“Habrosyne e habra' nel mondo greco arcaico”
M. Lombardo
Physocarpus capitatus or pacific ninebark is a large deciduous shrub that grows to about 13ft in height. It’s an excellent choice for moist to wet areas, and is often used in riparian restoration around the pacific northwest. It’s not too picky about light conditions, and despite loving wet conditions...is quite drought tolerant. A few moths rely on this bush for survival, including the extremely striking Glorious Habrosyne (Habrosyne gloriosa) which has not been observed to be able to survive on any other plants.

@riannkrusnik13 submitted: This absolutely adorable and fuzzy smol lad who greeted me when I came home from work last night! Sorry for the poor lighting quality; the porch light washed out the subtle pink color this moth has despite my camera flash =<
I thought he was so cute and he reminded me of this giant gorgeous grapevine sphinx moth I met when I was younger back in southern OR ♡
The location of the pics are in the PNW, OR however! I'd love an ID but it's ok if you can't narrow this lovely lad down, since he deserves to be shared regardless =)
Oh wow this is a very fuzzy and adorable friend. It looks like a lettered habrosyne moth, but perhaps with some wing scales rubbed off? You can’t fully see the detail on the wings, maybe it was the flash that washed it out. Here’s what they look like normally:

@dozy-insomniac submitted: Found this little cutie snoozing on the wall outside my front door! The wing patterns are so pretty🦋 Found in Ljubljana, Slovenia
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang look at those wings! What a beautiful pattern. And my first submission from Slovenia, I think! Very exciting. Anyhoo this fine lad is a buff arches moth from the Drepanidae family which has some pretty neat moths. We have one in the US that looks just like this dude called the lettered habrosyne. The family also includes the hooktips which can be super funky-lookin’. Check out this pal:

Three quarters of the UK’s butterfly species have declined during the last decade; this is a warning that cannot be ignored. The English name of this species is derived from the moth's resemblance to burnt paper or similar substance.  It is widely distributed in England and Wales, sometimes fairly commonly, and also occurs though less commonly, in Scotland and Ireland.  Inhabiting woodland, the larvae feed on a range of deciduous trees, including oak (Quercus), birch (Betula) and sallow (Salix).  The main flight period is May and June. The adults are attracted to sugar, but only usually the males to light.
