i desperately need an episode of just the Bells sitting and talking to each other and checking in and touching base and bonding. both for "i live for that shit" reasons and because the amount of lore drops the last few episodes has left me yelling "MOON?" "HAUNTED?" "CITY?" "MOON CITY?" "RED?" "CAGE GOD EGG?" with increasing fervor and decreasing coherency. my brain was not built for this. i need like 80 minutes of everyone asking each other how they're feeling and in depth 1 on 1 talks and characters Vibing. CR please.

I am thinking hard about the parallel between the dusk & fearne conversation about chetney ("chetney said I was trying to kill your parents and then he said he'd help me! what the fuck?"/ "it's okay, he won't. it's just his personality and sense of humor") and pate & laudna's conversation about ashton ("he's threatening me!"/ "he's threatening you? no, no, that's how ashton makes friends. they're very friendly. it's just how they say they care")

In The Clouds
I do not think Fearne is exactly what you would call a nightmare ler but i do think she is what you would call a problem
Dorian is picking over a late breakfast, long gone cold, when Fearne sidles up next to him in the booth, forcing him to drag his mind out of the clouds and into this moment, here, with her, and his plate of cold eggs and the gentle rocking of the skyship.
“Hi Fearne.” He moves inward to make room for her but she just moves in too—the point, then, is to sit as close to him as he’ll allow, and Fearne is soft and warm and most importantly, a friend, so he’ll allow her pretty close.
“What are you thinking about?” Fearne asks, blinking her big, beautiful doe eyes at him as she settles in.
“Oh, I don’t know,” he says. It’s not strictly true. He’s thinking about Opal and Dariax, whether they’ll be okay just the two of them. About that crown on Opal’s head.
Fearne shuffles a little closer, fairly trapping Dorian between herself and the wall of the booth, loops her arms around his waist for a long, comfortable moment.
“Are you alright?” Dorian asks, leaning his head affectionately onto hers where she’s tucked into his shoulder. Gives her a little scritch between the horns.
“Oh, I’m great,” she says. And the hands around his waist start kneading.
Dorian has no hope of controlling his instinctive squirm, or the laugh that flutters out of his chest. He wriggles a little. It does him no good.
“Um, Fearne?”
“Mm-hmm?” She raises her head from his shoulder to give him her biggest, brightest eyes again. Nothing could be more innocent.
“You’re, ah—” Another shivery laugh slips out. He bites his tongue and brings his breath back under control. “You’re tickling me.”
“I am!” She smiles serenely, almost beatific, and tickles a little harder. This time, a definite giggle slips out. “Good job noticing.”
Her hands climb a little with each squeeze until they settle somewhere in the middle of his ribs, on a spot that makes him jump every time no matter how he steels himself for it. She settles into a rhythm, one hand and then the other, making him squirm into her waiting hand every time and he can’t help it. It’s not very long before his exhales dissolve outright into soft giggling.
“Fearne,” he whines.
“What?”
“There’s people.”
“I know there’s people.” The hands climb a little higher and Dorian almost squirms under the table to get away. She’s got him well and truly boxed in. “They boarded the skyship with us, don’t you remember?”
“You’re not—” A snort slips out, and Fearne’s eyes light up, and oh no, he’s fucked now. He clears his throat, tries to set his voice back down into a more normal pitch. Fails. “You’re not funnyhehehehe.”
“Oh?” She climbs up higher, threatening his armpits, and Dorian squeezes his arms down and curls up like a shrimp and squirms and none of it helps at all. “I think we’ll see about that.”
Another snort follows the first one, and he stuffs a hand over his mouth in blatant embarrassment. Anyone can see them, right out here in the middle of the mess hall, and he’s giggling like an idiot and she won’t stop—
“No, I don’t think we’re having that,” Fearne says, and sacrifices one tickling hand to curl around his wrist and try to pull his hand free. For a second, he puts his focus into resisting that—and then the other hand sneaks up into his armpit and he squeals.
“No, no, no! Not there, not there!” His voice picks up, and a tabaxi in the next booth over glances back at them. Fearne pries his hand away from his mouth, and Dorian dives into her shoulder to hide instead. He can’t smother his laughter that way but people are looking at him, and he feels like he’s melting.
“Hmm. Okay, I think we’ll allow that,” Fearne says, and then after the longest moment in the world she slides her hands lower down, to a spot that still tickles—Gods, does it tickle—but at least doesn’t send him squealing loud enough to disturb the other patrons. “But only because you’re so cute.”
For what could be two minutes, or could be twenty, it’s just this; Dorian giggling quietly into Fearne’s shoulder while she coos words into his hair that sound suspiciously like praise, snorts tumbling out of him like the floodgate is wide open and he can’t even find it again to try and close it. Then there’s a familiar shuffling of a little body sliding into the seat across from them.
“I was wondering where you two had gotten off to,” Orym says. Fearne just keeps on tickling steadily away, like Dorian might not want to say something, and he’s almost too boneless to even squirm.
“Dorian was being moody,” Fearne says, like an accusation.
Dorian tips his head up to look at Fearne. “I was nohohohot!” he argues—she’s baiting him and he knows it but he doesn’t mind playing; somehow he never does when it’s Fearne—and then when he’s trying to steady his voice to speak again, another snort slips out and he drops his face back into the crook of her neck. If he cared to look all the way up he’d find Orym looking at him, with that thing in his eyes that’s almost like fondness, like the way he looks at Fearne, but…more. But that’s a whole can of worms, and it’s a lot, and it’s so much easier to just lay his forehead on Fearne’s shoulder and get tickled to death.
There’s a pause, and then the gentlest little thunk as Orym puts, probably, his elbow on the table. “Well he doesn’t look moody anymore,” he says. “Congrats, Fearne, you did it.”
“Mhm.” Fearne’s long fingered hand cups the back of Dorian’s head, briefly, affectionately. It’s nice to be loved the way Fearne loves, even if she is a menace. “I’m not done finding out how many snorts he makes, though.”

Orym will definitely be pissed at Ashton next week for risking themselves and Fearne, but I really doubt that would make him turn on Ashton completely. Especially if Fearne makes it clear that Ashton told her his plan in advance and she agreed to help. Fearne taking the shard would have also been a massive risk, both in the moment and the possibility of it leading her to becoming Dark!Fearne, and Orym was fine with that being the plan. He loves Fearne but he's also very pragmatic, and is willing to do, or let his friends do, whatever they think is necessary to do what needs to be done. For her part, Fearne might reconsider her feelings for Ashton or pursuing anything further, but she knew what she was getting into. I don't think this will permanently ruin any of Ashton's relationships, although I'm excited to see them all yell at him next week.
Heyo I was at work and didn’t see this, but I think “turn on” in the post you’re referring to (or I think you’re referring to) was too… harsh maybe (?) a term for me to use considering what I meant?
Cause I definitely think Orym is gonna be angry at both of them for lying to the hells and trying to make such a big decision without input from the rest of them. But moreso, I think that doing this without checking in is gonna hurt because Fearne is Orym’s best friend and she didn’t tell him about such an important decision and tried to hide it from him, and Ashton and Orym promised each other they’d pick each other up and protect each other and then Ashton goes and tries to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes with fearne like this. I think trust has been hurt with orym from this because he now probably feels that Ashton doesn’t trust Orym enough to deal with very important decisions (like discussing who should take the shard).
And I think Fearne is angry at Ashton because they kinda enabled each other into doing a very reckless and dangerous thing, and Fearne realizes how bad of an idea that was. I’m not trying to take away either of their agencies in this like they both decided to do this, but I think their chaotic hare trigger natures led to an extreme level of enabling that wouldn’t have happened if they had actually talked to their friends.
(This is also why I love fearne and orym as besties so much because they perfectly balance each other in their orderliness and chaos)
So I don’t think Orym or Fearne are gonna do a full 180 and turn on Ashton or anything, but I definitely think if this was baldur’s gate we’d see “Orym disapproves” and “Fearne disapproves”.
I think the issue for Orym would be less “Ashton took the shard” and more Ashton and Fearne tricked the hells into thinking Fearne was gonna take it, risking both of their lives, and we’re supposed to be a team. While I think the issue for Fearne was realizing too late that they enabled each other into doing a reckless and dangerous thing that risked both of their lives and they should’ve decided with the rest of the group instead of tricking them.

every time I feel like I’m ready to come back to critical role - when I feel like the actions and decisions made in the game will no longer affect me and I can just enjoy a fun game of d&d amongst friends - suddenly Something happens that makes me so unreasonably upset that I have to quit again
#critical role#i am staring off into the middle distance seething with sapphic rage#critical role spoilers#irrationalleigh#spoilers in the tags beyond this point -#I’m sorry but it makes more thematic sense to have let Orym stay dead and to bring Laudna back#he was tragically killed by the same people that killed his husband. by staying dead he gets to reunite with said husband.#he would’ve wanted Laudna to live#we already got confirmation that Delilah can’t bring her back#we haven’t gotten into her story at all#(yeah that’s what happened with Molly too and I’m sure Delilah will somehow rear her ugly face again)#but it could have also played into dismantling what FCG said earlier about her never having been alive#but no here she is. alive. once alone on a tree around dead bodies#and this time brought back by the people who love her#i just.#I’m sorry??#i know it’s evil to want to make the cast and especially Ashley decide#and even more make Fearne decide when she clearly has a stronger connection to Orym#and yes a coin toss is impartial#but make it SHOULD have been partial.#Laudna fucking deserved to live over Orym and I said what I said#and god. IMOGEN? Imogen will never be the same. Laudna was the one person who comforted her like no one else#yeah of course you can have a character development about it 🙄#but I didn’t want a fucking character development about it. i want a relationship development about it.#Imogen and Laudna truly are soulmates with their silly little pinkies tied together with silly little red yarn.#and I’m so furious and sad about this.

C3E091 True Heroism
The Archivists have been hard at work gathering Episode 91 data. You can visit our site for a fuller picture, but some highlights are below, starting with some statistics about our beloved Faithful Care-Giver:
FCG dealt 967 points of confirmed damage over the course of the campaign, with their top damage episode being C3E057 The Sorrow of Molaesmyr, when they did 150 points of damage.
But, as we know, his greatest strength was in protecting his friends. Across 91 episodes, FCG gave 1,452 points of confirmed healing. Their final episode, C3E091 True Heroism, was also their top healing episode with 286 HP.
Additionally, FCG used Transfer Suffering to mitigate 243 points of damage across the campaign. Of all the Hells, he most frequently took damage for Imogen, and took the highest number of points for Fearne.
Appropriately, their favorite spell was Guidance, which they cast 140 times. Their other top spells/features included Cure Wounds, Transfer Suffering, Enhance Ability, and Channel Divinity (Sympathetic Binding).
At the time of their death, FCG had taken more damage than any other PC: a whopping 2,062 points of damage over the course of the campaign.
He got three HDYWTDTs, wished people a smiley day 51 times, and made (or inspired) 66 unfortunate references to having a flesh tongue.
He was made of metal and wires, but he was alive, and because of him, his friends are too.
Tumblr media
Visit our site for the rest of our FCG highlights, as well as a special tribute that you should make sure to click. As for the Legend of the Peaks, some truly frightening highlights:
Otohan Thull dealt 847 points of damage. With four attacks per turn, they were likely a level 20 Psi Warrior fighter. She had two legendary resistances, and she took a total of 501 points of damage, 299 of these before exalting.
At 399 damage, Otohan took a health potion and healed 66 points. She then took 63 additional points of damage before FCG made their sacrifice.
Presuming that Otohan was not resistant to the damage from FCG’s explosion (79), which seems likely given the particular arcane nature of FCG’s core, that puts her total HP somewhere between 400 and 475 points.
For comparison, these stats put her in the same HP range as a Forge Guardian, the demon prince of undeath Orcus, or an Ancient Dragon Turtle, with more multi attacks and damage resistances than any of them. Terrifying!
Tumblr media
Visit our Episode 91 page here for more detail about Otohan, and check out our homepage for some additional highlights.

women witches-
at 3am a few nights ago I decided it would be a healthy good practice to revisit some of my older drawings that I'd gone sour on and give them another go.
this was a set up I did for the public holiday of April 20th last year, inspired by fearne's enthusiasm during around episode 17 to find some of the special herb to get Imogen high and help with her sleeping problems. so here they all are, relaxing and conjuring hibiscus aligned flowers and moon moths and goofing around. everyone should have the time to chill and be silly. just don't give your brain too much time to think...

Laudna going through a spiral about whether Ashton is a bad person because he wanted the power of both shards and did something stupidly dangerous to do it vs. Laudna deliberately feeding Delilah by using Hunger of the Shadow on Bor'Dor and Willmaster Edmuda.
Absolutely love it. Girl please keep projecting your worst fears about yourself and destructive habits on your friends and get scared of them without ever stepping back and assessing your own actions, it is delicious.
Bonus points that Imogen and Laudna are the biggest enablers of each other and not at all inclined to check each other's negative behaviors. Imogen still has a healthy fear about her powers, though, especially right now.
Meanwhile Laudna is still convinced that Orym is fine and the stable one while no one questions how Orym got Hex or that he's willingly using Ludinus' Quintessence Array to drain Edmuda of her life force. A totally normal stable good guy thing to do. Definitely no nosedive here. Although Laudna is irritated at him for pressuring everyone to keep going and not back down, and that he got the Quintessence Array use and not her. (Because again, she is trying to feed her own need for power.)
Somehow Fearne is the only one who's beginning to think they all might be going too far and getting scared, but they're not really listening to her. She saw her potential to become Dark Fearne and actually reevaluated her life. (Even if she's still a chaos being.)
Bell's Hells are great because they're like NPCs who ended up as the B-Team who keeps happening to be in the right place at the right time to be in the middle of all these events leading to this cataclysmic events that are so much bigger than they are. It's FUN that it's happening faster than they can recon with it and they're getting more and more desperate to not go under in a way that is actually making them go under faster.
They're seeing it in each other but not in themselves. That's the tragedy. They're so desperate to win it doesn't matter at what cost anymore. They're all just competing to see who can sacrifice themselves for the cause first while dragging their enemies down with them. They're going to end up being the monsters someone else has to fight, even though they kept trying to do good and fight the darkness.
