Gifts and words of congratulations had been exchanged with laughter and joy as the day passed much too quickly, and yet as the first stars of the night began to twinkle in the sky, you found yourself swept away as Lust took your hands and twirled his way out of the room; you kept close as giggles erupted between you both.

He’d been an absolute delight throughout the whole day, greeting you with breakfast on the bed in the morning, a lunch at your favourite café at noon, a wonderful dinner picnic held atop the hill overlooking the ocean, and finally, a superior evening with friends where cakes of all types had been served. Truly, Lust had done his best to assure that this day had been the most wonderful for you yet, and you couldn’t see how it could become any better than this.

As you walked onto the balcony with him, you came eye to eye light with Cross, who stood nervously beneath the fairy lights. He’d been working to ensure the day had been perfect as well, though he’d preferred to stay in the background whilst Lust took the reins. However, now, when it was just you three, he regained some confidence as he relaxed his shoulders and allowed his eye lights to roam over your body.

“You look stunning,” he said, and although he might have mentioned it earlier today, it still made you blush.

“Thank you, Cross. You look quite handsome yourself,” you said, though laughed a little as Lust gave you a pouty but cute glance. “And so do you.”

Lust grinned as he pulled you further along, stopping only once the three of you were together. Cross brought your hand up to kiss your knuckles, and as he pulled you and Lust in for a warm embrace, he kissed the both of you softly, lovingly. And once it ended, Lust did the exact same thing, causing butterflies to form in your stomach as both of these silly skeletons didn’t spare any expense to shower you with love.

“Happy birthday, my love,” Lust said, giving your cheek an extra little kiss as he nuzzled in against Cross’s broad chest together with you once you all settled down onto the outdoor sofa.

“Happy birthday, my heart,” Cross added, kissing the top of your head before getting comfortable against the pillows cushioning his back.

Your throat felt tight as you laid with them both, comfortable and warm by their side as the day slowly came to an end. Their arms were around you and keeping you safe, and as your eyelids felt heavy with sleep, you finally allowed yourself a moment to relax and fall into a blissful sleep; knowing you’d wake up with either Cross or Lust carrying you inside and towards bed.

This is not weird omg no one ever asks me about dialovers you need to understand I was into VNs including otome before I was into any anime (including bsd) and diabolik lovers is my longest term obsession that isn't music 💜🙏 This is mostly going to involve things from the games (because the anime was basically silly fanservice that barely scratches the surface for anyone) but I'll leave out drama cd stuff because I would actually need to go refresh myself on those.

Anyone not familiar with the series who decides to continue pls be aware of these warnings and take care of yourself. Also pls understand everything I say is in terms of the series and setting. Absolutely nothing that happens in these games would make any of these characters redeemable irl. This is fiction and a trashfire Do-S fetish franchise. Trauma doesn't excuse abuse. I don't condone any of the bad behavior from this series irl. (Sorry since this isn't my sideblog I feel I need to explain this so ppl don't come at me thinking I'm excusing stuff for reals with this little analysis)

Also this is probably going to have spelling mistakes and horrific formatting because I wrote it on mobile so my bad on that too.

This was so hard to answer because so many of them have serious trauma, maladaptive coping mechanisms, and large amounts of growth throughout the various sequels. I think you could make the logical argument of depth for every single character. The Sakamaki triplets are def the most tragic of the first two games in this regard though (maybe only rivaled by the Tsukinami brothers once we get to Dark Fate because of the whole being the sole survivors of genocide thing)

But as a whole I think Carla and Shin deal with their predicaments in a more outwardly focused manner (which makes sense given their stories and roles as antagonists in their debut game) so I don't think I could objectively call them the deepest esp Carla even though he is my fave.

So out of the Sakamaki triplets I am going to go with Laito. Shocking I know because I have said before he is the one I am the most terrified of. But hear me out.

(I'm using HBD (haunted dark bridal) to refer to the first game, and MB (more blood) to refer to the second game going forward)

His first route in hdb is a stomach twisting mess of isolation, noncon, gaslighting and victim blaming. It is also the only route in that game where Yui tries to kill herself, which imo is really notable. Tbh the first time I played it I was so deeply uncomfortable I didn't really give his character a lot of thought. During replays and some of his drama cds though it def changed my perspective of him (in terms of the deepness of his character, not my dislike of him)

Here are my arguments in topical format because I don't really want to go through and do the research needed to refresh myself and make this chronological. Also if I am mistaken with anything I've paraphrased my bad it's because this isn't a real essay more of a rant that you might regret reading lol.

- Cordelia

We can't go into the rest of my arguments without the facts. He was groomed by his mother and experienced a childhood of CSA at her hands. And he is absolutely confused and suffering when he has his flashbacks. Yes he kills her with the other two triplets, but that didn't actually solve anything for him internally, and I think it is a pretty clear-cut argument that his negative traits and behaviors can be linked back to his unresolved trauma from this. He even says it himself too when he tries to project onto Yui and claim her hatred for him must be the same as his for Cordelia (though unnamed in his quote im pretty sure) that a hatred can run so deep that even killing the person won't relieve the burning. The other ironic part of this is that in the dialovers universe it is explained multiple times that the highest act of love for a vampire is murder. So. Every LI (Reiji, Laito, Ayato, Kanato) that committed matricide out of their hatred probably has some deeper more complex feelings going on than that. (You could also argue maybe a similar thing about Carla and patricide as well though he is Founder/First Blood not vampire. But he is more open about his reasoning and feelings around his parents and why he did what he did imo)

- His disdain of purity (plot twist. It's jealousy).

We repeatedly see him mock both Yui's purity and religiosity. He is arguably the worst out of all of the LIs when it comes to this topic, and hits this point right out the gate when he assaults her in the abandoned church. It is simultaneously a logical and also weird choice on his part to continue on with when you realize how unwavering her faith actually is, and if you do other routes before this one you are already coming in realizing no matter how much she "breaks", "changes", or "gives in" in other ways, she never actually abandons her faith completely even in future games when she is living quite literally in the demon world. Even in routes where she becomes a vampire she doesn't eschew God. However it is canon that she is a devout Catholic and that she originally wanted to be a nun (before the events of the game screw that up for her), so it is still relevant.

While it may have started as a way to try and break her down, it really becomes more and more clear through his routes that like a bunch of his other behaviors, he is projecting his own struggles onto Yui.

He is jealous of her purity, so he attacks it. He is jealous of her faith, so he attacks it. He is jealous of her unwavering belief in goodness and in humanity, so he just. keeps. attacking. it. Because seeing it exist in front of him hurts, but especially early on he isn't aware of his own emotions or why he acts the way he does. So many things in his routes and his monologues highlight the fact that Laito views himself as permanently dirtied by his past, and this behavior is tied to that.

- His inability to identify his feelings from his fake front and his use of sex to maladaptively deal with his trauma.

** I wrote way too much on this and decide nvm I think even if someone has only seen the anime his hypersexuality probably speaks for itself. Plus this is getting so long 😔**

-His lack of control in MB and "forced" behavior. His confusion over his own tears near the end of HDB.

There are various instances (esp in MB where his characterization is wildly different and desperate compared to HDB) where we see his mask start to crack, or realize that his mask wasn't actually very good to begin with and the exhaustion from the continous abuse in his routes has caused both Yui (and us as the reader) to fall for his bullshit more easily. He plays the part of a pervert, but Shu (who arguably is a massive pervert) calls him out in MB for being a phony. His behavior in MB makes him come across as desperate and out of control, as opposed to his calculated sadism in HDB. This all comes back to his inner turmoil, unresolved feelings, and trauma and we slowly unpeal those layers through the rest of the series.

I think at baseline it is really easy to dismiss Laito. I did from the beginning too. Plus he never stops calling Yui Bitch-chan no matter how many sequels he gets 🤦‍♂️ But that is just falling for his fake front, exactly what he wants you to do because then he can just keep carrying on without dealing with his bs and let off steam temporarily in the process. But under the surface there is a lot more going on. And he definitely is a character that has an insane amount of depth.

Sorry for the multi part novel. I don't even like him as an LI even in this series. But for a series with so many inconsistencies, retcons across games, and questionable writing choices, they did a good job with his character. I just need him to stay far away from both me and Yui 🥲 Imagine if you had asked me something that prompted me to talk about my faves 💀💀💀

Out of all the (so like the Sakamakis, Mukamis, Tsukinamis, and Kino) guys in Diabolik Lovers, who would you say is the LEAST abusive towards Yui or the mosts kind towards Yui? I would say Shin but maybe I'm just biased LOL since he's my favorite character.

Eh... this is one of those questions where there really isn't a good answer.

I was going to say it's definitely not Shin but then I remembered all of the other stuff some of the other characters do and was like hmmm...

What I will say is that Shin probably isn't the worst offender in his own DF route, he's still definitely not nice but some of the HDB routes are worse in my eyes, however if we look at DF in a wider context then err... It's pretty damning for him. In Carla's Manservant ending, he murders Yui and Carla, and that's without going into what he does in Ruki's DF route. In fact if we look at all routes, I’d actually say Kino comes off as better than Shin in terms of behaviour towards Yui in other characters’ routes (even if he does put the other diaboys through a lot).

I think if I had to pick the kindest DL character across all routes, I'd have to go with Azusa with maybe Subaru coming second. Across the routes I've played (please bare in mind I have not played every route), Azusa is the character who most consistently helps Yui in routes that aren't his own. That being said I haven't played Azusa's More Blood route so I can’t say how he fares in his original route. I’m also not especially good on Subaru’s HDB or MB routes (because I read summaries of them about 6 years ago and haven’t revisited them since), but he’s pretty decent in his DF and LE routes, so certainly as far as the later games go, he’s definitely a contender (and he’s usually pretty good in other characters’ routes too).

At the end of the day, the problem with trying to answer something like this that to some degree it’s subjective. 

Like for example, Shuu’s route is often touted as one of the most tame HBD routes, while generally Laito’s is viewed as the worst (at least so far as I’ve seen), however for me personally, nothing in Laito’s route made me feel as uncomfortable as the scene in Shuu’s route just before he and Yui have their first time together. I’m not saying that what Laito does to Yui in his route isn’t awful, because it is, but I definitely found something about that scene with Shuu far more insidious, I think because it was a lot more subtle than any of the shit Laito pulls (honestly it’s been a while since I played it but I definitely remember feeling pretty uneasy).

I personally would not say Shin is necessarily the kindest, and this is as someone who adores him, but I can definitely see why he might seem that way, particularly if you’re looking at him through the favouritism lens.

For one, while Shin does have the unfortunate trait of tending to underestimate his opponents in a physical fight, personality-wise, I’d actually argue that he’s one of the most self-aware of the boys. If you look at his messages in the popularity polls, they’re often something along the lines of “You’re choosing me even after such terrible things were done to you? What an idiot.” or “You know what you’re letting yourself in for by choosing me right?” (these are not the exact quotes but it’s something similar) and in his Para-Selene CD, he even straight up says something like “you understand by now don’t you, that I’m by no means kind”.

Shin is fully aware that he’s a bit rough around the edges personality wise, and I think the fact he at least recognises this (and pretty much right off the bat too) makes him seem less awful than some of the other guys. Additionally, if you look at his behaviour in DF, he honestly doesn’t really change that much once he forms an attachment to Yui, he still pranks and teases her, it just has less of a bite to it, so there’s much less of a stark difference between before and after versus characters like Reiji or Kou.

Anyway if we’re not careful I’m just going to start writing an essay on Shin (again) so I’ll leave it here for now.

TL;DR  I personally would say Azusa or Subaru are probably kindest to Yui overall, and although I won’t say he’s kind, I would definitely say Kino’s LE route is pretty watered down compared to the other’s introductory routes, so I’d actually put him up as a contender for least abusive too.

My biggest problem with Ayato is his stans. 😭

I don't mind if his stans want to make a thousand posts a day about how much they love him, but what does bother me is that they always try to throw in his face that he "is the only canonical/true route". I even read that "the real Yui" is only the Yui that appears in Ayato's routes. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I swear, his stans are so annoying. Yui is the "real Yui" in all the damn routes, NOT just Ayato's. All routes are equally canon because at the end of the day it's us fans who decide who we prefer to see Yui/MC with. In any case, Yui/MC loves all the guys in her harem in equal measure, there is nothing she has done or said for Ayato that she hasn't done or said for the other Diaboys. And in fact, she has died more times protecting Yuma than Ayato, (that's never mentioned by Ayato's stans, why is that?)

Something I can't stand either is that they say that Ayato's Dark Fate route "is the best route of all the games", literally in Dark Fate you have routes like Carla and Shin's, who are new characters and yet have better development and a much more interesting background than Ayato could have had in four games.

Same anon, same. (Wow… the statement about Yui 💀. The idolism got to that point? Come on 😅. And i thought the level of entitlement couldn’t surpass the “Ayato is the main character”.)

Though my problem with them is

1, They think they have the priviledge. To whitewash (idk how this word works yet, like is it only apply to skin color? Or does it mean “bleaching one’s wrong doing” too? I’m going with the 2nd one) their oshi; for example, “Ayato has never engaged in harmful coping mechanism and never project it on others.” In Bold. That’s blatant lie. Check out Sakamaki Saga for more detail plus his LE route too! I don’t remember much about HBD MB and DF but i think there are some. Mainly in the first two games.

While they reacted like sodium meeting water whenever the other boys did an equal bad thing. Some even make up tell tales about them. Way to go.

To say “not a positive opinion” about other boys, but non-Ayato fans can’t. “Ik everyone has their opinions but why don’t keep them to yourself if they’re not positive ones??? Don’t wonder why Ayato stans reacted that way because everyone would defend their fav Diaboy. Acting like he isn’t the Sakamaki most prone to put his life on the line for others pfft. Girl, you will obviously get such negative”reactions if you start drama. You claim you don’t want to but you did start it already because you spread hatred in this fandom with your “opinions”.

Lady and gentlemen, look at that mindset. These priviledged people allow themselves to shove fake facts into other people’s face. They be dissing your fav boys everyday and people applause them for that. Then when you raise your hand to voice out your not-a-one-way-tunnel thoughts, they brand it as “negative”. Why negative? Oh. Cuz you don’t support Ayato and put him on an altar; instead, you tell them that “Ayato’s at fault too”. That means you hate him right? You want to discredit him, right? You want to start drama, right?

2. Some of them just love to assume. Pulling things out of no where. If you have time do take a look at the previous asks on my blog. Oh my. If you say smth on the level of “perceiving” they’ll think that you’re “complaining” and attack you. And this one will be the complement for

3. They prone to put things in boxes. Because they don’t understand perceptions and perspectives, plus, they’re so used to reacting, they won’t be able to see that you’re only giving an opinion that could be the complement for their opinion to create a complete picture. They’ll think that you’re reacting. That you’re attacking them, their oshi, anything of such. So they attack you.

4. They value fairness, but only if Ayato’s in the picture. For all the rest… nope.

Prove is what you just said anon. “Ayato’s the real route”, “Yui’s the real Yui in Ayato’s route”, ect. I don’t have to say more than that.

(Oh your last statement. 🤔 True true some characters “have better development and a much more interesting background” plus mindset; AND, by “interesting” i don’t mean that i’m encouraging their twisted behaviours and wrong doings. Just that they would be fascinating subjects to do research on. This note is for the Ayato’s fan who haven’t been able to see things seperately yet so that they don’t jump onto me and attack me for things i never said. 👌

"mas, ke depan o mall malioboro, tak susul ambek temenku", jare april lewat telepon. yooo... emang wis janjian ketemu ndek jogja pisan se, sebenere ambek april ambek popo. cuma popo lagi ndek banjar durung balik jogja dadi gak sido ketemu.

setelah dipungut april ndek ngarep mall, diajak ndek teras malioboro dikenalne ambek koncone medan pisan, mb dini. akeh ngobrol mulai awan sampe sore, mereka, mereka ngobrol logat ambek bahasa medan, aku bagian tenguk2 ambek misuh "oh, cok iu" ndek april ketika dee ngomong ngene, "lek jogja maenmu ke malioboro podo ambek malang maenmu ke jodipan ilo, jamet".
