Another Ursus girl, Gummy!

I never really pay attention to her before, but she's kinda cute, and has a lot of detail on her costume holy moly. I guess i'd scream if i have to draw more belt/strap.

I might color this later because honestly i color a lot of stuff this month and i'm a bit burned out of it (coloring is not really my thing)

Based on my dorms history and some of the costumes, I like to think that at some point the Ursus girls were in charge of one of Rhodes cafeterias as a part of their rehabilitation. I headcanon that there is a bunch of small cafes all over the ship that are designed to have a therapeutic effect on its patrons, and this one in particular has lots of greenery in it.

The girls were obviously given some help and guidance, but they were encouraged to figure out what to do with this place by themselves. So they promptly renamed it The Big Dipper and decided on their roles. Gummy is the chef; she works with the main kitchen, but she also personally comes up with the menu for this specific cafe. Rosa is the accountant/manager/barista; she has the best know-how to run an establishment and chatting with visitors helps her with understanding different perspectives. Istina is the waitress; since this place is so small, she can both observe and connect with people without feeling overwhelmed. Zima is the bouncer. This cafe doesn't actually need one, but it was the best job she could come up with; other than occasional incidents, she mostly makes sure no one litters and checks the plants (she got very attached to them). She and Istina also arranged a shelf with various books you can read during your meal. Finally, Leto sometimes comes to play live music. I don't know enough about her to come up with a more pronounced role, please, check back in about half a year for that ToT

I think we really need to give a collective shoutout to Gummy not only in general, but especially in IS2. The inability to rely solely on medics as healing due to the ever-present possibility that you won’t get medic vouchers means that a 4-star defender who heals with an autoskill is very, very convenient. Naturally this would allow some characters like Blemmy and Nearl to shine, but they shine enough both due to their capability, and also because of the fact that simply staring at them is enough to damage your retinas.

No, Gummy works well for a few simple reasons: 1) Her best sustaining skill in this game mode is her S1 2) Her S1 has no caveats other than its short charge. No requirements for the target to be under 50% HP, and no requirement to attack. As soon as it’s charged, it heals. This means she can waste it, but it also means that she’ll be willing to heal someone at 51% HP, something I find more annoying about the other healing defenders than helpful, especially because Nerve Damage is so prevalent. 3) Gummy being a 4 star is cheap to acquire, and can be gotten through temporary recruitment much more reliably than the likes of Saria and Blemishine. Especially if you’re like me and only pick the beginning squad that gives three random vouchers with one guaranteed temporary recruitment 4-star.

Earlier today I had an incredible IS2 run in which I’d gotten no medics, and I was now forced to do an emergency op of The Red Mist. I immediately wrote this off as an incredibly unfortunate level roll, and a guaranteed loss, but I had forgotten a couple of artifacts I’d gotten.

First was the No. 073 Safety Reagent

Yes this works with skills like Gummy’s healing. It essentially made her capable of fully healing anyone her S1 hit. But most importantly, was this item:

What they don’t tell you there is that “being attacked” essentially just means “taking damage”. It doesn’t have to actually come from an enemy, so hostile environments such as poisonous mist will give your defender the 2 SP every single time they take damage from it (constantly). With these two items, Gummy became more capable a medic than I could’ve asked. Nobody went down unless they were outside of her range, which meant that Schwarz and Meteor were capable of solo handling the two middle lanes without anyone other than Gummy to block. This is how the level ended.

do u guys ever think about how children of ursus' political themes work exactly with the armed struggle of reunion and go deeper with its parallel of classist society

when institutional injustice is exposed (reunion taking chernobog), the working class and lower classes of societies will first blame each other and infight, and quite literally, consume each other in a fight for resources while the upper echelons of society will remain unaffected. this starts with zima and co first having to fight for the resources vs their other same-class students, eventually having to quite literally eat them when resources go thin

when resources go thin, the upper classes become threatened and once the working class realizes the problem, they turn to the rich (zima realizing all the food is with the nobles). she goes off on her own to take the resources, but in doing so trips over a candelabra, something she didn't foresee at all. she simply wanted to eat, attempted to take from the many, but the candelabra represents the destablization of the upper class (of course in a micro environment) as a consequence of an attempt to take back what is rightfully theirs.

the survivors get to rebuild in their own way and reestablish new social norms (istina, gummy's operator records and the other children of ursus stories) with the added context and effects of what they experienced beforehand. there are those like absinthe who experienced completely different injustices and were not necessarily involved in class struggle, but she bears witness to its effects
