Someone's getting very excited to watch Perky's Buds...
(Ssshhh... don't tell him that's italian seasoning spinkled onto facial pads. I didn't have the heart to tell him that's what the sniggles brought and now I'm afraid he'll strike me down if he finds out the truth)
Our watch party starts in TWO HOURS!!

Uhhh... Did Emma Cause "Yellowjacket"?
I really love “Yellowjacket” (Lex’s storyline connects on a genuinely painful level), but it’s always struck me that the Gift seems to be more wide-spread in that story than in any of the others. What if that’s because of Emma? After all, the Nightmare Time 2 timeline is the only one we know of in which Emma starts her pot farm in the Witchwood. (Full theory under the cut 'cause it's a couple of paragraphs)
In “Perky’s Buds,” a lot of Bob Metzger’s monologue makes it sound like the touch of the Gift is something you’re either born with or you’re not. But right at the end he says “when you cut down those trees, you opened the floodgates. Now every teeny-bopper in town is susceptible to this malady.” “Teeny-bopper” is very much slang for a teen, not an infant, and that has to be purposeful. So what if it’s less that you’re born with a touch of the Gift, and more that you’re born with “susceptibility” to it? Hannah and Lex, highly powerful and connected to Willabella Muckwab, were susceptible enough to be Gifted even with the Witchwood at full strength, but maybe kids like Sophia or Daniel weren’t. Perhaps Bob was completely right and Emma did indeed “open the floodgates,” allowing the Gift-causing magic to seep through Hatchetfield like something in the air. And then something else inside of certain kids responded—creating the small legion of (mind-milk-dependent) junior super-heroes we meet in “Yellowjacket.”
Sure, it seems like the roller-rink set-up has been up and running for a bit (Eddie mentions buying Pizza Pete’s a few months before the story starts), but so has Perky’s Buds. It took time to clear all those trees and plant the crop, and we know that Emma was up and fully operational before the summertime Honey Festival, whereas “Yellowjacket” takes place “months later” in October. So maybe while Emma was busy achieving her dreams and then going to jail, Charles, manipulated by Pokotho, arrived in town to find the perfect assortment of test subjects emerging out of nowhere right in front of him. It’s not the most obvious of timelines, but it just might work.
(In another, more out-there extension of this theory, perhaps Emma’s also the reason for the shiny, upscale high-rise that Ethan moves their family into. All those high-rollers regularly visiting town need somewhere to stay, after all. And Charles has the resources to build something fast.)
So, yeah, between Emma cutting down the trees and Ezekiel ensuring that no Metzgers are still around to plant any more Gifted kids (thank God), maybe “Perky’s Buds” directly set the stage for “Yellowjacket." Just something I noticed and thought was cool. And it would totally explain why it’s important that "Perky’s Buds" and "Yellowjacket" take place in the same timeline.

Tell me why I JUST made the connection between Zeke the Fightin’ Nighthawk and Ezekiel’s names.

Wait Ezekiel probably named himself after the Hatchetfield High mascot, right?
I mean, the mascot's name is literally Zeke, which besides being my puppy's name is also a shortened version of Ezekiel.
Like, I can just imagine this little nighthawk thinking about the football field, stoned out of his little bird brain, before suddenly remembering that one giant bird that was seemingly so beloved. Isn't that what he wants? Wouldn't that just be the perfect name for a leader like him?
And then he changes it to Ezekiel because it sounds more intimidating or some shit.

Ezekiel had only been in his human form for little more than two weeks, but he felt he was getting the hang of it. Tanner was of course hanging around persistently as ever, cawing and flapping wings whenever he could. It didn't bother Ezekiel though. The bird human was of course never going to give up what he had now. Nor was he ever going to help Tanner return to a human body. Instead Ezkiel was looking to build whatever following he could have of other gifted individuals who'd be able to help tear apart Emma all of the human race. Emma first, of course.
That's what led him to finding this peculiar ghost. A boy. Mischievous, troublesome, perfect for causing the mayhem he may need to start his climbing. He and Tanner had arrived at where reports of this 'haunting' were taking place. The ruffled Nighthawk sat on Ezekiel's shoulder with wide alert as the bird brained human stepped into the building, calling out after coming to a stand still, "I know you're in here." His voice is pointed, crisp, almost too practiced, "You're scare tactics won't work on the likes of me--"
@coastercrushed spun the wheel nine times and got Ezekiel!

It’s Zeek the fighting nighthawk!!
And Ezekiel, the murderous telepathic nighthawk.
Is Zeek short for Ezekiel? Maybe. Maybe it’s just a coincidence. I want there to be a reason for this though
