So I saw a post about this concept and thought it would make for a interesting ask. Magical damage, like a necromancers fingers slowly turning black and losing sensation or a wizard with lighting bolt scares across their arms. What dose it look like when Arnoss, Zarunpel, Sezashi and Dancing-Hands push their magic beyond what their bodies can handle?
I find this question funny because of all my characters you could have picked, those are probably the ones that can strain their magic the least! So instead, let's talk about why they don't really do that, and we'll touch on the question! But I do appreciate the effort of narrowing down your questions to some characters for the copy-paste when it comes to my inbox, it hasn't gone unnoticed.
Most of the magic for Arnoss and Zarunpel is passive.
Zarunpel's "blessing" from the Wilds might not even function under the same rules as traditional magic, it follows more narrative rules. It affects her body and hair in many ways, but when it comes to the limits of it, it often is more about what would make a better story. She's stronger than someone that looks like her should be, but depending on what she has to do, the exact degree to which this is true varies. As long as it's somewhat reasonable, in important situations she's often just strong enough or almost but not there, depending which tells a "better" story. Of course, she has no idea how that works.
As far as her spellcasting, it's mostly temporary protection spells, they're more likely to be cast too late or not last long enough than to hurt her when she overuses them. Which means she or whatever she's protecting gets hurt the way it otherwise would have been. When the Urborg panther living in her shadow gets "killed" or banished in some ways, Zarunpel can also be left without a shadow for a time while Vel reconstitutes.
Similarly, Arnoss's magic is mostly passive buffing and reinforcing his scales, when it is overstrained, he gets hurt the normal way. However, it also depends on how many people need and want his help nearby, and in some cases that can be overwhelming to feel during major disasters in populated areas. So many people needing help and he can't help all of them. And he's found that when he tries to help all of them in a city when it's not a disaster, he exhausts himself going from one to the other for hours and days, there's always something in large population centers.
Sezashi has a hard cap on the number of spells he can maintain at once, at four, represented by the floaty objects that orbit him. While some are harder to maintain than others (maintaining multiple charges of the same nature on someone else requires concentration and effort), the failure point is usually just that one or multiple of the spells slip and come back to him, and he probably isn't in a state to reuse them just yet. With that said, premature failure of magic that can manipulate sizes and create duplicates is generally not a good idea, plenty of unfortunate timings possible. Also duplicates that are ended in this way don't fuse back as cleanly to the original, which certainly causes headache and can cause the loss of memories the duplicate had.
Dancing-Hands's innate telekinesis can be overpowered or overwhelmed, but it's very difficult, and it generally doesn't strain the kitsune much to use. Using it on non-physical things is more relevant here. It only works on nonliving elements. Using it on eldrazis, even scions and briefly, made him feel sick and gave him headaches, and he couldn't sustain it for more than a few seconds. He rediscovered how to use it on magical effects not too long ago, and that has taken a lot more out of him, and could potentially replicate or redirect harmful effects to him if he's not careful. The telekinesis itself is invisible if not for its effects.
As far as his Kanji magic, well, he typically only uses ink, and on paper, but much more powerful and dangerous opportunities are possible when this type of magic is used with blood (or other living material) and on living tissue. Be it using his paper blade on himself or drawing with his own blood on paper, the result would be white paper and fur marred in reds. It's not something he'd ever want to do, but in theory, it's possible.

Oh I love the idea of a gothic horror plane of secrets, where the people live in ignorance of the darkness festering just below the cobblestone they walk. Is it just the monsters that the people are kept in dark about, or is the very existence of magic suppressed? Are there like secret societies that keep the people ignorant to it all? Is this a situation where the more people that know about the darkness the stronger it grows?
Not monsters, per se, not in the Innistrad sense, at least. The forces behind the plane feed on its residents’ psyches.
Magic is practiced, but less commonly than on other planes. Too much progress in certain magical areas could be a threat to the arrangement.

🍲🍥
🍲When did you start writing and why?
In general, it would’ve been maybe 1990 and because of a school assignment. Shameless ripoff of pop-culture elements at the time, but enough that teachers were minorly impressed.
A more relevant answer would have been 2015, when a random inspiration from a question of “Can MTG Planeswalkers become planeswalkers from positive experiences, or is it only trauma?”. This was the inception of Liya as a character, and I basically started writing and designing from that day on. (Also, I cheekily suspect it may have also inspired the creation of The Wanderer, so I fully accept credit for that 😅)
The post in question, from @dougbeyermtg’s blog:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🍥What's your favorite fic you've written?
So while To Tame A Tiger is far and away the most popular work I’ve written, I consider Future Past my strongest writing to date. It’s really helped set up a number of plot elements, but beyond that, I don’t think it’s all that bad either.
Thanks for the ask, @yrael!

Congratulations! Your OCs have joined social media! What platform are they on, what’s their username, and what’s their posting style?
This one is fun! I might go on vibes more than full details.
Rhynn would want to be able to make posts (and or videos) about travels and the creatures she encounters. She’d be kind of a mix between a sci-comm type account/travelog with some personal stories here and there as well.
Elrick would have a very useful and informative page for his shop that he keeps updated at all times. I could also see him having secret personal accounts on like a blogging site talking about gardening, wine, and tea. He possibly would also get into fights about very niche things in these topics on some sort of Reddit equivalent.
I could see Helis having multiple. He would potentially have a vine/tiktok type account where he’s pulling pranks, starting or finding random drama, and doing weird but impressive stuff with cooking. I could see him have a slightly more in depth cooking account where he does random experiments but are sometimes pretty good (kinda Guga Foods vibes if you’ve every watched his videos). He’d maybe also have an accounting where he could gush about Poulios/autumn-related things.
I don’t think Breeze could have her own accounts but maybe she convinces Rhynn or another friend to attach a GoPro to her so she can show off her adventures sometimes!
Tali, if she had one, would very much have a show-off type account. Always done up very nice, showing off where she is visiting, her new outfits, cool items she’s ‘acquired’, fancy foods she’s eating etc. She would be torn between wanting to do the influencer thing for popularity/free stuff and wanting to more easily remain anonymous.
Penny would do so much music-related things! She would love those music splice colabs that are on TikTok so much!

seeing as it is the spooky season I thought I would ask about the time your OC was the most afraid.
Happy Halloween!
I think if we're talking about my fanwalker, Joseph, it would have to be the night his spark ignited.
He was a child, only eight years old, and it started when he was woken up by some sounds coming from behind his family's home. His father went out to investigate, and from the window, Joseph and his mother watched in horror as a vampire came from their chicken coop and attacked his father.
In a frenzy, his mother rushed him and his little brother to the cellar to hide, but the vampire knew better. Before long, it had broken into the cellar, and Joseph was made to watch as it attacked both his mother and his little brother.
When the vampire finally turned its attention to him, soaked in the blood of his family, Joseph's spark ignited, and he crashed head first into a rock on the shard of Bant on the plane of Alara.
Joseph has since seen many horrific things - from a mother gryff being mauled to death by werewolves to the way a group of zealous cathars slaughtered a coven of seemingly innocent witches. Joseph has even taken part in some horrific acts he, at the time, did not realize the depth of.
However, the night of his sparking made him realize the horrors of the multiverse, and ever since then, nothing has quite hit him as hard, no matter how horrific those events may be.
Tumblr media
Here is a Sparker Planeswalker card I created for Joseph, which depicts the night of his sparking in question.

So tell us about your new esper sphinx walker? 👀
@leafdrake-haven @thetabbybadger
For those of you who do not know I have been thinking of retiring my old nyxborn sphinx walker and replacing him with a new sphinx walker. I still love Niphorbis but his backstory is so complex and has such a feel of finality to it, I never know what to do with him.
My new panes-walker is named Anise she is a crime novelist from New Capenna, with ties to the Obscura.
Being from New Capenna her look is very much inspired by the nineteen twenties. She has that iconic bob cut from the era peeking out around a cloche hat. The fur around his neck is very thick and fluffy giving the illusion of a fur coat and she often wears a pearl necklace. By sphinx standers she would be consider a bit of a runt as from her head to her hunches she is maybe five seven, five eight? Her build is very much more house cat then big cat.
Her personality is also very atypical of a sphinx as she is chatty, bubbly and a bit of a nosey gossip. Anise herself often says she never made for a good sphinx. That being said she dose have the spices obsession with mysteries and riddles. Though she tends to philosophies on such mysteries less then she enjoys tugging at their strings until they unravel like a ball of yarn.
She is very much inspired by flappers and Agatha Christie.
Anise makes her living writing crime novels under a number of pen names, her most favors being the mysterious Tabitha Badgers. She never uses her real name as her novels are often based off the activates of the other crime families, she snoops out. Though ever since she got her spark Anise has been brining the stories of the multiverse back to New Cappena. Recently she has been writing a novel based on the Dragon Maze, recasting Tajic as a private investigator.
Magic wise Anise has the mind magic found on most of her species as well as the Obscura observation magic she uses to gather the information needed to write her novels. But Anise also uses a form a literary magic that lets her imbue properties onto things by writing on them with enchanted ink. Examples of which would be writing Melt on stone to turn it into lava, or light as a feather to turn a heavy burden into a light one.
Mechanically Anise makes both Inklings and clue tokens as well as having interactions with scrying and surveilling. The big thing Anise dose is shenanigans with keyword abilities, such as sharing them among creatures you control or making keyword tokens.

Recently I went around asking about your ocs childhoods so it’s only logical to now ask what you think your ocs will be like once they reach old age?
Tumblr media
When Sophia gets older she would hang up her adventuring armor and cloak and take over as the Azorius leader. Her life has been extended from the angel DNA that is spliced into her so she has seen many a friend grow old and lost some along the way, but she still holds them close to her heart.

Ugh and the WORST PART is that I have an IDEA now for combating Compleation, at least combating the mind-fuckery that Norn did (fuck canon it's my canon now and I have THOUGHTS) and it involves fucking SparkBonds and I'm like...
I get to do Compleated!Avery AND all of Avery's SparkBond fuckery like we have Avery and Jace and their Bond being fucked up by Norn and then we have poor Liliana having to deal with that and THEN. And THEN.
We have an opportunity for Tezzeret to not only fuck over Norn BIG TIME... We have a chance for my favorite evil man to do the right thing for 100% selfish reasons and I am. So here. For it....

Now that March of the Machine story has been fully released I can ask, how did your ocs weather the Phyrexia invasion of the multiverse?
I'm actually currently writing a story about what my ocs did during the Phyrexian Arc, Shadows of the Multiverse. Links in my pinned post.
I'd love to answer this question but it would be major spoilers for that story.

Love is in the air, so I would love to hear your ocs thoughts on the subject of romance~
Cypheus: This man develops a crush on every 3rd person he meets. He loves the idea of going out on dates, sharing sweets and deserts, and watching the sunset cuddled up with a person he cares about. Cypheus frequently daydreams about finding love, but he travels far to much to settle down and meet someone.
Ahmeral: has only ever been in love with himself.
Malain: Loves love, they would watch romance movies all day if they could. Malain jumps at the opportunity to listen about their friends love lives, or even pitch in with romantic advice. However, they themselves are incredibly bashful when feelings are expressed towards them.
Aderick: Is in love with Ingdiir and has made it everyone's problem, especially hers.
Ingdiir: Pretends to think romance is overrated and refuses to admit she likes Aderick back.
Karesh: Though he'd like to settle down one day and get married, he's already a little to married to his work. Karesh has a "One Day..." approach to romance.
Ventir: Believes romance is a silly thing that he needn't pay mind to (desperately lonely).
Emerick: Actively searching for love, not that he's lonely, but he believes any home is better when shared with a loved one.
Xiltas: Xiltas' history with love is a dangerous one. He fell madly in love once long ago and tragedy befell his lover. And he is willing to tear the multiverse apart to get him back.
Maharabh and Prophet are aro/ace, and Chydle is an actual plant that reproduces asexually and has not discovered the concept of romance.

Happy Mother’s Day, what was Dancing-Hands, Arnoss, Nyrhen, Farell and Vaalin mothers like?
Mother's day isn't for another few weeks.
-Dancing-Hands's mother was, in her younger years, an imperial guard as they were investigating the Kami rifts during the Era of Enlightenment with the Jukai's help. After the creation of the Merge gates, she married a kitsune of the Jukai she had worked with, who later became Dancing-Hands' father. She was the one to initially introduce Dancing-Hands to origami, but their relationship didn't fare too well along the years. His parents had very little authority on Dancing-Hands come his forties, and she regrets what happened to him. They've met again since and she knows he's alive, but it's been tough to rebuild things.
-Arnoss didn't have a singular "mother", that's not how the Family's typically raises children, he was under the care of all the adult Beldruns. As far as biological parents, he's never met his mother (at least he doesn't think so), his egg was bought from another family that couldn't support any more Ghavaleks. This is also not uncommon in the Family between caravans that trust each other.
-Nyrhen's mother was incredibly proud of her boy, even if he didn't do anything particularly glamorous or important. He was always Perfect to her eyes. Also she was a Lorwyn elf, so, y'know, the baggage that comes with that. Weapon-carver, some of which were deemed worthy of being used by Perfects.
-Farell's mom is Lady Leana Javori, born Bassola. She's cunning, positive, and confident. She's well-versed in politics and etiquette. She uses them as she needs to, but isn't fond of what comes with it, so she sometimes ignores convention when she thinks they're wrong.
Her birth name is an old, powerful and respected one on Fiora, and she very much married under her station when she did a newly ennobled merchant and had to give up her name for his when she did. She further mudded her name by carrying to term a bastard child from a shapeshifter who tricked her, and giving him her birth name. Despite the events of that night, she loves Farell just as much as she does her human children. She encouraged Farell into finding his own way, to be proud and keep his head high. The aristocracy may see him as lesser, but it's their loss if they underestimate her eldest son.
-Vaalin's mother was killed during the current phyrexian invasion, so he's still processing that, especially considering he had to keep working after learning of her death, alone in his head for long periods of time. She was a Vodalian merfolk from the Volshe caste, a mathematician, who had briefly studied at Tolaria (of the Depths). She joined a diplomatic mission to the surface world and met Vaalin's father, a human, there. She laid Vaalin's egg not too long after coming back from that year-long expedition. Knowing the xenophobic caste system underlying Vodalian society would be very harsh on a half-human, she sought refuge for her and her child in Tolaria's waters, where minds were more progressive.
There, she raised her child by herself within the Academy's reach, trying her best to shield him from the disdain and hatred that inevitably filtered through even in the school. Most students at Tolaria of the Depths have vodalian origins and culture after all, be it recent or older. She had her concerns when he specialized in temporal studies and might have tried to push him towards more practical studies. His achievements of the past few years on Dominaria and other worlds had placated her doubts though.

Now that March of the Machine story has been fully released I can ask, how did your ocs weather the Phyrexia invasion of the multiverse?
Unless we later here that literally every plane was invaded, which I don’t think was the case, my boring answer will be that Firellan’s plane was not directly affected. But I reserve the right to change that later! I could incorporate it into his sparking, Quintorius-style…

Do any of your oc's believe in fate and if so what are their thoughts on it?
Klaus sort of does! He was taught by the Omenseekers to discern the future based in its traces in the present - That which is happening now, that will lead to what will happen later. On Kaldheim, many future events have been foretold as certain to come to pass. Whether or not the logic for why this is possible on Kaldheim applies to other worlds remains to be seen. But Klaus's foresight operates under similar principles. Time is a tricky thing, and can be seen many ways without ever being quite wrong. Klaus has learned to see time through the lens of probability - Everything has a chance to happen, but whether or not it actually does is unknown. He's also seen time through the lens of alternate timelines, like time is a series of branching paths. And he has also seen time as something that he might not fully understand in the present, but is all the same something fixed and foretold. Unchanging, with an illusion of chance created by our linear perspective of time. When Klaus thinks of the last one, he thinks about how if he could only see clearly enough, every event in his life could be uncovered to him, and viewed altogether with hindsight. The big question becomes "Would I change my life? Would I try to smooth over every ache and pain before I felt it? Or did all the good things make up for the hurt?" which basically turns into "Is it better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all?" knowing that he might lose many good things in his life if he tried to remove the bad things. Klaus believes it is better to love and lose.

So before magic drops March of the Machine, and potently ruins the multiverse, I would like to know what your ocs are up to!
Honestly? I haven't the slightest clue.
Last time I really did any planning for Joseph, I decided that after War of the Spark, he took a break and finally showed his love to Pira, his aven girlfriend on Alara, choosing to settle with her a bit before doing anything else.
After that, I decided she'd fall pregnant, and in fear his child may be a werewolf like himself, Joseph admited his curse to Pira (she took it well), and returned to Innistrad to seek aide from Arlinn on the matter, as she had helped him accept his dual souls and life as a werewolf during Eldritch Moon. This happens before the events of Midnight Hunt.
After that? I have no idea. Personally, I really don't like the Phyrexians, nor the prospect of their takeover, nor the current writing of the official lore. It's all awful and depressing, seemingly for shock value.
Until it all resolves, I'm keeping Joseph where he is - doting on his expectant girlfriend on Alara and taking things slowly. If I like the resolution, I'll go from there. If not, I have only one question: what Phyrexians?

Think with all the invasion stuff you’ll compleat any of your characters? (I think I’m too attached/chicken to xD)
I'm kind of in the same boat as you @thetabbybadger I'm far to attached to my walker to complete any of them. Though I had considered have Niphorbis becoming complete do to his connection to nyx and have him pass away when the Phyrexians become inert.
But just because I have no plans to complete any of my oc dose not mean I have not put a lot of thought into what they would be like completed.
Marcel, Tender to Perfection
“I have surrendered the fleeting warming of flesh for the cold embrace of perfection.”
Not to long ago I sent you as message describing a completed Marcel well I have an update to that.
Marcel hair has become one sheet of flesh like silver fused to his lower back and around his ribs, it cloaks his upper body like a funeral lily. His upper body is now segments of perfectly smooth porcelain, jointed together like a great doll. As he moves you can see in the gaps of the joints brambles of copper, wound together in a mockery of muscle and sinew. His lower body though is now quadrupedal, green copper artistically sculpted into a mockery of a unicorn. An affront to everything Marcel ever believed in and the blessed of his home plane.
Marcel had become Elesh Norn's greatest weapon against the remains of the Mirrodin resistance, for against the cold artificialness of New Phyrexia their life force burns like a flare in the night.
When the invasion happened Marcel was tasked with brining perfection to his own home plane. Here he further proved his worth to the great work as he ability to manipulate life energies assisted in allowing the Phyrexian to overcome the Floramorians natural resistance to completion.
He would ultimately be put down by Duke Lyle, who in a brutal dragged out battle was finally able to avenge both his sons from what had happened to them. But this was not the end of Marcel's story for as he laid dying on warm stone of the castle he grew up in, the soul of Floramore heard the anguish of the soul trapped with in metal cage. She welcomed her lost child back into the embrace of the good earth, and somewhere far in the Fair Wilds a young dryad with silver hair would one day be born with a spark already ignited.
Tumblr media
Segara, Avatar of Assimilation
"Here my journey has come to an end, I have found my place within the great work."
The breathtaking albino peacock feather of Segara's mighty wings have fused together into great sheets of chrome, tipped with the eyes of gitaxias. His head is now a chrome bird skull with interlocking metal spines flowing down from it to his chest. His body is now completely smooth chrome, with the symbol of Phyrexia carved into his chest. Behind him rages a living storm of black oil vapers, the Avatar of Assimilation. Born from Segara adsorbing the magic of glistening oil into his body and with the magic of his former goddess manifesting the very avatar of Phyrexia's will.
Molycap, Mycosynth Mutation
*horrifical oily gurgles*
Molycap has fused with mycosyth to become a horrific blighted mound of death and decay. A living rot farm of fused funguses and the undead from which Phyrexian saprolings burst from that quickly skitter into the dark of the undercity to spread more of the glistening oil into Ravnica water ways.
Serrabeth, Blazing Raider
"Come now child, no more tears, sometimes you got to know when to join the winning side."
Out of all my walker Serrabeth might have joined Urabrask willingly, trading in her aging body for one of immoral iron. Most of Serrabeth body is little more then an skeletal framework with a skull and crossbones making up her chest. The rest of her is the flames of Urabrask furnace given life, oh also her left arm is now a cannon because fuck ya.
Dillan, Yawgmoth's Dream
"Soon the nightmare of flesh will come to an end and all will share the dream of Phyrexia."
Dillan lower body if formed out of porcelain plates and has become more of a bipedal satyr then the sheep centaur he used to be. A sheet of white oil stained wool rapped around his waist like a child's security blanket. His chest is made entirely out of silver as he has been fused to mother moon. Who now oily sands now flow from the gap in his chest, spreading the dream of completion.
Nivel, Phyrexia's Harmony
"Soon we shall all sing in one voice"
Nivel has been fused with a number of other Phyrexias from all of the factions, their bodies forming a sort of twisted exoskeleton around is. They are his choirs and he is their conductor. Together they sing the hymn of the Phyrexia using Nivel animation magic to bring completion even to unliving stone.
Angelique, Angel of Elesh Norn
"In the light of the five suns I have foreseen Phyrexia's victory across countless worlds."
Angelique would be twisted into a mockery of an Elspeth, her body now little more then a set of living procaine pates interlocked into a set of armor. Behind her head is a halo shaped in of the New Phyreia's symbol. From her shoulders extend two great vents from which gouts of great flames burst forth giving the illusion of wings.
Valentino, Unseen Agent
"Promises where made to me that my love would be returned to me in perfection."
No one knows what Valentino's completed form looks like and that is the point. His mastery of illusion magic has made him invaluable in infiltration pockets of resistance and destroying them from within.
Ozmander, Porcelain Patriarch
"I have served many who only keep a veneer of faith, I find no such weakness here."
The left half of Ozmander body is formed from the white of the orthodoxies porcelain, the right the black iron of the steel thanes. He is draped his the robes of a holy man tattered and dripping with black oil, his sword having been fused with his right hand where it spins in it's socket.
Anise, Phyrexias Scripter
"The story has been written, the ending planed long in advance, all will be one."
Anise body now had the skeletal build of black iron, wing of folded porcelain plates and a cap of chrome covering her eyes. She now write in glistening oil a single word on everything she sees "Completion".
