trying to get back into the game???

i've been really obsessed with playing again lately, but since i couldn't cause i wasn't home for weeks, i've been adding to my pinterest boards and writing and really thinking about what and how i wanted to do it (idk why i always need to be super organized and give myself rules to literally play with pixels)

------how do i want to play???

i want to really play the game, have fun again. but i'm also always super invested in my sims storylines because i can't enjoy playing if i don't thread a little story, even if it's just for myself. so i've decided to lean towards story-driven gameplays (i.e: i have a slight idea of the direction i want my characters lives to go in, but i'm letting myself play as i like and the story can and will be affected by gameplay)

i've been super into interactive narrative games lately, and i wanna try replicating this in the sims (i.e: if this happens then i can allow that to happen, but if that happens then i can't do this, etc. etc. blabla)

+ i don't want to stick to ONE gameplay. i know i tend to get messy and start 10000 saves, but i get bored so fast and there's never one week in which i only want to play in one save. i need some variety, and it leads us to:

i'd like to give dystopia/post-apocalypse another go, cause i had so much fun the first time i did it and am really into these kind of graphic novels—so GUNG HO save reboot! this time: way more story-driven & more of a caricatural cartoony style with comic-like editing. already started writing some of the plot & characters and looking for aesthetic references. the title will probably change but for now i'm calling it like that in my head lol. (ps: above is the cover of the actual comic that first inspired me for this save—below is my reference board for sim design)

then,

i really want to play with high school years when it's fixed so of course i'll make my HEARTBREAK HIGH save - basically bringing macha back to life as a teen because it's my fave sim ever, but the style will be more semi-realistic (no alpha in mind but like LiS aesthetic if you get me?? we'll see how i feel) this will still be story-driven but way less, more gameplay-oriented (just like i did with 2002 actually, having fun and making up stories out of what the game gave me lol)—i kinda want it to feel like my own lil sitcom yk???

these will be my 2 main saves for the moment (i'm still playing my heartblood save but i think i need to give it a makeover before posting it again lol)—and then, i'd like to create a mini SLASHER challenge/story, because it's my favourite kind of horror movies and i wanna make my own!! something really cliché like in a summer camp & using sacrificial mods and i'll play the murderer and you won't know who it is until the end of the challenge ANYWAYS i've been rambling for too long and no oNE CARES so good night!!! i'm going back home tomorrow so i will be able to PLAY

Some of you are probably curious about these pupys. Where are they from? How can I read about them?

Well, putting it simply, when was the last time you read a book or graphic novel from Norway that wasn't a crime/mystery, something by a crime author that happened to be translated because of their previous works? And no, old books or Roald Dahl as his books were released in Britain first does not count, nor the Raven Rings as their publisher was made exactly for bringing European books that aren't British or Irish to the North American market.

They deserve a fair chance just as much as other books. And it so happens that recently Seven Seas, the ones publishing fan-favorite Shimanami Tasogare after many requested it in their survey. And it so happens that recently in their most recent survey they do not only ask for manga, but "What non-licensed MANGA/GRAPHIC NOVEL would you like us to license and publish in English? (From any country.) Type it here.". So choose your 2 favorites or 2 random among the graphic novels, and put them in there (maybe links directly to them using the website I just linked to (as it has all the contact information they need), or maybe "[story name] by [author]", up to you). This would mean a lot to the authors (who really want to reach the international market), their international fans who often ask them when they come out in English and the author cannot give a clear answer and would make me really happy too. It'll also bring the world closer together.

The other fields

You might have noticed 3 other fields, 2 light novel and sadly just 1 Web comic field. If you looked at the Norwegian graphic novel website you might have noticed that Phenomena wasn't one of them. But if we consider light novels illustrated non-brick (bricks are books the size of of the twilight, multiple hp, etc. books), Phenomena can be suggested as such as there's at most about 318 pages per book (but most stay at around 220 pages) compared to the aforementioned two series' 600+ at times while their minimum is Phenomena's maximum). While I do not know if there are any pupys in them, do I quite like Laia López' art, and her book Strawberry Moon, as well as two she's illustrated and helped write a bit to my knowledge Mystical and Royalty Witches look super cool too if you don't know what to suggest for the other field. Many ask her as well when the books release in English on her Instagram. Cronache del Regno della Fantasía looks pretty fun too.

For webcomics containing pupys that are already here are there Days of Hana with werewolves (Kor/Eng), Verona and Doran from Watermelon, Lookism (Kor/Eng) with quite a few, Heartblood with other werewolves, City Vamps with Zoe (Esp/Eng), Lumine with weredogs and werewolves (especially Lumine himself), Shnee from City of Blank, Hail from Rebirth, and more.

By the way, I for a while read Phantom Paradise as it was about Chinese mythology, but after a while the comments were mostly people wanting to kill all Japanese because of what the army did during WW2. Yes what the army did was unforgivable, but blaming the civilians and people there now for it is not a solution. Also, the hero of the story after growing up rapes a young boy because the author finds mlm cute and storywise is it's "the best outcome of the situation", which is just disgusting. So avoid that one like the plague.

What first inspired you to draw? I think it was W.I.T.C.H. comic which I loved a lot when I was a child. Akira Toriyama and Arina Tanemura have been one of those biggest inspiration to me start drawing comics myself.

What programs do you use to to draw? My favorite for drawing is Paint tool sai and I edit my art with Clipstudio Paint and Photoshop elements 9

What kind of tablet do you use? I had one old  Bamboo Wacom tablet several years but on these days I have Wacom Cintiq 13 Hd (which I call "Cindy" I love this screen tablet very much.)

What is your favorite thing to draw? I love drawing feelings. So, maybe face is one of the favorite thing to me to draw...

How long have you been drawing for? Hmmm. I was 12 when I said to myself I want to be a comic artist and I started to practice drawing comics and human anatomy back then.....  so, 15 years. (Oh gosh I feel old)

Are there any particular artists that have inspired you over the years? I said few comic artist before and I would love to continue the list: Lettie_bug on instagram. I have followed her 5 years and I just love her Stasis comic. Her artworks are really pretty.

Did you go to school for art or are you self taught? Would you recommend a formal education? I went to one of the Finland's oldest art school named " The Liminka School of Art" I was two years there and those were really good years. We had really much fun there and I got manu friends there. Plus in small country like finland I got a chance meet amazing comic artists.

Do you do Commissions? Are they open? do you have a link to your commission page? I have take some commissions and I would love to take more but right now I am super busy with our webcomic named "Heartblood"

Maybe in close future? We will see.

If you want make a comic, just do it!   You get better by doing. If you are not sure about what you want to draw ask a friend or someone to write some story for you. (Like I and my friend Inna are doing with Heartblood)

Okay so I know this is a literature blog but there are a few things I’d like to mention that are either literature-adjacent or just,,, not literature at all,,, but still super queer.

I don’t really read books nowadays (though I am working on it). I do, however, consume hundreds of thousands of words of fanfics on ao3  and have also written 185,343 words of my own fics to date. It’s a very nicely organized site full of fanfics (though I think there are some original stories on there as well), and once you get used to the set up it’s pretty easy to use. Things are broken down by fandom, and from there you can search for fics with certain ships, characters, or other themes (angst, angst with a happy ending, fluff, crack, smut, etc). You can leave kudos on stories, even as a guest, and also comment. With an account you can bookmark things and publish your own stuff. So if you have a queer ship from a book or tv show or movie or whatever (or just any ship really), I highly recommend ao3. The site even has different skins, and one of the defaults basically just puts the site in dark mode (very handy if you’re up in the wee hours of the morning reading fics and your eyes are begging for the sleep you are so cruelly denying them). There are also Archive Warnings for some of the more triggering content, and you can filter your search to not include certain warnings and tags as well!

Ao3 is probably one of the queerest sites out there just cuz, well, fanfics in general, but there are some other places where one can find some quality queer content (ooh alliteration).

There’s also Wattpad and fanfiction.net but I don’t really like those for some reason??? Oh and Quotev has some fanfics too, but mostly original stories.

Webtoons- https://www.webtoons.com/en/

This website (or app, which is what I usually use) is full of comics and other stories and you can read most of it free. They have started doing a coin thing, but as far as I can tell you’ll still be able to read old stuff free if you have the patience to read one ep a day, and most webtoons don’t have that feature yet as far as I know. If you do have money, you can also pay to read episodes of certain featured webtoons early, though once you do that you’ll either have to keep paying to read ahead or have to wait for the usual publication date to catch up...

Anyway, coins aside, this app is great for free, quality content. There are featured webtoons you can read, or you can also browse Canvas (or even publish your own on Canvas, and if it gets popular enough you could get featured and be paid and all that hullabaloo). There are getting to be more LGBTQ+ Webtoons, though my favorites are Mage & Demon Queen by Color_LES and Heartblood by Jatta S. and Inna S., both of which are GL, and Andy Bass by KenneDuck, which just has so much representation it’s amazing. There’s also a newer one called Fluidum by GirlsOnFilm/ValeriaM that I haven’t read much of yet but that seems to deal with gender stuff in an interesting way. Oh and Adventures of God by Teo/Corey has a gay character who comes with a very interesting explanation for why gays are sent to hell (it’s amazing, I swear).

And of course there are plenty of Webtoons that, thus far, don’t have any out LGBTQ+ characters, but that I still love and am going to mention here because damn: Unholy Blood by Lina Im/Jeonghyeon Kim has beautiful art and vampires, The Witch and the Bull by Moonsia also has beautiful art and now witches what’s not to love, Sarah’s Scribbles by Sarah Andersen which is just highly relatable and I freaking love it (including the wacky/adorable art style), and Everyday Cynical by Brendan Cave which is also highly relatable and very well drawn.
