6. If you tell the truth, an evil person gets to walk away free. If you lie, you may be able to send them away like they deserve. Is honesty worth more than justice?

She scrunches her face up in thought, starting and stopping a couple of sentences before huffing lightly. “Okay so honestly? Depends. Like what kind of evil are we talking? Because if a whole region of people would benefit from that person being put away, and they’ve done awful things in the past that they got away with, I would. The law let’s people do all sorts of things they shouldn’t, so why not take advantage of it if there’s an opportunity?” she says before sighing. “Still it would depend on the person, and what they’ve done. But yeah. I’d lie.” 

9. Can people be held accountable for things people close or related to them did or are they innocent?

Lemon’s dark green eyes blink in surprise, frowning as she tilts her head in confusion. “No? Not unless they were involved? What’s the saying? Uh-father’s name and responsibility umm-,” she says, looking up in thought before perking up. “Oh! “We are born with our father's names. We are not responsible for their failures. We are responsible for what they made us believe in. That is our only obligation. And it is even then a choice which we may sometimes be wise to ignore.” That one. It’s a tidy little quote I think…even if I can’t quite recall where I read it. Still, the thought that even if your parents failed you or tried to teach you awful things you can still unlearn them. It feels right. You shouldn’t be held responsible for the actions of someone who has power over you.”  

22. How do you feel about having an intimate relationship with someone you don’t love? What if they love you in return? Does that make you feel guilty?

Lemon blushes deeply, dark enough that some of her lighter freckles disappear under the red staining her face, and she pulls her hair forward to hide behind her braid as she looks at the floor. “Sweet butter biscuits y’all don’t hold back with anything huh?” she practically squeaks, mumbling something under her breath as she attempts to reorient herself, failing miserably as the blush spreads to the tip of her ears and down her neck. “Okay wow um-so-geez okay. It’s uh…been considered before, for curiosity's sake if nothing else. I could um-yes I could have a…an um…intimate relationship with someone I didn’t love love, but we’d have to be friends at least? I wouldn’t ah-wouldn’t want to be like that with someone I didn’t at least get along with,” Lemon stumbles through an attempt at an explanation, sinking deeper into the chair as she does. “If it was platonic I could, but um-if feelings got involved it might be better to stop? Right? I wouldn’t want to hurt anyone like that. That would be awful. Really awful.”

Mantis: 12, 15, 32?

12. If someone else stole something and you stole it back is that a good deed, a bad deed or one of equal worth? Are you better than the original thief? 

Mantis’ arms cross in front of her, unintentionally accentuating the lines of musculature of her arms. She grins wide, tilting her head jauntily. “Makes me a better thief don’t it? Doesn’t seem bad to me. Least as long as I return the thing to the owner….who I’m assuming hired me to bring it back?” she says, scratching the back of her head as she thinks. “Is it supposed to be a “stealing is bad” thing? Cause that’s kinda dumb.” 

15. Is lying to others to gain their approval more important than being genuine and hated?

She laughs, head tilted back as she grins lopsided at the interviewer. “Nah I’d rather be liked for who I am. Not much of an actor. I can’t lie worth a damn anyway,” Mantis says before her grin gets softer, though no less bright and pleased. “I’ve got friends who like me plenty, and Cricket. Don’t have room for people who need me to pretend to like me.”  

32. If you could choose to remove certain feelings such as anger, confusion, sadness, would you remove them?

Mantis’ entire face scrunches up, stuck between a wince and looking like she bit into something that was definitely not tasty. “....no? Seems silly. No payoff that way.”

Zimri: 3, 18, 27?

3. If you could jump back through time to save a loved one’s life, would you? Despite what it might do to the timeline? To everyone else? Do you believe it is their fate to die regardless?

Zimri leans back, arms resting across the back of the chaise as she reclines comfortably. One thick well groomed brow arches up at the question, and she hums softly. “No. The only person who I would have tried to save was already ancient. Zidler knew what she was doing when she covered for me,” she says, lightly hooking her finger through one of her large gold hoop earrings to fiddle with it. “She made that choice herself. Besides, I wouldn’t have met Ra’d if I’d stayed. Most likely be dead myself. Of course I miss the old woman but….no. I wouldn’t.”

18. Have you ever done something morally wrong? If it’s morally wrong do you regret it?

“Morals can almost always be bought, and they vary so widely between different places it’s impossible to keep up with what is Wrong and what Isn’t,” she laughs, leveling amber eyes at the interviewer as she smiles. “It depends entirely on what you consider morally wrong. Let’s say a man paid me to fuck him, and all I know is the name he’s given me and how much coin he brought. I do have quite a few clients like that after all. Turns out he’s married. Does that make it immoral? What if the wife knew and didn’t care? What if she did care but didn’t know? What if he didn’t put his dick in me and I just watched him jack it and told him he’s a dirty old man?” Zimri says, holding her hands out to shrug lightly before placing them across the back of the chaise lounge. “Someone will find fault with it somewhere. Maybe they'll blame the husband for paying for my services. Maybe they’ll blame the lusty greed driven tiefling who seduced him. Either way, it's not my problem. The client paid for a service, we’re consenting adults, and whatever nonsense they bring in is their own to deal with.”

27. How far would you go to achieve a dream or ideal? Does it matter who suffers? Does it matter if you suffer?

Zimri’s eyes wrinkle in disgust as she frowns, scoffing and rolling her eyes. “I’m not a noble. Of course I care….sort of,” she says, pronged tail flicking lightly as she puts her thoughts in order. “It may not seem it but I do have some morals. Of course I care when people are suffering, but I’m realistic about what I can actually do. I can rope some street kids into dancing with me so I have an excuse to split the profits between them, make sure they have at least one good meal, but I can’t adopt every poor urchin I see. I don’t have the means,” she says, still scowling as her tail continues to twitch in annoyance. “I know I look like a delicate flower but I am capable. I can handle myself well enough. My own suffering can be dealt with.”

I made my 5 OCs duke it out, yeehaw

So there's 5 of them. In order, we have:

Calvyre - Lvl7 Echo Knight Fighter / Lvl3 Trickster Cleric

Devin - Lvl2 Rogue / Lvl8 Whispers Bard

Florian - Lvl10 Samurai Fighter

Naielle - Lvl10 Celestial Warlock

Zimri - Lvl10 Bladesinging Wizard

An important thing to note is that only Calvyre, Devin, and Naielle are native to 5e. Florian originates from the WitcherTTRPG and I picked Samurai as an approximate of the Man-At-Arms class, and Zimri's a Pathfinder 1e Magus. For the three native to 5e, only Naielle has ever been played canonically at a level close to this (9) - Calvyre saw play as a lvl1 Fighter, and Devin was a 2/1 Rogue Bard, as memory serves. Putting them in this arena was largely a courtesy and numbers thing, and also because Naielle fighting Devin was where this all sort of started.

So the format is straightforward - Each will verse the others twice. So 8 matches per character. Some of that is to offset me learning how their skillsets work, and some of it is to try and offset first turn bias. This was important for someone.

After all 20 matches were done, this was the tally.

Calvyre's sole win was against Florian, in which she echo kited his ass. Devin's wins were 1 against Zimri (first turn bias, baby), and 2 against Calvyre. Florian's losses were the aforementioned Calvyre, and both fights against Zimri. Zimri's 3 losses were aforementioned Devin, and both against Naielle. Naielle's 2 losses were both against Florian, funnily enough.

There's a cute lil chart breakdown of the damages dealt. Which I only did because I was procrastinating HW and wanted to make things colourful and Math. So it shows off that Zimri was the best damager, and Calvyre+Devin pretty bad. Which sort of tracks with the way the tally went. Interestingly, Naielle was the only person who successfully dealt damage to everyone, which everyone else experiencing at least one match where they did nothing.

That was where some of the first turn bias came in. Zimri and Devin, in their two matches, traded spots in that regard. Very funny to me.

Then I decided to do the same table, but moderated by the person's HP. So, eg, the 119 that Devin did against Calvyre (first table, upper left) was divided by 80 (Calvyre's HP) to get 1.49, or 149% of Calvyre's HP (that is because she heals, and also overkill). And then running those through the same calcs as the previous breakdown. Which shows that Naielle did better average damage (makes sense, as she had to do a minimum of 100% against 6 of her 8 opponents, and with two people who can heal? yknow how it is). I just thought it was fun.

And then the big money. So now that I had the ranking, I decided to stage a 2v3, between the top two and the bottom 3. Naielle teamed up with Zimri (who edged out Florian on the basis that they had beaten him both times they fought), and Calvyre, Devin, and Florian contested. A best of three situation.

Which went. Great.

The numbers really don't tell shit, I gotta say. But, baring in mind that Naielle+Zimri have a collective 166* HP and Calvyre+Devin+Florian have a collective 221, well, yknow. And then remembering healing gets involved. its. its a bit ridiculous.

(*As a Celestial Warlock, Naielle gets an extra 15temp hp, and Zimri got 10)

The main thing this does is show off just how devastating a well-aimed aoe is, since in the way ive been counting it, each instance of damage is tallied against the person it hits. So, eg, a Cone of Cold that Zimri used which dealt 30dmg to all three members of the CDF trio adds 30 against each one. so. yknow how it is. Wizards, man.

It mainly shows off how deadly Zimri is, and how un-damaging Devin is. but that doesnt tell the story. Because Devin isn't a damage dealer - she's a debuffer. In round 1, which the CDF won, this was because she was able to cast Confusion on Zimri, allowing them to get wailed on by the two melee characters while she could fuck with Naielle, who couldn't do anything to help. Similarly, Naielle and Calvyre are both supports of a kind, and Naielle spent many turns using her bonus-action healing from being a Celestial warlock, and Calvyre spent MANY turns in round 3 just doing cure wounds specifically on Devin. It was a whole situation.

Round 3 alone took me like 2 hrs to run, because its a lot to track and ive been down this in the most scuffed way imaginable (using Minecraft as my VTT and having 5etools and the character sheets up on another monitor, lmao)

Truly it was a wild ride. Devin did pretty badly in the main brackets and it was genuinely a delight to see her shine in her role as just. an absolute bitch. The MVP of Round 3 by a wide margin, and the Blindness/Deafness spell in particular took the cake. Absolutely devastating.

7 - There’s a magic item made just for them–what is it? 

Fantasy Instagram and a set of hand held stone slabs for her and her girlfriends to use it OR A rapier that has charges of entangle or plant growth, themed like a rose with a thorn coming out of the petals. 

17 - They’re crying–what did it take to make them cry? 

She broke the string on her citole, doesn’t have any replacements or a way to fix it, inspiration has struck, and she has no means to utilize it properly. Cue the waterworks OR Her grandniece finally passes, which would be a much more genuine cry but also much less dramatic. More of a quietly start flowers blooming at her grave and mourn the loss. 

31 - Do they respond well to praise? How about criticism? 

Daffodil quite enjoys praise, especially if it relates to her art or coming from her muses. Criticism should be applied in a compliment sandwich, or she may take it to heart and either withdraw that aspect of herself from the equation (if it’s her muses saying it) or find a way to ruin their week (if a stranger says it). 

45 - What lies do they tell themselves? 

“My time in the wilds and those otherworldly courts with all of its pleasures were wonderfully engaging and –while I do miss my father painfully– I do not regret my meandering path through those deep woody archways. In the end it brought me to my muses in a future I could not have conceived, and I would be poorer for not knowing them. My father was always going to die before me after all. This way at least I did not have to witness it myself.”  

Zimri 

2 - What was your original concept for this character? How did playing them change that concept? 

Zimri hasn’t changed too terribly much personality wise! She’s always been a little dramatic and bougie, never shied away from using her natural assets to get what she wanted, etc. Originally her goal was to raise an army by gathering powerful people to free that man she loved from his father the archduke and his corrupt rule, and save her not-dad from having to follow the orders to hunt her down. Playing her made me rethink that idea a bit, and I haven’t totally settled on what I want from her backstory. Zimri is Under Renovations for now. 

18 - What dish brings back the best memories for them? 

The poor attempt at curry her patron and basically father Avi would make from time to time. As a duke he wasn’t well versed in cooking, but he would always make a plate for him and Zimri after a particularly long day. Zimri rarely ever ate all of it but the smell of mediocre curry still makes her think of him. 

46 - Have they taught themselves any skills just for fun? 

I like to think at some point down the line Zimri would have taught herself some basic sewing skills, mostly so she can alter her own clothes a bit. Otherwise all of her skills are for survival. 

63 - What's a meme or tiktok or vine (or whatever) that you associate with them? 

Olly 

4 - What one person, place, or thing do they love more then anything else? 

Person - Top five favorite people who all come in first place are Danya, Eden, Tsisa, Lemon, and Benji (his sisters, favorite cousin his age, favorite little cousin/baker, and his father figure) and you can’t make him choose.

Place - The hives on Danya’s land OR Rosalind’s sprawling gardens. 

Thing - His bees. He loves those little bees.  

10 - What inspired this character's creation? 

He started out as a mix between Squidward from Spongebob, Spencer from ICarly, and Coach Finstock from Teen Wolf. I knew I wanted to make the cousin that ran the bakery/cafe Lemon, and Olly was a great fit for the role of a tired grumpy secretly very soft bakery manager.  

20 - What attracts them to someone–platonically and/or romantically, anything counts. 

Platonically he tends to be drawn to people who are either a bit quiet or broody –because this man is a caretaker under all the grump– or able to match his occasional shit shitting mood with their own. Of course a good sense of humor goes a long way too. He doesn’t have much of a physical preference for his romantic partners, so it’s mostly down to vibes with Olly. Kindness and humor are the things that make him take notice of someone, then if he teases them and they either get flustered, tease back, or even better argue he’s caught. Why he likes kind of bossy goody types he’ll never know. 

52 -How would they dress themselves for a formal event? 

A well tailored suit with bee and magnolia accents as either lapel pins, cufflinks, or a wristwatch. Nice shiny but flexible leather shoes he’s scored the bottoms of for better grip. 

Danya 

28 - Do they collect anything? 

Anytime anyone brings her flowers she presses a couple of each type of bloom in books in her private office, a habit she picked up from Doran. Danya also quite likes collecting books in general, and has the second largest library outside of Rosalind’s in the main estate house. 

47 - What could they talk about for hours on end? 

Law. It would be a bit dry, but she could lecture for hours on legal processes and functions in The United Shires, how they were brought about, and how they differ between the five shires. Unfortunately she isn’t particularly talkative in the first place, so anything she would talk about at length would just be a lecture. She would much rather have someone else do the talking. 

56 - Who would they trust with their life, unequivocally? 

Eden, Olly, Benji, or Doran. If her adoptive mother was still alive she would also be on the list but she’s passed. 

66 - Which fruit do they like most? 

She is quite fond of yellow pears or pomegranates. Baked pears are one of her favorite desserts.

anyway i had thoughts about what 'home' means to my ttrpg ocs

For Naielle, she would answer quickly and confidently. Her home is her house back in the Sylvian Empire, on the grounds of the university her family run. And if you didn't know anything about Naielle, and didn't stop to wonder why she's here if she knows exactly what home means to her, then thats an easy answer.

But it's not. Because while it is true, Naielle isn't lying when she says that, she also knows its a lot more complicated than that. Cause like, sure, thats home. Can she be there? No! She's been exiled from the country for a count of treason she did technically commit, she KNOWS that her mothers fucking pissed about the entire thing and would be extremely unhappy to ever see her again, that it'd just be ungodly awkward even if she was legally able to go back. It's more the idea of a home, frozen in time at some point before her exile, which she knows won't be like that when (if) she goes back.

But it'd be able to get Naielle to admit that. If she had to, she'd swap her answer from her childhood home to the house of her fiancee, but she would not move it out of the empire. In spite of everything, she considers that home. Like, she's been in Welvarend for nearly two decades, has been on this expedition fleet sent by Welvarend for a half year, you'd think she'd have some loyalty to that country to consider it home? And yet the moment the fleet admiral is like 'hey go steal gunpowder so we can have a weapon against the sylvian empire, who are objectively being greedy shitheads' Naielle goes haha! no. Now thats more complicated anyway but she fundamentally considers herself to be Sylvian, whatever that means. That it's not about the government, but the people, and the land, or whatever. That's home. Her current address (the house of a cousin) is a house, sure, maybe a home, but not her home.

Whether she continues to think that as time goes on, and especially if she gets a chance to do a little teleporting 1-2-3 and visit her fiancee very sneaky like, that's up in the air. But she currently considers the Empire home.

Florian's in a... similar-ish boat? At least when it comes to an allegiance to a home that's broader in scope that just 'physical building'. He's a loyal Temerian boy. Temeria is his home. That's very unfortunate given he's living in the canon of the witcher 3 and haha! lol.

But when it comes to something more specific, he wouldn't be able to give an answer. Not without a significant amount of prodding, and a few leading questions, or just pissing him off enough that he gives up and just says something to get you to go away. Because while he has an "address", a "place of residence", he hasn't been there in at least 4 years. And, unlike Naielle, that is by choice. He wants nothing to do with it. He wants nothing to do with the place, or the people there. He's seen enough of those interior walls for a fucking lifetime.

He figures at some point he would have to go back, if only to tell anyone who cares that he doesn't want to be the Count after his father kicks the bucket, but he's also half figured he'll predecease his father on account of profession, so he hopes he doesn't have to.

But then what is home to Florian de Kasimir? There's no place that suffices. While he's loyally Temerian, is that the place or its people? A vibe? Can a vibe keep you warm and fed? What does it mean for Temeria to be his home, especially when it is being crushed under the heel of an empire, and when he knows he can't do anything about that?

So he wouldn't be able to give an answer. Because he thinks of a home as a place. A physical location, safe from the elements, where you want to be. And there's no permanent location that satisfies those requirements for him. Which is where it becomes necessary to prod him, to guide him towards a recognition that home needn't be a location - it can be a person, or several people.

At which point you can, eventually, get the answer that if he must say that somewhere or someone is his home, then it would be wherever his friend Zeke goes. Because Zeke's one of the people who never gave a shit about who he was and why, only what he did. Zeke's his fucking guy. I can't even tell you if Florian means that romantically or what, because he would have a lot of difficulty articulating that and would probably just default to 'brothers', not that he knows what that really means lmao. Florian would find the entire discussion deeply frustrating. Too heady and high minded for him, he'd think.

Zimri... well, Zimri's complicated, but not because of how they'd answer the question. Because for Zimri is really simple - Lepidstadt. Their home is Lepidstadt, up in northern Ustalav, in a little bookstore nestled into a busy street. Their home is the book wagon their family would take on a circuit through the country side to visit the many small towns. Their home is with their family :)

Which raises a very important question - why the fuck aren't they there?

And the issue is that Zimri doesn't know the answer to that question, due to amnesia. Zimri hasn't got any clue what motivated them to leave Lepidstadt and come south to Thrushmoor, or what motivated them to buy and then close a bookstore, despite owning their own shop being something they want. Zimri hasn't got a fucking clue what's going on.

But what are they gonna do about that? Nothing. They're off on a quest to save the world. And hopefully, in the course of that quest, they can wrench some of the answers back from the person who took them.

What do they assume is going on? Not sure. Zimri probably assumes that something came up at home - maybe financial difficulty forced some changes, an opportunity came up for Zimri to strike out on their own that they took in order to help everyone out? And then with the bookstore closure, well, context suggests that Zimri decided working for Lowls was more important than the bookstore, which they find... hard to believe, personally. Zimri can't really square that one away. Maybe it was financial, the business wasn't good enough but Lowls paid well enough to keep the candles lit, as it were. Sure. But they would like to know what actually happened, what they were actually thinking as these situations arose that forced their hand.

Which will be fun. Especially since I know what the answer is to why Zimri left Lepidstadt.

And the best part is I don't think Zimri's answer to where home is would change with that knowledge.

It’s my very first dnd character ever! Her name is Zimri, she is a bard, and I will love her forever even if I spent most of the time playing her doing death saves. Zimri, Ra’d, and Kerri are a thing in modern au. In modern au she is a hard working sugar baby, drives a rose gold lambo, and very much enjoys showering her partners with gifts. I like to think her and Danya perform at the same exclusive club sometimes, maybe have drinks afterwords.

T - Toys (do they own any, do they use them, how often, where)

She actually doesn’t have very many toys! Not for lack of interest, just lack of getting the urge to buy them? She has a couple different straps, and keeps an open ended stroker to use on Zadok when they feel like it. The main thing she has as Extra Flavor is rope for Kinbari/Shinbari and some enchanted cuffs to hold Zadok when they play.

H - Hair

Amaryllis prefers to be as smooth shaven as possible, except for a little patch of pubic hair, and even that is trimmed and maintained. She just likes how smooth skin feels against her expensive sheets and enjoys the ritual of shaving and pampering herself. The last relationship she had at least before the ocs y’all made because I was like “she’s sad and lonely” and y’all went “I can fix that” was a boyfriend at law school, but they only briefly dated.

You’d think a bard would be loud when they cum, not Zimri. If she’s being loud it’s a performance. She is actually very quiet when she cums, full body shivers and arching back sort of orgasm, maybe a soft moan or whispering her partner’s name, but nothing louder than that.

I feel like between her usual partners she isn’t the one doing much of the aftercare, but when she does she is very careful with her partner. Lots of soothing touches, gentle kisses, she’ll help them with drinking water if needed and start healing any damage done they want healed. Zimri is pretty good about reading her partners and guessing what they need, but with harder play she’ll make sure they have an aftercare plan laid out beforehand.

Lemon actually enjoys spicy food for the most part, but some spice just burns. She just downs her drink and keeps going though, because food is food and it should never be wasted, even if it’s making her face melt off. She coughs a lot, and gets flushed, but Bells didn’t raise a quitter!

16. Would they draw patterns in frosted windows/fogged up mirrors? What would they draw?

She would, but she’d also wipe off the picture after she’s doodled. Lemon would mostly do shapes like circles and ovals overlapping mostly, though she tried to do a coyote once and it looked so awful she never tried again.

21. Do they touch of mess with their hair/horns a lot?

Lemon has a thing about her hair thanks mom. She hates that it’s as long and thick as it is, but she also refuses to cut it unless she has too. She mostly un-braids and re-braids her hair to calm down and take stock of what she’s feeling, like a meditative gesture. Lemon will also twist the ends of her hair and pick at the split ends when she’s in waiting mode.

30. Have they ever tried to count their own freckles? Do they count other peoples?

Lemon brushes her hair every night she has time, and takes her time with it, normally putting it in a couple braids to keep it from getting tangled while she sleeps. If she’s really tired she doesn’t bother and just leaves it to be morning Lemon’s problem. Bells says she has a tender head, and yanking on her hair hurts enough her eyes water. On the road she keeps it in a tighter braid then usual, and will put it up in a bun to cut down on how often it needs to be brushed.

4. Would your character sing along to a vaguely familiar song, even if they messed up the lyrics as they went?

No, not unless Ed was egging her into it at least. Or one of her little cousins looked up at her with big sad eyes and asked her to sing along. She will enjoy the music in silence otherwise.

9. If someone gave them flowers what would they do with them?

20. Do they like to keep plants/growing things in their space?

Very much so! She loves having green things everywhere, but she can’t keep a plant alive to save her life. She gets so caught up with work she forgets to water them for weeks on end, and is she was left alone to take care of the garden it would either be dead within a week or become a jungle of weeds. Thank gods she hired two gardeners oh no they’re both cute wow.

Zimri-

2. What’s their current hairstyle? Has it changed? Do they change it often?

Zimri has very long wavy beach hair that hits just at the base of her tail. At court with Prem and Avi she used to style it more, half up half down, adding jewelry or chords of shiny fabric into braids, but now that that life is over she mostly keeps it in a high ponytail. She lets it loose for performances and for very special performances will style it in the half up half down style she wore for court.

8. Are their hands steady?

Only enough to apply makeup. Other then that she’s pretty average I think. She can balance a sword on her head while she dances though!

11. How do they feel about casual endearments?

Loves them. Uses them all the time herself without really even noticing it. Zimri isn’t the best with flowery language, but when she gives you her attention she is very good at making you feel special. Her partners all have endearments she uses regularly, but in very soft moments she just uses their name. That feels more genuine to her then the endearments do.

15. What’s a sound they can’t stand?

Children singing. Does she love kids? Yes, they’re cute squishy things who are learning how to be people and she will keep them safe. Does she like hearing them sing? Fuck no, they’re always off key and pitchy and flat and sharp all at once. It’s like nails on a chalkboard to her. Once their voices settle she’ll be happy to teach them how to use their voices but until then please no singing around her.

34. What’s the first thing they think when they hear an alarm? What’s the first thing they do?

Minor flashbacks to when she attempted to murder the archduke to free his son, who was also her lover Prem, and failed. Hearing the alarms blaring as she ran, knowing her adoptive father would be the one sent to hunt her down. But once she snaps out of that she tries to take stock of what happened, and how she can best get out of whatever trouble she landed in. Guards are easy enough to tempt, and afterall she’s just a harmless girl won’t you help her?

Bells-

1. What kind of clothing does your character like to wear? Do they have a style? Anything they avoid wearing?

Despite taking a long break from being an enforcer for the Family, she still often wears parts of her armor in her day to day. She doesn’t normally leave home without her breastplate and gauntlets at least, but does also sometimes switch it out for chain mail under a larger shirt. Bells wears practical clothing most of the time, and favors warm colors like red and various browns with gold accents. Her formal wear is somewhere between masculine and feminine depending on the event, and she’ll wear her hair down instead of up in a ponytail like normal. They avoid clothes that are too tight or too unwieldy. You never know when a fight will find its way to you, and you should always be prepared. A long flowy skirt may be pretty but it isn’t practical.

33. Where are they in a group hug?

Depending on which group she’s with she’s either on the outside or somewhere in the middle. Benji and Nes are really the two who make her feel small, but they are seven feet tall so that’s not surprising. One of them is normally on the outside, then Bells, Lemon in one arm, and other cousins in between. In piles she’s normally in the middle with the other tall people, with Lemon and maybe another little cousin somewhere on her too.

This took forever but here we go!

Danya -

1. What kind of clothing does your character like to wear? Do they have a style? Anything they avoid wearing?

Danya tends to wear dark cool tones, black, and white, with silver accents. Her style is best described as somewhere between a lawyer and a dominatrix, though she leans much closer to lawyer. Pencil skirts to mid knee or calves, various high necked blouses, and a jacket are most common, though she does occasionally wear less form fitting dresses. She avoids anything too casual in public since she is very aware she is representing the Family, though at home after dinner she changes into expensive layered night clothes with long sweeping robes. Chiffon, lace, and silk are her favorite fabrics.

9. If someone gave them flowers what would they do with them?

Panic internally about why someone is giving her flowers first, unless it’s a cousin/Ed then she just accepts them happily. If anyone outside the Family gives her flowers she will stare confused at the flowers, thank them and ask why they’ve given her flowers, internally panic briefly about if she should return the gift with more flowers? Either way they tend to end up in her office, and if they were given by someone she’s pining for she’ll stare longingly at them throughout the day and sigh.

11. How do they feel about casual endearments?

She loves them, but can sometimes be painfully awkward so she doesn’t know how to respond if someone new uses one on her. It’s bad enough when the hires call her Miss Danya, but an actual endearment from anyone she likes would overload her systems. She does sometimes call Ed my jackdaw or some variant of, and the family of course all have their nicknames, so those she is fond of. She finds it to be a lovely example of showing you love someone. Post-feelings talk with the hires they all get a lovey nickname.

37. How would they pass the time on a train?

She is very much a reader/workaholic, so she will either be reading up on whatever location she is going to, or catching up on research for work.

Lemon -

As is tradition in the family, if you do not know all of the words, you must make the new words entertaining. She’s not awful at that game either, but she’s no bard. She totally sings along though, especially in a big crowd or with her family. The smaller the group the less likely she is to sing, because she gets a little shy.

12. What color would they paint their room? Would there be a design on the ceiling?

She prefers blues, greens, white, and yellows in her room. The walls would be a nice pastel blue, light wooden floors, fluffy rugs, bed big enough for cuddling. If she could have a design it might be something like an accent wall instead, with a landscape of a place she thought was especially pretty. She’s not much of a decorator though, she just likes comfortable things and softer colors.

15. What’s a sound they can’t stand?

Rude ass customers and the sounds the chickens make when you slaughter them for dinner. She can do it, but the sound still makes something churn in her gut. Her cousin broke a bone once falling from the hayloft and the sound she made when she hit is another sound Lemon Did Not Like.

30. Have they ever tried to count their own freckles? Do they count other peoples?

Baby Lemon used to keep up with and try to hide every new freckle, because she knew if there were more of them then her mother would try another home remedy to get rid of them. She finally has reached a weird inbetween with her freckles, both loving and hating them all at once. She does try to count other peoples though, mostly some of her cousins and once Tadhgan’s very light ones. Their freckles are cute after all, and she liked mentally connecting them to make pictures.

Labon-

2. What’s their current hairstyle? Has it changed? Do they change it often?

When he was a kid it was long, and his mother kept it in a sort of undercut style with the sides braided and the top kept loose. When everything went down with his clan and he ended up in Waterdeep, it became a choppy mess that he kept short by cutting with his knife, and pulled back out of his eyes with a scrap piece of cloth. Currently it’s an artfully messy bob-ish look, but he’s been thinking about growing it out more and wearing it like he did as a kid.

6. Do they usually sleep in a certain pose? Does it change?

Labon pretty much always sleeps curled into as small of a ball as he can, arms around himself to protect his ribcage, and tucked away somewhere hidden. Even in his beast form he sleeps curled up as tight as he can be. The only time it changes is if he’s sleeping with Durhil, then he just becomes her backpack or curls into her instead of himself. She is Very Warm so he prefers sleeping with her.

10. Would they sneak out at night to look at the sky?

At home the clan were nomads, so peeking his head out of his tent wasn’t really sneaking, and later being a homeless street urchin in Waterdeep meant a roof was a luxury. Once he got pseudo adopted by the owner of the Lucky Lily, Lif-as well as the smith/shopkeep duo of Avi and Embric-he still didn’t really have to sneak out. His room at the Lily was at the very top, so all he had to do was open his window and climb up to the roof. So sneaking out no, but stargazing yes.

21. Do they touch or mess with their horns/hair a lot?

All the time. It’s part of why his hair is always messy. He does it mostly to self-soothe himself when he starts to get nervous/anxious/depressed/etc, and if he’s in partial shift he’ll groom his tail with his claws.

Amaryllis -

7. How would they react to eating something that was spicier than they expected it to be?

If she’s with her partners or trusted advisors, she meeps out a quiet “oh no” followed by a scramble to get a bread roll and milk. If she’s in public or at a dinner with important people and needing to maintain her Lion Empress facade, she saves her bread roll for cases just like this. Amaryllis would delicately dab her mouth with a napkin, take a few bites of the roll in between chatting, and do her very best to regulate her breathing so she doesn’t look like she’s dying. This is hard when she’s albino and any red in her skin if painfully obvious, but she’s gotten better at it over the years.

13. What helps them fall asleep when they’re having trouble doing so?

Tea! She grows her own garden to make teas with, so she’s involved in the process from start to finish. Going through the steps of making tea helps her calm down, and then she has her sleepy tea before trying to go back to sleep. Just after the coupe when her mind was racing with plans she would wander the halls, inevitably end up in the throne room, and slowly make her way back to her chambers. Once Zadok came to the castle sleeping with them helped immeasurably. They’re such a stable presence and that helps Amaryllis sleep easier.

18. Would they sing a lullaby, if the opportunity arose?

She would! Her father had one he used to sing to her about the flowers in the garden growing up, so she most likely would sing that one.

22. When they speak, do they have a default tone of voice? If yes, do they try to change it? Why?

Yes! Her accent is a weird combo of French and British, sort of like Cassandra from DA:I, and depending on who she’s with or her goal the tone changes drastically. Her default is actually quite soft, and she has a fairly standard alto register, the kind of voice you’d want reading a bedtime story or a love poem. When she’s got on the Lion Empress facade her tone shifts to a colder harder edge, and dips just a little bit lower, so she sounds authoritative and a little bit threatening.

Laura -

8. Are their hands steady?

Somewhat! She used to be a waitress/bartender with her papa at his tavern, so she’s got good balance and isn’t super shaky, but she’s no surgeon.

14. Do they tend to run hot or cold? Do they do anything to deal with that?

She runs a little cold, but honestly doesn’t bother with it much, outside of curling up with one of the girls or maybe grabbing a blanket. Laura is fairly low maintenance when it comes to things like that.

16. Would they draw patterns in frosted windows/fogged up mirrors? What would they draw?

She would, but just random patterns or silly notes as a pick me up for whoever comes in next.

19. Do they see patterns in the world around them? Do they point them out to people?

Laura is very good at reading the weather based on clouds and the ocean, most likely inherited from her mama, but those are really the only patterns she bothers with outside of her partners’ skin. Which sounds awful, but they have either tattoos or scales which is endlessly interesting to Laura, she will wax poetic about how interesting they are. She will also use the word interesting 100 times because while she is the daughter of a bard she is very much not one and words aren’t her strong suit.

Zimri -

5. If they wear any, how does your character go about applying makeup?

So canon Zimri uses kohol and charcoal to give her eyes a smoked out wing, as well as a red lip stain nearly everyday. Her eyes are a gold-ish orange-ish color, so she thinks it helps for her to have some extra definition around her eyes. She applies it quickly in the morning, and washes it off before bed. Modern AU Zimri is as deep into the world of makeup as you can be, and it takes her a solid two hours to put on a face. Her foundation isn’t super heavy, and she doesn’t do much contour other then some light bronzer, but she does get very excited about eye makeup, highlighter, and various lip colors. And body butters with highlighter in them. Make her all gold and copper and she’s very happy.

17. Do they fidget? How and/or with what?

Zimri will fidget with her earrings sometimes, or various rings. She’ll pick at her nails with another nail if she’s really bored, but she doesn’t really fidget out of nerves, more to keep her hands busy because she’s bored and trying to stay awake.

33. Where are they in a group hug?

Wherever she can squeeze in. She isn’t super short, but compared to her partners she is, so I imagine she either jetpacks herself to one of them, or is in the middle.

35. Do they sing with their head voice or chest voice?

Shockingly Zimri sings with her chest voice the most. She thinks it makes her sound more sultry when she uses her chest voice compared to her head voice, but she knows to adapt to the audience she has, so she’ll switch as needed.

What’s the silliest thing they’ve used magic to do? Oh boy they’re all Fools.

Amaryllis-

She has absolutely used mage hand to bring things to her when she’s mid lounge and doesn’t want to get up. She also uses it in arguments to close doors on people's faces while she storms away.

Danya-

Is also a big fan of mage hand, and uses it to reach books in high places in her office/library without needing to bring out a ladder. She has also cast it to yank curtains closed when she’s hungover.

Laura-

Absolutely abuses shape water to mess with people or to make ice for her drinks. If she’s feeling mischievous mid drink she’ll cast it to make the person’s drink turn into a fish and start swimming around their head.

Lemon-

Outside of Thamaturgy for pranks or yelling back at rude customers, she mostly used her Light cantrip to sneak out and not trip over everything, and once used sacred flame to try to roast an apple. It mostly just left charred apple behind, but for awhile Lemon was determined to see if she could regulate the intensity of the radiant attack to properly roast something. She thought it might have a different flavor then with fire!

Rosalind-

Rosalind uses Cloak of Shadows to avoid talking to people she doesn’t want to all the time. If someone sees her coming and she doesn’t want to talk to them, she’ll duck into a store/room/ally and cast it, hide for a minute while the person follows her into the store, and then leave while they’re looking for her. If she’s already used it for the day, she’ll do the same thing but cast disguise self instead, changing her facial features/clothing just enough for people to realize it wasn’t her they saw, and she’ll slip away that way.

Zimri-

All of my bards abuse mage hand in different ways. Zimri uses it to gently pinch her partner’s butts, or to open doors without having to actually touch them, and for unlacing her dresses if she can’t quite reach. In modern au if one of her partners is walking around in just a halter top/bra, you better believe that closure isn’t safe and she’s gonna try to undo it with mage hand.

Pumpkin/ What is your favorite season?

Spring! All the flowers in bloom, the summer heat kept at bay for awhile longer, the buzz of bees, all the best things in one short season.

Vampire/ What is your favorite supernatural creature?

Nymphs have always fascinated her. As a child she used to ask her father to braid flowers into her hair, and pretended to be one while she played in the garden.

Full Moon/ Do you prefer nighttime or daytime?

She doesn’t really have a preference! While it does take her awhile to wake up in the morning, and she can be a little grumpy, she doesn’t actually dislike them. Plus there are different things to look at during both times, but if she had to choose she would say daytime.

Zimri-

Corn Maze- What is your favorite autumn activity?

The fashion is very cute, plus it’s the perfect excuse to steal one of her partners jackets for an oversized jacket look. She could do without the cold weather though. At least she gets to wear thigh high boots!

Candy Corn/ What is your favorite kind of candy?

Candied orange peels covered in dark chocolate or spiced dark chocolate. She’s also a fan of caramel chews.

Bat/ Do you have any pets?

Does Ra’d count? She doesn’t though, but she wouldn’t mind getting one. Maybe a snake, or a cat.

Mummy/ What is your biggest fear?

On the surface insects in general give her the heebie jeebies. They just have so many legs, and they crawl weird, and they’re hairy but not in a nice way, just ew ew ew. On a deeper level she’s mostly afraid of being helpless, or never being able to go home again. Being cut off from her support system is terrifying, and she’s handling it as well as she can. Feeling isolated and alone genuinely scares her. (In tMA she’d be in either The Corruption or The Lonely)

Cauldron/ What kind of potion would you make if you had the opportunity?

More healing potions for the party. Really she’d make a potion that would let her understand/read/speak any language. She would still try to learn the language of course, but this could give her a jumpstart into learning!

“Why? Tell me why you left. I don’t want an apology I want an explanation. If you knew mother was…the way she is then why didn’t you take me with you? Or at least come home more then once every couple of years! I barely know what my own father looks like! “So mom is a Dread Wavemistress, dad’s a barkeep don’t know how that worked and trust me I didn’t ask BUT, they call mom The Great Dread. Bit of a mouthful but nice title. You know what dad calls her? Katherine. The Great Dread, one of the great Wave Mistresses of the deep, and dad calls her Katherine. She let dad name me too, so when she came to see him and handed over my tiny self to this man and told him to name me, my dad brilliant man he is, named me Laura. Laura. The most normal name I’ve heard. How am I supposed to get a title to compete with mom’s with a name like Laura?!“

I value his council more than any other. He taught me how to brew tea you know. Showed me how to care for the plants, when and how to harvest, how long to dry the leaves, every step he was patient and gentle. After I led my coup and took the throne he brought me tea. Sitting alone on the throne covered in blood and my father brings me tea. I try to let him know how much he means to be but I know lately I have been...occupied. I only hope that I make him proud.“

Okay this is long so I'm just gonna put a Read More here so it doesn't clutter people's dash. Also this took forever to transfer from my notebook to here >,> Sooner or later I’ll get the other prompts I’ve already written on the computer. 

ZIMRI: The OG Hoebag - Also going to do Modern AU her since that’s the least complicated most fun one. 

4. Favorite non-sexual activity

Going on walks with her girlfriends, cuddling in bed, or stealing kisses while one of them is cooking. Zimri loves showing off her partners, but also prefers their attention to be on one of them, so it’s a fun game for her to find different ways to keep their attention on each other or herself. 

6. Favorite feature of their partners?

For Ra’d it’s her neck, shoulders, and chest. For Kerri it’s her jawline, arms, and thighs. Also both of their eyes and mouths. Zimri is really just a fuckin fool for both of them. They walk in the room and she immediately looks at them. 

7. What's the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?

Thankfully modernAU Zimri has significantly less problems than canon Zimri, so as soon as she realizes her feelings for Ra’d aren’t just “holy shit she’s hot” Zimri starts to give her a ton of gifts and blatantly flirts. It still takes forever for Ra’d to realize Zimri is flirting. 

If I remember right they met Kerri in a bar. Zimri hit on Kerri first because “wow she’s hot AND funny? Ra’d can we take her home please?”, but Kerri didn’t think she was serious at first, so Zimri threw Ra’d at her to explain. Ra’d cannot lie, so Kerri is Convinced. Kerri also gets a ton of gifts and when they all move in together Zimri routinely steals bits of clothing or accessories so they match. 

12. Who initiates kisses?

Zimri is more of a boob/thigh grabber, but she’s very physically affectionate overall so she would encourage the girls to kiss her.

2. Big spoon/Little spoon?

All spoons, though since they’re mostly on a ship it’s hard fitting more than two people in a bunk/hammock. She does lean to the jetpack style with larger partners and big spoon with smaller, but is mostly just happy to be with them. 

6. Favorite feature of their partners?

Vaska’s is her back, arms, and hair. Grusha is her soft tummy and thighs. Hallafax is her eyes, hands, and just her skin in general is so lovely. 

8. Nicknames? If so, how did they originate?

Laura uses very boring nicknames tbh. Her father is a bard (one of the bardiest considering he seduced a literal sea demon out of a contract for his soul and got a baby and a demon wife out of it) but she sure isn’t. Vaska tends to be lovely, Grusha sweetness, and Hallafax darling. 

13. Who reaches for the other's hand first?

Laura is so damn soft but is always a little nervous about her hands. She has little paw pad texture on her palms and the tips of her fingers, and sharp claws she keeps filed down, so she’s a little self conscious of her hands. Though she is the first to play with someone’s hair, or try to spin someone into a dance.

3. Most common argument?

Pre figuring out their nonsense it’s the back and forth of “Would you stop using misty step and jUST LET ME EXPLAIN MY PLAN YOU MIGHT LIKE IT” and Eilidh just “>:P” and poofing away. After that it's who gets to top. Just two switches vying for the top. 

6. Favorite feature of their partners?

Amaryllis is just so interested in Eilidh’s tattoos, and her skin in general is just such a lovely shade of blue. She also has very nice arms that are totally not distracting at all. 

10. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?

Amaryllis remembers Eilidh’s order, and Eilidh tries but her girlfriend's order is long and complicated. 

20. What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

Her father thinks the whole thing is honestly godsent. Her grandmother is mostly relieved they didn’t kill each other. They both privately think that without Eilidh, their girl would have lost herself in the persona of the Lion Empress, and become more violent and vicious as a result.

Singing or playing music for her girls, or bathing with them. Let her take care of them in any way and she’s thrilled.

Koyla is all of her lovely hair, her hands, and tongue. Vaathu is her skin, chest, and arms. Magpie is her ears, thighs, and the dip in between her collarbone and breasts. 

16. Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?

As a filthy noble it is her nature to lounge, and doing so with the lovely creatures she’s so taken with is an event she prefers to draw out for as long as possible. 

21. Who is more likely to start dancing with the other?

If they will let her, she will absolutely spin them around the room the moment something inspires her. The sun glinting just so off of Koyla’s fur, Vaathu in profile with the open sky behind her, anytime Magpie uses her wit to create new inspiration, all of it.
