lightning’s maudlin visage haunting all her friends over the five hundred years they try to forget her is a concept i love to entertain. her ephemeral time on this earth, “lightning, it flashes bright then fades away.” her face in every flash of light, her fury in every storm. anything toying with the disdain and apathy they came to hold for her after abandoning them, stupored by their love and longing for her. “rose haired phantom,” bhunivelze knew exactly how to torment them. can’t live with her, can’t live without her.

FFXIII and the Rest of the Owl
FFXIII has many reference to other entries in the series; of the key notes FF9's (and other FFs) red moon are reflected in Cocoon, but the roles are reversed. Where the Monsters inhabit "Earth" instead of the moon. (I like FF9 better, that's all )
The calm lands in FFX reflected in the Grass Lands of Gran Pulse (And the cities of the Nier series)
The same Calm Lands are featured in FFXV; which has a literal [Bank of Spira] inside the end zone. This game ALSO features the end of the world as it's covered in Shadow, and having to fight the Chaos bearer. (Rebranded in this game to Ardyn and Star scourge)
Star Scourge is similar FF7s Mako Poisoning and Jenova Cell influenced Geostigma. And; FFXV seems to also feature Cid's rocket as a minor sight seeing location in its parallel to the calm lands.
FFXV's Location of Insomnia (Noctis Kingdom) feature a location featured in FFXIII lightning returns. This is uncertain if it's because of the original connection between the two series as being a sort of parallel of each other; but that plot point was eventually driven to other Series like Kingdom Hearts 2 - the world that never was, and the original FFXIII-Verses game (FFXVs predecessor) being shunted into a new game featured in Kingdom Hearts 3.
It's not clear exactly how these pieces fit together; but it seems like FF7 featured heavy damages on the planet earth, which lead to the creation of Sin in FFX (as a safeguard) Sin went on a rampage, and had to be defeated by our protagonists in FFX, who were also Remnants of the pyre flies. Beings not quite dead or alive. (Except for Yuna the summoner who could summon them forth.) Essentially using Chaos to defeat Light, and starting the line of Seer that ended with Serah.
The chaos with nothing to keep it in check overwhelmed the planet (Now called Pulse, likely as a derogatory term.) and the remaining humans fled to Cocoon, and re-established Sin with beings they called "L'Cie". The L'Cie are essentially the Summons [Eidolons] Summoners would use to defeat Sin every so often (And Sin was the biggest baddest Eidolon that couldn't be killed, because it would take the form and strength of the precious eidolon used to kill it.)
Fal'cie are similar to Yuna's [Not quite dead companions] in that they're beings chosen by the L'Cie to protect the world. The problem is; humanity doesn't see them as [Chosen] just as those infected with [Chaos] like Ardyn was.
Which leads to FFXIII's main story; and why Humanity is hellbent in destroying Lightning and Co.
FFXV likely happens before humanity decides to flee to the moon. Noctis and his best friends save the world at their own detriment, and the Kingdom of Insomnia's downfall; but because of the constant war between light and dark. Are unable to stifle it completely.
Humanity flees to the Moon, and this is why the city of Insomnia, at least the clean bits seem preserved in [LR].
//In the interim; Because Cocoon's orbit diverges away from the planet for decades, even hundreds of years on end; Nier: Automata happens.
Thanks to Hope's machinations; an entire series of Androids based on a Freudian slip of Lightning continues the fight between light and dark, despite each being more or less the same thing.
In the end; the Machines defeat the Androids (Thanks to having shutdown their reproduction factories). This is explained that if the humans went to Cocoon, the records would say "Moon" and nobody would be the wiser.
Etro in FF13 could then be related to [The Red Girl], Etro is the feminine diety to Bhunivelze's patriarchy and works to undermine him. Who seems to be struggling with a sort of [Patriarchal] control module herself.
Thus the Intoners from the Drake guard series could be directly related to the Seer's from FFXIII. It should be noted that many of Hope's creations are featured prominently in Nier Automata.//
And when Cocoon manages to meet up again with Gran Pulse, we get the series finale, where Lighting takes the whole of humanity from the machine ridden, death trap to what seems like a replica of Earth. (Where she becomes a Lois Voitton handbag model.)

3, 4 and 5 with ff13 Panchi!
3. How do the other characters generally feel about your self insert?
There's so many characters that I can dive into but generally Panchi gets along well with the main cast! One of their closest friends is Noel! Noel thinks pretty highly of them and really respects their intelligence and fighting skills...And then they lose some of the respect when Noel meets Snow- /hj
They also get along very well with Serah and Lightning of course bc siblings! Panchi is pretty protective of Serah and Lightning is protective of both of them-afjsbfjdn The three of them care about each other a lot, they're the only family they have.
4. Would you be considered a main character, side character, villain, or something else?
Panchi is the main character of 13-2 so main character definitely! They're also very important in the first game and they're a Player 2 of sorts in LR!
5. Does your self insert have any special powers or abilities?
Hmmm... Before the game began? Not really. They were just a normal civilian. After the first game though, they know how to use magic! And in the second game, Panchi has the Eyes of Etro which gives them visions Which ends up being the cause of them dying- oops!

For months now, I’ve had this idea for a Cairai fic that is so ridiculously self-indulgent that I have trouble justifying it to myself. Call it embarrassment - that is the closest thing to it, I think. Still, lately, I’ve been finding myself wanting to actually try writing it again. I think I came up with the idea years ago and just never got around to writing it.
Even if the FF13 fandom is quiescent, and the Cairai fandom even more so, I still would like to give it a try. I miss just writing for fun, with no major purpose or point in mind. This would be one of those.
It’s set during the Age of Chaos, by the way. Not during 13-2, and not during LR. It’s before LR, after the chaos came. Want to know more? Guess you’ll just have to wait.
Teehee.

FF13 has six main characters in the party, and in my heart I think my favourite is Sazh. And a part of it is that Sazh seems to be the guy who gets left behind by the narrative the most.
I like all the cast - I'm defensive about Lightning and Hope because of the hate they got, and I thought that both of them had perfectly fine character arcs which got them to where they needed to go. Vanille is okay, probably damaged the most by the vocal director asking her English VA to emulate the Japanese VA's vocal intonation exactly, and while I don't remember Fang a whole lot, I remember the parts of the game where she's hanging out with Lightning and I honestly ship it pretty hard. Snow is a cool guy and he doesn't afraid of anything etc. - jokes aside, replaying the game, I really like Snow and I like how it's setting up his whole "hero" bluster to fail so he can develop and grow into the hero he naively shouts about being at the start of the game.
Sazh is cool because he's probably the oldest guy in the group, and his motivation is tied to his son and wanting to save him - the web of motivations across the board tends to get a bit tangled, but his whole deal is about his son. They make him a bit overly wacky, but I thought that he had some pretty cool interactions with Lightning and Vanille, and I like that compared to characters like Lightning and Snow - a talented but jaded military grunt and an overly optimistic hotheaded rebel leader, respectively - he's just a regular, down to earth, blue collar dude with a straightforward, personal goal that gets him tied up in the ensuing mess.
And like - while Lightning is a soldier and Snow is this like peacekeeper guy, Sazh is a pilot. He's a guy who loves his son and flies planes. I like down-to-earth characters like that. So yeah, while the more anime-adjacent characters get all strong and important and stuff, Sazh just kinda hangs out. He's definitely around, but in 13-2 he's basically just in a DLC and I read that he's doing his own thing in Lightning Returns.
The thing about Sazh - being a bit more sidelined than the rest of the crowd - is that he fits a mold that I tend to fall into pretty hard. Like when series 11 of Doctor Who aired, I found myself really rooting for Yasmin Khan; the other two companions were having their own played-out personal character arc, and she got the short end of the stick regarding characterisation. But also, because the other two companions were having their character arc with each other, Yaz was the primary companion who went off with The Doctor, and that kind of blossomed into its own thing.
And then when Ryan got shafted for series 12, I felt bad because his step-grandad was written as missing his nan more than he was, one of the episodes where he gets to shine and just be himself was arguably my least favourite episode of the revival series (not because of him, he was a bright spot - because the episode was predictable and bland exactly like how a low-effort Syfy original movie is) and his individual character arc - overcoming his dyspraxia - is ignored for most of the run, then suddenly reintroduced at the end of his run so it could culminate with him throwing something like a basketball. I have a lot of sympathy for Tosin Cole, who I thought was underutilized as an actor, and for the character of Ryan Sinclair for being an underutilized character. I love an underdog; Yaz got to rise above and Ryan got shafted.
And while I haven't played LR yet, Sazh gives me the same vibe. I'm pretty sure he only appears once in the main portion of 13-2 and then in a casino DLC, and I could be wrong but I think he's fairly well removed from the main conflict of Lightning Returns, at least compared to the main players in Lightning and Snow and stuff.
So yeah, as much as I already like him, I kinda have no choice but to stan considering the circumstances. Sazh Katzroy is great.

Lightning Returns was a brilliant way to wait while SE fixed the previous patch for Rebirth due to a certain quest, aka, getting the platinum. Was in hiatus for almost a month, and soon to be over. After I have my nostalgic moment with FF13 Part 3 till the end. It's been actually a decade since I'd last played and it's released year. My intention wasn't ever to celebrate it's 10 anniversary. It was a bless since I thought about it. Not a type of person to replay from scratch. Doing this because I was not aware of backing up the save data and now it's unfortunately lost, out of the PS3 saves from 2012- fall 2015. Due to the hard drive crash, while I was checking out FF14 online demo. It causes to lose the save data, was I didn't safely shut down the PS3 console. I shut down through the PS icon button, instead exiting to the menu. Which I currently doing it that way. To be safe and avoid crashes. I did mention something like years back from my old post. My last PS3 replay was FF13-2, Tales of Graces F, and Xillia back in 2020-2021. Now I'm back for FF13-3 and take what was mine.
Decided to play LR, while I was in the livestream. My Youtube Subscription was discussing about Rebirth and somehow lead to LR in it. We were just having a great chat and vibing. I'm beginning to think they used LR and Advent Children, they putted together and we got FFR. Which I can feel this is definitely relevant to me. I kept using Cloud Suit and it's special ability on LR. Once again, cool way to wait for the Patch to be fixed. If I remembered correctly, I think it was Nomura who claimed Lightning is a female version of Cloud. NOW that is brilliant. I'm ready for Rebirth comeback more then ever. We aware FF13 saga is over a decade back. But not the FF7R yet.

HopeRai Week!
Every year, I make sure to post some kind of tribute for this highly underrated couple, so this year will be no different. I normally do some kind of drawing/photo edit to celebrate, so here’s this year’s tribute!
Tumblr media
Happy Hoperai week to those of us who celebrate! And remember, while it may not be canon (or accepted) in America, it is in Japan. 😉
