Hazbinverse Salt: Stella
Okay I finally gathered my thoughts about why, as a swan aficionado, I dislike Stella's design so much. I'm also going to point out what I would change.
Too much going on while bland at the same time:
On first glance it looks good enough but the more I think abou the more I start to scream internally
So many feathers, face is cluttered, isn't very regal, even her arms (why not make the gloved full length?)
Dress is TERRIBAD
Honestly the design tries so hard it ends up boring
Except for feathers and color palette her design doesn't reflect her basis very well
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HER NECK IS TOO SHORT
Either make the dress solid with less feathers and keep the "hair"
Or you could keep the feather dress and make her hair shorter in length
Alternatively turn the hair into a bridal train to symbolize her purpose
Also if her (assumedly full-blood) brother is a peacock wouldn't it make more sense for her to be a peahen?
Eh I'd make her a mixed species; and also include peafowl feathers as part of the dress or an accessory
Long hair + big ass lashes + crown = cluttered face
Again I would shorten the hair length or style it differently
SHORTEN THOSE EYELASHES
Somebody pointed out that her lashes are so long they literally blend into to the background
Change the eyes back to pilot's blue to match Andre & pop out from all the pink&purple
Silhouette isn't very regal
For someone groomed to be royalty she doesn't look like it
HER NECK IS TOO SHORT WHERE'S THAT GRACEFUL S SHAPE SWANS ARE KNOWN FOR
Amp up the design to be Victorian/Edwardian inspired: that's when circuses really blew up in popularity; fits the circus theme of Hazbin
Some historical refs I found
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
See one of them even has feathers!
Instead of a gradient top make it a solid color and the top layer of skirt the same color; end with a gradient or keep it solid
Change the bottom layer to a lighter purple or pink
Lack of dark colors makes her evil less conspicuous
Probably stripes or a star pattern her name means star after all
Keep the short sleeves
The more evil Stella grows the darker her palette becomes; maybe more plums and maroons with hot pink
Cluttered Face AND hair = mess
See above
Again I'd keep the head hairless and change the eyes to short lashes and blue orbs
If Goetia shouldn't she have celestial motifs?
Have a star shaped crown or jewellery
Make her palette sunset themed
Since Stella means star have her wear solar themed clothing at times
at least SOME heat based power to contrast her brother's ice; since she is demonic royalty I guess she should have some magical power
Having a bit of power shows that she is more of a threat than given credit for; justifies why she's an equal match for Stolas
IT FITS HER PERSONALITY
Adds a sense of tragedy: her power never recognized for their potential due to outdated ideals of hell
Which in turn legitimizes Charlie's crusade; changing Hell for the better would prevent future situations like Stella
Tragically, Stella succumbs to her flaws instead of growing out of them; tragic, complex villain instead of a cartoon caricature for wittle ol' woobie owl to overcome
Aaaand that's about it. I might draw my dream look for Stella. I think as someone who's supposed to be a villain she should've had a way better design. The Pretty Pink Princess turns out to be a total witch. Cool concept, uncool execution.

Has anyone thought about how poorly Charlie's plan is because ignoring redemption even working, it doesn't seem like Charlie questions why the Sinners are in Hell and what got them there because it doesn't seem like Charlie addresses the vile actions the Sinners committed in their lives.
Seriously Angel was a gangster. If Viv actually gonna address the innocent people in Heaven who Angel killed? Is he even gonna apologize because repentance clearly isn't a requirement given what happened with Pentious.
Even if Angel does apologize, it's gonna be awkward because Charlie's plan legit relies on abusers and their victims living in the same area and Charlie doesn't really address the implications this has. Seriously a lot of people in Hell probably screwed over those in Heaven and it might be a bad idea to place people with their abusers in Heaven, especially on a mass scale without another plan to make the transition smoother because Charlie's plan amounts to sending them to Heaven and basically fucking off afterwards.

I’m gonna be talking a little more about this later but straight up—if someone tells you “this is an important piece of my culture that is a closed practice and is not open to everyone”, your response should never be “actually it’s totally fine for us to use whatever we want from your culture you can’t keep us from it”.
Like this is a hard-line issue for me, and I’m not sorry about it. I think it can be one thing if a member of the culture explicitly invited you into their culture, but just taking whatever you want from other cultures and religions, especially ones that are closed or are already demonized and misunderstood is really gross to me.
So. I am white. I am not a part of the culture that’s being misrepresented in this case. But I’ve seen a lot of black people speak up about this, and it’s infuriating that no one seems to be listening to them.
I’m bringing this up specifically because it’s been revealed that, despite having 4 years to rework the character, Alastor still uses “voodoo” and Hazbin is still using vevé for “the aesthetic”.
Critics and fans of Hazbin Hotel have been saying for. literal. years. that having Alastor use Voudou signs is disrespectful. But the creators and show runners are ignoring Black people’s criticisms of this choice and how it depicts Voudou.
It’s very discouraging to see that apparently no consideration for these critiques was given while the show was in development.
People have also tried to argue that it’s ok for Alastor to use Voudoo because of Dr. Facilier in Disney’s Princess and the Frog. Which is a ridiculous thing to argue because there were people criticizing that film for its portrayal of Voudou after it came out as well.
Also, sorry, I really don’t think a movie that was directed by two white men should be used as an authority on what parts of black culture white people can use however they like.
Like. That’s just. Eurgh.
All of this is so disrespectful on multiple levels.
Representation is important, but it can be positive or negative.
It can glorify or demonize. And it is BECAUSE of this that you NEED to think critically about if you should be the one to represent another culture or not.
If your attempt at “representing” another culture includes shouting down or ignoring the opinions and beliefs of the people from that culture, then you are doing harm and need to take a step back.
TLDR—Representation is important but if you are trying to represent a minority group you are not a part of, and you ignore their concerns and criticisms and don’t consult with them or do research? You’re unquestionably doing more harm than good.

The following shitpost is a parody of Will Wood’s infamous Wednesday rant, I made this for shits and giggles only (also tumblr seems to like it when I post abt Will and bitch (/j) abt these random ass indie animation series about hell) - HH/HB fans and HH/HB critics are both allowed to interact with this, as long as the fans are aware that Vivienne Medrano is a piece of shit and the critics and fans don’t get into arguments with eachother
Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss are not only the greatest betrayals in Indie Animation history but the most maddeningly trite, disturbingly vapid, and internally confused ideological train wrecks I've ever had the deeply sorrowful displeasure of allowing to pass through my corneas may god have mercy on all of us who are fated to live in a world where something so culturally, socially, politically, and artistically noxious as these Mary-sue-lead and Gary-stu-lead, transparently Tumblr-targeted, vaguely bigoted, backfired virtue-signaling, fake leftist capitalist "my immortal"-esque fanfics both earn second seasons through what can only be explained as manufactured consent. Something must be done about Vivziepop’s/Spindle Horse’s Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. These things are a condescending insult, especially to young people, the socially conscious, and members of marginalized and "'"outcast"'" groups (LiKe DeMoNs & ppL who dON’t wAnt To wAtCH tHEir CItiZens DIE EVERY YEARRRRR) who genuinely suffer from what these things hollowly masturbates to while looking us dead in the eyes and saying "yeah, you like that, don't you?" They are Gatling guns of random buzzwords and empty references to social issues, grotesquely and impotently disguised and screaming "I'm commentary!" before pissing its pants and squealing like a pig. I am shitting. I am pissing. I am standing over a warm bubble bath cradling a toaster and sobbing, chanting g-d's secret name and praying that there is indeed a hell so I can be eternally punished for having given this moral abomination one fraction of a fraction of a cent also they’re not good interpretations of hell anyway

Ok, so. It appears that if I'm gonna reimagine Fizzarolli, I'll have to do Asmodeus and Mammon as well.
Asmodeus might be difficult for me, as, once again, I'm very asexual, so I don't always know what's appealing or "sexy". Especially since it's different for everyone. But I'll try
Mammon, however, might be a bit easier. Y'all know I love clowns and Jesters, and Mammon being a jester is actually a good idea, as one of his many nicknames in different demonology texts is "the Lord of fools"
Jesters make a fool of others
Clowns make fools of themselves
I have some ideas for Mammon, I'll update on those soon, possibly tomorrow
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If any of you have suggestions for "lustful" outfits for Asmodeus, I'm all ears because I don't really know what to do. I just don't like his weird neon 4th of July outfit

I actually thought the next episode was the best one of the season. I liked that blitz finally fully apolgized for something hes done wrong, i liked that even though stolas was there he felt like an actual side character, and i liked that blitz had class conciousness(lol). Ialso kinda appriecated that they remebered some previous villians. I also appriecated fizzmodeus being a good rekationship but with as,odeus still having some condescendingness towards fizz (hopefully they’ll treat it as a flaw!) i also liked the blitzfizz moments and the fact fizz is surprisingly good disabled rep for a show where the main character said the r slur. Also the interesting character bit of striker finally working for a imp like he probably wants! I also like that hopefully blitz will get that asmodean crystal soon, and be free!
Stuff i didn’t like: the fact there’s literally no women in this episode, the fact they called striker a supremiscist just for him calling out blitz and fizz as class traitors, the total destruction of blitzstrike(sorry i caught a soft spot for it lol! And this episode convinced me even more viv REALLY REALLY hates most ships of blitz with anyone except soft uwu owlboi), the fact that theres no exploration of strikers thoughts and feeling about finally working for someone of the same class/species as him, the feeling i got that the writers probably wanted us to think fizz was right during the classism discussion(like, ‚oooh some rich people are good!’ Shut up fizz if your bf was a decent person he wouldnt own a factory. Lol)
I want to stress this last con especially, as it’s my most hated idea touted in the fandom and the show.
it also was especially gross how there was some implication that if stolas ‘truely loved blitz’ that stolases fetishization of both the lower class, blitz’s species, and blitz having different anatomy would all be ok. Thanks, viv: Being a classist chaser prick is totes fine! Just make sure to have romantic attraction about it!
Fuck off with that allo bullshit, man.

Hi again xx
It’s five in the morning and you know what that means! I’ve been thinking about things while trying to SLEEP grah! I wish Insomnia was a thing I could grab by the throat and strangle. Anyways..
Helluva Boss makes me angry for a whole lot of reasons. The top reason, though, is that I actually kind of liked the idea behind it.
Look, I’m a sucker for a good comedy. Demons who get paid to go to Earth and assassinate other demon’s enemies? Now that’s right up my alley—damn, that’s probably a plot I would’ve come up with for one of my stories/roleplays.
But, Helluva Boss completely lost the plot. It’s become this rancid, poorly told ‘love story’. The characters have personalities that switch from episode to episode (or no personalities at all), the main ‘love interests’ are horribly problematic for a plethora of reasons, not to mention—the main plot (demon assassins) has BARELY been utilized.
This show gets such high praise but all it is, is a mashup of raunchy sex jokes, incest and sa jokes/plotlines, trauma that never gets mentioned again, and cussing that doesn’t add anything.
And before ANYONE goes ‘oh you’re just sensitive’—I’m an avid watcher and fan of South Park and The Boys, two shows that have characters who cuss like a storm, have trauma mentioned, and have raunchy sex jokes. The thing is, they’re utilized right. They’re done right and well. They’re FUNNY.
South Park has brilliant comedic timing and The Boys knows how to keep the plot. Helluva Boss is just—there.
It’s sad because it could’ve been something really good! RIP to the former plot of Helluva Boss—forever in my heart as something that actually peaked my interest.
(Also save female characters from Vivziepop, she has NO clue how to write them!! Justice for the girls 💪🏽)

One criticism i do agree with when it comes to stella is she's really evil to make stolas seem more like a pathetic sad boi even tho it's all but stared her role is just to be a babymaker and he's a godlike being with more power than her and does kinda come off as the girly feminine lady being a one note bitch because female anger is so scary. That said i don't want her to be 5000% sympathetic but like, if the guys including Lucifer son of the mourning can be morally complex then stella should have some of that. Think of say Kycilia Zabi: still evil but not so cartoonishly compared to the guys, still allowed human qualities and such.

while discussing my reinterpretation of helluva boss’ premise with some friends, i realized how bizarre it is that so much of HH/HB’s hell has a lot more in common with the divine comedy’s purgatory than it is with hell, not just in presentation, but how sinners still indulge in sin ever after they’ve long died.
and i’ve yet to see anyone comment on it so i feel like im going mad
