!
The last update was back in September that said we were waiting to be filed into the High Court. Well at the end of September we were filed! Praise the LORD! We still are in the "pre-admissions" stage and waiting for an actual court date so that we can finally be issued our adoption order. We would love to have a court date sooner rather than later. The High courts will soon be closing for a few weeks in honor of Diwali. This is a MAJOR Holliday in India. Diwali is November 12th this year. So basically if we don't get a hearing in the next week and a half it probably won't happen until the end of November or really even December.
Our hearts ache. The wait has been VERY LONG. But our God still reigns! Honestly HE is the one that keeps us going. HE is the one where we draw our strength from.
So please, we ask for your prayers that we may receive a court date VERY soon! Our village is BIG, our God is BIGGER! we are praying for a miracle!
~Happy National Adoption Month~

The Story of Aadyaa
Tumblr media
Witness the remarkable transformation of our founder
Sayalee Marathe, from a proficient and accomplished SAP consultant to a visionary and passionate jewelry designer. In 2013, while Sayalee was fully immersed in her career as an SAP consultant, which had spanned over eight years with renowned firms like IBM, Deloitte, Siemens, CSC, and Capgemini, her journey took an unexpected turn. During her business trips to the United Kingdom, she discovered her profound love for jewelry making as a hobby. She began crafting exquisite jewelry for herself, friends, and family using ready-to-make beading kits.
Upon her return to India in 2013, after an international stint, Sayalee decided to nurture this budding hobby of hers by exploring the world of jewelry design with locally available beads. Encouraged by the overwhelming support of her loved ones and the enthusiastic response she received on her social media accounts for her simple yet elegant creations, the idea of AADYAA was sparked. Thus, Aadyaa's Facebook page was born, marking the brand's initial foray into the online social sphere.
Sayalee embarked on her journey by designing these beaded creations and showcasing them at nearly 150 exhibitions. This endeavor laid the foundation for  first loyal customer base, a testament to the brand's subsequent growth over the years. When Aadyaa's Facebook page reached 25K followers, Sayalee made a pivotal decision to dedicate her full strength—both her intellect and physical efforts—to the brand. Consequently, she bid farewell to her SAP consulting career and committed herself entirely to Aadyaa.
With the establishment of the official website, Aadyaa continued to explore and experiment with various materials and jewelry-making techniques. In 2015, Aadyaa's e-commerce operations found solace in a quaint 180 sqft studio in Pune. This space became an integral part of the brand's identity, and although Aadyaa has since relocated to a larger space, the memories forged and the encounters with remarkable clients in that studio will forever be cherished.
In 2016, with the grace of the divine and the elements aligning in their favor, Aadyaa unveiled its inaugural collection, aptly named "Itihaas." This collection introduced never-before-seen designs of traditional Maharashtrian jewelry in pure silver, breathing new life into the realm of handmade silver jewelry. The collection was embraced and adored by all, fueling an upsurge in orders and fostering the expansion of Aadyaa's operations. Soon after, new team members began joining the ranks.
Towards the end of 2017, Sayalee's husband, Jaydeep Hingne, became a vital part of Aadyaa as its co-founder. Jaydeep, who had been a pillar of support for Sayalee alongside his regular job, brought invaluable experience and expertise from his previous roles at esteemed organizations such as KPMG and Thomas Cook. His contributions in the areas of compliance, legal affairs, contracts, vendor management, and operations were instrumental in nurturing the fledgling business during its nascent stages.
Today, Aadyaa thrives with a dedicated team of 14 individuals working seamlessly together, all sharing the common aspiration of elevating the brand to new heights on the global stage. In 2018, we proudly established our flagship store in Pune, which has become synonymous with eagerly anticipated events like the Earrings Festival, Rakhi Specials, and Diwali Festival. These events have garnered widespread acclaim, attracting patrons not only from Pune but also from around the world.

★ Dubai: 3-ft social media sensation bags role in movie starring Salman Khan!
2 Aug 2022
"I am so happy and excited to be making my Bollywood debut with Salman Khan. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that one day I would do a movie with such a huge star. I will work hard to prove that the faith reposed in me is not misplaced," Rozik, 17, told Khaleej Times from Mumbai where he's currently doing some shoots.
"I am so happy and excited to be making my Bollywood debut with Salman Khan. I will work hard to prove that the faith reposed in me is not misplaced."
'Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali' began shooting on Salman's farm on the outskirts of Mumbai in June but its title was changed to 'Bhaijaan'to make it appear as a spin-off of the actor's 2018 smash-hit 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'.
Bhaijaan (elder brother) is also the affectionate name fans use for Salman.
The UAE-based International Fighting Championship Management (IFCM), which is managing Rozik, said they are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support for the diminutive singer in Mumbai.
Earlier, Rozik was seen posing alongside Salman Khan as well as rendering the popular 'Dil Diwana Bin Sajna Ke Mane Na' number from the 1989 blockbuster 'Maine Pyaar Kiya' which catapulted the actor to instant stardom. Another video shared by IFCM shows Rozik and Salman humming 'Papa Kehte Hain Bada Naam Karega' from Aamir Khan's romance musical 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'.
Rozik, who received the UAE Golden Visa last August, was born into a poor family of gardeners in the Bangkent region of Tajikistan.
He suffered from rickets— a skeletal disorder that stunts growth among children.

Walmart Vriddhi Program: Unlocking Indian Entrepreneurial Potential!
Tumblr media
Walmart’s Vriddhi program is focused on helping Indian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) expand their domestic capabilities. That’s not quite as easy to do as it is to write. One entrepreneur who understands that truth intimately is Chanda Sharma. She’s the owner of the Delhi Gift House in Delhi, where she sells gifts for special holidays and occasions. Her story, and her success, are triumphs. But not without tragedy. Chanda started her business alongside her husband in 2018 just after the pair welcomed their first child. They were a team. Chanda handled the marketing, photography and product listings. Her husband interfaced with vendors and ensured the supply chain stayed well-oiled. In 2021, during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chanda lost her husband to the virus. She admits to fearing for her future: She was alone in the midst of a global pandemic, facing the demands of motherhood, a crippled economy and vendors who lacked confidence in the capacity of a woman to operate a business. Then she got a call.

Develop
“I got a call from the Walmart Vriddhi program in June of 2021, and they asked me a simple question: ‘How is your business doing?’” Chanda remembers. “And I responded, ‘My business is inactive… and it’s been that way for three months now.” Undaunted by the inactivity, the team at Vriddhi offered Chanda something she wasn’t expecting: support. Then things started to change. “The team first suggested that I should consider clearing dead inventory and get some cash in hand,” Chanda said. “I reviewed my situation and decided to list combo packs of the items in my inventory on the marketplaces. After that, I really started to see some traction.”

Connect
By connecting entrepreneurs to the community, learning and the Flipkart marketplace, Vriddhi opens doors to opportunity. With each learning module she completed through Vriddhi’s business course offerings, Chanda’s confidence grew. “I felt motivated after every training session I attended,” Chanda said. “After Diwali, I cleared all my loans and backed trust from my vendors. Now, I’m in the third year of singlehandedly managing my business — and my little one.”
Grow
For Chanda, growth has meant progress. Her hard work, dedication to the process, and willingness to learn have all paid off. She’s thriving. And she’s not slowing down. “Since joining the Walmart Vriddhi team, my business has grown 10 times over,” Chanda said. “When I look back and think about how I reached this level, I have Walmart Vriddhi to thank.” Looking to the future, Chanda wants to invest in a small factory so she can own the means of production. Her goal is to create her own product line – and to employ more women in India. With Vriddhi’s backing, she thinks it’s possible. “In my family, women weren’t allowed to work, and I didn’t come from a family with a business background,” Chanda said. “If I start my own unit, I can employ more women and generate employment in my community. I can offer opportunities for artisans and weavers.” At its core, Chanda’s greatest goal is to inspire – to build a better future for her child and her community. And she’s well on her way. “No matter what you’re doing, give it your best. Only then can you grow,” Chanda said, “It can take time to understand, but once you do, there’s no going back.”
