The Lasso Way

I'm doing my best to avoid feeling disappointed with the Ted Lasso series finale.

Here's my pov: I believe that the core message of the story is that Ted needed to step out of his comfort zone and undergo personal growth in order to excel in all aspects of his life. His emotional development played a significant role in various aspects, and he seemed quite stuck before moving to England.

Throughout the show, Ted exemplifies growth and resilience in the face of adversity. His journey underscores the importance of seeking help, nurturing emotional well-being, and forging meaningful connections with others. Ultimately, he ends up in a positive place both personally and professionally, even if some of us may think he deserved more.

Ted successfully confronts his struggles with anxiety and depression over the course of the series. He overcomes his personal challenges while leading Richmond to victory, both emotionally and professionally. He helps each member of the team grow into the best versions of themselves, which aligns with Ted's original motto: "For me, success is not about the wins and losses. It's about helping these young fellas be the best versions of themselves on and off the field."

Ted's coaching style, characterized by empathy and teamwork, remains a central aspect of his character. Furthermore, his relationships with his colleagues and friends deepen as they rally around him during difficult times. He strengthens his bond with Coach Beard (he will forever be known as Willis in my 💙), Rebecca (i’ll be a TedBecca stan 4lyfe), Roy (my emotionally inept bby finally started opening up), Jamie (probably my favorite character overall—give this man an 🏆), Nate (he’s forgiven tenfold), and many others who provide support and understanding during his lowest moments. Throughout it all, he leads by example, maintains his kindness, and stays true to himself.

I'd like to leave you with one of my favorite quotes from the series: "Taking on a challenge is a lot like riding a horse, isn't it? If you're comfortable while you're doing it, you're probably doing it wrong." While reading reviews last night, I came across this quote again, and something clicked 💡.

Ted became so comfortable with football that he even gained an understanding of the game he initially claimed to know nothing about. He propelled the growth of those around him and, in the process, learned a few things himself. With that said, he accomplished what he set out to do and emerged as a completely transformed individual.

“ we’ve  only  been  here  a  few  hours  and  you’re  already  like  this ? ”  ezra  tuts  from  the  driver’s  seat ,  watching  their  guest  from  the  rearview  mirror .  in  the  passenger  side ,  henry’s  all  knowing - smiles ,  glancing  over  his  shoulder ,  watching  the  other  squirm  in  their  seat .  they  can’t  be  too  surprised ,  though  —  they  always  get  like  this ,  when  all  three  of  them  are  together .  coupled  with  the  few  drinks  they’d  all  had  ( aside  from  ezra ,  of  course )  it  was  bound  to  happen ;  windows  beginning  to  fog  up  from  their  third  party’s  labored  breathing  in  the  back  seat ,  car  nearly  shaking  from  how  bad  they’re  trembling  with  desire .

“ you  want  to  touch  yourself  that  badly ,  huh ?  always  so  needy , ”  henry  coos  teasingly ,  reaching  a  hand  back  to  brush  over  their  knee ,  a  gentle  push  so  they  can  get  a  better  view  between  their  legs .  “ go  on ,  sweetheart ,  show  us  how  bad  you  want  it ,  yeah ? ”
