First furlough project that is nearly finished (we have a couple going at once). ✅ paint (Madison picked the color) and patched walls. ✅closet clean out, purge and organize. ✅paint dresser (1st time I finished a refinishing project in a week within bringing it home). ✅pictures hung. Still needed: ✅new curtains (if you give a mouse a cookie). Various befores are at the end. The room is kind of long and narrow so the angles are hard to photograph. This week has just flown by, hasn’t it? All the days seem to roll into one while I’m on furlough. But I’ve been keeping busy putting everything into my little side hustle business. Although the wedding industry side of my stationery has just just whittled down to nothing at the moment, I’ve really enjoyed being able to work on my greeting card designs. This is the last set from volume 2 of the Book of Days. If if four double(ish) page pics as spring started to head toward early summer. The first was the little shrine on the balcony with two statues. The lying down one is called Paranirvana (final Nirvana or Nirvana without remainder) It represents the death of the historical Buddha. He is considered to have achieved the bliss of Nirvana (which translates as something like “blown out” or “snuffed out” -in the sense that the burning suffering of the delusion of separate ego was irreversibly ended) at the age of around 33 when he became enlightened. This means He ended all His sufferings such as anger, fear, disappointment etc . Nirvana without remainder means not only psychological suffering but the physical suffering of an aged and tired body ended at death. There was no remaining ego to take further rebirths in cyclic suffering so it is considered the Buddha’s consciousness achieved the deathless state and ultimate bliss of oneness with the universe. It is at once a solemn and dignified yet joyful image of release. In front of him is a seated Buddha in meditation. The next page is Kev lying in a not dissimilar position luring the cat who was hiding behind the couch. Next was a bronze sculpture of a worker I had bought in Amsterdam once; drawn as a recognition of our very tough financial situation in lockdown. Kev had been furloughed but LIAS had lost our teaching space and received nothing in terms of supposed government aid for self employed. Last is an image difficult to explain here of a piece of work from a while back where I had made an armoured metal shirt out of a skinhead polo shirt to offer to another Buddha called wrathful Vajrapani, who appears with a halo of fire, to help Him rescue living beings from hell.
