Eilean Mo Chridhe (14)
Whaaat, two chapters in one week? Mark this on your calendars - it’s a miracle. Thanks for all the amazing feedback, you all rock!
14 | Previous
The forward operating base was staged in the remains of a once beautiful, vibrant Belgian farming town. Now, the people were gone, long since evacuated from the rubble that was their homes, and the military had moved in. The few buildings that were still fully standing, lucky enough to have somehow missed the constant barrage of shelling, had become the hospital and administrative buildings, all surrounded by dilapidated stone frameworks. It was in one of the ruins that Jamie eventually found Claire, preparing for Rabbie’s great escape.
There was no roof or windows and two of the walls had fallen but the former home was well sheltered from view, looking simply like rubble from the road. Claire had turned what was left of the chimney into a makeshift table where she would grind her herbs, away from the prying eyes of the hospital staff.
With time ticking down on Jamie’s 36-hour leave pass and Claire about to be preoccupied with helping them save their brother’s life, there was a few things he needed to speak with her about before it was too late.
“There ye are, lass,” he greeted as he walked over a pile of bricks where the front door once stood.
“I’m just deciding on the easiest way to administer an antidote,” Claire explained. “There are a few different herbs that can counteract a dose of alkaloids of this size. The simplest way would be to use activated carbon but I don’t know where I would find that around here.”
“How is it better?” Jamie asked. The passion Claire showed in her letters for healing and botany seemed subdued in comparison to hearing her speak of it and he wished he had forever to listen to her explain the how’s and why’s.
“It’s extremely absorbent,” Claire said. “It’s able to bind to molecules and remove substances that have already dissolved. A dose of activated carbon would have the belladonna out of your brother’s system almost immediately.”
“Speaking of my brother…”
He paused long enough to move around the table so they were mere inches away. So close Jamie could feel the heat radiating off her skin, the soft hairs of her arms standing on end to meet his. He lowered his head to look into her whisky-coloured eyes, hoping she wouldn’t think him daft for what he was about to suggest.
“I want ye to go wi’ him.”
“With your brother? To help him out of Belgium?”
“No,” he said, taking a light grip of Claire’s biceps. She felt so delicate, his hands easily wrapping full around to meet in the middle. “I want ye to go to Scotland, Claire. Get awa’ from this bloody place.”
“I can’t go to Scotland!” she scoffed, trying to move away though his hold on her prevented it. “I’m needed here.”
“Claire,” Jamie said with eyes pleading. “I need ye. I canna focus on keeping myself alive if I dinnae ken yer safe and if I die, I need to ken you’ll be taken care of.”
“How would I be taken care of?” Claire questioned. “It could be months before we ever made it to Scotland - ports are closed, I have no money. Do you expect me to wander the European countryside with a man I’ve never met then show up on your family’s doorstep looking for them to take care of me if you don’t come home? I can take care of myself.”
Tears were welling in her eyes at speaking the words of Jamie’s possible future aloud and he brushed them away softly as they tumbled over the edge and onto her cheeks.
“I ken ye can. It’s one of the many things I love about ye. But...they’ll be your folk, too,” he assured her. “As my wife.”
“Your wife?” she repeated quietly. “Are you sure?”
“I’ve never been more sure about anything in my entire life, mo nighean donn.”
“But how?”
Jamie smiled knowingly, “Lass, if there’s anything this army has plenty of it’s priests. Say the word and we could be wed afore supper.”
Claire’s heart rate increase as a thrill of excitement shot through her, leaving a trail of goose pimples in its wake. With every letter she got from Jamie over the months, deep down she had secretly hoped one of them would include an offer of marriage. This wasn’t exactly how she had ultimately envisioned their union taking place but if this was what being with him would mean, then she would take it.
“Won’t we rouse suspicion, when I’m the one who treats your brother?”
“They willna ken,” he assured her. “By the time anyone could even notice anything amiss, ye’ll both be gone. Ye must promise me that ye’ll go. So much of yer life has been spent taking care of somebody else, Claire. Let me take care of you now.”
“Yes.”
***
“Jamie, where are ye goin’?” Willie called out as Jamie made his way quick march across the camp.
“To find a priest!”
“Not to confession, I hope!”
Jamie rolled his eyes, it was just like his brother to assume he wouldn’t make it a full hour before he needed to confess his sins to the Almighty.
“Dinna fash, a bhalaich. I need to see the man about a wedding!”
Willie was stunned into silence as they continued to walk along the uneven road, dodging stretcher bearers and men on horseback.
“Jamie, ye’ve never even mentioned this lass before and now ye want to marry her?”
“Willie,” Jamie stopped and turned to his brother, holding him by both shoulders as he looked into the face that was so much like his own in spite of their many differences. “I’ve loved Claire since the very moment I laid eyes on her, months ago. She’s the only lass I want tae be wi’. If I die, I want to ken my pension goes to her. Trust me when I say she’s the only lass for me.”
Though his brother was ranting something about his lunacy, Jamie didn’t quite hear the words, distracted by a supply wagon just behind where they stood. Two men were unloading the wagon with crates destined for the front full of rations, trench timbers, ammunition and other necessities.
“Go find a priest, I have tae do something,” he muttered, pushing Willie toward the administration buildings, ignoring his brother’s weak protests as the elder walked off in a huff to complete the task.
Jamie took a quick inventory of the contents of the wagon as he approached the two men unloading and cataloging everything.
“Excuse me!” he announced his presence, catching the attention of the supply crew. They both hopped to attention, saluting him in recognition for his rank. “Were you not instructed to bring this crate to the hospital, Private?”
The men looked both curious and confused by the small crate Jamie had pointed out, just one of a set of ten that was on the back of the wagon.
“That one, Sir?”
“Yes,” Jamie acknowledged. “Clearly the message wasn’t delivered in a timely fashion. I’ll take it myself!”
“Sir, I think perhaps we should wait until the message…”
“Private!” Jamie interrupted, standing at full height, back ramrod straight to make the two feel more inferior than they already did. “I said I’ll take it myself. They need this over at the hospital straight away.”
“Yes, Sir.”
Jamie picked up the small crate from the back of the wagon, walking casually away from the supply station until he was out of sight and able to break into a full sprint back to where he’d left Claire. He burst over the rubble holding the small crate victoriously in front of himself.
“That’s not a priest,” she said rhetorically.
“No, it’s not,” Jamie chuckled. She looked on in curiosity as he pulled a knife from his belt and pried open the wooden crate. “Ye said ye needed activated carbon, yes?”
“Yes, why…” Claire began to ask when Jamie triumphantly pulled out a small box respirator. A face mask was connected to a corrugated tube with a filter on the end for soldiers to use during chlorine gas attacks in the trenches. Jamie pulled the filter free from the tube and using the knife, separated the top from the base so she could see the black powder inside.
“Activated carbon, lass. I found it.”
Claire let out a whoop of joy, jumping into Jamie’s arms so fast he nearly dropped the filter. He wrapped one arm tightly around her, unable to keep himself from pressing his lips firmly against hers. They tentatively explored, each taking a turn tugging the other’s bottom lip gently. Reluctantly, Jamie pulled away, dropping one final kiss to Claire’s nose.
“Ahem,” Willie cleared his throat to both announce his presence and dispel some of the sexual tension in the room, “Yer priest is here and he’s willing to wed ye.”

Expedition of the Heart: Fashionably Nervous
Thank you all for your patience! Here’s the next installment of my young Ian AU, which I just love! HUGE thank you once again to @akb723 for being the best beta ever. And also the genius behind all the titles (seriously she's amazing). Anywhooooo, I hope you enjoy reading! As always, leave me a comment or drop an ask to my inbox if you’ve got questions! Also if you want to be tagged in future updates of this series, please send me a direct request.
Catch up here: Prologue, 1, 2, 3, 4
Rollo sneezed and Ian turned to glare at him. The dog just stared back.
“It’s a date, Rollo. I need to look nice.”
The contents of his small closet had exploded all over his bed and floor, clothes heaped in untidy piles without thought. He lived a simple life and didn’t spend much money on his appearance. Every few months he got his hair cut, bought new clothes when his old ones wore out, and got Rollo his supplies. Otherwise his money went into his savings and the few miscellaneous needs that come up from time to time. A knock came at his door and Ian hurriedly pulled on a pair of jeans.
“Come in,” he said.
Auntie Claire walked in, her eyes bugging out at the state of his room.
“I don’t believe I’ve ever seen your room like this before,” she said, trying to stifle a laugh.
“Auntie, help me?”
“When is your date?” she said sympathetically
Ian sighed and sat on a corner of his bed.
“Wednesday. It’s her day off this week.”
Claire lifted an eyebrow.
“You must be special if she’s spending her precious time off with you. Jamie said you’re doing a picnic?”
“Aye. I wanted to do something nice for her. The weather should hold steady this week, but I’ve got an umbrella and blanket packed in my car to be safe.”
“Only one blanket? What will you both sit on?”
His face flushed.
“An extra, uh blanket, I mean. Uncle Jamie said I could borrow the nice picnic blanket he got ye a few years back?”
His auntie smiled at him.
“That’s perfect. Now, what is it you need help with?”
Ian waved vaguely at the mass of clothes piled on his bed.
“I dinna ken what to wear, Auntie. I want her to see I ken how to look after myself, that I’ve a good, steady job, but… I dinna want to look like a dandy either.”
She mad a hmmm noise as she began picking through the options. He did his own laundry, so she wasn’t overly familiar with what he had.
“This is all you’ve got?”
“Aye. Weel and the suit mam sent for Christmas last year. And my kilt. But… I dinna want to bring that out just yet.”
Auntie Claire eyed him critically before she sighed.
“You know… I’m not exactly the best person to ask for fashion advice.”
Ian nearly groaned.
“Auntie, I dinna have anyone else to ask!”
“Well, you could call your mum. I’m sure she’d be more than happy to help you choose exactly what you need, and I know she’d love to hear about Rachel too.”
Relief flooded Ian’s veins at the thought of speaking to his mam. He grabbed Claire up in a big hug before pulling his phone from his pocket. The door closed quietly behind his aunt as she left him in peace.
Ian felt a little nervous as his listened to the ringing. He hadn’t told his family about any of his other girlfriends, but Rachel was different.
“Ian?”
The sharpness of his mother’s tone pulled him from his thoughts.
“Aye, mam.”
“Are ye alright, lad? Is anything the matter?”
For a moment, he was confused at her question.
“What’s the lad done now?” came his father’s muffled voice.
Belatedly, Ian looked at the clock and winced.
“I’m sorry, mam. Nothing’s wrong, I promise. I didna look at the time before I rang. I’m sorry I woke ye up.”
“Why are ye callin’? Did something happen?”
“Weel… I need your help. I… I asked a girl out.”
The phone went silent for so long Ian worried he’d dropped the call.
“Mam?”
“What girl? Who did ye ask out?”
“Her name is Rachel. She’s a nurse at Auntie’s hospital. She’s… Mam she’s beautiful. I’m takin’ her out on Wednesday and I dinna ken what to wear.”
Ian heard the sound of an old door close as his mother left her bedroom.
“Ye’ve never called about a girl before, Ian. What’s so special about this one?”
“I… I dinna ken, exactly. But I like her. I waited up to sit wi’ her while she had a short break in the middle of the night. She agreed to go out wi’ me.”
“Oh Ian,” she said softly. “I’m so happy for ye. Tell me about her. What’s she look like?”
Ian sat on his bed and told his mother everything he knew about Rachel, which wasn’t much.
“Alright, alright. So ye need help pickin’ what to wear, aye?”
“How did ye ken that?”
“It may have been a long time since I last laid eyes on ye, Ian Murray, but I’m yer mother and I ken how ye are. Now go turn on the video call and show me what options ye have.”
He sighed and looked around the room.
“It’s a bit of a mess…”
“Dinna make excuses.”
With a few taps on his phone, he pulled up the video and smiled at his mam. She looked tired, but gave him a warm smile.
“Ye look good, lad.”
“Thanks mam.”
“Now gi’ us a look at yer clothes.”
Ian turned the camera around and did as his mother instructed. Half an hour later, they’d put together a respectable outfit. As he cleaned up the rest of his mess, his mam gave him the big family update. It had been some time since he’d learned what all his siblings were doing and it was nice to listen to his mam talk.
“So ye promise me, Ian. Promise you’ll ring after ye’ve gone out wi’ wee Rachel.”
“Aye, mam. I promise to call ye as soon as I can.”
Suddenly the elder Ian’s face filled the small screen.
“Are ye still talkin’ to the lad?” his father asked.
“Aye!” Jenny said, pushing her husband out of the way. “Get yer big head out of my face.”
Ian laughed, watching his parents. A sharp stab of homesickness stole his breath for a moment.
“Ye look good, son,” Ian’s father said.
“Thanks, Da.”
Jenny’s face came back into focus on the screen.
“I’m afraid my morning’s started now your da’s up.”
“Aye, I’ll let ye go then.”
“Dinna wait so long to ring again, Ian. I miss the sound of your voice.”
A lump formed in his throat and he coughed to dislodge it.
“I’ll ring ye soon, Mam. Promise.”
“I love ye, Ian.”
“Love ye too, Mam.”
She gave him a warm smile before the video call ended. Christ he missed his family. Maybe he’d have to start planning a trip back for a visit. If all went well with Rachel, perhaps he could bring her along.
Rollo, who had fallen asleep while Ian had spoken with his mam, suddenly barked himself awake. He looked at Ian with a puzzled expression before shaking himself.
“Dinna fash, Rollo. Mam helped me find somethin’. Lets take ye out to do yer business before we go to bed, aye?”
Ian patted his leg and led the dog out.
***
Claire looked out her bedroom window, watching her nephew and his dog. Her husband came up behind her, hair still dripping from his shower.
“He’s a good lad,” Jamie said.
“He is. And he’s got a date.”
“Aye, so he told me.” Jamie turned Claire to face him, grinning down at her. “The lad’s near terrified to take this lass out.”
Claire smiled back, brushing the wet, red hair from his face.
“We were never that young, were we?”
“Young? Nah. Terrified to ask a beautiful lass out on a date? Och aye. I remember that verra well.”
“What I remember,” she said, tracing feather-light circles on his bare shoulders. “Is wondering why you fancied a harried nurse like me. I know of at least six other nurses who hated that you brought me coffee.”
Jamie gave a deep chuckle, arms sliding around her to pull her in close.
“How could I see anyone else wi’ you right there?”
“And you still feel that way? After all these years?”
Rather than offer a reply, he met her gaze. His blue eyes were dark with desire and adoration, holding her attention until she knew the truth. He loved her to the depths of his very soul and she held his heart in her hands. Reaching up, she pressed her lips to his and sighed.
“I feel exactly the same way,” she whispered against his mouth.
Then he gathered her in his arms and showed her just how much he loved her.

Tale Time #10
He ran through hundreds of ways to start, but each one seemed worse than the last. He had no right to speak to her and he knew it, so he stared at his hands and kept trying to breathe. Finally, Claire pushed the envelope in front of him and very quietly said
“Looks like your time’s up. We don’t have to deal with this now if you’d prefer. We’ll get you ready, and for the sake of keeping you alive, we can pretend everything is fine. Alright?”
Looking down he read the return address and he understood her calm. She would know more than almost anyone else in his life why he couldn’t fight this battle right now. He had to focus everything he had on the one he was getting shipped to.
Finishing her water, she uncurled herself from the chair, stood, and held out her hand to Jamie. He could have cried at the look of undeserved tenderness in her eyes. He wanted to fight her, to have her yell or scream, or do anything other than what she was doing for him. He didn’t deserve her in any form, but certainly not the warmth and love of her body that she was clearly offering. Taking her hand, he silently allowed her to take him to their bedroom, removed his clothes, and allowed himself to be unburdened within her for however long he needed tonight. Only when her breathing evened out did he allow himself to cry.

Outlander Fanfic Relay #9
Hello everyone, this is @akb723 with part #9 of the Outlander Fanfic Relay! I apologize for using almost the entire week, but I hope you enjoy it.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8
They had stayed wrapped in each other’s arms for who knows how long, just breathing each other in. Claire had fallen asleep on his shoulder and the solid weight of her slowly relaxed him. The knowledge that she seemed to trust him enough to sleep near him struck him so cleanly it was like a bolt of lightning to the heart and, with that impact, his eyelids began to fall and his grip on her waist tightened just a bit as their breathing synced and evened out.
------- Everything smelt wet.
Looking around, he couldn’t place where he was. It was lush and green, but like nowhere he thought he had ever been. He slowly looked around, trying to take everything in. It was stunning. This was different than before. There was sun filtering through to where he stood and shadows were cast around him from the tall trees. There was no all-encompassing darkness here.  All around him was beauty and life.  Every tree and flower seemed to be in full bloom. Birds chippered and splashed as they took off and landed in what he could only assume was some body of water nearby. At the end of a fully made circle to try and take in everything, he noticed a clearing several meters away and a carriage off to the side.
He moved in the direction of the clearing and with each step voices could be heard more clearly. The absolute hatred and malice in the voices made his blood run cold and then boil. He couldn’t understand it, but he was suddenly furious and needed to get closer.
He began to run, weaving in between the trees and as he got closer, the people. He hadn’t noticed, the only things registering as he ran was the sudden, all-consuming blood rage and the squelching sound of the ground beneath his boots as he moved forward. The serenity and beauty of his surroundings was gone. He could faintly hear grunting and yelling, as well as the sound of blades clashing over his pulse that hammered hard in his ears. The closer he got; the more a rage clouded his mind. He needed to get there.
As suddenly as his rage had started, it vanished. A bone-deep terror filled him so quickly he almost kept running as all sound around him was replaced with a scream filled with equal parts agony and desperation.
Sound came back as the crowd around him rushed forward and men in the distance yelled, but he was no longer running, in fact he was frozen. Because as the crowd moved the source of that scream was revealed and the world stopped.
“Claire!” He screamed as loud as he could, though he doubted she would hear him over everything else. He tried to move towards her, but each foot seemed to sink deeper into the wet earth beneath him.
“Claire!” He tried again, and this time she looked up. She was pale and terrified, she opened her mouth, but nothing came out.
Holding out a hand to him, she managed two words as pain visibly ripped through her body and she crumpled to the ground.
“Jamie, Help!”
With that final plea, the crowd surrounded her, and he could see to no more.
 -------
Jamie woke with a start, not fully aware of where he was until the pleasant weight of Claire, who was now laying on his chest brought him back to the present.
He smiled, closed his eyes again, and took a deep breath.
The bitter taste of adrenaline filled his mouth.
His eyes stayed closed, delaying the recognition of why his clothes felt wet.
All he could smell was blood.
@caitbalfes you’re up!!!

Perfect Distractions
A/N: I’m alive! That flu really kicked my ass and I had to miss a couple days of work and the date I had planned fml LOL But luckily, we’re back on schedule!
Thanks so much to everyone for being so patient and understanding! And thanks to @notobessedcrazyperson @greeniebee @pissedoffsoka13 @ladyviolethummingbird @fantasticfrasers @akb723 @snowmountains74 and @bemman2 for the well wishes and flu-fighting advice! <3 <3 You guys really are the best!
Fergus was definitely not pickpocketing probably, Jamie thinks his hair is going grey, and as always, all the facts of this fanfic are contrived specifically to make fluffy university/modern-day au scenarios. Please let me know what you think!
Part One: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] | Part Two: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4] | Part Three: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] | Part Four: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] | Part Five: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4] | Part Six: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] | Part Seven: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] | Part Eight: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4] | Part Nine: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4] | Part Ten: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] | Part Eleven: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] | Part Twelve: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [ Chapter 3] [Chapter 4] | Part Thirteen: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4] | Part Fourteen: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4] [Chapter 5] Part Fifteen: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] | Part Sixteen: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] | Part Seventeen: [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] | Part Eighteen: [Chapter 1]
Part Eighteen: Echoes | Chapter 2
By the time they made it to the town proper, Fergus was nowhere to be seen.
His assailant however, was stalking down the opposite side of the road. With little more than shared nod, Jamie ran across the street, leaving Claire to find Fergus as soon as possible.
This was perhaps – technically – her fault. She’d been the one so adamant to bring him along, despite Jamie’s very rational argument that nothing was stopping the boy from going into town himself.
But she couldn’t explain it, no more than she could explain the instinctual tug that pulled her to Jamie, made her feel at home in Lallybroch’s halls.
She wished she could somehow conjure that instinctual tug now though as she walked up and down the streets in search of Fergus’ telltale brown curls.
Echoes of her conversation with Jamie in the mill pond the other night were swirling in her head as she walked up and down the street. They’d danced around the idea of their little ‘someday’ with a fair amount of levity for a topic so serious. But, as most things did with Jamie, sheer earnest honesty came easily. His unjudging pools of blue drawing every single one of her hopes and dreams from her lips.
It was no secret she adored children; playing with wee Jamie ranked high on her list of favourite Lallybroch activities. She often missed listening to Angie’s Taglish recounting of her school day and, in her quieter moments, she imagined Eli’s large brown eyes, expectantly curious, staring up at her.
Her relationship with Fergus was no different, if not bolstered even more so after her return. She felt particularly responsible for him, felt the need to educate, advocate, reprimand, care for…
Good God, the maternal instinct was really coming out in full force. She shook her head, refocusing her efforts as she paused to scan across the opposite side of the street.
And finally, she caught sight of him on the other side of the road, further down from the intersection she was standing by. His head was darting in all directions, looking side to side before checking behind him.
Fists determinedly balled at her sides, she waited for her light to turn green so she could run over and grab him.
But then—she saw it, like watching in slow motion.
Before she could shout for him, her legs froze.
She staggered backward, voice dying in her throat as the blood in her body went cold.
---
“And what the hell do ye think ye’re doing, hmm?” Jamie said, yanking Fergus out of the road by the collar.
Just in time too, as a truck came barrelling down the street, horn honking madly as it came and went.
“Mon dieu,” Fergus breathed out, one hand on his chest. “Thank you M’sieur, I almost—”
“Dinnae thank me,” Jamie said sharply, grabbing at the boy’s thin arm and pulling him towards the red-faced man from earlier. “Ye have something of his, aye?”.
“O-oui,” the boy said, defeated, as he fished into his pocket and held out the man’s money clip.
“Ye ought to watch that boy of yers more carefully!” the man barked before fuming away, shaking his head.
Jamie heaved a sigh as they watched him go before rounding back to Fergus.
“Aye, ‘boy of mine’, I recall a certain agreement between you and I regarding pickpocketing.”
“I didn’t! I swear it, M’sieur!” he said, arms up and palms open. “I picked it off of the ground and before I knew, that man was chasing me.”
Jamie pinched the bridge of his nose, briefly contemplating how likely he was to go white-haired after taking the boy in. The irony of the situation just after his and Claire’s conversation the other night was not lost to him in the slightest.
“Well, regardless, we should be headin’ back anyway. Where’s Claire?”
Fergus blinked.
“Is she not with you?”
“Nay, we split up to find you, ye wee gomeral.”
“Pas de probleme, there she is!”
They saw her leaning against the side post of a building across the street and quickly made their way to the crossing to head over.
“Madmoiselle?”
Jamie tensed when he saw her, rushing over immediately to take both of her hands in his. She was cold, and clammy, and as ashen as the overcast sky.
“Sassenach? Claire! What’s wrong, mo chridhe?” he said, taking her by the forearms to shake her gently.
Coherence slipped back into her glassy stare as she registered his presence.
“Jamie,” she said shakily. “F-Fergus, is he…?”
“I’m fine, Mademoiselle,” he answered, looking ever concerned.
She crumpled into Jamie’s arms at the confirmation, and he stumbled to keep her upright, held tight against him. Burying her face into his chest, she began to shake. Pressed so close together, he was sure she could hear his panicked pulse, but he couldn’t care less at the moment.
As always, all that mattered was her.
He scooped her up into his arms before turning an eye to Fergus.
“Ye ken the tree at the edge of the property?”
Fergus nodded as Jamie carefully held Claire’s shaking frame with one arm and reached for his wallet with the other.
“Buy some water, and food, then meet us there.”
He nodded again, looking singularly determined as he bolted down the street.
“It’s alright, mo graidgh, hush now. I have ye, ye’re safe.”
He murmured to her, soft and low, as he walked her out of town, all the while praying to himself.
Lord, let me be enough.

I always need you by @bonniebird17
Suits crossover. Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp working together at the law firm, Cameron Randall Mackenzie. The lawyer and secretary. Twelve years and their relationship has been a blurry line of you are the most important person in my life with we don’t speak about what how we really feel. (Suits, 2011-present)
Double Agent  by erinmangerer
Two of my favorite fandoms collide- the story of Alias told with the characters of Outlander! Claire Beauchamp's life is full of secrets. When one decision crumbles her world around her, she must lean on old relationships and new allies to find justice and reclaim her life. (Alias, 2001-2006)
His Girl by @listentothewordsyousay
Based on the BBC show Our Girl (2013-Present)
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 4
Chapter 5
Chapter 6
Chapter 7
Chapter 8
Chapter 9
Chapter 10
Chapter 11
Two Hearts of Stone by rebeccasbunch
AU that takes place after Outlander 410 and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend 411. Roger MacKenzie goes through the standing stones and ends up in West Covina, California, where he befriends Nathaniel Plimpton III.  (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend 2015-present)
I'll be there for you by  sassenachwaffles @sassenachwaffles
I knew I was in trouble when he moved in. I had known somewhere deep inside, that sharing an apartment with Jamie Fraser was going to be a problem. But, I had needed the help to pay the rent and he was the only suitable person who met my obscene standards.
He was clean, respectful, and didn’t mind my coming and going at odd hours. He was a hard worker, Adso loved him, and all the references on his application had stellar reviews about him. He was also extremely charming and good-looking. I had started to fall for him the moment he came over for a tour of the apartment, though, I hadn’t wanted to admit it to anyone- let alone myself.
The problem was, I was with Frank, and he had a girlfriend—But Jamie Fraser was my best friend, and that was all.  (New Girl 2011-2018)
Dr. B, Medicine Woman by CrossingInStyle @crossinginstyle
Claire Beauchamp is trying to make her way as a woman doctor in the 19th century. After the death of her uncle and only supporter, she decides to risk everything to travel to a small frontier town in Colorado in need of a doctor. There, she meets Mac, a mysterious, quiet man who lives among the Cheyenne, and becomes a sudden mother to three orphaned children.
Yes, it's Dr. Quinn/Outlander remix! (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman 1992-1998)
The Writer Who Loved Me by @sassenachwriter
The concept was inspired by the tv show/book series Castle. If you’ve watch Castle, don’t expect too much references. Only the basic story was inspired by it: Jamie is a journalist and follows Claire around (who in that case is a doctor, not a cop) to write his article. (Castle 2009-2016)
Outlander Forever by Kazroo
While not a cross-over in the strict sense of the meaning, I have appropriated several plot devices from both the current show about immortals, Forever, and another earlier show about an immortal, New Amsterdam (which starred Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) that I actually preferred the back-story for, and pulled them into a purely Outlander character-scape. The Outlander references are a mix of the books and the TV series, so don't jump down my throat on date differences!
Simply put, Jamie Fraser is immortal, and his path is about to cross once again with Claire, and Brianna, the daughter he has never had the chance to meet. Picking up where Dragonfly in Amber left off, what happens if Claire can't go back, but Jamie never dies? (Forever 2014-2015)
Unearthed by  @jewelsbrooke, @livinginafanficworld
An invitation from the Forensic Anthropology Society of Europe sets Claire Beauchamp on an exciting path of murder, mystery, and intrigue. Little does Claire know, bones aren’t the only things being unearthed in Edinburgh, Scotland. (Bones 2005-2017)
Scotham by @bonnie-wee-swordsman
Prompt: “Perhaps something Christmas themed? Or an AU where Jamie and Claire are a badass crime-fighting duo, taking on the criminal red coat gang in the seedy underbelly of the city…sorry, mind got away from me there :P” (Gotham 2014-Present)
New Life by Nikki_Herzog
Claire Beauchamp arrives to her new job as a nurse at the Scottish Helicopter Ambulance Service, where she meets helicopter pilot Jamie. (Medicopter 117, 1998-2007)
COVERT OPERATIONS by @sablelab
The most covert of all antiterrorist organizations, wages war against those who would destroy … or at the very least reorder… society. Its adversaries, who have remained beyond the reach of normal police and intelligence agencies, are many, and they are ruthless, and so Section resorts to measures that would be unacceptable for most government organizations. For this reason, Section jealously guards its anonymity. It recruits criminals and killers and gives them a choice: death or life as a Section operative. It’s usually a rather short life for operatives are expendable, and losses are high, but then so are the stakes in a global power struggle against sinister terrorist organizations such as the Triad group called ‘The Rising Dragons’. (La Femme Nikita 1997-2001)
Women of Balnain by @suhailauniverse
Special Agent Claire Beauchamp finds herself working a case of a missing young woman and unexpectedly partnered with a highly unorthodox Detective who challenges her in ways she never thought possible. Little did she know, this was the beginning of a journey that would change her life forever. (The X-Files 1993-Present)
Everything Happens For a Reason by @akb723
A close group of friends learn to live and move on after the unexpected death of one of their own.  (A Million Little Things 2018)
Outlander Who? by  MotherOfBeardedDragons
The TARDIS unexpectedly lands in the 18th century Scottish highlands. The Twelfth Doctor runs into a cave to hide from the redcoats and meets an odd couple hiding out there. The three have a lot more in common than they realize. AKA I just really want the Doctor to travel to Scotland and hang out with Jamie and Claire. (Doctor Who 2005)
Borrowed some from @thelallybrochlibrary Crossover’s Theme Post
If you know of any other Outlander fics that are based off of non-Outlander TV shows, feel free to add!

Eilean Mo Chridhe (12)
12 | Previous
They were shoulder to shoulder in the back of a truck, rumbling down the road along with a group of wounded being transferred from the front to the closest camp - a Belgian forward operating post where the hospital, senior administration and the disciplinary barracks were located.
“What’s the plan?” Willie asked, watching his brother deep in thought. His fingers were tapping a march against the outside of his thigh. There was no response, just a far off daze.
“Jamie. James! Sheumais!”
“Aye, I hear ye,” Jamie replied testily. The truth was, he didn’t have the slightest idea what their next move should be. He knew before he asked if they could see Robert that they would not be leaving him to die. They would setting their brother to his freedom, and only had a few hours to figure out how.
“Why is it no’ you making this plan? Yer the elder, yer meant to be taking care of me and Rabbie.”
Willie nodded solemnly, his eyes cast downward toward his hands. “I have to face reality, brother. We only have one chance and we canna muck it up. Yer the smart one, I ken ye are. I trust yer mind.”
Jamie was suddenly aware that they weren’t alone in the back of the truck. Although all of the other men were injured, it didn’t mean they were deaf and even keeping their voices low there would be potential to be overheard. It would only take one person to alert Captain Randall to their discussion and they would quickly find themselves side by side, three across, when the firing squad was called together.
“Uilleam,” he spoke his brother’s name in a hushed tone. Understanding the silent suggestion, they both switched to the Gàidhlig, using their native language as a way to hide their discussion from the other occupants of the truck.
As the wheels squealed to a stop, they had come up with the best plan they could given the time allowed. It had to go exactly as planned in order for all of them to make it out alive. They needed to create enough of a distraction to get the Military Police away from where they were keeping Robert and free him. At least if he could make a run for it then there was a chance he might live. There was still the risk of being found by the Germans while on the run, or being picked up by any group of Allied soldiers that would ultimately return him to the British and put him right back where he started, but they had to try.
Teams of doctors and nurses began unloading the wounded from the back of the truck, calling out orders and directions to the people around them. Jamie and Willie filed off behind them and tried to make their way through the throngs of people toward the front where Captain Randall would be waiting.
Randall stepped out of the truck, giving the two of them a disgusted once over. “Wait here,” he instructed and marched off with another MP at his side.
Jamie resisted the urge to pace, instead he closed his eyes and turned his face to the sky. It was overcast, but he could still feel the sun’s warmth doing its best to radiate through the clouds.
“Jamie,” Willie nudged his shoulder. “A lass is eyeing ye up.”
“The kilt tends to draw attention from the locals, I wouldna pay any mind to it.”
“She’s coming this way.”
He heard her before he saw her, calling his name from the other side of the crowd.
Claire.
As though draw together by magnets, he found himself moving in her direction without even putting thought into the action. He shuffled around stretcher bearers, men on crutches and other soldiers carrying about their business to reach her. He almost didn’t recognize her in the same pale lilac dress, white apron adorned with a large red cross and white cap as all the Belgian Red Cross volunteer nurses bustling around the area, but her whisky-coloured eyes and soft brown curls were unmistakable. He had dreamt of her every night, for so many nights, that even in the same clothes as everyone else, he would know those eyes anywhere.
They both stopped short once they were within arm’s reach, neither knowing what to do. Jamie wanted nothing more than to take her into his arms and kiss her like he’d never kissed anyone before, but it was not the appropriate time. Not only were they standing in a crowd of strangers that would surely look down upon Claire for such behaviour, but his reason for being there was still front and centre. He couldn’t lose focus, they had to save Robert.
“Are you hurt? What are you doing here?!” Claire gave him a quick once over, looking for any sign of injury through his mud-stained uniform.
“Claire. I’m so verra glad to see ye, lass. I’ve thought of you, so often. Ye came to me so many nights when I was cold and fevered, sleeping in the trenches with nothing but the memory of your touch on my hand to get me through to another dawn. I hoped to never see ye in a place like this, though. ”
She thought was raving, that his neurasthenia had weakened his nerves again and was how he found himself at a field hospital. She touched the back of her hand to his forehead, not detecting an elevated temperature. She continued poking and prodding at glands, taking a pulse, all while he simply watched her hands move over him with medical precision.
“James?” his brother’s voice broke him from his reverie and he shook his head free of the cloud that was Claire’s presence.
Jamie took Claire’s hands, putting an end to her ministrations. “I’m no ill, I promise ye,” he assured her with a brief glance to Willie. “We’re here on another matter. It’s my younger brother. He’s here, somewhere, set to face a firing squad in the morning and we’re going to stop it.”
Claire looked between Jamie and the man next to him, slightly shorter and wider, but unmistakably Jamie’s brother. They shared the same shock of red hair and slanted blue eyes, but also the same intensity of expression that left no doubt that they were serious in their plans.
“How can I help?”

Lets take a vote!
Alright my darlings, I know I haven’t been on in ages, and I’m sorry for that. Life’s been kinda crazy and I had to take a bit of a step away from writing. But, I miss it. A lot. But with all the open stories I have going (SO SO MANY) I can’t decide where to start. So I’ll give you a chance to vote on which one I tackle first. (This is all assuming my awesome betas are available.)
Voting will be open until Monday, July 8. Comment below which story you want me to tackle. I’m limiting it to three of my more popular ones so it isn’t overwhelming.
1: Red Jamie and the White Lady (if @diversemediums is available and willing)
2: Expedition of the Heart (if @akb723 is available and willing)
3: A Wild Night in Vegas (if @outlandishchridhe is available and willing)
Please make sure to COMMENT which one you want so I can keep track of them all. I’ll make a post on July 9 about which story won and (ideally) have the chapter out the following week. I promise to keep you updated. Thanks for your patience.
