Taiyaki (glutenfree)

I recently purchased this electrical taiyaki iron. I have been looking for one with a reasonable price that will ship to Norway for many years! I am so happy right now. I made some with cheddar, and some with Nutella. Both were nice, but sadly the cheese was a bit bland and not very mature and could have been better. You really want cheese that packs some umami I think to balance the sweetness :)

I adapted one of the recipes from the notelet included.

Mix together:

3 1/2 cups gf cake flour ( I used Schär pattisserie)

4 tsp sugar

1 tsp salt

8 tsp baking powder

Add and mix well:

3 cups milk

Add and mix:

5 eggs

Add and mix well until fluffy:

1 cup or 2 sticks or 240gr butter, softened

I have seen people using metal spoons to spread the mix in the pan, but I would suggest using a wooden spoon or a silicone spatula instead in order to not harm the non stick coating.

As you can see the recipe calls for a lot of butter. You can find all kinds of variants of batter if this sounds like too much to you. I will however say that this made them satisfyingly crunchy on the outside and wickedly soft and moist on the inside, and then you can decide for yourself :)

Personality:

Megan is a kind young girl who loves to help out those around her. She's very caring and supportive of those she considers friends, wanting to help in anyway she's able, and in fact she became a cooking attendant and opened her restaurant to support her mother who has several health problems.

Even if she's afraid of social interactions with strangers, citing a past she doesn't want to talk about, she's good at talking with strangers despite her saying she's horrible at it. She's terribly afraid of her friends and food souls leaving her thanks to her past, but she refuses to be clingy or the like.

She's extremely selfless when it comes to her food souls and has a tendency to take a hit for her food souls if she thinks it'll end them. Her food souls had warned her against this, but she refuses to stop, citing that she doesn't want to lose them. She can also get stuck in the middle of the battles when doing this and uses her offensive cooking skills to help take the enemy down as well as healing her food souls.

She has an extremely bad habit of overworking herself and putting too much on her plate which stresses her out extremely, even with her food souls she still does this so she isn't just sitting back and letting them do all the work.

She loves summoning new food souls because she loves getting to know each and every one of them, maybe even help them through their problems, plus... She sees them as friends and family. Both something she's never had a lot of before she became an attendant.

She was wearing a headband with little polar bear ears decorated with yellow ribbons instead of her usual beanie. "Happy Hearts Day! I've got the taiyaki machine heating up and made some gluten-free batter, plus plenty of ice cream and custard. Blinking in surprise at his name being yelled down the hall, Bepo twisted on his heel just as Ikkaku grabbed at his arm. Luckily he had a good hold on the box he was carrying, but it was quickly discarded onto the floor in favor of taking the offered gift from his crewmate. He looked at it for a moment, the distinct scent of sweet treats wafting up to his nose where he gave an interested sniff. Curious, he lifted the top of the box to reveal an array of candies and chocolates inside, and his face lit up instantly. Any time he got a gift that included something he enjoyed, a warmth bloomed in his chest. He really did belong to the best crew on the planet and he wouldn't trade them for anything. At Ikkaku's declaration that she was also making taiyaki for the party, Bepo's gaze snapped back up to her, already shoving one of the fish gummies into his mouth. He nodded excitedly as he chewed, possibly swallowing a bit too quickly so he could respond to her. ❝ Only the best parties have taiyaki! ❞ Bepo agreed as he reached out to poke at one of the ears protruding from the top of Ikkaku's head. ❝ I like these. Looking for Taiyaki soft serve? You just might want to hit up @stuffiespastriescafe @shopstc ! Found this little cafe that serves this awesome treat for $7 - and I got the buttery caramel flavour. The garnish was caramel candy, but it was a bit too hard. The ice cream was flavourful but maybe a tad too sweet, but overall great since it was gluten-free & dairy free. The fish cone was awesome, fresh and got sweeter the more you ate.
