In the first mission of Ricco Harbor in Super Mario Sunshine, Mario must initiate the boss battle against Gooper Blooper by pulling on a tentacle that is emerging from a stack of crates. If Mario pulls the tentacle in the intended direction, i.e. in the opposite direction from the crates, it will rip out easily.

However, if Mario grabs the tentacle and moves towards the crates, walking along the edge that is nearest to the buildings next to them, the tentacle will take a much longer distance to be ripped out, and will clip into the crates in the manner depicted as Mario is pulling it.

What's the best mario character/enemy?

I love these beasts

Yoshi has been my go-to character in spin-offs ever since I was a little bowties, thought if it wasn't for that longtime atachment to him I would be picking characters like Birdo, Boo, Rosalina, Petey, Luma and Chain-Chomp (though those last two only appeared in tennis)

in terms of the regular enemies, Chain-Chomps are probably my favorite! I like all the kinds of Boo and Piranha Plants as much as any other artist on the internet, I also have a big soft spot for bob-ombs, swoops, bloopers, the yoshi's island fuzzy, ninji, pokey (SMB2 had so many good designs) and scuttlebug, but like, the scuttlebug design after SM64, where they made look like a fuzzy spider friend
