𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: a dream of knights, magic, and a beast of divinity who's feathers felt all too real... your thumb runs over the silky carmine red wax of a letter's broken seal, as it had every night for the past week since you recieved the enevlope. the contents felt vaguely mysterious; your request for an off-campus student housing arrangement was approved, and the writer is pleased to inform you that you've been placed in a shinsoo corporation sponsored property along with seven other students. signed by cygnus, a representative of said company.
a reader insert college!au multi-part fic based in the maplestory universe, introducing each character you'll find yourself being roommates with.

☾. 𝐜𝐲𝐠𝐧𝐮𝐬 — the heiress to one of seoul's largest enterprises, shinsoo corp. majoring in international business to prepare for her birthright position at her family's company, cygnus has all the qualities of a great business woman. don't let her dreamy expression or airy personality fool you — she's as sharp and strategic as the best in the field.
☾. 𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 — an academic prodigy hailing from a small, rural town. he's secured himself as cygnus's right hand, and pursues a degree in accounting to develop a wide skillset that will be useful to cygnus when she takes over shinsoo corp. rather shrewd.
☾. 𝐦𝐢𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 — he's by no means a natural at anything, but his strong sense of justice, tenacity, and work ethic makes him excel in the field he's passionate for— criminal justice. he does administrative work at the local police department for part-time work, determined to have his own detective office one day.
☾. 𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭 — he has the intellect and physical ability to pursue anything he wants, but for a boy who was maliciously orphaned at a young age by the gross negligence of the company his parents worked for, and without reparations from an unfair legal system, a law degree seemed like the only option. cygnus jokes that eckhart can take out all of her competition when he becomes a prosecutor. at least, he's pretty sure that she's joking.
☾. 𝐡𝐚𝐰𝐤𝐞𝐲𝐞 — an upper class runaway from busan; his family owns a successful international trading firm. cygnus, recognizing him as the heir to one of her family's business partners, bent the rules to let him attend shinsoo high without his proper credentials, but he rekindled contact with his family in time to apply for college. although surprisingly observant with a great memory, his work ethic for subjects that didn't interest him wasn't going to win any scholarships. his affinity for various sports won him a full ride, and luckily so, since he refused to rely on his family's money. he majors in oceanography and hopes to dedicate his life to advocating for the ocean and it's inhabitants.
☾. 𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐚 — irena is the first of her family to attend college, originally growing up in a humble village on the country side. honoring her family's appreciation for nature, she studies environmental science and hopes to make an impact by working to nurture a cohabitual relationship between nature and humans.
☾. 𝐨𝐳 — oz comes from a long lineage of doctoral graduates in the stem field. she's content to continue the tradition, although her goal includes her peculiar penchant for food— majoring in chemistry and becoming a food chemist. her parents were a little puzzled at first, but it's a scientific career path that pays well, so they're supportive all the way nevertheless.

☾. despite arguing like brothers most of the time, mihile and eckhart will hang out to watch crime related documentaries together and analyze the procedures.
☾. mihile, eckhart, hawkeye and irena will play super smash bros on the "family" nintendo switch. oz, irena, neinheart and cygnus play animal crossing: horizons together, but neinheart insists that he be in charge of terraforming. neinheart also believes that tom nook is extorting them by overcharging for renovation services, knowing they can't refuse since nook is the only person in the area who can offer such a service.
☾. cygnus and neinheart will spend a few hours in the evening once a week to review the household's budget and discuss any maintenance needed or items to buy.
☾. cygnus and irena maintain the house's intricate garden with a lush and tastefully overgrown aesthetic in mind. hawkeye doesn't know much about keeping plants, but he's eager to offer a helping hand to the girls.

Hawkeye loved rain and storms. It reminded him of the ocean at night, with it's earthy scent, so much more serene and deep than during the day. Not to mention the powerful sky roars and sounds of downpour that produced a pleasant background noise to accompany his aimless thoughts. It was a certain comforting chaos to him.
You were all the more aware of how pitiful and small you must have seemed next to Hawkeye as you jumped out of your skin with every crash. Hawkeye himself was much like a storm in your eyes, steady, and confident in himself, unyielding to the forces of others. But, unlike oceans and storms, he was forgiving to the fearful, and very caring. Without hesitation, he had covered your little trembling form with his heavy cloak as soon as he wandered by, and sat beside you quietly. While your state was embarrassing, you found some comfort in his presence. It was more preferable than being trapped in the barracks with dozens of other knights who would watch and judge you.
Hawkeye hadn't spoken yet. Perhaps he was sparing you the humiliation of his concern, or maybe he just didn't know what to say to someone like you. Someone who was frightened of something that he reveled in. You took a chance to glance past the cloak at Hawkeye, and his expression told you everything there was to know. His head leaned back against the column you rested before, and his eyes were closed, savouring the rumbles of the storm, and the scent of petrichor. His thin lips widened into a faint smile as his fingers drummed against his shin to the rhythm of raindrops.
One of his eyes lazily opened, gazing right at you. You didn't look away that second— his starling gray eyes seemed to cast a spell on you for a moment, freezing you in place, but you managed to tear yourself away eventually. He sighed, content, as you stared forward, at Ereve's landscapes. A flash of lightning stretched it's gnarled fingers to a distant mountaintop, glowing with energy. Your gut wrenched as seconds passed, and your eyes squeezed shut in anticipation. A violent crash, like a gunshot, pierced the air, and you jolted, shrinking away.
A warm sensation on your knee caused you to jump again, but when you looked up, Hawkeye hovered over you with a kind smile and crinkled eyes. His thumb swiped against your knee before he let go, and offered his hand for you to take. You hesitated and contemplated, simply staring at his hand for several moments. You weren't sure if you were ready to move around just yet. But, with a sniffle, you grasped his hand and allowed yourself to be hoisted up.
"I can't bear to leave you alone feeling like this," Hawkeye said, opening his arms to you. You felt encouraged by his sentiments, always leaving it up to you, whether or not to accept his touch. And so, you walked into the embrace, putting your forehead against his chest. His arms wrapped around your shoulders, and his palms rubbed your back muscles, very gently as to not make you feel trapped in the hold. Your arms remained limp by your sides, but you melted against Hawkeye's body. "Do you want to stay with me tonight?"
You nodded, and mumbled a mm-hmm against Hawkeye's pinstripe shirt. His chin bobbed once at the top of your head, before he leaned back and extended an arm in the direction he wanted to move in. You looked up at him with doeish eyes, glassy from the crying sesh you had earlier, and obliged. You felt the light touch of his hand at the small of your back, encouraging you as he trailed beside.
When you had arrived at his room, you awkwardly stood beside the door, pulling the navy cloak closer to you as Hawkeye hastily straightened his bed for you. It wasn't done perfectly or neat at all, but when he was finished, he turned to you with a grin and patted the mattress. "It's not pretty," he said, "but it's comfortable, at least."
He slipped his cloak from your shoulders as you meagerly crawled onto the bed, shifting your body under the down-filled comforter. It was comfortable indeed, and warm and safe feeling while the thunder outside remained rampant.
"Water, or anything?" Hawkeye asked, tugging the covers higher over your shoulders. You shook your head and nestled your cheek deeper into the soft pillow. His hand moved without thought towards your other cheek, which made you reel back slightly out of surprise, and Hawkeye immediately stopped the motion. He frowned apologetically, and began to pull back, but you quickly lunged forward and pushed your cheek against the shape of his palm. It was his turn to be startled, but he tenderly smiled and stroked your face.
It was inevitable that he would move, but it still saddened you when he did. It had almost felt like his hand was meant to cradle your face. Still, you watched as he took an unused pillow from the bed and tossed it down, before settling on the floor and lying on it. He sprawled out and crossed his arms behind his head, and his expression reminded you of earlier, when he was lost in his appreciation of the thunder orchestra. It was almost too dark to see now, other than the bright lightning that would rush past the windows and illuminate the room for a moment. Anxiety still took hold of you, but you had become more comfortable than you thought possible— although, you could imagine how much safer you would feel if Hawkeye had settled next to you instead.
It was an awkward thing to ask, but what's the worst thing he could say besides no? You swallowed your embarrassment and rubbed your face against the cotton pillow. "...Hawkeye?" you said in a quiet voice.
"Hmm?"
"Will you stay next to me? Up here?"
Hawkeye blinked a few times, processing what you had meant. And that little, shaky voice— how could he say no? "Yeah, okay," he said, lifting himself off the floor. You watched as he tossed the pillow back beside you, and walked to the bedside. You wiggled your body to the side, making room for Hawkeye, and you noticed a silhouette of his arm reaching for something on his dresser. A heavy chime softly echoed as he took something from the dresser, and he sat down, swinging his legs onto the bed. You kept a fair distance, as respectable as possible despite the fact you were lying in bed with a commander. Not that you would protest if he decided to come closer.
Hawkeye had been racking his brain for something that would bring comfort to you. As much pity as he felt, he couldn't help but think you were just adorable. He had never felt such a strong urge to hold and protect someone, and to lay kisses on their skin and whisper comforting words in their ear. But, Hawkeye was a respectful man. He wouldn't cross that line until he's absolutely sure the other party was okay with it. So, as the only thing he could think to do besides the above, he grabbed a large shell that sat on top of his dresser. It was the remains of a nautilus in it's swirled glory.
"I found this shell on the beach in Lith Harbor," Hawkeye began, shifting closer to you. You watched the faint silhouette of the round shell being turned in his large hands, and found your head bowing closer to his shoulder. "I used to live there, you know. My family is still there, and they send me letters basically every week. When I first started out, I thought it was kind of annoying, but now I'm really grateful. I haven't had time to visit for more than a day in a couple years, and I really miss them."
As you continued listening to Hawkeye recount memories with his family and Lith Harbor, you found yourself drowning out the storm with his voice. Even though he was talking lowly, it was still a confident voice that demanded attention. Your body jolted and twitched less and less, and you grew ever more tired.
Hawkeye was satisfied with his work to distract you from your phobia. Your body had shifted close, almost against his, when you resituated yourself several times. The storm hadn't let up nearly at all, yet your body was still, if not a little stiffened. When he moved to his side, you were staring at him with your exhausted eyes, pleading for sleep to take you away. He smiled, and hesitantly brought his hand to your face. Like earlier, you leaned into it, and even squirmed closer to him. His eyes lit up with an idea, and he brought the opening of the shell against your ear. Your eyes curiously widened.
"Sounds like the ocean, doesn't it? When it's calm, of course." You nodded— the shell enveloped you in the sound of waves. "Close your eyes. You've been to Lith Harbor, right? Can you picture the beach there?" Of course. Surely everybody had ended up at Lith Harbor somehow or another. You allowed your eyes to flutter shut, and the storms seemed like a distant memory. What you pictured now, was the sandy shore of Lith Harbor, and the calm water that lapped at your toes. The sand was coarse, like little tiny crystals that stuck to your skin. How could you describe the sound of the ocean, though? Was it a quiet roar? Or, perhaps a pur. In your imagination, Hawkeye sat beside you, leaning on his hands and digging his feet into the warm sand. You stretched your arms above your head, before placing them behind you to lean on them as Hawkeye did. Your fingers dug between Hawkeye's, and you clasped your hand with his.
Hawkeye pulled the shell back, and reached to place it on his dresser again. Your chest heaved with each breath, and light sighs escaped your lips. While dreaming, your fingers had intertwined themselves with Hawkeye's. He quietly chuckled to himself while watching your lips curve into a faint smile, and he curled around your form, grasping your hand tighter. He spared one last loving gaze at your serene expression, admiring the way your mouth parted slightly and your hair messily framed your face, before letting the pitter patter of raindrops lull him to sleep.

Raised Blaze Wizard for Burning! Because I said I would make Blaze Wizard and Night Walker when the illustration for the Cygnus Knights got updated. That’s literally it.
I...didn’t actually take any screenshots of the Cygnus Knights storyline since this is the fourth time I’ve gone through it and I didn’t think I would be posting something like this. So instead you get, uh, these.
...Hey, did you know that the Cygnus Knight job advancement quests are supposed to feature your character’s respective Chief Knight based on their job—hence why the NPC name is Cygnus Chief Knight—but someone messed up somewhere and nobody bothered to fix it? As a result, Hawkeye shows up for all five Cygnus Knights, probably because Thunder Breaker was the first of the five to receive their revamp, so the quests default to him.

Neinheart rubbed his mitted hands against one another before sheltering his red-tinted nose with them; although his fingers still stung from the cold, the lower portion of his face would feel relief for now.
Hawkeye smiled softly and lowered his chin deeper into his scarf. He watched as Neinheart walked around the grand fir tree, examining the branches closely and occasionally running his hand along the needles, contemplating the amount of shed. Hawkeye couldn't help the toothy grin growing across his lips— he always found the tactician’s intent expression to be endearing.
“Hard to say,” Neinheart muttered under his breath, aiming his focus to an adjacent tree of similar build. He took several steps back and looked straight up, scrutinizing the posture of each tree. Every few seconds, another tiny snowflake would settle on the lens of his monocle.
Hawkeye craned his neck as well. Most people didn't realize, but he had an eye for perfection that seemed to be sharper than Neinheart’s.
Hawkeye first tilted his head one way, then the other, as snowflakes reflected in his round, gray eyes like stars. He eventually determined which tree held itself straightest at the top, and extended his hand.
“That one, don't ‘ya think?”
Neinheart shot him a startled glance before following his gesture. “Hmm… I believe so,” he replied in a pleasant tone. “Let's hurry along. I never managed to get used to this weather.”
Hawkeye nodded and hoisted a weathered, steel ax over his shoulder. As he began to chip away at the tree’s base, Neinheart retreated a distance away to huddle between the cart mimianas. Their earthy scent left much to be desired, but one seeking shelter from the biting breeze couldn't be picky. A mimiana swiveled its neck towards Neinheart, giving him a respectful sniff. He nonchalantly reached to touch its snout, holding his breath in anticipation of a friendly chuff, which expelled a cloud of mist into his face. He squinted his eyes for a moment and resumed watching Hawkeye.
Hawkeye’s forehead shone with sweat despite the temperature, and he was almost tempted to shed a layer or two. Before each swing was a sharp inhale to be lost in each movement. But with the lightning sprite’s blessing, his essentially superhuman strength made quick work of the massive trunk.
Neinheart blinked. Logically, he had no reason to be surprised at the short amount of time it would take for the towering tree to fall, but the strength of such a knight was an impressive feat to witness nevertheless.
“Watch yourself,” Hawkeye instinctively called out as the tree snapped and shivered, slowly leaning to the side. He placed a hand on his hip and watched as the fir brushed against its neighboring tree, crashing onto the lightly powdered ground with a heavy thud. The branches took several moments to settle from dragging across each other.
Neinheart stepped around the cart and clicked his tongue twice. The mimianas lurched forward with low groans, straining slightly before the cart gained momentum. While they approached, Hawkeye diligently maneuvered the tree's trunk over his arm, although he couldn't quite manage to lift it over his shoulder. Neinheart noted the limit of Hawkeye's strength as the chief knight’s face twisted somewhat from exertion while he tried to maintain a confident expression.
“We should have brought help like I had suggested,” Neinheart said, awkwardly taking place next to Hawkeye and grabbing hold of the tree. He could tell that he wasn't helping at all, but it made him feel better to do something instead of watching.
“Aye,” Hawkeye agreed breathlessly. “I should have listened. You never steer me wrong.”
“Although, it was kind of you to send them home for this year’s first snow. I realize it's a rare phenomena for many.”
As the pair dragged the fir, leaving a trail of needles, the mimianas turned the cart in a circle before stopping, allowing easy entry for what would be the garden’s Maplemas tree. With a strenuous hiss, Hawkeye lifted the base of the fir onto the edge of the cart and lifted himself up next to it, before pulling the length of the trunk as far back as he could. About a third of the tree hung off the cart, slightly dipping against the ground. Meanwhile, Neinheart fetched the few coils of rope stored on the mimiana’s harnesses.
“That'll do it,” Hawkeye chirped, breaths raspy and misty as Neinheart handed him the ropes. “I have it from here; go sit up front and try to keep warm ‘kay? I'll be there in a jiffy and we'll head back.”
Neinheart’s knees buckled somewhat as he violently shivered, although he remained in place as Hawkeye began tying the ropes to anchors on the floorboards, working to secure the tree.
“Thank you for accompanying me out here,” Neinheart said after a while, shifting his weight uncomfortably. “Although I'm fine with logistics, executing these types of things are… not my strong suit.”
Hawkeye glanced at Neinheart with a gentle expression. “Well, it makes me happy when you rely on me,” he replied while tying the final knot, his eyes crinkling somewhat as his smile widened. Neinheart looked away, praying the cold would keep the heat on his cheeks unnoticeable.
“Anyway,” Hawkeye continued as he patted a branch of the tree, “I'm all done here. Ready to go home? I think we ought to get you in front of a fire. I can make some tea for you, too.”
Neinheart chuckled as Hawkeye dropped to the ground beside him; they began walking to the perch. “Don't trouble yourself. I make my tea in a very specific way.”
Hawkeye grinned, his expression playful. “I know. I think you'd be surprised by how closely I pay attention when you make it.” In a swift movement, Hawkeye gripped Neinheart's hand, holding his thumb tightly against Neinheart's knuckles, steadying him as he climbed.
Although Neinheart's eyes widened in surprise at first, he offered Hawkeye a small smile after he settled on the perch seat. “I'm not helpless, you know.”
Hawkeye laughed and shuffled next to him. “You're one of the least helpless people I know. Remember? I just like it when you rely on me… hey, your face is so red! You should have brought something to cover it.”
Embarrassed, Neinheart quickly cupped his hands over his face and exhaled warm breaths. “Ah- well, yes— an oversight on my part, admittedly. You needn't worry, though.”
Hawkeye sighed and tugged at one end of his navy blue scarf until it fell from his neck. Turning to Neinheart, he threw the scarf over his neck and began to loop it around, adjusting the fabric to cover as much of his lower face as possible. Neinheart stared at Hawkeye’s focused expression, opting to allow this gesture without any complaints.
“There you go,” Hawkeye murmured, satisfied, before grabbing the reins and clicking his tongue to get the mimiana’s moving. The tip of the fir dragged against the ground softly, leaving a trail in the freshly fallen snow, which remained lightly sprinkling from the sky.
Wordlessly, Neinheart shifted closer against Hawkeye, seeking comfort in the warmth of his side. Hawkeye glanced at him from the corner of his eye before another smile crept onto his lips.
