i feel better today. i didnt get too much work done today because i kept running into annoying problems, but other than that the day was pretty nice. i hung out with reggie today. at first i was worried that he too treated me with the aloof attitude i feel like i received from ned, but he opened up to me more as the day went on. i feel like this aloof attitude might be because after living apart for a while, people are just unsure of who i am and what our relationship is, and this was amplified with ned because we have lived apart for longer. it hurts though because i feel like i used to be quite close to ned. even though reggie doesnt satisfy that certain intellectual craving that i have as much as ned does, im still glad to have reggie as a friend. one thing i was thinking about today was how i feel like i had the dankness beaten out of me. when people like ned and yan moved out of the bay, and i mostly hung out with martin and reggie, i felt like my dankness was no longer appreciated, when it was potentially a draw to yan and ned. and now i no longer remember how to be dank. it was never truly part of my base personality, but i worked hard to cultivate it and enjoyed it, and now ive lost it and its way too late to get it back. in retrospect i think it drew a lot of the most interesting people ive met, and it sucks to lose it. im scared of meeting those people now and have them be bored and not want me because i now dont produce what they found valuable. specifically last time i met jay and edward i felt this way, like jay was maybe even taken aback by how i changed. i could imagine him feeling that way. very sad. i wonder if jay almost feels the same way, i dont know why i think that. im meeting edward again on friday with martin reggie and melvin. maybe its my last chance to prove my worth to edward. might be difficult in the presence of reggie and martin who dont appreciate that kind of thing. i should go for it anyways. i also met with allen today. he also satisfies that intellectual craving for me but i never interacted with him really through being dank. i was never that close to allen but i think our relationship was the same its always been which is nice. honestly any relationship that hasnt deteriorated im happy with. i think id get along with allen if i moved here. im feeling a bit self conscious that my writing feels more shallow compared to yesterday. i guess at least im doing this for more than a day, with the caveat that i dont have too much else to do in this hotel room. i hope i can get some work done tomorrow. thats probably the thing im most stressed about right now. id hate to disappoint rex and have that just stain even my professional reputation among the toddpole group. i feel like unlike usual i actually put in the hours on this trip, but just got not much out of them. very disappointing. i wonder if other people are as insecure about everything as i sound writing. probably not? id hope for people's overall happiness that that is not the case. but who knows? not like these are acceptable thoughts to share anyways. i wonder if this kind of blog is unique. i was thinking its very different from an autobiography thats written after the fact, im not sure where i could find similar literature to this. though i wonder if even id be interested in it, but maybe my depth of thought would make it interesting. if i dont at least think deeper than others what have i even got at this point. i thought about writing about something unhappy today but maybe i focus too much on the unhappy things. everything is a maybe, but thats how things objectively should be viewed i think. i think i shouldnt refer back to earlier days writing this even though that would provide more continuity. i wonder if the difference between how i feel today and feel yesterday is somehow due to forgetting my medication. i mean surely not too much has chnaged right? or maybe it truly is a difference in reality vs expectations, like the damaged relationship with ned vs the good relationships with reggie and allen. Yes, you pretty much get it. this community has being going through a lot since engstars release, the fame it's getting but the lack of information it's spreading are things that we're not very happy about,,

You see, enstars is a game that heavily relies on reading. so imagine how we feel when the new players are coming here and doing everything but that. I accept it, we've been very sour towards the newbies because of their lack of information (I'm vv sorry) though Tumblr is pretty chill overall? there are other places like TikTok that are hosting misinformation sprees and it's very painfully and raging to watch. TwT

If you read the original story, you'll notice that Akira (one of the main writers) makes a lot of references to classic literature and plays. quotes poetry and other similar things !! Akira is a well cultured person, and his writing is part of the spark that brings joy to all the enst stories.

So imagine when the eng translation gets released. a tl not even made by english natives neither proofread by anyone. a tl that doesn't get all those references I spoke about. a tl that had to be purposely censored to avoid conflict (though I agree. there's bigotry and other problematic topics in a lot of stories) because western audiences are not good at handling them.

Happyele (the company who manages the game) is extremely strict with copyright. that's why you won't find a single leak about the game. why you won't easily find translations publicly (tls are actually illegal. that's why the wiki got nuked approximately a year ago) and that's why fan tls are a miracle. fans do get their references. fans make their investigations and their proofread with the most amazing quality, they're literally the miracle of this community.

Also, you pretty much got it !! "entering our community so violently" yes !! most of us feel that way. please don't get us wrong, I've seen some new players complain that we're being "rude" because of our silly gatekeeping; however, even if we're not receiving them with open arms and the biggest smile, we haven't harassed neither attacked anyone (actually we've been trying to help with guides and things).

As you said, this community has always been very small, so all of us know each other and all of us are in the same page (?) obviously since the game is getting more popular, more people are entering this place and I guess that makes us feel unsafe, since not everyone agrees on the same things once communities start growing.

I apologize for this ramble in your ask. with this I really don't want to discourage you to enter this franchise. actually most of us have been making guides on how to read stories and similar !! overall I just want to thank you. you're the first eng player I've seen that empathized with our situation 0(-(

hi everyone, you might see i've deleted everything on this blog. i've decided that going forward i really want to focus on what i'm actually studying and not the process of studying itself, so you're going to see a lot less photos from me in general as i shift away from trying to post the best looking pics with the right angle, etc.

i definitely want to put more of a focus on literature in general though so prepare to see rambles about things im reading and a few excerpts here and there. i also still like to talk about language learning methods so dont worry :)

right now everything is going well and my break (although it was only a week) was pretty nice. im actually working on my doctoral applications now, ive already written my first statement of purpose and it is so daunting but it feels great.

ok so we have seen over and over again people's assumptions about how gg main characters's instagrams would look like but how do you think their secret tumblr blogs would be? 👀

hmm! i just went over tumblr in general, because i don’t think all of them would have ‘secret’ tumblrs per say? everyone’s thing under the cut, cause it got SO long. i did not mention chuck because i don’t rlly see chuck as having a tumblr in any universe tbh - i feel like he would think it takes away from his businessy vibe or something.

dan's main would be something with a ts eliot url, like, a snippet from one of his poems, or it would be a whitman url, a snippet from a poem again (i see him with a whitman url of some kind & maybe his blog title is an eliot reference.) dan would 100% have the whole dark academia thing going in some ways, i think his blog would be organised as a grid, and he would reblog pictures of libraries, museums, occasionally of art, and also, quotes. so many quotes. so much literature. if you've been on tumblr long enough you know exactly the kind of blog i'm talking about.

dan's tumblr sideblog, on the contrary, would have nothing to link it to him. it'd probably be the tumblr default theme, pastel colours or something... i feel like dan is the specific genre of trans kid who uses a different set of pronouns online for anonymity purposes and then goes "wait a minute i like these pronouns BETTER". his url would be something extremely mundane and random like coffeeaddict779 or something, and it would be all #vent and #dont reblog. nobody who's following his sideblog knows what his main is, and vice versa.

serena would i think have one of those "be kind, do no harm :)" kind of hipster tumblr blogs, except she's incredibly sincere. she wouldn't have a sideblog, i don't think? and i don't think she'd attach her name to it in any way, probably just pronouns in bio and maybe a 'call me S'. she and dan would be mutuals on dan's main! her blog will be very, uh. aesthetic pictures, reblogs of dolphin videos and music and WIP art videos and anything else that'll catch her eye. she'll tag blair in fashion vids, nate in sailing posts, dan in literary stuff, and vanessa in film related/photography related things. she's having fun! every now and then she'll post a vent post but it's extremely vague and it's either something everyone who knows her irl already knows about her ('i hate my mom so much') or something that says practically nothing ('i am so worried about my brother and wish i could do more to help him.')

jenny's fashion inspo blog!!!! what more do you want me to say. she'd make it big in the fashion community and get anons all the time and she'd probably also have an etsy where she sells things she's sewn and made. everyone sort of knows she's an up and coming designer and she'd find a good community online hopefully!!! her blog would be something simple, with a url like jennydesigns or something (i bet that's taken rn, i havent checked) and her theme would be one of those themes that allows for u to have big images. she would probably post vents in the same way serena does, tag them #personal or #rambles, and have that neat code that allows for the tag to be filtered out whenever anyone views her page on desktop, you know?

i think eric would not have anything specific that he posts. he would just reblog random things - memes, things he finds interesting, jenny's original posts, stuff serena tags him in, cat videos, lgbtq+ positivity, etc. he'd try and stay out of drama (i think he'd turn anon off eventually.) he’d also post a lot of music reblogs or links, i feel?

vanessa's main blog would be one where she posts her own photos and films. because she's professional about it, it'd probably just be @ vanessaabrams. she'd have a sideblog specifically for reblogging other people’s work because she wants to support other artists, and it would be vanessareblogs or something like that, and her bio would mention “main tumblr @ vanessaabrams”. she’d be much adored in the photo/film community and just in general, because she’s one of the few people who hypes up other creators all the time and leaves nice comments in tags and all that. every now and then serena reblogs vanessa’s photography onto her blog and it almost always blows up, but vanessa doesn’t mind. i don’t think vanessa would have a vent blog or even a personal tag, she gives me big ‘i wanna keep my business totally off the net’ kind of vibes.

nate’s blog would be a lot like serena’s except, uh, more openly wanderlusty i think. a LOT of ocean reblogs. every now and then he reblogs keroauc quotes from dan which the girls find extremely hilarious. he talks a lot about sailing and gets a lot of sailing anons. he’d reblog a lot of positivity (mostly because he knows his friends are following him and he wants to brighten up their dash.) dan and vanessa jokingly dm him weed aesthetic posts all the time, but every time they do he reblogs and tags it ‘sent to me’ or somehting like that, and they cant decide whether to be flattered or embarrased. i think nate would also attract a lot of anons who ask for advice and it is something he never expected people coming to him for, but he definitely listens and shares whatever he’s got to say all the same. he’s this blog who should be weirdly niche but everyone sort of knows him and likes him.

saving the best for the last, lol. i have SO many thoughts about blair’s tumblrs. 

i think she’d have a main tumblr that’s solely for classic film stuff (audrey! and more) and that’d be @ blairwaldorf, because, well, duh. i think she’d pay for a tumblr theme and get one of those really fancy and cute ones, like a floralcodes ms paint theme. i think she’d also have a sideblog that’s less serious, where she’d reblog things from tv shows, reblog things serena or nate have tagged her in, write her own meta for fandoms she’s in, just generally be a multifandom mess with a #personal tag but nothing too personal. it would still be classy, because she’s blair, but on this blog, she’s just a girl having fun.

and then she’d have a THIRD blog, a sideblog that doubles up as a vent blog. and this one isn’t linked to her other two in an obvious way, nobody knows it’s her, etc. on here she’d probably post a lot about her ed (but i think in a  ‘i am struggling and i want to bitch’ way, not in a thinspo way - that’s a whole conversation i have no spoons for, so let’s not go there), she’d post about her insecurities and worries but it would be extremely untraceable. she’d have a fancy theme on this one too, despite it being a vent blog. 

hm. now im thinking of the potential of like. dan and blair interacting super frequently on their vent blogs and neither of them knowing it’s the other person!

ive been drinking water steadily all throughout the day! i always carry a bottle of water with me wherever i go so hydration is never an issue. im also about to eat soon and ive been doing nothing but resting today, so no worries on that front!

my country entered lockdown 2.0 in mid-september and were now slowly reopening in two-week increments. i believe this week stores with open air access (so no malls) have opened. im not currently in school, but i know from friends that most classes are being done online with some exceptions. i love any humanities subject, though history and literature are my favorites. i aim to major in history in the future! im 21, turning 22 in december.

my favorite book is, without a doubt, the book thief. its an extraordinary story in every way and the writing is just... chefs kiss! exquisite. i cannot recommend it enough. my favorite movie is inception, though i must admit 1917 is slowly replacing it- it was the last movie i saw in an actual theater before covid and i sat in my seat for five minutes after the credits ended in complete awe. its an incredible movie!! it made me jennie slate scream. i used to watch anime when i was younger, but i havent seen any in at least eight years; i think ive grown out of it, if that makes sense. i do like puzzles! they feel like little exercises for my brain. i write, and i also draw sometimes. ive drawn my first ever vent art last month and it was very cathartic. i prefer orange juice over apple juice, but to honest im not a very big fan of either of them since sweet drinks give me a headache. ive started crocheting a blanket for my soon to be born nephew, which i like- crocheting is very therapeutic and meditative. i havent done a face mask recently, but now i want one.

i have a cat (selek) at my moms and another cat (maeve) and a dog (freddie) at my dads! theyre all doing well, each being a bastard in their own way. freddie likes to play, but shes not very well trained yet so she bites. were working on it!

ive been doing. meh? ive been struggling ever since my grandfather passed away in early may, and other life circumstances have been weighing on me. im doing my best to manage, though rest assured, this blog isnt taxing enough to affect my mental state. i wouldnt be running it if i wasnt able to handle it.

last night as we welcomed ramadhan i finally had the drive to write about the lessons from sharing sessions and talks ive been to, particularly a talk i attended at masjid ansar about ramadhan. turned out the drive was warm warm chicken poop (hangat hangat tahi ayam hahahaha) only and i ended up not writing. hahaha nothing new there!!! 

that same night you shared with me about your islamic sharing instagram account big idea you had with your friend!! and i was so thrilled!!! partly because you’re basically doing what i’ve always wanted to do on a blog but been putting off for a long timeee. the other part is just me being so proud of you for always coming up with amazing ideas and always so willing to share the good stuff that you come across. i really hope this great idea will become reality and i really really look forward to it!!! count me in anytime hehe.

sometimes i hide behind an inferior complex when deciding not to pursue something like oh im never going to deserve to do calligraphy because i am not arty and i don’t want to degrade calligraphers by my undeserving attempt. that sounds super silly hahaha but ya i am silly like that. it was only natural (???? silly^10000 but yes) that i completely threw away my idea of finally posting something on my blog, because someone better is doing it already. but H you were so supportive and interested in my own initiative, and plus all the thought challenging i did i realised that other people taking good initiatives does not in any way degrade my own. and so fast forward to now i’m still trying to get to the subject of matter hahahaha what a prelude!!!

i was very much interested by the concept haha unlimited data plan yes please my bills are getting so ex because data usage :-) kidding hehe of course there was more to it than its literal meaning. 

the talkshow by the five asatizah panelists covered three main topics:

1. pre-paid pahala

the topics surrounding intentions and sincerity were being discussed. having good intentions without even carrying out the actions yet entitles a person to rewards --> pre-paid pahala cool eh !! may we all proceed to carry out the good we intend to do with sincerity, amin.

i. what is sincerity?

having sincerity/ikhlas is defined as doing something without hoping for any reciprocation or rewards. this reminded me so much of our malay literature days when cikgu A would ask “what is the most important lesson we can learn from the sun?” when we were going through the sajak ‘menjaring mentari hidupku’. (sidetrack i really couldn’t remember the sajak title i just remembered something got to do with sun but definitely not mengejar mentari...........huehe anje ayanggg) the answer being: the sun gives and gives, even when it knows the beings on earth can never repay it. what can i give the sun?? what can the plants give the sun?? and still it continues being the number one source of energy everyday. 

in doing good deeds though sometimes we experience spiritual and moral roadblocks like feeling riyak and overly proud of the good we do. asatizah shared that the way around these roadblocks is not to simply stop doing the good, but continue to engage in the good deed as well as pray that Allah removes the riyak and grant us sincerity.

asatizah shared a story of saidatina Fatimah r.a’s sincerity in helping those in need, putting their needs above her own. nobody knew of the story until Allah sent down a verse narrating the sincere deed Fatimah r.a had carried out. 

the story took place during the month of ramadhan. each day Fatimah r.a only had water, milk and bread to break her fast with. on the first day during iftar, a needy person came knocking to ask for food. she gave away her food and only had water for herself. this happened for three consecutive nights masyaAllah! idk if it were me i’d probably have gone ‘oh im so hungy i havent eaten in three days i gave all my food away to the poor!!!’ probably hoping for some sort of acknowledgement or applaud haha or complimentary iftar. but masyaAllah Fatimah carried the deed out without expecting anything but Allah’s blessings. her intention was solely to please God. the verse is recorded in the quran:

وَيُطْعِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا  إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَاءً وَلَا شُكُورًا

surah al-insan, 8-9

ii. how do we know of a person’s sincerity?

we dont hahahaha. only Allah knows! but it’s always good to believe someone is doing a good deed out of good intention and sincerity. on our part too, we may have ulterior motives intentional or unintentionally along the way of doing good. dont stop nothing to see here move along now keep calm and doa!

iii. how to attain and maintain sincerity?

be conscious of our intentions to do something for the sake of Allah

act it out. actions speak louder than words

istiqamah in training our hearts

remember that Allah sees and appreciates each and every good deed and intention

here, asatizah shared the story of saidina Kalid al Walid r.a. Khalid was leading a battle when he was demoted by khalifah Umar. instead of being bitter about it he fought harder and with even more willpower. when asked why he was not the least bit demotivated over being demoted, he replied that he fought not for the title but for the sake of Allah. 

knowing that Allah always appreciates the good we do is so heartening. it’s also so heartening when people are appreciative of the good we do. this doesn’t negate our sincerity though, view it as Allah’s way of making us happy through His other creations

2. free outgoing doa

ramadhan is the month of mercy! forgiveness! and so we ask of Allah for aaall that and more in the blessed month. 

asatizah first shared the mannerisms of making doa, which are found in the structure of surah al-fatihah. ustazah S shared this before in school!! so excited for some reason when ustaz shared during the talk. making doa inadvertently makes us realise that we are such....small beings who depend so much on His mercy. it would only be appropriate to make doa in a state of sincerity, humbleness and humility. 

doa is significant in our lives, such that it instills Hope in us and husnuszhon towards Allah.

doa is also a form of self-motivation. when we pray for something good for ourselves eg ya Allah please help me become successful in my studies, indirectly we push ourselves to do our best so our prayer comes true. we won’t pray for something we are not working towards so masyaAllah this was an interesting insight!

this talk was held pre-ramadhan, and ustazah said preparation had to begin NOW, which was a week ago haha but now now is not too late either! it’s not too early either considering insyaAllah we will try to find it in the last ten nights. however the spiritual burnout is real and nauzubillah, so let’s all keep in mind that the most loved by Allah are little but consistent deeds! youre doing great sweetie :* 

while living our nights in qiyam, asatizah reminded us to always keep ourselves and our parents in our doa. yang terbaik, amin! may we be blessed with the opportunity to live the night of power and receive blessings of a thousand months amin! ultimate level of premium gold membership masyaAllah.

4. miscellaneous

under the topic of doa actually, in our humility sometimes we would cry when asking Allah for something we really want. however there are also people who try their best to have that humility but cannot cry (like me hahaaaa so hard hearted nauzubillah) and that’s ok. sometimes it’s the peace in our heart that can be felt. 

so alhamdulillah! that’s all to share from the distinguished panelists. there were nasyid and poetry performances too which were amazinggg live spotify hahaha. this more or less helped me look forward to all the amazing goodness being offered in ramadhan, and what i can start with; having the right intentions. i really enjoyed penning this down and i hope this wont be the last! thank you, H, for spurring me on to finally act out this particular intention. may Allah bless you always all ways!!! so sayang

i was so afraid and unprepared to welcome ramadhan, still so irrationally afraid even as we’ve fasted for the first day.. going to this talk and previously the one with you at masjid Ruadhah helped me prepare a bit spiritually alhamdulillah. thank you for being there with me and for me during this journey! maybe i am afraid i won’t live up to my best behaviour. maybe i am so afraid of feeling lonely. maybe i am so afraid of.....idk actually what i’m afraid of. in spite of all that, i hope you, me and everybody else will have a blessed ramadhan ahead and do our best to give our best, insyaAllah

Yes, I slept well today. I took a rest from fics, so today I slept long and now I feel better. Did you sleep well?

Omg, anyway it’s sounds really interesting! We actually haven’t the things like school clubs in Russia. So, I’m really curious~ And you’re so cool! You do so many things, amazing! What club do you belong to? O, and I also played table tennis. x) 

As I said, I really love New Year! It’s a big Russian fest, we also have New Year holidays! I also like this time, because we have 3 three holidays in a row: New Year (31 of December and 1 of January), Christmas (7 of January) and Old New Year (13-14 of January). And I can just eat my favourite food, have a rest and receive gifts. Really nice time!~ 

Hm… Besides New Year we have Easter, Christmas, Old New Year Labor Day and Victory Day. But my family celebrate just  Easter, Christmas, Old New Year. What about Malaysia?

hello Tilli!! im so sorry about the late replies... these past few days have been very busy but im free now as ive finished everything! its such a relief, and now i can spend my time freely. i did indeed sleep well these past few nights, and im glad you have too :)

ahhh the event has kept me very busy as me and my club always have meetings to discuss about it and plan, but yes!! its pretty fun, and i hope it will go well :) i do celebrate christmas with my friends,, and its a pretty big holiday here too. but i dont celebrate it as my main holiday at home.

awww i see! i hope those will become a thing in russia too, since it’s quite fun, what club would you join, if it were? there are stuff like science club, literature club, etc. in my school, but im part of the leo club, which is a pretty old and popular club... its a club that plans events and social services (like beach cleanups, hospital visits, christmass/other festival events, etc.) i may not be explaining it properly, so maybe if you google “leo club” you can see better hahah. our logo is a picture of two lions :> omg thats great!! table tennis is fun. besides chess and table tennis, do you play anything else?? whats your favourite subject in school, Tilli-chan?

oh we have those too, but our main festivals are chinese new year, hari raya aidilfitri, christmas, deepawali (or sometimes known as diwali) and other minor holidays, but those are the main ones with the most festivities and fun.
