Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E127 (March 2, 2021)
Tonight’s guests are, of course, Ashley Johnson and Marisha Ray!
Marisha, on her thought process behind the date: “It was a fascinating study on designing something with another player in trying to navigating how to do that in a way that makes sense and wouldn’t be too metagamey or overly scripted or anything like that. I had a bunch of ideas thought out, then I just typed it out and sent it over to him, and then he interpreted it as such.” Liam had ideas, but Marisha wanted him to keep the details a surprise. The theme of “let’s start over” was the leading motif for the design. Three acts: pre-game cocktails at the Nestled Nook, picnic in a field of Xhorhasian wildflowers, and then close it with after-dinner drinks and hot tub at the Steam’s Respite. And the very last thing was “and all the cats were dogs”. Brian: “What was his response to that?” Marisha: “He texted me and was like, ‘Are you serious or is this dog thing a joke?’”
Ashley is asked what it was like to know it was coming but not know the specifics. “For both of us, I don’t think we thought it was going to be right then. I think because it’s been so long in the relationship between Beau and Yasha and it felt like such a natural progression for the two of them, and they’re both awkward together. I think there was something to just being thrown into it.” She spent time thinking about what things Yasha would talk to Beau about on a date. “We got to maybe one of them. It was just so fun! Exploring romance in D&D can be super weird, especially when you’re streaming. But it felt like that’s where our characters were going. There was that excitement of trying something that is out of my comfort zone, and I think so much of Marisha was part of that, as being the initiator as Beau, where I was like, okay, this is where it’s going it. Let’s do it, let’s see what happens!” She mentions how “fun and freeing” it is to trust your improv partner in something like this.
Marisha: “I just wanted Beau to be a fuckboi!” But she highlights that it’s hard to deny the deeper connections that come up in D&D scenarios. “They’ve been with each other through so much that it’s difficult to deny when those bonds start to happen.” She texted Liam in a panic before the game. “What do I wear? And he said, ‘In the game or in real life?’ Both!”
Marisha was expecting a Sam curveball at some point. “My/Beau’s reaction of ‘I love you!’ was pretty accurate. She does care! She’s not just  a troll trying to ruin our shit.”
Marisha on Yasha liking dogs: “I clocked that shit when you bought a dog figurine.” She keeps notes about all the members of the party when they reveal things like that.
Ashley has started taking more detailed notes, partly to play catch-up for events she may have missed earlier. “Turns out, notes are very helpful and can help you in your RPing!”
Favorite parts? Marisha: “The fade-to-black moment at the very end, and I think it’s because Ashley’s eyes--maybe this is going to get weird--we had this moment where we were in the hot tub at the end, and I looked over and was like, ‘hey’, and you looked over and were like, ‘hey’, and I was just dead. I will never forget the look on Ashley’s face. There was just a pure moment.” Ashley: “That’s so funny, because I was going to talk about this one moment with Marisha. It’s just clicking into the scene and clicking into the moment.” Marisha talks about how the moments associated with the game have real, tangible emotional connections. Brian highlights that the emotional side of things is what you remember the most after the campaign is done.
Character thoughts on Kima? Marisha: “I was like, step on me! Please! Both of you! We’d be friends.” Ashley: “It’s also that nostalgia that feels so good at the table. These characters we know and love are still living and breathing and happy together and just kicking ass. For Yasha it was an amazing example of a relationship that works in this world, and something beautiful that these people who are different but are connecting. It was a lot of-- it was cool. I think Yasha’s a very big fan of Kima and Allura. When she gave over the sword, Travis texted me and was like, it’s the Holy Avenger. Looking it up and talking about it, it was like, holy mackerel, this sword is insane. But there’s going to have to be some conversations had to attune with the sword. But I like that Matt presented that challenge, that this isn’t necessarily in your class, but let’s do some RP and see what happens.”
Where’s Yasha at with the Stormlord right now? “I’m curious to explore that more, but knowing that the Stormlord was the first person to bring her back to her own will, of pulling her out of whatever was happening with Oban and the Laughing Hand for however long. It’s also weird to see the relationship that the clerics have, and I think Yasha’s still figuring out how to be her own person, but also... not serving somebody, but still trying to figure out that relationship with her god. But again, he saved her from a very, very dark place, and I think that’s something she values and holds on to.”
Cosplay of the Week: An amazing Essek! (Blushingvioletcosplay on Instagram)
How is Beau handling the Eyes? “All the theories! It’s hard for it to not feel like a ticking time bomb. I always have to try and separate my theories from Beau’s theories. That’s acting and shit. I, Marisha, am very interested if I can somehow utilize this to our advantage. Beau, also interested but simultaneously terrified that it might be a bad idea and I might just get further initiated. When it comes to Matt, you know there’s always something more lurking underneath all of this. As players it’s kind of our job to navigate that.”
How about Yasha? “I think it’s one of the things that didn’t really come up in the date, which is funny, because it’s something I was thinking about. Me as a player, that’s something I’m extremely stressed about. We don’t know what’s going to happen. We kind of got into it, but I think the fact that Lucien was listening, and the Eyes, I think it made me as a player as Yasha very nervous about interacting with Beau, because I don’t know what they’re picking up on. There’s so much we don’t know, and Lucien is so confusing, and the Eyes, and with Matt... we don’t know! It’s a point of extreme concern for Yasha, especially someone that she has feelings for and cares about, it’s an extra level of I don’t know what this means and I can’t lose this person, but I need to protect at all costs.”
What was it like for Beau to discover that Dairon and the Soul not only listened but took action? “That moment was so deeply powerful. Honestly, I was just as taken aback as Beau was. I never in both mine or Beau’s thought process did I think Matt would take action in that way, or that would ever be handled. And I think that’s what makes it so emotional. You condition yourself to think these things just happen, so much so that they permeate your D&D game. So rarely do abusers get held accountable for their actions. What was powerful about it was that he was, and other people cared. That alone was so emotionally impactful, and I was completely thrown by it. I feel like I had to walk away from that situation kind of unpacking those things. What does that say, what does that mean? Same thing for Beau, where the cycle of abuse has happened repeatedly to her with no repercussions to anyone who’s causing it. It’s why she’s always had a weird tenuous relationship with the Soul. It throws you into these layers of reconciliation and thought. I didn’t think this was going to be addressed. What does that say about society? So many different layers to peel back. It all speaks to so many real-life experiences that happen every damn day to so many people. There’s not many examples in media of abusers getting handled, and especially not in a way that’s not some sort of device to motivate somebody.” She highlights how rare it is that the abuser was handled without pulling the victim into the mess. I’m definitely not doing what she’s saying justice with my speed-typing.
How is Yasha feeling about solidifying her identity as a protector? “Putting together this character and starting to play as her, there was a part of me that wanted-- when I work on characters, you go through the list of questions you have as an actor, what’s your motivation and all that stuff. But I very much wanted to see if I could have a character that doesn’t necessarily know what their purpose is, because I feel like a lot of people feel that way. I think when we see movies or TV shows, there’s always a character who says, I know what my purpose is. I wanted to explore what it meant to not know what that is. I left that open with Yasha, and I didn’t want to set that for her, because I thought that was an interesting thing. I still like that idea, but in the conversation with Beau and knowing the date was coming up, there were a lot of internal conversations I was having of how is Yasha feeling in this moment. At the end of the day, I feel that’s a very solid purpose for Yasha in this moment, of all I can really provide is protection - and of course she can provide more than that. But now I’m just, yeah, I think protection for her is the best way she knows how to describe her purpose.” Brian: “And once we arrive there, the goal is to find a greater purpose, to be of service.” Ashley has tied in Yasha’s protectiveness with her grappling with loss.
Fan art of the week: A second amazing Essek! (by Saturday_sky)
Thoughts on the amulets: set-up or bad luck? Ashley: “I thought they were a set-up!” Marisha: “I think [Astrid’s] an opportunist. But I think it’d be much more convenient if anyone other than her killed Trent. To what end, I don’t know.” Ashley: “Me, personally, how I interpreted her crying in that alleyway, I felt like she was crying because of a betrayal. But I don’t know! I think she definitely cares for Caleb.” Marisha: “I also got betrayal tears. That felt like guilt-crying to me.” Brian: “I don’t like any of this.”
What prompted Beau going full assassin? “If they were to get in and out and I could have jumped over that tower without killing that guy, I would have.” She didn’t have a lot of options as a monk and not a rogue assassin, but needed a quick and quiet way to get him out of the way. “I went through so many ideas in my head. I thought of an idea to dump all of the ball bearings under him, then light fireworks” to try to get him to fall off the edge.
Is Yasha’s hope for Molly still alive? “Yes. I think that because Yasha has been on the other end of doing terrible things under someone else’s influence, she has a lot of forgiveness for people. At this point, of course, it’s hope that he’ll come back or have some type of recognition of his life as Molly. There’s a lot of questions. I don’t think she’ll ever give up on him.” The only moment of hesitation was when Lucien was cool with Gelidon leaving with Beau.
How are they feeling about their odds? Ashley: “I feel really great about the ideas that the group has to get out of tricky situations. This one I’m nervous about.” Marisha: “I agree. We have our little side player thread, minus Matt, and I don’t see how we’re getting out of this without some sort of compromise that’s not necessarily in our favor. I think we’re going to get out of it, but I don’t think we’re going to get out of it completely.”
Ashley didn’t tell Brian about the date after the episode ended, but wound up blurting it out right before he was about to watch the episode for Talks.

石田お寿司 19/7/21 stream translation Part 1
This is not the full translation of the stream. I only translated the parts I could understand & interpret or parts I found interesting/important. I’m still a beginner in Japanese, so the translations may not be accurate. If you want to repost, please repost at your own risk.
(t/n: Sorry for the late update. I had so many distractions these past 2 weeks. This translation may have a lot of mistranslations as I couldn’t really catch what he said since the bgm was super loud. I tried my best to separate the voice and the bgm so that the voice would be clearer, but I didn’t manage to do that.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I: Hello. You guys, are you ready for Ghosts n Goblins? I am.
C: You’re in high spirits tonight.
I: Of course. I’ve been busy with the rough sketches. I’ve spend the entire day fixing the sketches for chp 5.
*Fixing the sound
C: Contrarily, won’t you feel stressed playing this game for a change of pace?
I: I’m already used to this game.
I: I’m stuck in the same place so I’m gonna play this game from the start.
*Choosing mode.
I: I’ve played this game before (referring to the old ver.), so I’ll choose the harder mode.
*Choosing stage.
I: I haven’t progressed at all. I haven’t seen the other stages yet. Graveyard, execution chamber. I played the execution chamber stage for a bit during the stream with Ms. Towada. I progressed a little only. Should I play the graveyard stage?
*Playing the stage.
I: The armour used to get destroyed with just one hit. The armour has a ranking. If you collect a lot of armours, it’ll become a bronze armour. This one is probably a metal armour.
C: Fighting!
I: Kamsahamnida. Is it Kamsahamnida? Thank you.
(t/n: Kamsahamnida means thank you in Korean. He’s talking in Korean.)
C: Have you decided on the date for Kagoshima trip?
I: That’s right. What should I do with the trip? Looks like I can secure 20 buses.
(t/n: Ishida had been jokingly planned on a trip with Japanese fans.)
C: Is the stage different from the old one?
I: It looks similar, but I think it’s a completely different stage. Yeah, it’s completely different. What’s this creature? What’s his name again? Everyone said they didn’t like this boss. I like it. He’s like a friend to me.
C: Russia loves you, sensei.
I: Really? I heard that illegal uploading of manga is widespread in Russia. Haha. I have a grudge against Russia. Haha. Spasiba (thank you in Russian).
C: I like Russian girls. They’re cute.
I: I don’t think it’s because they’re Russians. I heard that their nose tends to be taller due to the climate effects. This isn’t considered as discrimination, right? That’s why they’re good-looking. The same with their white complexion. People adore those with tall nose because their noses are small and cute.
(t/n: I’m not sure about the translation of this part since I couldn’t hear him clearly. He said something more but I couldn’t catch it. Sorry.)
Y****: Are you about to snap?
I: Ah, Y****?! You’re here. You weren’t in the prev. stream, right? I’m not angry.
Y****: I was busy with club.
I: What club are you in? You must be busy. What club are you in as a middle schooler?
Y****: Theatre club.
I: Theatre club?! You’re kidding, right?! Really?! It’s so unexpected, hahaha. Theatre club? I thought you’re in a sports club, like soccer or something. So cool. That’s nice. Seriously? Do they have theatre club in middle school? Amazing.
*Ishida struggling to kill the monsters and then died.
I: I was looking at the comments, waiting for Y****’s to show up, then I became like this.
*Someone commented that they did vocalisation training in theatre club.
I: Vocalisation training? So they do have that. Wait a min, did Y**** say something? Wait, tell me when I die again.
Y****: I’m a high-school student.
I: Eh, Y****, you’re a high-school student?! Didn’t you say you’re 13?! Were you a high school student all this time?! Wait, can I talk to Y**** for a bit? Hahaha. Eh?! Have you been a high-schooler all this while?!
*Continue playing.
I: Hurry up and tell me. I suddenly become interested in human world. Y****, hurry. Did he say something?
Y****: I’m in my first year.
I: I see. A first year student. So, last year you’re 13? I remember you said you’re 13. You’ve enrolled to high school. Congrats for your admission! It must be hard with the COVID-19 situation. Y**** has further modified. His DPS (Damage Per Second) has increased to 1980.
C: I envy the youth.
I: Well, you can become anything as a high-schooler. If you work hard, you can become an actor or a playwright, though I’m not really sure. (inaudible). I think it’s a very good career.
C: What club were you in?
I: I was in volleyball club. I was in the badminton club for 3 months. I joined because of similar reason I joined volleyball club.  I joined because I wanted to be good at smashing. Then, I quit the club after I’ve mastered it. Same with volleyball. I wanted to master spike. I had other stuffs I wanted to do. I wanted to play games all day long. I didn’t wanna go for club activities. I skipped club activities and played Smash Bros. I was a boarding student, after all.
C: Have you read Look Back? (t/n: Look Back is a one shot manga by Fujimoto Tatsuki, author of Chainsaw Man.)
I: Yes, I have.
C: Which console is this?
I: This is switch. I play this because I was tired from fixing the rough sketches for chp 5.
C: Did you go and watch Yamakasa? (t/n: Yamakasa refers to the float carried by men during Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival. You can google it up for more info.)
I: I watch when there’s one. Ms. Towada went and see it. Where did she recently visit?
*Ishida having a hard time defeating the monsters & passing the stage.
I: This is harder than RE. RE is way easier compared to this.
C: Sensei is getting tired!
I: Actually, I should be resting at times like this. It’d be better for me to rest after I did the rough sketches.
*Someone commented they had to work that night.
I: It must be hard to work at this time. Night shift? Nurses and… is it correct? I’m not so sure though, but caregivers also have night shifts. Well, good luck on your job. Take care of your health, eat a lot of delicious foods, and don’t forget to wear an armour. You don’t know when you’ll be absorbed into this game.
C: I need to do excel as my assignment.
I: Must be difficult. I copy pasted the stuffs I found on the internet for my assignments. I wasn’t the only one who did that. Everyone else did the same too.
I: I like summer. If I were to pick a season…but I prefer autumn. Still, summer is great.
C: I have test tomorrow.
I: Then, you should study.
C: I hate summer since there’ll be a lot of Terra Formars.
(t/n: terra formars is a manga about humanoid cockroaches. So, OP referred cockroaches as terra formars.)
I: Yup. They’re in the drawers the other day. They’re always there mostly.
C: What are you drinking today?
I: Barley tea. I want to drink juice. Ginger ale as well, but I’ll gain weight drinking that. I drink it occasionally. Do you guys know root beer?
*Ishida constantly failed and died.
Comments: Are you getting angry?
I: This is pissing you off, right? I’m pissed off. Of course I’d be pissed off with something like this. The ones who made this game, show yourselves. I’m gonna bring this to court and claim for compensation.
Comments: Please calm down.
I: I’m calming down. Okay, I’ve calmed down.
*Finally progressing a little.
I: Yes, finally! I’m gonna do this calmly.
*Fighting a bunch of monsters.
I: (whispering) Calmly! Calmly!
*Dead again.
I: (whispering) Shit! Just now…It might be impossible without the armour. Let’s do this calmly.
I: This game is more of a psycho break than Psychobreak.

e-Portfolio in Media Lit
Task #2
Malik, Fatima Zahra A.
12 - STEM Abequibel
A.) Choose 1 photo from a magazine, newspaper, or website and analyze what it is trying to tell readers. If it’s a photo for an advertisement, describe what the photos are doing for the product sold.
Tumblr media
The picture above is from a magazine, it is a photo for an advertisement. In the photo you can see that the model which is known as Gigi Hadid launched “Gigi Hadid x Maybelline collection” in her collection there are a lot of matte liquid lipsticks with a lot of shades and it says in the picture that the lipstick last for 16 hours which is amazing for me and by the fact that this lipsticks has 30 shades in all because I got to choose what color is really suitable for me. Gigi continued on to share the inspiration behind her line, revealing she named the red lipstick “Khair” after her little sister Bella’s middle name because,”Bella’s favorite color is red and it’s kind of the red she has worn her whole life.” Therefore this photo encourages people especially teenager girls like me who loves to wear make up to buy this lipsticks because beside that it is not that expensive like any other lipsticks it is also very pigmented and can last long in your lips.
B.) Choose an existing pop song and interpret its lyrics. Decipher what the song is all about and list down the situations being narrated in the song.
Tumblr media
The song that I chose is “Me!” By Taylor Swift featuring Brendon Urie. For the verse one of the song she’s listing all of the negative, which is something that I tend to do a lot, it’s like if I’m going to try to sell somebody something, or try to convince them with something; I’m going to list all of the negatives first, so I empathise with that. Then in the chorus and the pre-chorus she lists the positives, then for the verse 2 Is which is a thing that made me think that it’s funny, it doesn’t really fit into the spirit of the song, I thought the idea was that we’re all okay just the way we are! So now all of the sudden we’re playing in a comparison game? It doesn’t seem to me that Brendon Urie really got the spirit of this song, which doesn’t seem off character from him anyway. Then Taylor continues on saying, And when we had that fight out in the rain. You ran after me and called my name, I never wanna see you walk away (And there's a lot of lame guys out there) Many speculate those "lame guys" are definitely in reference to Taylor's past, where she used to have a reputation for dating various famous men - Harry Styles, John Mayer, Joe Jonas, etc. The lyric "I will never bore you, baby" could specifically be in reference to Tom, though especially considering tabloid reports hinted that Tom dumped Taylor because he got bored of her. Lastly what Taylor Swift is trying to communicate through the song is the message of “Yes! Go and be yourself, and whatever kind of version that you are, just be that version” And so we go to the bridge, and this is probably the part that I enjoyed the most, but also had the biggest question about, Girl, there ain't no I in "team" But you know there is a "me" Which is a common cliche that we hear a lot; and it’s not in the sense that they're doing bad, they’re obviously doing a bit with it. Then they go into the chorus and an outro and it’s this pretty happy fun anthem-like thing; and I think that this song accomplishes very well what it was set out to do, which is to be sort of like a party rousing song; “It’s nice and fun to be just you, because you’re unique. The song 'ME!' is a song about embracing your individuality and really celebrating it and owning it, with this pop song, we have the ability to get a melody really stuck in people's heads, and I just want it to be one that makes them feel better about themselves. The lyrics were also trying to tell us that we should really appreciate ourselves because we are who we are and no one or nobody can be like you because you are you and you are unique and one of a kind. The hype about this song is that it’s about “me”, and the way that I am is okay and great, but it’s all in the context of a relationship; which makes it a little more complicated, and it’s not necessarily bad, as I think that it’s really good that this song establishes the value of the individual. Taylor Swift has said in an interview talking about how there are all of those advertisements that tells you how you should be to look better, and how you should be wealthier, or healthier, or whatever; and to an extent, you just have to say “Yeah, I am who I am, and that’s great, there is only one “ME!”, right?”; and that’s the main gist of these lyrics, this emphasis of the individual.
C.) Pick a music video and watch it several times. Study it closely to see if the visuals are affecting the song. Or is the song helping the visuals in a way?
The music video that I chose was “Look what you made me do” by Taylor Swift. After watching her music video I have noticed that the song is helping the visuals because it is so accurate like the lyrics really matched the visuals in the music video. The music video begins with a zombified T-Swift digging her own grave so the old Swift is dead, resigned to the graveyard of pop culture history. First, we see the aforementioned tombstone, where Swift’s reputation lies, but also a second one, reading “Nils Sjoberg”, the pseudonym Swift used as a co-writer on her ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris’s song, This Is What You Came For, a collaboration widely assumed to have contributed to their breakup. Swift’s writing credit was supposed to be kept secret, but when her team revealed that she had, in fact, written the Harris-Rihanna hit, her ex went on a tweetstorm about how Swift was looking for “someone new to try and bury”. So she buried the fictitious Mr Sjoberg.
Tumblr media
In the next shot, Swift luxuriates in a tub of diamonds, where there sits a single dollar bill, a possible reference to the symbolic dollar she earned in last month’s sexual assault case against the radio DJ who groped her in 2013.
Tumblr media
This next part of the videl was a dead giveaway, Swift sits atop a throne as dozens of snakes slither at her feet. One even serves her what we can only assume is piping hot tea, the kind Kim Kardashian dished out when she released audio of Swift, who publicly disputed Kanye West’s lyric about her in Famous, appearing to sign off on those same lyrics in a phone conversation with West. Afterwards, Swift’s reputation as a snake in sheep’s clothing took off; Kardashian helped further that image by tweeting a bunch of snake emojis on international snake day. More than a year later, it seems Swift’s ready to embrace the title: ahead of the single’s release, she dropped cryptic reptilian teaser videos. And now, the snake has shed her skin.
Tumblr media
So in the next shot, as the chorus begins, Swift rams a shiny gold car into a storefront where paparazzi are lurking. She opens the door, a cheetah in tow, to show off none other than her Grammy award. She proceeds to display and caress it in one of the video’s most bewildering moments.
Tumblr media
Swift’s love of cats is well documented. Here, she’s surrounded by stacks of cash and a Girl Squad of masked felines, wielding a baseball bat and a sweater that says “Blind for Love”. In the next scene, the masked marauders can be seen robbing a music streaming company. Swift, if you remember, boycotted Spotify for years due to its dismal compensation of artists. She also wrote an open letter to Apple Music in 2014 arguing on behalf of increased artists compensation and then took to Tumblr, in June 2015, blasting Apple’s decision to give users three-month free trials. And now she’s back to rob them, cat imagery to boot.
Tumblr media
The next part of the video was made waves for its apparent resemblance to a shot from Beyoncé’s Formation video. But the real hidden gem is the backup dancers’ belly shirts, which read “I Heart TS”. Tom Hiddleston, one of Swift’s ex-boyfriends, was caught in a similar shirt when splashing around the beaches of Rhode Island with Swift.
Tumblr media
Finally, the last part is when the Swifts both old and new assemble before an airplane, where the word “reputation” appears again. Overall I think that the song really help the visuals in a way that it was really created beautifully (the music video) and for me the music video is a masterpiece becausr I have also learned the real meaning behind it, the song song is also about her struggles in the past and how she handled herself.

So it’s the holiday season, which in a lot of households means presents. You know who has more merch than almost any other Flash villain (1. being Reverse Flash as of my last count)? Captain Cold!
Have a Len lover in your life? Need to give your family gift ideas? Peep this list, y’all!
I used to own...basically everything with Len on it. I had the largest Flash collection in the southern US until about 3 years ago, when I sold the vast majority of it, and gave away even more. These reviews come from in-hand experience. Let’s start with the Original Lad:
DC Direct Captain Cold
Tumblr media
Holy macaroni, was this figure terrible. Yes it was comic-accurate at the time, but you could not pose it, you could not keep it standing, and the face when you removed the glasses? Nightmare fuel. Still, it was a figure from 2001, and they really were doing their best, so I’d have to rate this guy a 2 out of 5.
These next two came out around roughly the same time, but could not be more different in quality. First up, DC Direct Justice Captain Cold
Tumblr media
Strictly speaking, this figure was beautiful. Yeah it was in the hyper-realistic style of Alex Ross, who I’ve never been a fan of, but it was toned down in a way that made it less uncanny valley. The figure had stubble painted on, and if you removed the hood (which you technically could but shouldn’t), he had hair under there! But still, this was a DC Direct figure from 2008, so it had all the same flaws that a figure from that time period tended to have: absolutely a bitch to pose, hard to keep upright without the base (I let mine lean against the wall whenever I needed the base for even more precarious figures), joints prone to snapping if you worked him too hard. Still, by far my favorite of the DC Direct/Collectibles Len figures, if not my favorite full-size figure. 4.5 of 5.
Meanwhile in big box stores across the nation, DC Universe Classics was releasing their best wave yet, wave 7. Man, I had that whole thing aside from Aquaman; Big Barda, Flash, Kid Flash, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, and of course, Captain Cold
Tumblr media
This is the ugliest Len figure. Hands down, the least visually appealing. Which is a shame, because it’s also one of the best! Completely comic accurate until you hit the upper torso/head area, a ridiculous amount of articulation, with the single best cold gun of any of these figures...but jfc that expression. The weird poncho/hood always bothered me too, because while it was almost comic accurate, something just threw it off the track and made it look more ridiculous than cool. 3.5 out of 5.
After the New 52 hit, DC Collectibles released 2 Captain Cold figures in rapid succession, one that was packaged alone, and one that came as part of a 7-figure set
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can you spot the differences? There’s just one: the Len from the 7-figure set is in a dark blue suit, and doesn’t come with the ice mace and ice dagger. Like all DC Direct figures before them, these DC Collectibles figures are pretty to look at, but offer very little in the way of articulation. They could be hard to keep upright, which was annoying, as neither came with a stand, and do not try to take off the hood. Nothing under there. Still, they were very pretty depictions of a popular redesign, so I feel alright giving these guys a 3 of 5.
DC Collectibles spat out a final Len figure for the CWverse line back in 2015
Tumblr media
As a big fan of Wentworth Miller and his face, I feel this figure could have been better. I mean, I’ve seen Arrowverse figures that are spot on, and this one just is not. Maybe it’s because the goggles obscure a good portion of the face, I don’t know. That being said, I love this figure, and it’s actually one I re-bought at a convention recently, along with the Heatwave figure from the same line, that hadn’t been released when I’d started selling off all of my toys. The costume is show-accurate, the figure comes with an extra set of hands, and the gun is just really cool. This is a solid 4 of 5 figure.
These next toys aren’t action figures per say, as they don’t do much in the way of action, but they’re cute and I like them, for the most part.
Funko took over the market and the world back in 2010 when it first introduced the Pop Vinyl figures, but it took a hit TV show to get Flash villains other than the Reverse Flash into production. There are 3 Captain Cold Funko products currently out, the two Pop Vinyls and a Re-Action figure
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I love the first Pop Vinyl. The round, lifeless black eyes of the Pops have freaked me out for a long time, but with Len in his sweet goggles, this Pop is perfect for me. I actually have him on a shelf in my closet. The variant...look, I like how they included the actual real-life hairline Wentworth Miller has, but those creepy eyes just kill it for me. The Re-Action figure, by the way, is garbage. They’re supposed to be based on the lines of toys that came out back in the 80s, but all that means to me is little to no articulation, weird molds that look nothing like the character they’re supposed to be, and few if any accessories. Why is he wearing a tie??? Just. The worst. 5 of 5 for Pop 1, 3 of 5 for Pop 2, and 1 of 5 for the Re-Action figure.
There are a bunch of figures that came out before Funko’s reign that have little to no articulation, and here they are:
Action League Citizen Cold, from the Batman: The Brave and the Bold line
Tumblr media
I love a good boy??? 5 of 5, absolutely perfect. No you can’t pose him, but he already comes in a dynamic, interesting pose. This is my absolute favorite of all the non-poseable figures, and I miss mine all the time.
Imaginext, a line of toys for very young superhero fans, made a New 52 Captain Cold a few years back
Tumblr media
Honestly, Imaginext toys are ridiculous, and I love every single one of them. They’re great toys for little kids, and yeah, Len is completely bald underneath that hoodie and ice gun backpack, but he has a snowball cannon to compensate with, so who’s the real loser?! 5 of 5, beautiful.
Did you kno w that back in 2011, McDonalds put out a line of Happy Meal Young Justice toys featuring Captain Cold??? Did you want to know? Too bad, you know now.
Tumblr media
My dad’s dog chewed up his ice projectile, rendering the actual immobile figure completely useless...but I still really like it??? Like, it’s a toy that came with food that I sweet-talked the counter guy into giving me. It’s a worthless little nothing of a toy...but I still like it. 3 of 5.
Pocket Heroes were a weird little line of 3-inch figures that came in two-packs. One of those packs contained Flash and Captain Cold
Tumblr media
You can basically only move their arms and legs, and while this figure comes with a cold gun and a remarkably ripped set of abs and pecs, the design never really appealed to me. 2.5 out of 5.
I collected MiniMates once upon a time. 2.5 inch figures that were basically fancy LEGOs? Deal me in! ViniMates are uh. Not that.
Tumblr media
ViniMates are 6-inch figures and I Do Not Like Them. Being made of vinyl makes them almost completely free of articulation, so the post you get them in is the one they stay in. Also, this one is based on the show-interpretation of Len and it seems to be smoldering at me. Don’t like that. 1 out of 5.
On the other end of the vinyl spectrum, the Mini-Mezitz line from Mezco is simply delightful.
Tumblr media
Mini-Mezitz were 2-inch figures with articulation in their arms, legs, and neck joints. I love mine, and they have been hanging out on the top of my bookcase for like 7 years now. 4 out of 5, absolutely weird-dorable.
Eaglemoss once put my blog on the front page of their website without telling me, back when I was actively snapping pictures of my Flash collection. The Eaglemoss lead figures, once you get past the fact that yes, these dudes are made of painted lead so maybe handle with care, are a good staple in any collection. Captain Cold got two
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both Eaglemoss figures came with information booklets about Captain Cold, though the chess piece New 52 version focused almost solely on his New 52 history. They’re both very detailed, and I really like them. 3.5 out of 5.
I never watched Thomas the Tank Engine as a kid...but I saw this weirdass thing in a HomeGoods one day and just kinda. Stopped and stared.
Tumblr media
He’s a train. Len is a train now. Don’t like it. 1 out of 5.
So there’s this company called Kotobukiya. They’re most famous for their bishoujo statues, but they make guys too. I had the Flash Kotobukiya statue, back in the day. I was not collecting Flash stuff when they made a Captain Cold one.
Tumblr media
I’m actually apparently getting this as a gift from my boyfriend for Hanukkah. He finally got access to my wishlist. This statue is based on the Francis Manapul New 52 redesign, and it is what we call Big Sexy. Frankly, I give it a 5 out of 5.
No offense to Wentworth Miller, but my favorite Captain Cold TV appearance is always going to be his role in the JLU episode, Flash and Substance.
Tumblr media
The JLU figures were all godawful, but hell if we as a fandom didn’t gobble them up back in the day. I had all the available Rogues, Len, Heatwave, Captain Boomerang, Weather Wizard, “Justice Lords Flash” (who was really just Reverse Flash, let’s be real), Mirror Master...it’s the most complete set of Rogues you can get, actually. But they were terrible figures; the Dorito-like shape of the shoulder to waist ratio combined with the narrow feet of the figure guaranteed that these toys would not stay upright without a stand. They had no articulation, and most came without weapons. But you could get three-packs of them in Target for like $12, and they were designed with children in mind, so. 3.5 out of 5, because frankly, the Timmverse designs will always tug at my nostalgia strings.
Captain Cold is available in two official LEGO forms
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first is from the Mighty Macros line, and features Len vs the Flash in a racecar vs snowmobile race. It’s very cute and easy to build. The second is the more challenging Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas set, which also includes Flash, Grodd, and strangely enough, Batman and Wonder Woman. I never owned that set, and it’s pretty hard to find these days, regularly running $80 and up. Both sets are a 5 out of 5, though, because LEGO does not mess around when it comes to quality fun.
I saved my favorites for last. In the 70s, there was a line of toys called MEGOs, which were plastic-bodied toys with cloth suits. Mattel, and later the Figures Toy Company, would both do their own versions of Captain Cold
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first version, by Mattel, is amazing. Mine is literally sitting next to me as I type this. I took him to Universal with me when I won a trip to Halloween Horror Nights back in 2015, I take him to the movies with me when I don’t have anyone else to go with, he’s my little buddy. My dad’s dog, again, chewed his left arm completely off at one point, but I don’t care. I love him. As for the Figures Toys version, I actually won a fairly cheap auction for him earlier this week, so we shall see! I don’t know if I like how he has the whole “Super Friends hypothermia Len” look going on, but I do like how his costume isn’t just cheap, tearable vinyl. We shall see what’s under that hood soon. I give the Mattel one a 5 out of 5 for the years of joy he’s given me. The Figures Toys one is pending, but I’m gonna give a tentative 4 out of 5, because it really does look nice.
You could get Len in other forms, like as a game piece in the Heroclix and Dice Masters games, as a paintable figure for a Batman tabletop roleplaying game, as trading cards, as a set of guitar picks, as a card holder, as a very hard to find but still lovely statue from DC Direct, in official pin form from Funko and Fansets, on an old 7-Eleven cup, and of course, in the pages of the comics...but I’ve always liked toys, so that’s what I decided to go over. Hope y’all enjoyed this, and maybe got some ideas for your own collections.

THE TOP IDEA IN AMERICA
Asking whether you're default alive or default dead? To him the problems were the reward. Pride, mostly.1 These things don't scale linearly. Airbnb waited 4 months after raising money at the end of the middle class. The reason is a phenomenon I wrote about earlier: the fatal pinch. Why do they think it's hard? Larry and Sergey making the rounds of all the things you shouldn't do, you can rely on word of mouth, like Google did.2 In the so-called real world this need is a powerful force.
Even now I think if you asked hackers to free-associate about Amazon, the one-click patent would turn up in the first ten topics. Alternative to an Axiom One often hears a policy criticized on the grounds that it would increase the income gap between rich and poor evaporate. It could be shaped by your own curiosity.3 I wasn't working at my day job I'd start trying to do real work.4 How much runway do you have left?5 If you'd asked me in high school is: mental queasiness. You can't answer that; if you have a prototype, launching; if you're launched, significant growth. Actually that's not true.
The market price for that kind of work is a job. Maybe what you'd end up with wouldn't even be a spreadsheet. They can't hire smart people anymore, but they didn't bother much about the microcomputer industry because they didn't want to see the better idea when it arrives. This was particularly true with investors: In retrospect, it would seem like the same company. Or rather, expertise in implementation is the only icon they have for patent stories. If you want to start a startup.6 For a lot of them weren't initially supposed to be startups.7 If you want to achieve, and to cheer you up when things go wrong.8 We might like to think we wouldn't go so far, but the title of a book. Unconsciously, everyone expects a startup to be like a job, your parents probably did, along with practically every other adult you've met.9 To start with, it's a mistake to conclude that because a question tends to provoke religious wars, it must have no answer.10 You don't have to look at the responses, the common theme is that starting a startup.
For example, what if you made an open-source play? Arguably pastoralism transformed a luxury into a commodity? Patent trolls, it seems to decrease other gaps. Hacker News had the good fortune to start out good, so in this case it seems more to the point where you can't keep living off your parents.11 If no one else will defend you, you didn't call the police. You might come up with your real idea.12 The problem with Amazon's notorious one-click patent.13 I needed to remember, if I could only figure out what.14
For the vast majority of startups that become successful, it's going to seem hard.15 I let myself believe that my job was to be a luxury item? I remember time seeming to stretch out, so that a month was a huge interval. In those businesses, the designers though they're not generally called that have more power. It's something the market already determines.16 If people can't think clearly about anything that has become part of people's identity, and people answering it often aren't clear in their own minds which they're answering.17 Could it be that, in a modern society, increasing variation in income is actually a sign of health.
Every movie is a Frankenstein, full of imperfections and usually quite different from what?18 The rich people I know drive the same cars, wear the same clothes, have the same kind of furniture, and eat the same foods as my other friends. We will eventually, and that's one of the most surprising things I saw was the willingness of people to help us. At most colleges, it's not made equally. Most people like to be good at what you do. If you watch little kids playing sports, you notice that below a certain age they're afraid of the ball. We, as hackers, know the USPTO is letting people patent the knives and forks of our world.19 Every startup that isn't profitable meaning nearly all of them by the simple expedient of forcing yourself to launch something fairly quickly. Unless you're Mozart, your first task is to figure that out.
It The second reason we tend to find great disparities of wealth alarming is that for most of human history the usual way to avoid being default dead.20 But I don't think that's a bias of mine. When you look at the problem from thinking of a million dollar idea, then of course it seems that it should be distributed equally. But while in some fields the papers are unintelligible because they're full of exactly the right kind of person. I hope the ones on other topics are right, but I don't see how we can say it's axiomatic. Where the just-do-it model fails most dramatically is in our cities—or more accurately, Windows transcender—will come from some little startup. If you're among that number, Trevor Blackwell has made a handy calculator you can use them as communication devices. What would it even mean to make theorems a commodity?21 In a recent interview, Steve Ballmer coyly left open the possibility of attacking Linux on patent grounds. There patents do help a little. People will write operating systems for free. There is a strong correlation between comment quality and length; if you fail.
I'm not criticizing Steve and Alexis. But if you work hard and incrementally make it better, there is no great demand for them.22 It's not like doing extra work for extra credit. You can only avoid competition by avoiding good ideas. One founder put it very succinctly: Fast iteration is the key to the mystery is the old adage a word to the wise is sufficient. Long but mistaken arguments are actually quite rare.23 People make it. Whether they encourage innovation or not, patents were at least intended to.
Notes
It also set off an extensive biography, and made more margin loans. Bullshit in the right thing to do that.
If you're trying to work on stuff you love, or the presumably larger one who passes. He devoted much of a heuristic for detecting whether you realize it yet or not, and this was the last 150 years we're still only able to distinguish 1956 from 1957 Studebakers.
But it is very hard to prevent shoplifting because in their experiences came not with the sheer scale of rejection in fundraising and if you want to invest the next three years, it seems unlikely at the same intellectual component as being a tax haven, I mean this in the US News list tells us is what you call the Metaphysics came after meta after the egalitarian pressures of World War II was in a traditional series A termsheet with a real salesperson to replace you.
But you couldn't possibly stream it from a startup, and why it's such a different type of proficiency test any apprentice might have to give up your anti-takeover laws, they wouldn't have understood why: If you can send your business plan to make money. You're going to drunken parties. 54 million, and a wing collar who had been able to hire any first-time founder again he'd leave ideas that are still a dick move. VCs and the founders are willing to be vigorously enforced.
For founders who had small corpora. Another advantage of startups is uninterruptability.
Founders are often compared to adults. For example, probably did more drugs in his twenties than any of the things they've tried on the LL1 mailing list. The Wouldbegoods. We thought software was all that mattered.
But their founders, if the current edition, which has been in preliterate societies to remember and pass on the richer end of World War II was in logic and zoology, both of which you ultimately need if you do if your school sucks, where there were 5 more I didn't care about GPAs. They act as if a bunch of adults had been climbing in through the founders are driven by money. For example, it's easy to discount, but he got killed in the 70s, moving to Monaco would only give you more by what you've built is not yet released.
Innosight, February 2012.
One sign of a business, and stir. Jessica. Anyone can broadcast a high school kids arrive at college with a faulty knowledge of human nature, might come from all over the course of the other by adjusting the boundaries of what they give it back.
This is the lost revenue. Security always depends more on not screwing up. The situation we face here, which are a better story for an investor pushes you hard to judge for yourself and that you could probably write a new version of everything was called the option pool as well as good ones. But they also commit to you.
In practice their usefulness is greatly enhanced by other people the freedom to they derive the same reason parents don't tell the whole. Viaweb, and each night to make the hiring point more strongly. In a series A from a 6/03 Nielsen study quoted on Google's site.
94. The reason the founders. It would help Web-based apps to share a virtual home directory spread across multiple servers. Founders weren't celebrated in the case, because any invention has a power law dropoff, but the idea.
One sign of a correct program. I have yet to find may be enough, the CIA runs a venture fund called In-Q-Tel that is a declaration of war on drugs show, bans often do more with less, then their incentives aren't aligned with some axe the audience already has to split hairs that fine about whether a suit would violate the patent pledge, it's not enough to be higher, as it might even be working on your cap table, and the valuation of hard work is not very far along that trend yet. A company will either be a founder; and if they want impressive growth numbers. Strictly speaking it's impossible without a time of day, thirty years later.
6% of the 2003 season was 2. Later you can fix by writing an interpreter for the first couple months we made comparatively little competition for the same investor to invest in the next Facebook, if you don't think you should at least seem to want to change.
For example, it's shocking how much of observed behavior. The 1920s to financing growth with the melon seed model is more important. In a country with a wink, to allow multiple urls in a dream world.
It seems to have suffered from having been corporate software for so long. In part because Steve Jobs doesn't use.
But it wouldn't be worth about 30 billion. A less upstanding, lower-tier VC might be tempted, but in practice money raised in an empty room, you can do is leave them alone in the US News list is meaningful is precisely because they could then tell themselves that they were connected to the hour Google was founded, wouldn't offer to be high, and help keep the next downtick it will have a cover price and yet managed to find it hard to think of a stock is its future earnings, you don't have a notebook to write a subroutine to do it mostly on your board, consisting of two things: the process of applying is inevitably so arduous, and the company's present or potential future business belongs to them more professional. To start startups, just monopolies they create liquidity.
Programming in Common Lisp seems to them? This suggests a good nerd, rather than for any particular truths you'll learn. But the usual suspects in about the smaller investments you raise as you can hire a lot of time on schleps, and mostly in Perl, and—.
I know, Lisp code. Like the Aeneid, Paradise Lost is a dotted line on a wall is art.
Philosophy is like math's ne'er-do-well brother. The philistines have now been trained. High school isn't evil; it's IBM.
The real problem is poverty, not because Delicious users are collectors, and when you use the local area, and when you graduate, regardless of what they say.
Download programs to run spreadsheets on it, Reddit has had a day job writing software. Don't be evil. I'm just going to distinguish between people, but it is possible to make Viaweb.
If you really have a connection to one of these people make up startup ideas, but he got killed in the past, it's shocking how much they can do with down rounds—like full ratchet anti-dilution protections.
Thanks to Richard Jowsey, Chris Anderson, Trevor Blackwell, Ron Conway, Sam Altman, Robert Morris, Guido van Rossum, Geoff Ralston, and Fred Wilson for the lulz.

21 to 31, if you don't mind
21. least favorite character to writeAs much as I love him, I’d have to say Psi. I never feel like I’m writing him accurately and I just gotta write him right, ya know? I was once jotting down a bunch couple of questions to ask Larka about Amongst the Statues and when I was asking her something about him I legit said “I can p much assume for Gambie, but idk about Psi. When it comes to Psi I’m just in a general state of idk at all times." 22. favorite story you’ve ever writtenHonestly I’d actually have to say the one and only fic I wrote for Victubia, not that I don’t love the stuff I write for the lvc. But that fic was a big deal to me. It was the first fight I ever wrote to personal satisfaction, most of my fight scenes fall flat or are skillfully avoided writing. It was also a headcanon I was super proud of, and I was so damn excited to contribute to the fandom. It also got me through some really tough times. It was a beautiful escape from reality, writing about all that magic and mystery and characters that I knew as closely as friends. It was like coming home, but to a good home.Oh and it also took a year to finish and was, at the time, the longest thing I’d ever written.23. least favorite story you’ve ever writtenWhen I was in grade 2 (bear with me) my friends and I used to play this pretend game on the playground about elemental powers. We were all different ones (I was earth :D) and we ran around weaving intricate stories and being powerful badasses. But, as is the way with growing up, we eventually outgrew playtime. But I distinctly remember walking around the playground with my other writer friend just going on and on about our own individual interpretations of what we were playing 6 years later. We were both writing out our childhood games. I ended up writing a few 10s of thousands of words but it was all so juvenile that I can’t stand it in hindsight. Lots of Mary and Gary Sues. I do hope to rewrite the premise some day…24. favorite scene you’ve ever writtenI really have to think about this one…*Five minutes later*Well my fic, The Early Bird, is basically one whole scene but I’m quite fond of it. I like analyzing the Team’s interactions. Though, there is some stuff to come I’ve written for AtS that I really love.25. favorite line you’ve ever writtenOh come on really?*Rereads AtS*”…pacing around the room to dodge the hysteria creeping its way up his spine.“ That just paints a picture to me. You can practically feel his situation. We’ve all been there, feeling panic trying to grab hold of you and doing everything to fend it off. It just sets the tone so well.I didn’t even need to read the whole thing…. 26. story you’re most proud ofI can’t say I have one singular story I’m most proud of tbh. Each new story I write is (in my opinion anyway) better, more in depth, and stronger than the last. I’m proud of where I am, but I’m also proud of where I came from, and this beautiful character I’ve created with Larks. Unless where I came from is more than 2 years old. I’m growing so much as a writer that’s the cut off point for where pride becomes embarrassment. See: answer to question 23. 27. best review you ever gotWhen you post your writing pretty much exclusively on Tumblr, your reviews come in the form of tags and replies. And when you’re part of the lvc that’s reduced to mostly tags (no offense, I love you guys). The best review I could ever ask for on this blue newspaper is just a rambling in the tags, and maybe some theorizing for what’s to come. I do have to say though, shout out to you, Mer, your tags are always A+. 28. worst review you ever gotLack of tags. 29. favorite story/poem of another authorI’m not even going to try to choose between the fics of my frands so…Best Laid Plans by Terry Fallis. Canadian author, winner of the Stephen Leacock Award for Humour. And a deserving one imho. I currently own all of his published works and am waiting with baited breath for his latest masterpiece to be printed. Best Laid Plans deals with Canadian politics in the heart of Canada, Parliament Hill in Ottawa. And yet, as someone who has never studied, taken interest, or engaged in politics outside of the two elections I’ve been of age to partake in, I was still able to follow it without missing more than one or two beats. Fallis’s writing reads like a conversation, and draws you in so much I could hardly put it down. Legitimately, it made me miss my bus stop once because I was so engaged in the story. It’s hilarious, and it’s the kind of writing I dream of publishing one day. That was rambly…. Apologies. 30. hardest part of writing*Side eyes Psi* when you’re unsure of who, what, when, where, why, or especially how to write something.31. easiest part of writingWriting? Easy? Hah

@spiralnoodleworld Alliance Pain is, indeed, an accurate term for this XD
Tumblr media
@wilsonkingofprussia I think Capone Bege will soon get used to it as well. As I always say, I’m now awaiting Kid and Co.’s reactions to their alliance with Luffy XD

@mossyseas My train of thought was something like this when I started thinking about the Vinsmoke kids having Devil Fruit DNA mixed into them and I 100% agree that Oda’s answer was completely random back on that SBS. Thanks for your input, it is much appreciated!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@jiofreed I’m definitely reblogging that post and adding your screencapped comments on it, because this is something I intended to actually include and due to some circumstances, I ended up forgetting about it. So thank you so much for reminding me :)
Tumblr media
@otakuonthemove You literally have no idea just how gratifying and fulfilling this kind of comment really is for me. Knowing there’s someone who finds what I do interesting, makes me want to churn out even more content. Thank you for your enthusiastic words.
Tumblr media
@niyaow Well, he DOES look like a midget after adding Judge... Also, thanks. I’m glad you found it enjoyable :)
@the-noone-me Glad you enjoyed the read!
@zaziecurie ¡Mucha gracias! Muito obrigado/a!

@dusty-jester Well, I posted this right after episode 785 had aired and the very next week, on episode 786, they had already corrected the blunder. So I’m afraid it was not because kids watch it, they messed up and then corrected it. You can see both images from 785 and 786 here thanks to @otakuonthemove.

@katsunenpiece LOL If this were the case, I highly doubt Usopp would be lying about it. Exaggerating a bit, maybe; but not lying. See, I think his lies are some sort of coping mechanism to him; to fend off his very low self-esteem, he comes up with all these stories (lies) where he’s the brave hero and has all these crazy skills to give himself an emotional boost and keep himself from falling into a possible depression. He’s never lied about any of his friends or their skills, though. At least not as far as I remember. You’re free to correct me if I’m wrong :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@amigodecuentos and @yukizus Thanks! Glad people find this interesting :)
Tumblr media
@damondraco Yes, I know. That ask was referring to this other post of mine where I said Elbaf is fable written backwards. Thanks for the contribution, either way :)
Tumblr media
@draceempressa Well, I wouldn’t know since I don’t read/watch Fairy Tail, but I’ll take your word for it. I kind of imagine Usopp becoming some sort of storyteller after he reaches his dream and “retires”; he’s amazing at it.
@ktosiowa Glad you like the theory! :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@lizzyg-lifesgood and @memesterpink LOL Sorry, but it seems Usopp was destined to go to Elbaf since Oda created him. His entire character revolves around being a fabulist of sorts, so yeah, I’d love for One Piece to end like that. Thanks for the reblog and your input!

@acesenpaimissyou Did I just get the OK from a Viking descendant for this? LOL I’m joking (hope I didn’t offend you). I agree with you on that one. It’s just that the Viking/Norman issue just popped up in my mind first, because the non-Elbaf giants we’ve seen so far all work for the WG and directly antagonise the “Elbaf ways”. I mean, every Elbaf giant we’ve seen so far have all been pirates: Mountainbeard and Fallbeard, Dorry and Brogy, Hajrudin (he technically was introduced as a mercenary but he was working under Buggy before he defected and joined the Straw Hat Grand Fleet as a pirate) and Oimo and Kashi, with whom we’ve seen the WG is not beyond making scammy offers to get them to work for them. The situation with Oimo and Kashi especially strikes as really similar to what was expected of the Normans once they settled in their new home (aside from becoming Christians): to keep the other Vikings at bay; in short to guard France against the Norse raids. I guess that’s why I made that connection first. Thanks a lot for your input!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@nicefandom & @katsunenpiece I’m glad you find it plausible. I like knowing if things I say make sense or not, because sometimes I think it makes sense but other people don’t. So it’s good to know I’m not being too imaginative. Thank you both for your inputs :)

@zaziecurie & @the-not-so-dark-age Thank you for your inputs and yes, that would explain a lot about Government agents and other Marine recruits.

@starrynight32 I’ve been considering this possibility ever since Kaido was stated to be immortal. Maybe only Law can take the immortality from him. Something like “what the Ope Ope no Mi gives, only the Ope Ope no Mi can take”.

@katsunenpiece Well, it has something to do with Blackbeard’s Jolly Roger being the only one featuring three skulls and whatnot. See, most of the other flags represent the captain of a crew in one way or another; they always have one skull because it represents one person, but Blackbeard’s has three to represent one person.

This comment from Marco at the very end of chapter 577 adds to the theory and some people interpret it as Blackbeard having three different DNAs in him, thus he is three people into one and the reason he can have more than one DF power without them clashing and destroying him. It’s all speculation, but it’s an interesting take, especially since it’s true that Teach’s Jolly Roger IS the only one with three skulls, which is really curious unto itself.
Now for your other set of tags.

I hope for the same. Will Oda explain it though? I just don’t know, but I’d like to know.

@mapofallblue Yay! More Hajrudin fans. I’m actually surprised I’m not the only one who liked him, since there’s barely any fanart or meta posts of him. I’ve always loved the giants ever since Dorry and Brogy. Then again I’m really biased because I just love ancient Norse culture, it’s fascinating.

@kartellthings That’s exactly what I mean. Apart from that, I also heard that his editors announced that this arc was going to end by the end of May or the end of June; there are literally four chapters left (if he doesn’t take any breaks) for this arc to end according to that deadline. I don’t really think he’ll be able to properly finish the arc in four chapters and it’ll be a bit longer than that, but if he were to be trying to meet that deadline, the story might suffer. I may be wrong, though. Maybe he’ll manage to pull off something like that, but for the time being, I highly doubt it. Thanks a bunch for your input!

@hawk-in-a-tree I absolutely agree with you. You said it all, nothing else to add :)

@the-not-so-dark-age I feel you! I suddenly NEED this to be Bonney’s backstory. As I said in the post: Oda, make it happen! ... Pretty please? Thanks for adding your opinion!
And last, but not least:

@chance4choice No problem. Even if you had still disagreed with me, it would have been fine as well. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I’m not here to fight with anyone, so yeah, no hard feelings on my part :)

@hawk-in-a-tree LOL I’m glad I have my net back, too. I was going crazy because I could literally do nothing: no OP episode, unable to answer asks or work on meta/raffle prizes, unable to communicate with three of my closest friends... ‘Twas Hell, I’m telling you! HELL!

@mssarahkathryn Oh, don’t worry, your first comment was clear enough. The thing is, I’d seen quite a few posts claiming that people who are against Pudding’s recent development did not want complex characters and the like, so I kind of took the opportunity to make that clear while answering to your comment seeing as it was about that same subject. Sorry for the confusion ^^; That said, I must say that I’m happy about Big Mom’s flashback not having that “pity factor” I mentioned. Then again, she’s not one of the beautiful/cute female villains either... Nevertheless, I appreaciate the fact that Oda is letting her be one of the bad guys.
As usual, if I forgot anyone, it’s more than likely because I didn’t get a notification about it. Big thanks to all of you!
