Pick your least favorite! Pt 3
Sorry I missed some! There’s also the villains that I honestly didn’t really think were that prominent, but made it into the Epcot attraction so they should have a place here

So, in the EPCOT interactive game DuckTales World Showcase Adventure, there are seven countries with a different mystical artifact- the Seven Plunders of the World- hidden in each one. It’s basically a scavenger hunt, and the player (‘Adven-sharer’, as the Ducks call them) looks for clues to help the Ducks find each treasure and thwart a variety of villains from stealing them. The enemies are a mix of regular/recurring villains and one-time villains from certain episodes. The seven countries in the game are Mexico, Norway, Germany, France, Japan, and China.
Tumblr media
When I watched all the videos of them on YouTube, I was delighted to learn that Gyro and Fenton are in the game too! They aren’t in every country/mission, though- Gyro is in the France mission and Fenton is in the Japan mission.
…I was shocked that Gyro isn’t in the Japan mission, because of his significant association with Japan revealed in the season 3, episode 6 episode ‘Astro B.O.Y.D.’! ‘Astro B.O.Y.D’ took place in Japan, which was not only where Gyro suffered a traumatic past that changed him for the worse (his backstory is so good, and explains why he became the embittered, distant, and seemingly arrogant present-day Gyro), but also where he ended up gaining closure about his past, the beautiful beginnings of much-needed character development and healing, and the beautiful beginnings of a relationship with his robot son Boyd at the end of the episode. If Gyro had’ve been in the Japan mission of DuckTales World Showcase Adventure, maybe we could have also gotten a Boyd reference or even a cameo, which would’ve been fantastic because that little guy and his relationship with Gyro are both criminally overlooked.
It turned out that Gyro's role in DuckTales World Showcase Adventure (where he still wasn't given much character development, but was still hilariously snarky as usual XD) was in the France mission instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sooo, no Gyro (or Boyd) in the Japan mission. But surely Akita is the bad guy for that one, right? You know, this guy? Guy responsible for forcing Boyd to be a killer robot and destroying Tokyolk?
Tumblr media
I mean, that should've been the obvious choice, right?? Sure, he’s only a one-time villain, but three other one-time villains were brought back for the game to represent their respective nations (Toad Liu Hai for the China mission, the Kelpies for the United Kingdom mission, and Hecka- one of the Valhalla wrestlers the family faced in ‘Rumble for Ragnarok’- for the Norway mission).
Wrong! The villains for the Japan mission were the Beagles and Mark Beaks (which make zero sense), who’d teamed up to steal the Illustrated Scroll of Quackagawa from the temple where it was stored. (More ‘Astro B.O.Y.D.’ erasure, ugh) Turns out Ma Beagle had Beaks design a robot lookalike of Webby to steal the treasure and frame the real Webby at the same time. The plan was for the Beagles to sell Beaks the Scroll so he could “add it to his extensive collection of rare historical manga.” Ok, then…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, neither Gyro, Boyd, or Akita were even mentioned in the Japan mission, but we did get one reference to ‘Astro B.O.Y.D.’! A very quick image of Inspector Tezuka (silent recycled footage from that episode) while Dewey was explaining that “local police think that the real Webby took the Scroll because the bot looks exactly like her.” So, that was pretty neat!
Tumblr media
Ok, I admit that Fenton was the second-best choice for the Japan mission. Fenton’s role in this mission? Well... once Beaks learned how dangerous the Scroll’s powers were, he stupidly decided to use the robot to activate those powers because “that story would be trending for at least an hour!” So, they needed a “robot expert” to help them stop the robot.
Still, you’d think Gyro would be that robot expert, right? I mean, duh. It’s Gyro, c’mon, who else?! DX All the more reason for him to be in this mission, and they blow it again. It takes place in Japan and involves an evil robot, and they don’t use him??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(At this point, Fenton should have reminded them that Gyro's the real robotics expert)
Tumblr media
Well, ok, by “robot expert”, Huey was actually hinting that Fenton could handle it because he’s Gizmoduck (which Dewey clarified)- a superhero in a robotic suit of armor, which would be more than a match for the robot imposter of Webby.  Fair enough, I admit. I mean, Fenton’s role in this does make sense when you consider that. But still… it’s Gyro, man.
Quit squandering all these perfect opportunities to feature him (and Akita), DuckTales team!! DX
And even if Gyro still was banned from Japan at the end of 'Astro B.O.Y.D.' (even tho he was instrumental in saving the day and it was revealed the '2-BO' incident was neither his or Boyd's fault), there was no reason for Akita not to be in the Japan mission!!
Oh, and this post also explains how it was also a missed opportunity for them to reveal Akita ending up in F.O.W.L. in the show.

“It’s nothing.” (For any of the duck boys, from Webby (whereverthemusetakesme). From the meme ^^)  - ✩ { @whereverthemusetakesme } ✩
✩ { Meme } ✩
{ ☆ } “Riiiiiiight...” Chimes an unconvinced voice, Huey not even bothering to hide his skepticism. True, Webby isn’t like most people he knows. For one thing, she’s stronger than them. Both physically and in spirit. For another thing, she’s scarier than most. An intimidating figure capable of shaking a hand or snapping a spine within an instant, veiled behind a bubbly exterior and cute bow. But no matter how strong, capable, and ridiculously varied in skill-set she might be... she’s still a person. Like him, like Fenton, like everyone.
More or less. Mind flickers to robots and beings made of shadow, but the sentiment stands. And as a person, Webby isn’t indestructible. Throughout his life, Huey has had this fact hammered in his head. By an overprotective Uncle, the lingering shadow of a missing mother, the hardships of being the ‘responsible’ brother, and nowadays- by the non-stop hurricane of chaos and danger adventure that has become their norm. People get hurt. A lot.
Therefore, it’s Huey’s responsibility to try and alleviate this as much as possible.
Tumblr media
“Webby, that’s-” Hand impatiently motions at the obviously injured girl, brows furrowed and tone blunt, “-not nothing. That’s is very much something. In fact, that’s the most something that’s been encountered all day.” It’s been a rather slow one around the manor. Well, for the boys. Come to think of it, he hadn’t known where Webby ran off to. Huey had been engaged with writing an article for the Woodchuck Weekly, in an attempt to earn his Journalism Badge. After scouring the manor for somewhere quiet, away from Dewey’s rambunctious show and Louie’s incredibly loud ‘conference calls’— as the youngest brother was cryptically calling them —he had FINALLY managed to find somewhere secluded...
Luckily for Webby, or unluckily, depending on how she feels about being nagged, she had wandered directly into the eldest’s temporary lair. In what Huey can only guess was her own quest for solitude... Eyes rolling in exasperation, he picks up his trusty guidebook from underneath his hat and says, “I don’t know what in the world you were doing, but you obviously shouldn’t have been doing it alone. Junior Woodchuck Rule seventy-eight: Safety in numbers.” Rapidly flipping through the pages, gaze speedily scans them as he adds, “And McDuck Family Rule number one: Always bring along a buddy when embarking on an adventure, no matter how small or non-dangerous it may seem to you.”
Tumblr media
Does he sound a bit snippy? Possibly... Only because he’s not too keen on another person being lost due to lack of foresight. Still, Huey closes his eyes, finger stalling on a page and a deep breath escaping him as he says in a more controlled tone, “Look, Webby... I- I know that you’re one of the toughest most resilient people in the entire world. But I just- I-” I worry. I’m scared. I don’t know how to keep everyone safe. “I’ll just... get you fixed up, alright?” Gaze raises to meet Webby’s, a ‘self-assured’ smile plastering itself on Huey’s face as he throws aside all attempts at explaining. It wouldn’t help anyone anyway.
“Luckily, I happen to have my First Aid Badge and am well-versed in the ways of medicinal science. Both chemically created, completely natural and I’ve even been dabbling in the magical arts...” Although, he’s not too good with that last one yet. At all. With a slightly nervous laugh, he shrugs and looks back down at his book, despite having practically every word on the page memorized, “But I think I’ll just stick with commonplace first aide this time... Here’s a recipe for a wonderful salve that speeds up the healing of bruises!” { ☆ }

So, one of the (many, many) things I mean when I say I’m a Norse-obsessed nerd who gets way too excited whenever Norse mythology or Vikings are involved or even just mentioned in Disney Duckverse & Mouseverse comics or cartoons is that I love the DT2017 episode The Rumble for Ragnarok! to bits.
Asgard! Valhalla! Male and female dead heroes in Valhalla! Norse-inspired architecture! Impending Ragnarok! Vikings being crazy about wrestling, which is actually kind of weirdly fitting if you consider glima! Vikings having a sense of honor! Vikings hating overly greedy people! Beakley picking “the Shieldmaiden” as her stage name, and her costume having a winged helmet because it’s supposed to be over-the-top and kind of ridiculous and we clearly see nobody else in Valhalla wears anything like that! The person on the writing team who apparently has my same taste in mythical figures and, instead of whipping up Odin and Thor (whom I do love, too, but come on... you can’t always use them!) as usual, went, “Hey, guys, you know what would be cool? If Loki’s kids were loved and appreciated and had lots of admirers and weren’t cast away or tortured or killed!”...
Ahem.
Anyway, right after watching the episode, I already had my own headcanons about Jormungand and Hecka and Fenrir being siblings like in the myths. And about Fenrir really being the Biggest Wolf Ever but also able to transform into the Regular Wolf form we see in the episode and another, unseen Anthropomorphic Wolf form, yet preferring the Regular Wolf one during matches because the crowd loves the whole “good boy” schtick and it’s also useful to trick opponents into underestimating him. And about attitudes towards Ragnarok actually having shifted only fairly recently (for Norse standards) and Jormungand being really a pretty decent guy, just way too addicted to the crowds’ cheers and praise after millenia of being considered a monster and a harbinger of unspeakable doom, making him even more insecure and prone to get in over his head and lose control than Dewey and...
Ahem. So, anyway, some time after watching the episode, just for fun, I tried my hand at making my duck-ified versions of Loki, Angrboda, and Sigyn, to round out the family. Unfortunately I can’t draw, so I used the Ducktales: All Ducked Out game, which means my options in terms of body type, clothing, and everything else where pretty limited. So, basically, I just shrugged and went, “you know what? Since now Ragnarok is seen as a good thing but keeps getting thwarted, Loki has been freed and told to keep himself constantly available just in case the time for him to lead the Jotnar against the gods finally comes, though of course he’s still not welcome in Asgard. Which is fine for him, because he and Sigyn are running around Midgard looking for their sons, who have just been turned into regular, non-talking wolves and cast out in some area well-known for traditional wolf-hunting or something because this is Disney and also an embarrassingly self-indulgent AU. Angrboda helps them on their search, because I hate Sigyn vs Angrboda stuff and because I ship all three of them together, but generally she hangs out in Jotunheim and then she always watches her kids’ matches in Valhalla if she can make it, which means she’s the only one who still keeps to Norse style instead of adapting to Midgard fashions or mixing the two together.”
You know, normal things a normal person thinks about.
Anyway, here they are:
Loki:
Tumblr media
He’s meant to be some kind of hawk as a call-back to him borrowing Freyja's and Frigg’s falcon-cloacks on at least two separate occasions... though I’m sure it doesn’t come across that well. I would have liked to go for longer hair, but there weren’t that many styles available and I liked the two different colors thing this one had going on. If you pretend the second color is less pinkish and more reddish, it gives a kind of fiery effect --- and yeah, I know the fire association is actually pretty thin and likely more of a later thing, but it’s a popular thing and personally, I like it.
No, he’s not “Norse Satan.” He’s more like an ambiguously moral trickster who causes as much trouble as he fixes, is responsibile for the gods having a lot of cool stuff, is (equally or almost equally ambiguously moral) Odin’s blood-brother and Thor’s friend but eventually fucks up both relationships, and at one point fucks everything up so very, very, very badly that it starts the chain of events leading to Ragnarok.
Sigyn:
Tumblr media
A regular duck, to go with my long-standing headcanon that she’s a bit of a plain Jane but Loki and Angrboda love her because of her wit, passion, and unexpected chaos-loving side. I like to think her necklace was gifted to her by Loki when they were courting, and is the one flashy thing she’s always comfortable wearing no matter the occasion.
No, there is absolutely nothing in the myths about her being forced or tricked into marrying Loki or him abusing her. Sure, she is not happy with some of his actions and their consequences for both of them, but she voluntarily sticks with him and protects him from having acidic venom constantly poured all over him.
Angrboda:
Tumblr media
A big, strong, tough jotun woman! I’ve already explained about her sticking to her Norse roots, so I’ll just say that I didn’t have any ideas about what kind of bird I should make her. I actually kinda wanted to make her a dognose or something to emphasize how WEIRD her offspring with Loki is, but... whatever, guess she’s a duck, lol.
No, she is never named as Loki’s first or second wife, and she’s never connected to Sigyn in any text so there’s nothing about the two being rivals or hating each other. So I’m completely free to imagine she’s both Loki’s and Sigyn’s girlfriend. :)

I had another DuckTales dream and this one was trippy.
I had a dream Donald got hurt so Daisy took him back to her apartment in her dimension (what the flip, brain?) to care for him and then Della showed up and her and Daisy’s personalities were like, turned up to the max. Like Daisy was hecka high-strung and Della was all kinds of little sister so at first they weren’t clickin’ but eventually they realized what they have in common is they both love Donald (albeit in very different ways) and so they learned to be friends. :3
...No but like why was Daisy from another dimension though?
