1. Who would end a heated argument by defending their actions with ‘because I love you’?

Harry to be honest. I can see this being his reasoning every time he works overtime or does anything with the intention of protecting her and his family. “I’m doing this for our family, to make the world a safer place for them. Because I love you! And I love them!” Also this dude is mega dramatic for literally anything. Whether Ginny would accept that as a valid reason to end an argument is another question entirely 🤔 . Either way, there’s always a part of her that tingles every time she hears it.

13. Who’s the bigger tease?

Intentionally, Ginny. She’d corner him when he’s either really busy doing work at home or even at the Burrow, Ministry meetings, or even at mundane places like the grocery store. She’d flip her hair over her shoulder, exposing her neck, or start touching the pads of her fingers on his bicep, or lean on his side, or stare at him with the classic blazing look. Harry would pretend to ignore it but there’s no mistaking his rising blush - and when he grows older - his foot and fingers from tapping restlessly before he gives in and pushes her against the wall in some lonely corridor (just like old times) where he can really give all his attention to her, not that she didn’t have it already.

Unintentionally, Harry. He’d offer to read the book she’s reading (“you’re laughing so much, it can’t be that funny” but they both know he wants to just laugh with her), or compliment her flying skills, or gush at her witty commentary in the Prophet, or suggest he watch the kids while she goes for some much needed girl time - in which case, Ginny decides everything else can fucking wait because this hunk of a man is actually with her forever and ever and ever, and she proceeds to blow his effing mind (amongst other things) once more.

17. Who's more likely to pull the other in by the waist and kiss them passionately?

Both do it a lot tbh, but the person who does it the most is Harry. As much of a rep Gin gets for being impulsive, when it comes to random kisses Harry takes the lead. In his eyes, she’s just so cute and small but also she’s this ball of energy and light, and when he looks upon her as she’s hexing yet another person who lowkey (high key) deserved it, he thinks back to the war and his suffering and all he can come to terms with is yes. It was worth it. She will always be. And then, boom. He snogs the angst away, and she lets him.

20. Choose one song that perfectly describes their relationship.

27. Who is the light weight that needs to be taken care of after a party?

Sigh. Ginny, poor thing. As a shorty myself, I figure she wouldn’t get past much. But Harry finds it cute when she drinks and she’s always doing really silly things like dancing on top of tables and making really brazen innuendos that make him grin as much as he blushes. She’d probably hit him teasingly for being a “typical noble male git” if he told her this, but he really really really enjoys taking care of her afterward, lying her down and giving her water and massaging her sore feet (because dancing is exhausting, people!) and pampering her in ways she’d roll her eyes at if she was sober.

51. What’s a non verbal way they say I love you?

At first, my answer was going to be in very practical ways like doing each other’s dishes without asking for it/not their day to do it, or Harry killing the cockroach in the corner of the room without teasing her even the tiniest bit because dammit Ron may be scared of spiders but Ginny is absolutely terrified of those disgusting shitters (“Did you know cockroaches have evolved the least out of all bugs?” “Yes, Gin, you say this every single time.”)

But then I remember HBP and the intimate way they’d interact, so I actually do think they keep anniversary dates in mind (nothing too big but appreciative enough - and they definitely like experiences/traveling more than fancy dinners). And I think the way they laugh and touch each other and run fingers through the other’s hair and give massages are all very intimate expressions indeed.

Especially laughter. When Ginny makes a joke and Harry laughs, that validation is like he’s telling her he loves her 3245 times and she absolutely gushes over it.

And when Harry catches Ginny’s mischievous eyes every time someone says an inappropriate joke, he finds himself physically pressing his palm to the core of his chest from the way his heart violently wants to leap out of it.

I would tell you to look at my bookmarks on Ao3 but I'll give you some highlights (I'll keep wips out of this because I never know how to feel about recommending unfinished work):

Gone was any trace of you -- I'm pretty sure I've read this something like a billion times, I can quote it word by word

Come stay for the summer -- this is always such a light fun work to re-read, I'm a big fan of muggle hinny, I really have a soft spot for it

Altered -- the obsession I have for this one-shot, this to me is hinny in its purest form

A Weasley reunion -- some hardcore pining from Harry, and fake dating, what do you want more from life?

Time -- Harry realising he wants children, with Ginny. The specific way in which the realisation is written is something I adore

Summer rain -- this is great, what else there is to say really, it's just great

Sacred new beginnings -- I love how this somehow manages to be a retelling of sixth year despite being a muggle AU with young adults hinny

Orchards -- the author definitely has a higher opinion of the "golden trio" than I have but the way she writes dialogues between Harry and Ginny is perfect, she also does a thing I love which is to make Ginny actually funny. It's one of her main personality traits and yet it's forgotten so often, I think it happens due to some sort of unconscious bias about women not being funny (not native English speakers writers are forgiven though because being funny in a foreign language can be quite hard)

After the leaves have fallen -- this talks about what I call Harry and Ginny's never-ending argument and it's written so beautifully

Everything I am is yours -- I just noticed that on ao3 it's signed as the first chapter of two but it definitely can stand on its own and is a very well done muggle retelling of Harry and Ginny's story

take what I took and give it back to you -- a beautifully written soulmates marks au that doesn't really change Harry and Ginny's story but, as one of the comments says, seems to bring up an existing implied element of the canon one

Already here -- because Hannah's stories that I love the most (they are all great though) are wips, I'll put this one in the hopes that one day she'll decide to turn it into a multi-chapter story (@takearisk-ao3 think about it 👀)

The brilliant dance -- this is so fucking funny and entertaining while also being heartwarming. Fucked up but inevitable/obsessed with each other hinny spending their early 20s being a hot mess is my AU drug

Someone else's life -- finished reading this a few days ago, a very well developed brilliant idea

That was the hardest part,” he mumbled against her collarbone. He’d never said the words before, but the compulsion to speak them aloud overshadowed nearly all other thought. “I knew how to die, but… I didn’t know how to live.”

Ginny stopped breathing. He was sure of it. Seconds ticked by, Harry hiding in her embrace in an effort to avoid the declaration of truth he couldn’t take back. 

Shifting her hands to his jaw, she waited until he reconnected their eye contact before she asked, “Have you figured it out yet?”

Harry softened his expression, trailing a finger across her temple to slide a loose strand of copper hair away from her face. “With you, I might.”

Ginny paused, "And then what?"

She looked up from the computer screen, archiveofourown.org's white screen lighting up her face. "And then what happens?"

Harry shrugged, stuttering out his next sentence, "I-I'm not sure. The next chapter hasn't been published yet!"

"Well how does it get published?" Ginny asked, practically begging.

"We could bother the author, and ask if there is going to be an update soon?"

Ginny waved her hand at him, "She will hate that."

She sighed, shaking her head. "Maybe we can ask more subtly, ask her about her writing process or even a sneak peek?"

"Yeah!" Harry nodded his head, "That is a great plan!" He pulled the laptop towards him, "It looks like her tumblr is @takearisk-ao3, we can just ask her a question there and hope for the best."

Ginny typed out a message in the ask box, subtly as possible asking for an update. She paused before she hit send, turning to Harry, "Do you think it will be too much to ask for an update for Memories Feel Like Weapons too?"

some things were still easy, harry mused, running his finger idly up ginny’s calf. they were lying in the field behind the burrow, he and ginny and ron and hermione (he thought it like that in his head, meandginnyandronandhermione, each a singular unit, part of two separate units, one total unit) and he had lain back to look at the stars, ginny’s laughter dancing above him, their voices a murmur, and he was just drunk enough to drift out of the conversation and let it float around him without having to process a word, feeling contemplative but not yet maudlin (at the edge of his thoughts flickered the tint of depression–he purposefully avoided it, knowing that once he slipped in that direction he would keep sliding that way until he couldn’t breathe, and tonight wasn’t the night for that)

he stared up at the stars and thought about things that were still easy. feeling ginny's smooth skin under his fingertips. taking another sip of his drink (another one of ron’s concoctions, cheap firewhiskey mixed with gillywater and a cloying homemade juice luna had brought over last week, ingredients to be kept a secret, which none of them had been drinking, but ron claimed he had perfected a use for it–– the gillywater dilutes it and the firewhiskey cuts the sweetness, i’ve made the perfect drink this time––it was definitively not good, but in the realm of drinkable)

he trailed his fingers further up ginny’s leg, dipping into the hollow under her knee––sex was easy, so easy for them, the way they fit together, the way he could tune into the tiniest hitches in her breath––harry shifted slightly at that thought, and made an effort to refocus on the conversation–– “to be fair,” hermione was saying, through a slight hiccup, “to be fair, it did look like a kneazle! i saw the split tail!”

“no,” ginny was shaking her head, breathless with laughter, “for the tenth time, a fox with a stick stuck in its tail does not look anything like a kneazle! ron, back me up here, you saw the fox––”

ron grinned at hermione from the other side of the blanket, lounging back on his elbows, “i dunno, could’ve been a kneazle from where i stood. i’ve seen crookshanks give me a similar sly glance, and he’s part kneazle, isn’t he––”

“oh, you’re no help––” ginny looked down at harry, who was surprised to realize that it seemed this was a story being retold for his benefit–– “i swear, harry, she was out here this morning trying to catch a normal fox for two hours, ron and i came out and she was telling us off for tripping her sensory spell, and then this fox with a stupid messed-up tail came sprinting through the orchard, and she actually shot an impedimenta at it––”

“it’s late. i’m going to bed” hermione announced imperiously, cutting ginny off. she got up with an impressive steadiness, given she was still hiccuping, and set off towards the house.

ron pushed himself up and stood to his full height, stretching his arms above him and letting out a groan. he looked down at ginny and harry, neither of whom had budged, and shrugged. “where hermione goes, so goes my nation," he said, and strode off, with a "g’night, you two,” tossed over his shoulder, quickly catching up to his girlfriend and grabbing her around the middle, eliciting a squeak.

harry looked away from his two best friends and back to ginny, who was smirking down at him. “i thought they’d never leave” she whispered, and she kissed him, soft and sweet. he lost himself in the kiss, the darkness in the corners of his mind ebbing away, pushed away by a cloud of ginnyginnyginnyginny, and he took firmer hold of her leg where his hand still rested and tugged her down on top of him (and she came easily, the most natural movement in the world, and some things––very few things––some things were easy).

My favourite ever fic is @annerbhp - Gone Was Any Trace Of You - seriously, I read this for what must be the 50th time the other night and sobbed again. My pillow was damp, I had to turn it over to go to sleep. This fic is a masterpiece.

Other fics that I love that are hinny & Canon compliant:

- I'm currently reading (slowly) @whinlatter - Beasts and it is so beautifully written! The characterisation is amazing. I adore it, but I feel like this news to no one.

- for post-war hinny, I also love @lanaturnergetup - all your fumble words. Another hinny writer with an absolutely entrancing writing style I one day hope to live up to. The post war grief is so well done in this fic, its so real and raw. I love it.

-One of my favourite canon-compliant one shots is @takearisk-ao3 - Enough of both. This one has top tier spice, perfect hinny characterisation, and pining that will make you ache. I also adore the expansion of the worldbuilding with Luna celebrating the old holidays

Next on my hinny canon compliant tbr is @sophie-hatter-jenkins - Evolution which I'm super excited to get into because all of her one shots have blown me away!

Finally, I just need to give a shout out to a fic that isn't canon compliant but I read it whenever I'm sad, it's my happy comfort fic and I would be remiss not to mention it, and that's @ashotofogdensoldfirewhiskey - Come Stay for the Summer. It's a muggle!au text fix and it is so fun to read from start to finish and I love it with my whole heart.

Things were supposed to be great. So, why in Merlin's name was she having an existential crisis in double Charms? Hello friend!

There are a few people who come to mind when I think of Hinny, but this is absolutely not an exhaustive list. And everyone else feel free to reblog with your suggestions!

First, you should fall my bestie Becky, @harryissuchalittleshit. She's got some great Hinny fics, but also just a great collection of fics in general. She's created her own canon and all of her fics are connected. What she has done is really great and she's also an awesome writer! So, check her out.

@takearisk-ao3 has some hinny fics that are on my TBR, which is always chaotic and out of control. From what I've seen her fics are the bomb dot com.

@hinnyfied has a number of great hinny fics, and I would highly recommend her blog! She is literally just *chef's kiss*.

@gryffindormischief has some great hinny characterization. Like I swear her Harry is just spot on. I highly recommend you go read her fic tilted concession because it has the perfect hinny banter.

@four2andnew is also an amazing writing. She has an Edwardian era AU! How exciting is that?! It is also on my TBR, which as I mentioned previously is very chaotic. But also, just a really awesome writer in general and some peak hinny.

@brightlybound has some great fics featuring both hinny and romione! Also she is a beautiful human being and just a lovely tumblr to follow.

Those are the ones that come to my mind off the top of my head. But you should also follow @hinnymicrofic because there's a lot of hinny content shared there and it's a great way to find writers to follow.

HP Rec Fest Day 12 - A WIP You're Following

I have two picks for Day 12 of the @hprecfest. Actually, I'm following a bunch of WIPs (the Hinny corner of the fandom is truly spoiled right now!), but I've picked out these two as a vote of confidence for two authors that I know have faced some challenges this year.

Hot Auror Harry? Check! Feisty, independent, Ginny? Check! Huge amounts of pining, miscommunication, top notch mystery, stubborn idiots, romance, action, all written with warmth and humour that leaps out of the screen at you - literally the works? Check! Honestly, this has everything - I love it so, so much. I'm probably due a re-read:-)

Summary:

At 22, Ginny had lived through several lifetimes worth of misery. She’d been deceived, betrayed, and possessed; her very soul almost wrung out into nothing. She’d been subordinated, humiliated, and tortured; lived almost an entire year surrounded by enemies. Fought Death Eaters and dementors and giant spiders. Been heartbroken, anguished, and grief stricken. Lost friends and mentors and a brother.

And through it all, she’d survived… because of luck, or sheer force of will.

Maybe a little of both.

If she could suffer and endure and prevail through all of that, she could live through some anonymous wanker plaguing her with badly written poetry.

The original novels from Ginny's POV. We're up to the start of the POA arc, and I lapped up every word. I've read a few fics that include COS from Ginny's POV and this is by far my favourite - the portrait of how she slips from into the darkness, and the way her brothers rally to pull her back again is just gorgeous. I'm so excited for what's to come next!

Why I rec it: here's the thing. I never thought I'd dig amnesia fics. I didn't think I'd dig a HINNY amnesia fic. and yet here I am. I am a huge fan of how @takearisk-ao3 is working this fic and it made me want to write my own (which I did).

Harry stood framed in the doorway, wearing an odd expression. Ginny couldn’t place it at first. His jaw was tight, his brow low, and his eyes hard. 

He looked… anguished. 

A tiny bloom of embarrassment tried to take hold at the thought of him seeing her like this, but after half a second, she realized she couldn’t muster the energy to truly care. 

“Your brothers are on their way,” her dad urged, giving her shoulder a squeeze. “Bill and George ought to be here any moment.”

Ginny laughed wetly. “Couldn't pull Fred away from the shop?

Mum froze and Dad’s eyes fluttered in pain. 

An all consuming sense of foreboding came over her at the looks on both their faces.

Do you have fifteen hours?

I'd say most of my headcanons are more like deductions from canon to be honest. You can find some of them in my one-shots. Anyway, I'll try to make a list of strictly Ginny headcanons.

her favourite colour is green (which between Harry's eyes and the Harpies is basically canon, it's like saying that red being Harry's favourite colour is a headcanon)

as we all know Ginny loves cats, but seeing that her family could never afford to buy her one, she always had in mind that with her first paycheck, she would buy her first cat, and she does

when she was little she wrote adventure stories about her and The Boy Who Lived

writing was a part of her healing process after the Chamber

in her second year, Dumbledore invited her many times to play chess and it was a subtle way to bring her to open up about the diary (this is technically not canon but it's way more canon complaint that Dumbledore did this than the idea that he didn't, both from the perspective of him being a good loving man despite it all, and the cynical perspective of him wanting to know more about Riddle)

I'm a strong supporter of the universally accepted headcanon of Ginny and Sirius having late-night chats at Grimmauld Place

Ginny jokingly promised Sirius that if she and Harry would've actually ended up together (like Sirius seemed to believe) she would've called her first boy after him

as the years go by, she and Rita Skeeter develop a sort of frenemies situation (this is actually something I've been thinking of writing about for a long time)

with tpfy @takearisk-ao3 made me fall in love with the idea that Smith would remain an annoying presence in her life

she was arrested at least once while Harry was already Head Auror, it was very embarrassing for the Aurors involved

McGonagall asked her to become Head Girl but she turned it down

she was the first woman to become sports editor for the Daily Prophet (for who doesn't know this: sports journalism is an exetremely sexist field)

I can't imagine Ginny as anything but the coolest of mothers

every young Quidditch player dreams of the stamp of approval from Ginny Potter, if she says a player is going to be great then that player is going to be great, she very much has the power of influencing the players' market with her opinions

in general, I imagine Ginny as eventually a very revolutionary, iconic, and borderline intimidating figure of sports journalism, someone people would aspire to work with and become like (a sort of way less workaholic and good version of Miranda Priestly)

obviously, she published books, but I totally see her publishing also novels and I think that Ginny specifically writing children's novels in her last years would be a very full circle moment seeing that she started the story in love with The Boy Who Lived

I'm kind of into the idea of Ginny eventually starting her own newspaper (with Albus, because I headcanon him as a journalist too)

she is extremely careful in making sure Lily Luna never thinks she can't do something because she is a girl and she makes sure James and Albus never shove her aside

she loves Harry's smile (this is kind of canon, to be honest, fourth book) and she absolutely adores the sound of his laugh

she rescues animals like it's her job, the Potter house is filled with rescues (Harry is always grumpy at first about it, more because he feels like someone should be the reasonable one but secretly it's just one of the many things he loves about her)

the animals obviously have the weirdest names

she kind of likes Slughorn, in the way you like a weird uncle you see once a year

she absolutely can cook, she is the only daughter of Molly Weasley, of course she can cook, she just doesn't like doing it most of the time

even after she stops playing she still keeps doing regular physical exercise

All is well is something she started saying to Harry after he had nightmares, eventually, Harry started doing it with her too, and it sort of became their mantra

she was a bit disturbed by the fact that she would never be able to know if James and Lily would have approved of her, she went alone to their graves the day before her wedding to talk with them

this is substantially canon, but according to JKR, when yew wands (like Ginny's) get buried with their owner, a yew tree is born from the grave and I adore that image (the tree protects Harry's grave too)

I'm pretty sure I could go on for an eternity but let's stop here.

He watched her fall and thought he was going to be the one to die.

While the crowd around him reacted to the illegal hit the Ballycastle Bats' beater made, Harry felt his heart fall along with Ginny as she slipped off of her broom.

One, two, three feet she fell.

Admittedly, she was quite close to the ground when the bludger hit the tail of her broom, but that didn't make Harry feel much better. Her back hit the ground first, her feet and then her head hit the grass shortly after.

The crowd oohed, drowning out the sound of Ginny's string of curses she shouted at the whole Ballycastle team. In one swift motion, Ginny swung her leg back over her broom and raced off. With an outstretched hand, she intercepted the throw between the Ballycastle chasers. She threw the quaffle to her teammate and raced off to the hoops.

Harry watched closely monitoring each move.

She was slightly out of formation on the Hawkshead formation. Was she concussed?

Was that a flash of her read hair on her forehead or was that blood?

She scored that goal with her left arm not her right, did she hit her right arm when she hit the ground?

The match ended 47 minutes and 31 seconds later, not that Harry was counting, when the Harpies seeker caught the snitch while the Ballycastle seeker was looking in the opposite direction.

Harpies win, 370 to 180.

Ginny and her teammates practically danced off the field, hooting and hollering at their win, but Harry's anxiety still did not subside. He knew she would be escorted back to the Healer's room as protical since she was knocked off her broom during a match. He just hoped she was actually okay.

Harry pushed his way through the crowd, making his way to the back. It was one of the few times he was thankful to be so recognizable. He waved to the Harpies security guard as he let him in the back of the stadium.

Down the hallway from Healer's room, Harry could hear Ginny laugh. Good. Harry thought, calming some of his anxiety. If Ginny was laughing that meant she couldn't be that badly hurt.

Pushing open the door, Harry stopped short, realizing the source of Ginny's laughter.

Victor Krum.

Harry had never understood his best friend any more than in that moment because why was famous Quidditch star, Triwizard Tournament competitor, Victor Krum, talking with Harry's girlfriend?

"You look quite unsettled over there, Potter," Ginny said grinning at him.

"Harry! It is so good to see you again," Krum said in his stupid accent. "I was hoping I you would be here today." Krum strolled to Harry with an outstretched hand.

Harry crossed his arms, "Why wouldn't I be at my girlfriend's match?"

Ginny rolled her eyes, "Don't worry about my boyfriend's attitude, Victor, he gets all grumpy whenever I fall off of my broom."

Victor!? Harry gets called Potter, but Krum get's called Victor?

"I do not get grumpy," But Harry's voice faded at the end of his sentence with Ginny's pointed look at him, his hand finally meeting Krum's in a handshake.

"I vas at the game because I was told to scout out Ballycastle's beaters," Krum grimmaced, "vas not impressed."

Harry begrudgingly agreed.

"But, I was very impressed with Ginny over here. That Chelmondiston Charge you pulled off right after intercepting the quaffle vas spectacular."

"She is spectacular," Harry stated, matter-of-factly.

Ginny stuck her tongue out at him.

"I just wanted to compliment her and talk her out of ever joining England's professional team. Bulgaria doesn't need anymore competition," Krum winked at Harry like it was some inside joke. "Vell, I get out of both of your hair. Tell Fleur ello from me when you see her next."

The door clicked shut after Krum, and silence filled the room for just a moment before Ginny burst out into laughter.

"You are so jealous!" She accused him.

"Am not!" Harry lied.

"I cannot wait to talk about Hermione about this," Ginny grinned.

what i'm looking forward to -

anything, really. i've dabbled with horror, and as a fan of buffy the vampire slayer and supernatural, it's great to dive deep into the genre. it's one-part love letter and one-part exploration of monsters and trauma! i'm also craving more disabled queer romances!!!!!!!

other than waiting to see how many people realize that i borrowed heavily from amherst college for the setting, i want to show why i love the trope Came Back Wrong. it's a metaphor for mental health, a tool to explore characterization, a way to haunt yourself!

i love twisting tropes, especially when it comes to gender! the usual romantasy archetypes are turned around - the girl is dark-haired and tormented while the guy is young and naive

i'm excited to explore more of the magic because i've drawn a lot from diasporic practices. i have growing sources about plant use, exorcisms, and more! i love research!!!!!!!!!

i wrote this draft back in...2019. it was my first full story in ages, and a lot has changed since. i know if i look at it with clearer eyes, it would read like holly black fanfic...

I'm literally on the last chapter of SEL so it's hard to answer this without spoiling. I'm excited to write the epilogue.

It's been 2 years, I'm kind of just excited to pick this back up?? There's a scene with Carrow and Ginny where he recognises her from the Astronomy Tower that I'm pretty excited about!

A cute dad!Harry moment & teenaged girls being scarier than dark wizards, what is not to enjoy writing?

I really want to write Ginny dealing with Fred's death and asking Harry what he saw when he died while looking for reassurance (bc I hate happiness and good vibes)

This spawned from a paragraph in chapter 6 of SEL: 'She'd slipped into his home office three nights ago, it'd been late, and she’d been intent on enticing him out of there. She'd barely spared the piece of parchment bearing the crest a glance before she'd swept it aside, assuring Harry she was far more interesting than anything in his mountain of files. He'd not taken much convincing to agree with that statement.' - so I guess I want to write that.
