I'm curious as to how you got mitched. Was it gradual or did you just wake up one day with an all consuming urge to gently cradle this hamster of a man in your palms and deposit him into your pocket

oh it was not gradual at all let me tell you. it descended upon me faster than the leafs concede 2-0 leads. it descended upon me SO SWIFTLY i'm still reeling and trying to understand WHAT HAPPENED and how this little twink got me SO BAD.

so, the chronology of events and the Epic Tale of The Fall of Troy (me) to The Twink was as follows:

me happily existing as a pens fan who - after a long hiatus of not following hockey closely - just started getting back into the penguins because a casual conversation with my friends about hockey awakened my dormant penguins sicko memories and instincts like mount vesuvius erupting all over pompeii and herculaneum

me happily joining hockey tumblr and frolicking around in the pensblr fandom. i'd seen a couple of leafs games and knew that "that kid marner" was really good and played VERY pretty hockey but I honestly did not think about him at all! he was just some tiktoker lookin ass dude and i was busy tending to my geriatric birds (although i will say - as i started watching more and more hockey, leafs immediately endeared themselves to me for reasons i can't quite articulate. they just had good vibes. the contrast between the INCREDIBLE hypnotizingly beautiful hockey they played + the utterly boneheaded indefensibly bad mistakes and losses to bottom feeder teams? relatable queens!)

and then one day i found "jack campbell cat dad" content on here and became intrigued by auston matthews' massive mountainous body and jawline and looked up toronto maple leafs content on youtube. THIS, DEAR READER, WAS MY FIRST FATAL MISTAKE. you see - the toronto maple leafs' social media team HANDS DOWN makes the best content, because they FUNDAMENTALLY realize hockey teams and kpop groups are the same thing, especially when it comes to gaining new fans.

ANYWAY, i still remember the EXACT video that made me go - "my god, what is this silly little twink all about. why does he have eyelashes like that. i would like to both squash him into a viscous glittery paste i rub on my eyelids like eyeshadow AND cradle him in my fannypack while feeding him little nuts and pieces of asiago cheese." IT WAS THIS VIDEO - tHE LEAFS CALLING EACH OTHER OUT . THE INFAMOUS VIDEO WHERE MITCH DOESNT KNOW HOW TO SAY ENCYCLOPEDIA. i love a dumb little boy!

MY SECOND FATAL MISTAKE was dragging a fellow friend into hockey with me because im incapable of obsessing over something by myself. i always need to get someone else into it too. SO. I started showing my friend leafs content and SHE was like "have u noticed that this little fruit won't stop talking about auston matthews every chance he gets" (EXHIBIT A: THIS VIDEO where mitch mentions how good auston looks in EVERYTHING every 20 seconds. baby girl, enough. ENOUGH. just say you're dickmatized and go)

and then alas. ALAS. my third and final fatal mistake was going down the mitch marner tag on tumblr and unfortunately being exposed to all the ways in which! he is just! AN IDIOT MANIC PIXIE DREAM TWINK with 2 braincells (one of which is a sour skittle), daddy issues and tragic lore, and irresponsibly long eyelashes who loves physically glomming onto every teammate like a baby koalabear, adopting himself into older teammates' families as their part-time son and part-time dog, wearing terrible outfits and dancing in them, generally being a needy sweetheart that loves to chirp his teammates (poorly) but loves gassing them up even more, drawing smiley faces on his gloves to remind himself that hockey is supposed to be fun (this detail kills me every day), and making weird little faces on the bench because he has the zoomies? god, i am not your strongest soldier! i was not BUILT to be able to resist little sugary sweet morsels like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if MATTHEW MARTIN, one of nhl's TOP LEADERS IN HITS, caved into mitchell marner heart body and soul....what the fuck am I supposed to do? not give him the love and headpats and neck scritches he wants? not root for his little happiness and well-being? i'm an idiot but not a MONSTER

anyway, that's why i am here typing up this monstrous screed on all the ways in which i was personally victimized by mitchell marner i guess.

okay wait i WILL add one thing - so long before i was a hockey fan i was a soccer fan, and have always always loved undersized creative playmakers who can seemingly weave magic from thin air while effortlessly eluding opponents as if they're made from pixie dust themselves. i have no doubt if mitch grew up in a country where soccer was THE sport, he would be a world class playmaking midfielder right now. and in that sense i do think my adoption of mitch marner as my little hamster was inevitable tbh.

- I don't really have much to say about this match, both Candice and Iyo are extremely good at what they do but my 2 month hiatus from wrestling up until Rumble means I don't really have a frame of reference for this story wise.

- Bayley looks like your favourite aunt you only see once a year and they let you take a sip of their drink and promises not to tell your mam about your boyfriend.

- The Poisonrana from electric chair was so cool to watch, nice one Candice

- ohhh NXT Vengeance Day is in Charlotte, nice to see they're getting out of the PC for PPVs again, I missed that. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the crowd at the PC

- I do think it was extremely good to turn JD's focus to Rhea, after Edge was ousted, they felt a bit aimless and goofy. And while they still are a bit goofy, they play into it as much as n ended while also seeming like an actual decent threat. I think this is due in part to shifting the spotlight to Rhea, because she is genuinely quite a big threat. Can't wait to see what the build to WM will be for her.

- RHEAS GOING FOR CHARLOTTE, THIS IS HER WRESTLEMANIA REDEMTION YESSSSSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!!! HOW'S THAT FOR THE LONG TERM BOOKING ASSHATS

- NAH BUT SERIOUSLY THE STORY OF RHEA BEING AT THE TOP OF NXT GETTING COCKY AND FEELING INVINCIBLE THEN LOOSING. THEN GOING ON A JOURNEY GOING THROUGH A FRIENDSHIP BREAKUP, FINDING HER PLACE AND LEANING INTO TO HOW TRULY DESTRUCTIBLE SHE IS TO GET REVENGE ON THE WOMAN WHO KNOCKED HER DOWN AT THE TOP OF THE HILL IS FANTASTIC.

- I think it was probably gonna be obvious that Seth & Logan Paul are going into a WM fued seeing what happened at Rumble. And while I have no doubt the match will be good, as much as I dislike Paul he is very good for such a new and part time wrestler, idk man I feel like Seth would be good in literally any other feud. But hey either way it's going to be a high profile match and lord knows Seth has worked hard to get where he is so good for him.

- The mere sight of JBL has stirred up some PTSD buried deep from childhood, at least I don't have to hear those stock bells 💀😂

- How dare you Corey, Gargano is Lumis' Wrestling Father in Law that's why he's here 😤😤

- I do kinda love JBL being ... Uh how do I explain this? Like anti-indie guys kind of? Thinking about Lilith and Hunter... how she claims she hates the golden guard... because he's so smug and proud and petty and always gets special treatment; because he reminds her of Eda, and because she's projecting her mommy issues.

It makes me curious to see if she'll ever meet Hunter, the kid behind the mask, because he's nerdy and approval-seeking and sad and traumatized; because he's actually more like Lilith.

I don't think she'll hate him when she comes back from her parents's house, and I'm really curious to see how their dynamic plays out *crosses fingers in auntie Lilith*

I hope Curse of Strahd is going well! You've given us some Brendan lore, but I'm curious about the other party members too, if you can tell us more about them. :-0

It’s been on hiatus for a bit due to scheduling conflicts, but we’re soon approaching the end of the campaign! 

My understanding of the other party members’ lore is a bit spotty, but here’s what I got:

Diana

A wood elf and a cleric of the Raven Queen, Diana is a bookish nerd who is also the party’s mom and moral compass. She hails from Candlekeep where she worked as a librarian of sorts. Apparently she had a dragonborn friend who had died at one point, and now that dragonborn friend has kind of gone off the deep end and is in sort of a state of half-life? 

Other than that, Diana is remarkably well-adjusted as a character, and as a result she doesn’t have a whole lot in her backstory that has come back to bite her.

Korag

A half-orc Eldritch Knight, Korag is (usually) the quiet type, being our party’s rock and lone braincell. Korag’s parents met under rather unusual circumstances. Korag’s orc father was captured and jailed for the heinous crime for being too orcish while he was taking a stroll near the castle where Korag’s human mother lived. Korag’s mother was like “yo that’s fucked up” and tried to get him out of jail but couldn’t, so she did what she could and cared for him while he was incarcerated. 

Growing up in a castle full of racists, Korag was frequently harassed, and at one point he had his head shoved into some hot coals, severely burning half his face. Despite this, he managed to work his way upward into knighthood, where he’d befriended the court wizard and learned to cast spells that would help him better protect himself and the people he cared for. 

All of that quickly came to an end, however, when Korag had been tasked with the protection of a young nobleman and heir to the castle. Upon failing to stop an assassination, Korag was ruthlessly harassed until he decided “enough is enough” and left, because honestly he deserves to have much better people in his life.

Recently, we’ve actually discovered that Korag’s wizard mentor is in Barovia, but he was driven mad and just about killed us once or twice. We just brought him back to his senses though, so I’m looking forward to seeing where this thread leads us.

Casimir is a high-elf swashbuckler who had previously worked as an entertainer in an arena, as a gladiator of sorts. Being one of the party’s two twinks, he is the party’s charming grifter and Big Numbers Sneaky Boi. He and Brendan have a bit of a Tulio-and-Miguel sort of dynamic going on, and Brendan considers him to be his best friend. 

Cas was raised by a grouchy old dwarf named Darius, whom he was very fond of. One day though, Darius went missing so Cas was like “oh shit my dad’s gone on a journey out of nowhere! This seems out of character for him; I’d better go look and see if something’s gone wrong,” which led to Cas adventuring through Barovia with us. 

So about halfway through the campaign, we managed to meet Marie, a human woman who he thinks of as his sister. They were both in the thieves’ guild at some point and as the saying goes, they were as thick as two people who are thick with each other. WELL as it turns out, Marie actually MURDERED Darius and used brain magic to wipe this from Casimir’s memory, so now we’re tracking down Marie so Cas can finally get some answers.

Ok so... this might sound weird, but while I am leaning towards the idea of Levi committing assisted suicide, there’s this other thing in my head as well. What if Declan did something? Like, maybe I’m being a little extreme here, but what if he switched out Levi’s prescription of the actual amount of morphine he was given, with a fake one just to get Esme into trouble (which would mean we’d get screwed as well). What if he found out that his new trial could kill Levi in time, and didn’t want the blame to fall on him, so he tampered with the prescription? Cause Esme seemed genuinely shocked and broken, but I guess that could also be just because she helped him commit suicide. Eh, I’ve lost my last few braincells this week, and I most certainly spend more time making OH theories than actually studying my school stuff😬

Louise... (Now that we know her name, I will NEVER call her by the term that is given to females who give birth to a child or are legally their parent) That woman has broken Ethan again, and I will not hesitate to off on her. MC’s already unhinged, so I’d be super glad if we get to absolutely annihilate her.

MC’s PTSD might get brought up again, and I am 100% not ready.

Jackie’s up to something seriously not fine, and I’m scared af

Esme... we’re gonna have some serious déjà vu, and MC better find a good therapist, or at least get the hell away from Edenbrook with their Ll for a while.

We still have the budget cuts issue. And this here has me worrying about something...👇

What if this was a symbolic representation of MC’s future? What if they left Edenbrook? They’ve already offered to lose their job in order for the hospital to survive, and I’m terrified about this.

Sienna’s finally standing up for herself, and that was the only good part of this chapter (along with Ethan finally learning something😂). But she definitely couldn’t be over Danny’s death, and that’ll definitely be haunting her for a while.

Rafael still has an identity crisis, and I have no idea where PB is gonna take that.

Keiki’s still living with Bryce. What the hell is gonna happen with their parents?

At least they fixed our friendship with Aurora...

And I guess Elijah’s managed to become a decent mentor.

If you’re romancing Ethan, it’s extra stress. We need to figure out how to be in a proper secret relationship.

PB’s got all these storylines, and I haven’t the foggiest idea as to how the hell they’re gonna manage them all.

Altogether...

As long as we get as many chapters as Wetmess (thank god that shit’s over), I’m perfectly content with PB taking all the time they need to properly flesh out these storylines😌 but not at the cost of another fucking hiatus. They’d better have pulled their crap together in the past few months.

P. Q. T. U. for the Behind the Scenes asks!

So I just got home from work and feel a little slow - if you didn't mean for me to translate the letters to numbers, please let me know? Because I spent about 3 minutes staring at my computer in confusion. (work destroys my braincells!)

P = 16. What is your most underrated fic?

I think I'd have to say The Mountain of Fog and Bone. I can understand why it is, of course. It's tagged with Major Character Death, because several major characters from The Untamed die in it. But it's the set-up to a reincarnation series I hope to return to soonish! How can you reincarnate if you're not dead? And honestly, I'm really, really thrilled with how it turned out. Perhaps once the series is further underway, more people will give it a chance. Q = 17. What fic are you most proud of?

I think the fic I'm most proud of to date is Overlaid with Gold for a couple of reasons. 1) It was my first ever soulmate AU - I love reading them, but had never really tried my hand at writing them before this. Now, I'm not sure what kept me so long. 2) It features an ace Douglas Richardson. Being able to headcanon Douglas as ace makes me feel extremely happy and a little more represented. T = 20. What’s your favorite minor character you’ve written?

Oh, that's definitely going to be Gold Spirit from A Waterfall of Gold Sparks. He's got a whole five minutes of screen-time in the Yin Yang Master: Dream of Eternity, but over the course of that story, I've formed a very solid sense of how I perceive him, and now he lives in my head, rent-free. The other shishen are a very close second, but Gold Spirit is definitely the closest to my heart. U = 21. What is the one fic that got away?

I think that would have to be Reverse. I had every intention of writing more of this, and then depression struck, and stress happened, and I just haven't been able to go back at all. I still sort of hope to. It's not like some of my works-in-permanent-hiatus, where certain situations have killed my joy of the work and fandom, leading me to abandoning them. Reverse is Gundam Wing, and I still love the characters. I just need to make my brain work again!
