Its 2:30 am for me rn and as I'm sleepiness I came to realize

Elfs are tall independently when compared to humans, hobbit and dwarves right? Right. Now the thing that got me tweaking is... how tall and large do the animals/companions have to be? Can average size horses be ridden by them? If they invited human/hobbit/dwarf!reader to ride with them on the same horse (Yk for romantic reasons) would they have to go through an awkward "do you need a leg up?" ??

But worst of all: how tall and large is Huan?!?!?

When I read silmarilion fics I always think of reader as being human unless stated otherwise; now I'm 4'11", how ridiculous but true would it be to have mf Celegorm with the most ironic half smile saying "you don't even need a horse! Just ride Huan"

Same. I've also thought about this since I tend to view the elves all over 7 feet (213cm). They must ride horses of similar height and size, which means that there were horses bred for the elves and humans, respectively.

For elves, they can have horses as huge as the Shire horse, the Clydesdale, or the Belgian Draft. Those are massive horses and can reach heights of 213cm and more which makes them perfect for the elves. Huan could also be of similar height and size since it was said that he could be ridden.

So, for short humans like us, we would require a footstool, aka, the elves, to give us a lift onto these mammoth-sized horses. Of course, there were mortals around the first age who were as tall as the elves, so they’d ride horses for the elves instead of regular breeds for humans to ride.

So I was thinking about the whole elves-being-naturally-prettier-than-humans thing because that was always sort of weird to me when I FINALLY think I figured it out.

Humans used to know about the elves, and there are some things they still remember—hence myths about Atlantis and such. Reality is, humans and elves resembled each other in a lot of ways, but elves put themselves on a pedestal as better than every other species (that’s, like, canon, and better be addressed more fully at some point?) and that’s probably a part of the reasons humans “betrayed” the elves—they got sick of hearing that elves were better.

But it was just sort of implanted in their minds, though they weren’t fans of the idea, and elves didn’t go to great lengths to erase that idea from their minds. So humans remember myths and some things about elves, and Atlantis being the underwater city………and beauty standards.

It’s not that elves are naturally prettier than humans. It’s that human beauty standards are shaped around the natural looks of elves.

Heigh comparisons for the elves in my “pushing my miriel and thranduil are twins agenda” and “4 silvan sibs” au.

Cloudryad looks so small, but she’s one of the only ones to have a normal height.

Oropher is a tall boy, and only slightly shorter than his nephew elwe.

Miriel and thranduil are identical twins, except thranduil’s trans so of course they’re the same height.

Lasgen somehow being the exact height of her father was interesting.

Lirion got some of those oropher genes, though not enough to break 7ft.

Kleoyia’s still resonably tall for most people, but she’s on the shorter side of the family.

Legolas is eternally pissed for not only being the youngest but also the shortest of his siblings.

“Elves are aliens” is a fun bit of Golarion lore

“Elves can adapt to any environment in a single generation” is an even more fun one. They’re basically cockroaches.

I'm still Halsin posting, but back to his family loved him a lot, I think they had a special longbow made for him that was a bit bigger and thicker stringed than the others made for his brothers and sisters (and with his childhood name written delicately on the inside, though there's no way you'd confuse his for any of theirs), so he could hunt without any problem (he may have snapped a string or two - he was still getting used to his own strength then).

He hasn't seen the bow in centuries, but he can still remember how it felt in his hands and its weight and the catching of the carvings over his fingers.

If the elves are like 220cm to 260cm and the valar are taller to assert their dominance of course (Morgoth taller than Manwe but still shorter than Varda ha!)

It means they can't fit inside our "humanized houses/rooms". They'll have to say hi from the second floor windows.

I had to sit down and think this one out, thoroughly.

Considering the average floor-to-ceiling height in a house is between 10–12ft (304–365cm), I know for some people it’s more, all of the elves should be able to fit under our roofs. But they’ll be knocking their heads on the frames/beams or ceiling fans like Gandalf lol. They’ll also have to crawl through our doors for sure...but they’re also huge so they probably can’t squeeze through our humanized doors hehe. Just recall Gandalf in Bilbo’s house and that’s what it would look like with them in our house.

Maybe a few of the Ainur who are around 10ft can fit. The rest are gonna have to camp outside. Just imagine inviting your Ainur to a sleep over and when they show up asking where they’re gonna stay, you tell them outside.

Or if they’re able to fit in our rooms, they’re curled up in a corner awkwardly. They might probably become claustrophobic due to how tiny our houses are 😅

Human-sized houses are dollhouses for the elves and ainur!!
