My one contribution to the Goncharov Phenomena is, I’ve seen people comment on how Tumblr only managed to have a nuanced conversation about a piece of media when the piece of media doesn’t exist, but...

I can’t help but think. It just isn’t the same people.

The people who bother to make memes examining the complexity of Goncharov are the same people who enjoy examining the complexity of actual media, who have been here doing that forever, who already knew how to handle a subtle take.

It’s just that the people who would usually come crashing in and derail the whole thing aren’t saying anything, because, well, faking nuanced interpretation is fun for its own sake, but faking moral outrage isn’t. 

I don’t think it’s so much that Tumblr finally learned how to handle a nuanced take, I think it’s more that the fakeness of Goncharov automatically filters out people who can’t  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's SO annoying people keep saying Valery and Katya are siblings just because the first draft of the script gives her maiden name as Michailova. That version of the script has Valery's as Gerasimov (not Michailov like in the final film). They clearly changed it by the time they were shooting, and Katya's maiden name isn't mentioned at all in the final film or the shooting script. Katya even says to Valery "your parents", like wouldn't she say "our parents"?

It's just so annoying to watch this become popular fanon when it's totally outdated and outright contradicted by the film. I don't know why everyone just latched onto it. Like, is it because people find Valery threatening to the popular ships? Like, I'm a Valery/Katya shipper, so you can trust me when I say that he isn't a threat at all. The fact that it can never happen is the appeal of Valery/Katya, like, literally, he's not a threat to the fan favorite ship. (Valery/Katya and Katya/Sofia actually enhance each other, they can and do coexist.) You all don't need to use non-canon shit to justify shipping something else, have some faith in yourself.

Ian couldn't possibly sink further into the wall but even if he could, would it have done anything to stop the vampire currently leaning over him?

He'd close his eyes to avoid having to watch his own demise but damn it if this wasn't the sexiest vampire he'd ever seen.

Blue Eyes got frustrated when Ian didn't seem as scared as he clearly expected him to be.

"The fuck's the matter with you?" he barked, his fangs shimmering in the moonlight.

"Nothing, please proceed," Ian said, craning his neck to give Blue Eyes better access.

The pressure increased when the vampire leaned in closer but nothing happened.

What was he waiting for?

"Do you need me in another position?" Ian asked, though he was unable to move with the vampire keeping him pinned to the wall. "I can turn around if you prefer to take me from behind."

"No thanks," Blue Eyes said, quirking an eyebrow. "You gonna offer me some napkins next?"

"Would you like some?" Ian asked, thinking of the diner he'd past by earlier. It looked like they did good burgers in that place.

"You carry napkins on you?"

"No, but I do have some condoms on me, actually."

"Oh, so that what's in your pockets," the vampire said, his eyes moving down. "I was wondering what that bulge was. Seemed too big to just be your cock."

"The condoms are in my back pocket."

"Oh." The vampire seemed to rethink his decision to have Ian as a starter tonight. "How about you invite me back to yours and you show me everything you've got hidden away in those pockets, huh?"

"Deal," Ian said, happy to fuck his way out of a sticky situation. "And maybe I can be the vampire and you be my victim?"

"Only if when you bite me, you do it from behind, fire crotch."
