Zeti Culture & Race Headcanons

*The following hcs are for my Zeti Rehab!AU.*

Biology: The source of a Zeti's electromagnetic manipulation stems from a set of nerves in their temples. Zeti also have heightened senses. They can smell hybridization in creatures through their blood, such as when Zavok sniffs out Shadow's Black Arms DNA. Their enhanced hearing is quite sensitive to extreme-pitch frequencies like a dog, which explains how Amy is able to qualm the Deadly Six with a dog whistle (the whistle is slightly more tolerable than the Copa Conch).

Color Clans: In ancient times, Zeti clans were restricted to praticing the roles of their assigned subclass. In more recent centuries, however, these rules became more lax. ⦁ Zaka (Red); The fiercest of all Zeti Clans. During their time on Earth, they were mistaken for dragons. ⦁ Zomoiro (Pink): Revered for their healing arts, Zomorio play supportive roles in Zeti society, such as imp-care and medicine. Although rare, Zomorio can become susceptable to the Lunacy Virus, where a Pink Zeti becomes feral. ⦁ Zao (Blue): Considered the 'magicians' of the Zeti clans, Zao clan members possess abilities not common in other Zeti (e.g. Zik's fruit summoning) ⦁ Zidori (Green): The strategists and mechanical geniuses of the Zeti. ⦁ Ziiro (Yellow): The sturdiest of the Zeti, Ziiro are reserved as tanks on the front line. ⦁ Zurasaki (Purple): The second rarest clan, Purple Zeti are trained in stealth and infiltration. ⦁ Zuro & Zhiro (Black & White): An extremely rare subclass of Zeti reserved only for royal bloodlines. Although Zeti can breed with others outside their clan, relations between Zuro and Zhiro are strictly prohibited, as an ancient prophecy claims that the child of such a pairing with result in the destruction of their world. Relations With Other Aliens: Zeti are normally distrustful of other races unless a member of that species can defeat them in combat. They have the most confliction with the Black Arms race. The Deadly Six, as well as most of their race, were enslaved and tortured by Black Doom.

Age: Zeti children, called Imps, start their training at age 30. When they reach adolence at age 80, where they go through a coming-of-age ritual. This ritual involves the Imp leaving their family behind to join a guild and become disciplies of a master/sensei.

Evil or Not?: As Zik himself says, Zeti are not 'evil' in a broad term, but rather they seek 'perfection', which sometimes results in choices that seem immorale to other races.

Love of Performing Arts: Zeti believe that to achieve perfection, they must train their minds as well as their bodies. That is why many of them partake in recreational hobbies (Master Zik with gardening, Zeena with tech, Zomom with cooking) between bouts of training.

Mating & Sexuality: In courtship, a suitor must bite their potential mate to mark them. Their mate then has one full moon cycle to bite them back or else it is considered rejection. During this time, the 'fanger/alpha' becomes extremely protective of the 'fangee/omega' to assure they are not marked by another Zeti. Although there are exceptions, such as the 'alpha' sharing their 'omega' with a 'fangette/beta', though this method is only reserved for the strongest of warriors such as chiefs or sensei. ⦁ It is not uncommon for many Zeti to choose mates who are the same gender as themselves. At first this choice was used strictly for maintaining birthrate control to avoid overpopulation, but eventually same-gender Zeti mates became more commonplace in their society. ⦁ The gestation period of Zeti is 10 months, slightly longer than Mobians. During their pregnacy, a female can become so savage that they make males look completely submissive. ⦁ Once every three months, Zeti on their home planet experience a Blood Moon cycle. This cycle shows a lunar eclipse every night for the entire month, as opposed to Mobius' one night every several years. During this time, certain Zeti undergo a transformation that reverses their gender. This time is the only time that normally-same-sex couples can procreate children. The pregnacy lasts until the next three month cycle. If a same-sex Zeti couple wants to have a child but are not on Zoni, they must take Saugine Tablets, which simulate the effects of the blood moon. ⦁ If the omega is bitten by someone other than their alpha, the alpha has a right to challenge them to a fight to the death. ⦁ Spike Collars on omegas are seen as a sort of wedding ring - not to be confused with spiked cuffs, which are giving to the strongest warrior of the clan. In general, spiked armorments are a sign of total commitment for Zeti. ⦁ Due to their longevity, the norm for age-appropriate dating is between 100-200 years. For example, a 200-year-old Zeti can date someone between 100 to 300 years-old. Beyond that range, things tend to get…taboo.

Holidays, Events and Phenomenons: Once every 10 years, a blue harvest moon takes place on Zeti's native planet. This strange phenomenon causes a complete reversal in personality. This effect not only affects Zeti, but every other creature resigning on the planet. This is considered the most vulnerable period for Zeti, as they become meek and unable to fight at this time. Luckily, the moon is only around for 4 hours. ⦁ Honor: Despite their ruthlessness, Zeti have a high code of honor. They never attack opponents that are weaker than themselves, never use 'cheap tactics', and don't go looking for a fight for no reason. ⦁ The Deadly Six did not follow these code is for several reasons: (1) In the past they were tortured by the Black Arms and suffered mentally, (2) They had absorbed more power from Eggman's Extractor than their bodies could handle. When a Zeti loses their balance of mental strength and physical strength, they become much more malevolent in nature than usual, sort of like a hormone imbalance.

Word of advice: NEVER betray a Zeti. When dishonored by an enemy, Zeti enter a trance known as 'Shingazi', which loosely translates into 'eternal grudge' or 'marked for revenge'. An unhealthy mental state makes Zeti more susceptible to this stage.

Rainbow Lotus High Council: Basically the closest thing to a government in Zeti society. They consist of the most 'perfect' women of each color clan. These powerful ladies control the law, politics, and economy of Zoni.

Deities: Zzelene - Goddess of the moon, war, storms, and Mother to All Zeti. Zzelene shares an odd resemblence to Amy Rose. Helian - God of the sun, strategy, nature, and Father to All Seedrians. Helios shares an odd resemblance to Blaze ⦁ In the aftermath of the Origin War, Zzelene's and Helian's wounds were too severe. With their dying breaths, Helian casted his right eye into the sun while Zzelene casted her left eye into the moon, so they could always watch their homes. From their spilled rainbow-colored blood, a new generation of Zeti and Seedrians were born (Zzelene for the Zeti and Helian for the Seedrians). ⦁ Zukuyomi AKA Nightfallens: The first generation of Zeti; only black and white colorations

Sooo I have had this personal Sonic headcanon for a while and I thought I would run it by the lot of ya. It actually pertains to some pieces you’ll be seeing go up pretty soon, as well as my AU as a whole.

HC: Every Mobian from the moment they are born to about 12 years of age has black / really dark grey eyes. By the time they are 13, they gain pigment in their eyes and that is their eye color from that moment on.

This was my way of explaining why Classic Sonic, Tails, Knux, Amy, and others have black eyes in the classic games up until the Adventure games.

[I know Classic Sonic is technically older by SEGA’s confusing age canon for the blue blur, but in my AU, I have HC’d the Classic Era as being his younger childhood. (So he was about 10-13ish, in the AU)

Tho can I really say Classic Era being Sonic’s early childhood is a headcanon when most of us Sonic fans have just considered it canon for the longest time? I dunno, but I am just clearing some things up so take it as you will lol]

speaking of my weird lil hcs i have this au i rotate in my brain every so often abt the main mobians living in earth (sorta movie verse ish) and i hc they all watch a lot of anime and ive thought about this HARD so im gonna share my thoughts

sonic, silver, and knuckles are avid fans of stuff with powerscaling (dbz, naruto, one piece) and have long debates on who can beat who. knuckles has a very passionate defense for broly in literally every dbz convo and silver keeps reminding him hes Technically not canon (it does not stop knux). sonic also likes initial d for obvious reasons

amy and blaze are shojou/romance lovers and watch stuff like sailor moon or fruits basket. they talk about their little otps and crushes. they probably use those mspaint anime bases and like sharing art of their humansonas with each other.

tails charmy and marine all like more "kiddie" anime like pokemon, but tails particularly likes digimon cos of the tech themes. he also sometimes watches dbz with sonic. cream meanwhile likes magical girl stuff and will watch sailor moon with amy and blaze but also likes precure.

espio will join in the naruto enthusiasm with sonic, silv, and knux, but he also likes demon slayer. he wants to cosplay as tanjiro and vector helps him cos he thinks its adorable. blaze and silver join as nezuko and tokito.

speaking of vector- hes more into the claasics, so to speak. he swears by cowboy bebop.

lastly, rouge shadow and omega are more the "goths" of the group so they take more to serious shows like death note, tokyo ghoul, hellsing, or evangelion.

1. a fun headcanon

Like he does in the Archie comics, he knows how to play the guitar! Surprisingly enough, he tends to play the acoustic guitar, but he also plays the electric guitar. He rarely plays, but if he's not adventuring, napping or reading books under tree he'll be playing guitar.

He also plays Minecraft! That tends to be something that ends up being important to some of my AUs somehow XD

6. a headcanon about their family

Funny thing, this guy just... showed up. On Christmas Island. Most of the official guides say he was just. There. One day.

My hc is that no one knows where he came from, and he doesn't either. The people he knows says that he just showed up one day claiming he was born there, meaning he very much could have come from anywhere. He was supposedly raised by the island animals and only learnt about other mobians after meeting Tails and humans after meeting Robotnik. He may be of alien descent, which would explain his appearance on many of the ancient murals on Angel Island, and was here in order to save the earth, which is why he has such a close link to Chaos Energy.

I have a lot to say about this guy's "origins", but in short he has no idea where he came from.

Actually, I kind of have two headcanons for his origin? Another is that Sonic Underground happened and he was the prince of a kingdom but chose to leave the throne to his siblings and went to explore the world. Which is how he supposedly "appeared on Christmas Island".

7. a pre-canon headcanon

I like to think that he was mute due to his lack of contact with other mobians, he was mute for a very long time and only made small sounds. He eventually learnt to talk and express himself, but had learnt sign language at one point. Around Sonic CD he started speaking.

10. I recognize canon has made a decision, but given that it's a stupid-ass decision, I've elected to ignore it (+ what should have happened)

Ok, so I gave myself like 2 weeks to think about this (Sorry for the long wait on this ask!) and I cannot for the life of me remember what it is about canon Sonic that rubs me the wrong way! I know there's something that happened that I refuse to believe happened, but I can't remember it whatsoever! Maybe one day I will. (I think it was something he did that went against his character in one of the games? I can't remember)

14. their worst memory

Not many memories stick with him since he's a live-in-the-moment kind of person. However, he sometimes beats himself up about being unable to save certain people in the past, or being stuck in jail while the whole world went downhill in Forces. One of his worst memories would be when Shadow sacrificed himself, so when Shadow told everyone in the Twitter Takeover that one of his fondest memories was of Sonic reaching his hand to him, during that moment Sonic saw it all in a new light and it touched him.

Allegedly it's "werepuppies au", but I can't get anything to come up when I search it. 😭

And I don't think I ever tagged the Mobian mating ritual stuff, so that's on me, so allow me to give you a TL;DR:

-Mobians borrow the habits from their IRL species when trying to attract a mate/partner. (I don't think I've ever posted this one, but I hc in their world that "mate" is a word that is basically synonymous with "partner", "boyfriend", "girlfriend", "significant other", etc. EXCEPT it might stick around after marriage and be intended to be synonymous with "spouse" "husband" "wife" etc. at that point.)

-Hedgehogs will walk in circles around their mates. I think they headbutt them too, but I could be remembering that wrong.

-Polar bears will follow their potential mates around and wait to be chosen as their mate. I never posted these two either, but once successfully paired they'll wander aimlessly together. They'll also touch their heads to the other's neck/chest as a sign of trust.

-Beetles anoint themselves with smells, and will hold and stroke each other.

- none of the mobians can appear normaly on film or photos, they're always very blurry so they're like cryptids

- sticks can never stay indoors she always finds a way to get outside much to chris's dismay

- helen is still very much the same but slightly more unhinged, paired with a "no regard for safety whatsover" sonic they cause chaos together

- sometimes team sonic will dare eachother the most riduculous dares to do in public just to see if they can, this has ended up in multiple police chases and chris being stressed as fuck

- sticks replaces cream in this au so she gets stuck on a billboard screaming, but when she gets taken into area 51 she gets an actual panic attack that sonic manages to get her out of

- team dark is there, im working on their backstories but they basically just steal and cause problems

Its late, but imma post some basic hcs for my main Sonic au (which is a general combination between various continuities)

- Mobius is not a planet, but a location on Earth. It’s where Mobians primarily reside, and is known for it’s unique geography and famous islands

- Some humans live in Mobius, and some Mobians live in human territory

- Most of Mobius is rural, with lots of villages and towns sprinkled in. Cities aren’t that abundant in numbers, and are usually populated by those of higher social status

- Technology is much more advanced than it is in real life. For example the entirety of Shadow’s creation being probable in the 50s

- Mobians are neither human nor animal, they just exhibit traits similar to both species

- Mobians mentally age faster, usually going independent at 12, and are taught by caretakers instead of going to schools

- The many gods we’ve seen throughout the series were responsible for the universe’s creation. While they were initially close bonded, conflicts eventually rose and they split off

- Gods that are Mobians also exist, some of which still linger around to this day. Many worship them, giving them offerings and asking for words of advice in dedicated shrines

- Chaos was the creator of The Three Emeralds. They merged their energy with various gemstones as a means of protecting Earth, and as a result, created Angel Island as well

- The Three Emeralds are as followed: Chaos Emeralds, Entropy Emeralds, and the Master Emerald

- Entropy Emeralds consist of colors for the Chaos Emeralds that were never used again, in terms of games/media

- Chaos energy is not something everyone has. It’s a specific link to the Emeralds that is extremely rare, and is thought to be a gift from the Mobian Gods (who, for decades, were mistaken for being the emeralds’ creator)

- Early exposure to said energy, however, has been recently discovered to have a factor into developing chaos energy. Which has led into even more people wanting their hands on them

- The Chaos Emeralds, specifically speaking, are tied to one’s emotions. They may grant you power, but the form that they give you depends on what one is feeling

- The Super Emeralds are powered up versions of the Chaos and Entropy Emeralds, bestowed by the Master Emerald

- Hyper energy is exclusive to the Super Emeralds, and strangely enough, seems to be more common for those to have a connection to, even without exposure

- If one uses chaos or hyper energy way too often, then they begin to develop a fleetway form. This causes the user to get overtaken by the energy itself, thus causing a lack of control of their thoughts and instead want nothing but to spread mayhem

hc + chaos emeralds

Shadow has control over chaos energy without being in the presence of an Emerald; I usually don’t write Shadow as being anywhere in proximity to any of the Emeralds since I generally opt to treat them as like...weird capricious gemstones that have the power to completely annihilate the world if in the same area for too long (why they always have to be scattered after they get collected). But Shadow’s powers grow increasingly more strong the more Emeralds he has on him. While I’ve mentioned that my Shadow cannot go Super unless he has someone else’s energy to feed off of, Shadow with all 7 Emeralds is still not a force to be reckoned with, and really isn’t THAT MUCH WEAKER than his Super form. Shadow with all 7 Emeralds has certain abilities that include minor reality warping and time hopping. But, as I’ve also mentioned, because the energy is constantly funneling through his body, sometimes it can cause him to act erratically as it essentially causes him to short-circuit and can be DANGEROUS in the long-term. This would be a really interesting AU to develop further and I’m piquing my own interest.

promises

Shadow has a pretty child-like view of promises. He believes that without fail promises should never, ever, under any circumstances ever, be broken, and he would rather die than actively break one. He’s like this because pretty early on in his creation, Maria made him a promise “about being able to come play with me after they run a few more tests on you!” while he was still in his Mewtwo-tube (lol) and then obviously that came true, so….yeah. Promises are sacred to Shadow. He also feels incredible guilt over the promise he keeps to Maria and feels like he isn’t really living up to it, so he doesn’t make them anymore. Not even childish “promise I’ll be there at 5’o clock” comments. Nothing.

trust

Shadow is naturally not a trusting individual, but he understands now that this is one of his biggest shortcomings and he’s WORKING ON IT. After spending time with Team Dark and seeing the benefits of having people close to you, Shadow knows that trust gets you farther in the long run, so...he’s trying. There are also people Shadow trusts without necessarily liking; he trusts Sonic  to have his back, but I generally opt for a level of disdain on Shadow’s part. Which I think I’ll make a post about WHY I default to Shadow being a little bit meaner to Sonic at first...lol. More on that soon!

extreme gear !!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Shadow wasn’t there for the events of Riders or Zero Gravity. HOWEVER Shadow DOES have an Extreme Gear! I had this thread with a Wave (@babylonbrains) like...early on in the blog where Shadow went to visit Wave’s shop and got a Fly-type Gear made for a G.U.N. mission. Just like while Shadow has his motorcycle (which isn’t very practical given he can Run Fast), the Gear serves a bit more purpose since it’s a Fly-type. He usually uses it for Stealth missions. There isn’t a lot more to say on it but he likes it a lot. It’s a matte black with some red decal work on it.

G.U.N.

Shadow’s feelings about G.U.N. are incredibly complicated. He hates them but is essentially tied to them--the best way to keep his promise to Maria is to work with a non-partisan entity that has massive wealth of information on EVERYTHING on the planet, right? So that’s what he does despite the massive amounts of corruption. At present he and @the-owlchemist​ ‘s Noctus are discussing laying down the foundation to weed out the corruption and make it into a better place in the future -- which ties into the future for my Shadow, where he eventually feels more proud of G.U.N. before retiring and becoming Mobian-John Wick agagdfksdf

cloning

Shadow is kind of ambivalent about the Shadow Androids at this point. I haven’t written him coming into contact with any of them but now that he’s pretty set on knowing who he is and his past, I would really love to see how that goes. I think he’d feel bad, knowing that this robot has his identity and his facade but knows that it ISN’T HIM…….what kinda toll would that take??? Y’know? He doesn’t think about it but I’d be interested to see what happened. It’d also be a reminder that he’s semi-replicable. Ouchie.

books/reading

Shadow is a very fast reader but he doesn’t really read for pleasure. He generally only reads what he has to -- mission files, briefings, etc. etc.. The stuff he DOES read for pleasure is generally books on Chaos theory. Shadow is more intent on reading non-fiction things he knows he can implement. He’s good about taking what he reads and applying it to his life.

flowers

Shadow can appreciate a Good Aesthetic but he isn’t like that into flowers or anything. That said, he takes gifts very seriously! Cream gave him a tiny succulent that he keeps on his windowsill and is very obsessive about. He’s got other plants like that in his apartment.

solitude

Shadow generally opts to be alone when he can. He’s just kinda wired that way. He’s a very solitary person who prefers to focus on himself and can be quite introspective. Shadow doesn’t get moments like this much anymore unless he’s sent on solo missions, and being an introvert, he is VERY happy when he gets a moment alone nowadays.

fears

Without a doubt, Shadow’s biggest fear is letting down Maria. He is also afraid of losing his memories again and being made into someone else’s weapon. But that aside, Shadow doesn’t have any smaller, weirder phobias. He’s a very composed individual.

Shadow is that breed of competitive where he doesn’t even fucking bother with 99% of the people who egg him on because he just KNOWS he’s better than them and it just feels like a waste of time to prove to everyone that, yeah, I’m better than you. But when you put Shadow up with someone that CAN hold their own against him? Shadow will fight tooth and nail to beat them and that’s where the banter and the cocky comments and attitude come in. Look at SA2! Shadow clearly has his goal in mind but he also goes very much out of his way to piss Sonic off and remind him “hey, you’ve got competition!” but when it comes to Tails and Knuckles, he doesn’t even give them the TIME OF DAY. That’s the sort of person Shadow is.
