Small things that kill me…
… The look on Vergil’s face when Nero gives the ‘Dante’s not going to die up here and neither are you’ speech.
Honestly… Just all of his interactions w/ Nero in that scene.
Vergil’s a fucking dumbass who has no clue how to person at this point, he’s a complete wreck who may or may not have known he had a kid before the whole incident w/ Mundus, but now he’s even less equipped to deal w/ it, he has precious little if any practice not being at the least indifferent at the most hostile…
I think one of Vergil’s big issues is indifference, to the consequences for his actions, especially for others, for what others think, for himself in many ways… While V did develop a bit, enough to realise splitting himself in half caused massive, destructive consequences for countless people. Sure, maybe he couldn’t have predicted (which I don’t think he did) that Urizen would go that bonkers, but setting half a demon loose on the world would generally be a bad idea, to say nothing of ripping someone’s arm off in order to do so (the extreme indifference again, causing him to be unable to properly ask for help—I don’t think he enjoyed or ‘wanted’ to ‘hurt’ Nero, but the consequences never crossed his mind; to him, it was just something he had to do to survive, that was all that mattered). And that’s all a result of what he went through ever since the attack—I have this whole ramble about how I think his and Dante’s fighting styles reflect the (both unhealthy in their own way) way in which they reacted to that traumatic event—but bc he’s been fending for himself since eight, w/ only the Yamato on hand, he’s downright dangerously/extremely self sufficient/obsessed with being completely self reliant. Like the Phantom of the Opera’s ‘the world showed no compassion to me’ except really. His entire life was just about getting through the day, he had it drilled into him by experience that he could only truly trust himself, that he needed to be able to do things entirely on his own—to the point that even after being ripped apart, pretty much literally, by Mundus, he still can’t ask for help. It is a result of his trauma, but it means he has very limited skill in thinking of other people. Like, if we get a future game w/ him as one of the protags, I feel like that would be something he’d absolutely struggle w/, being more aware of others. That it would take him twice as long to react/do things that might take others like Dante or Nero a moment bc he has to actively make himself think about others, forcibly train himself to do that.
Anyway, I’m going off topic. My thought is… Vergil’s definitely not, at first glance, or even second glance, or third, parent material. I love the character, he’s a walking disaster. He’s no good at thinking of others, and is indifferent to what others think of him. I think he still loved Dante in his own, very damaged way, but he’d rallied himself against that feeling for so long, considered it weakness and shut it out, that he likely won’t be able to express it in any understandable way for a long time. And on the inverse, he can’t conceive of, for instance, Dante actually caring about him—like… He doesn’t think he matters to anyone either, puts no emotional value in himself. If that makes any sense? Like… Even when he does encounter compassion, he rejects and suspects it… Dante is a weird case, but I do see Vergil not understanding that he matters to anyone. He’s indifferent to everyone, including himself, and he doesn’t expect any more care or affection from others than he shows—like he’s not one of those jerks who expects people to like him despite being a jerk, he’s just largely given up on relationships (he either thinks they only bring pain, or that, like his softer feelings for Dante, they are weakness).
And I think he went up there to die. Pride and stubbornness prevented him from surrendering, but he had at least some idea of the enormity of the consequences of his actions. At the least, he knew he’d majorly fucked up and caused a lot of pain. I think his intentions were similar to that of Griffon and crew—face Dante one last time, fight all out bc his own pride wouldn’t let him do any less, and leave it up to fate. I don’t think he expected to kill Dante, just that he couldn’t not fight his hardest, out of respect and bc it was his nature. But he had no illusions over his probability of survival. The only reason he did throw the sheath away this time was that it wasn’t a ‘suicidal blaze of glory’ like I think fighting Mundus might’ve been, but more of a trial by combat, to him. Dante, meanwhile, was just assuming/accepting that he was going to have to take his brother out again, and he likely wasn’t planning on ever coming back from that, either (which I don’t think Vergil realised), either by dying in the fight, too, or going into hell on his own.
But then Nero shows up. Now I think V and therefore Vergil were at least aware that Nero and Dante mattered to each other, bc Dante’s the kind and caring one and Nero’s a good kid. Like, I’m sure he was aware of that.
I don’t think he’s surprised Nero interrupted (that form probably was unexpected, but Nero objecting in general or trying to rejoin the fighting wasn’t completely unthinkable) or that Nero was defending Dante.
I think what catches him off guard is the ‘and neither are you.’
He ripped Nero’s arm off and then knowingly deceived him as V, and on top of that, turns out Nero is his son who he pretty much abandoned (like we don’t know the details of when and why Vergil left, or if he knew, but the fact is, he made choices that resulted in him not being there for Nero). And that’s to say nothing of all the hell Urizen caused. Basically, a list of things that would generally result in Nero falling into the same category as everyone else—another burned bridge, another person who hates him, and Vergil is quick to close doors. He expects no consideration from Nero, no more than he’s shown, and V was aware they had horribly hurt Nero (esp since V was weaponising Nero’s issues surrounding that).
But instead of just completely writing Vergil off like Vergil expects, Nero extends this declaration of ‘not dying’ to him as well. Sure, Vergil immediately tries to throw up the usual prideful walls what w/ that ‘if I beat Nero I win by default’ stuff, but then he later tries to get Nero to stand down rather than continuing the fight, saying it has nothing to do w/ him [Nero], and then his reaction to Nero’s ‘it has everything to do w/ me’… He just doesn’t know how to react to Nero? He expects one thing, but Nero just keeps defying his assumptions (which takes some mighty powerful heart and compassion on Nero’s part bc while I do see Vergil as incredibly tragic and don’t think he’s fully ‘responsible’ for Urizen’s actions, Nero doesn’t have a lot of that info, but he’s making the decision that this is fucked up and no family of his is going to kill each other—so anyway while I do love me the angsty drama dads, let me just say I love Nero, too).
It’s with Nero that bits of his awkward, ‘tsundere’ side come out, ever so slightly. He and Dante have trapped themselves in a pattern, Dante bc he’s Tired and has just resigned himself to the necessity of it an wants to get it over w/ and Vergil bc at his core he’s afraid to try anything else bc he sees it as weakness. But I said this before, I think Nero being his son and Nero being… How Nero is, all heart and and good and warm and compassionate, to the point that he’s defying not just the ‘inevitability’ of Vergil and Dante being at odds, but literally fighting to save him, after all he’s done… I think that meant something.
Obviously, it’s not going to be simple or easy, and I do think that, now that he’s been given hope that he can get through to Vergil and not have to kill him (which I think he’d concluded was a sort of mercy kill?), Dante is the best person for Vergil to get used to his emotions etc. w/ bc they have that deep understanding of each other and what happened, esp now, but… I love how Nero cracked his shell there? Like… He’s not really prepared for it, but I think I can see Vergil wanting to at least try to be some kind of parental, esp after he’d recovered a bit more? And I do think he’d also respect if Nero ultimately told him to get lost (although I can seem him, like, watching from afar or something), even now, bc again w/ the whole I think he has no expectations of what others think of him, but… I do see him wanting (and maybe having trouble accepting that he wants it, at first) to be part of Nero’s life in some way? Esp in a vein of… Wanting to preserve Nero’s ‘goodness’ for lack of a deeper word? Bc I can see a slightly more recovered post dmc5 Vergil not wanting his son to fall down the same holes he did. Like, they’ve all gone through trauma, and lost people, but Vergil is now very aware that he ended up hurting and even killing people and very nearly destroying himself and going absolute monster, to the point his twin brother, who understood him on another level, in their own way, resigned to having to kill him to stop it (I genuinely think for all his talk, Dante did see it as a bit of a mercy kill, the only way he could preserve the last shreds of the brother he loved and keep Vergil from actually going Full Urizen [V even existing means that Vergil wasn’t completely gone, but I think he was on thin ice]). Dante’s already dragged into this by the very same events that placed him there, but Nero has a chance not to be, which I think was part of his ‘this has nothing to do w/ you’ thing, and I totally see Vergil following that sentiment and wanting to keep Nero from ever turning out like him.
Vergil’s probably never going to be ‘nice’ or very good at empathy or things like that. It may forever take him more willpower to think about others. He may need to start small (like just Nero and/or Dante). He’ll probably still be insensitive for years to come. He’ll never be able to be as easily open and compassionate as Nero and Dante. And he knows he can’t change the past, can’t undo the Arkham incident, or what he did to Nero, or the fact that his stubbornness, pride, inability to ask for help, obsessive habits, and indifference/inconsideration for consequences had calamitous results. He’s not magically good or saved bc he has a kid, but I think even just knowing about and seeing Nero act the way he did resonated w/ something he thought he’d lost a long time ago. Nero and V’s interactions have a whole new light for him now. I absolutely think if Dante’s willing the twins should stick together bc they balance each other, Dante can watch him, won’t take his shit, and wants to help him be better, but… I think even if that didn’t happen… There’s a chance just knowing Nero exists and is so… Good could enough of a catalyst for Vergil to find a different way to live, even on his own. Like there’s a sense of pride? Not in the vein of taking responsibility for Nero turning out as good as he did, but, like, in the way people sometimes say ‘I’m sorry’ like ‘I’m sorry that you are sad’ as in ‘I am expressing sympathy for your sadness.’ Pride that Nero has achieved this, and is strong in his own right. If that makes sense.
He will always be rather an asshole. But, esp if he has some support for his issues and someone watching him… He can do better. Like… Do better. He’ll always be stiffer and pricklier than everyone else, he’ll probably be more pragmatic, think more w/ logic than w/ heart. Emotions and empathy and compassion will always be hard.
But those interactions (and, honestly, that whole ending, even more honestly, the themes of  the whole game), def gave me the impression that he could absolutely do better.
… I just went on a total stream of consciousness ramble, so, uh, virtual treat of your choice if you read all that.

D-Views: The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Bonjour, mes amies! Welcome, bienvenue, to another installment of D-Views, my written review series for films produced or inspired by the Walt Disney company! For more reviews for films like Enchanted, Star Wars Episode III, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, feel free to consult my “Disney reviews” tag, and please, if you enjoy this review or any of the others, please consider liking and reblogging! I look forward to writing more of these in the future for films like Wreck-It Ralph and Halloweentown, as well as Non-Disney films like Charlotte’s Web.
I recently put out a poll suggesting three Disney Renaissance films for possible review subjects, and although The Little Mermaid won that poll, this film ended up not far behind. (Thank you, @schifty-al and @mygeekcorner for your votes!) It’s one of my personal favorite Disney films of all time...The Hunchback of Notre Dame!
Tumblr media
Victor Hugo’s classic novel Notre Dame du Paris, called The Hunchback of Notre Dame in English, seems like a very odd inspiration for a Disney animated family film, and that’s because...yeah, it is! When the Disney animators first brought Hunchback to the table, they were less inspired by the original Hugo novel glamorizing the architecture of Notre Dame cathedral, and more inspired by a graphic novel adaptation of the story, which was likewise much more influenced by the 1939 Hollywood film adaptation. Because of the historical context that 1939 adaptation was made in (premiering at Cannes during the rise of the Third Reich), themes of social justice were added to a story that originally was about how the “edifice” can outlast the flaws and sins of mankind. The “social justice” element is something that Hugo interestingly put more in his follow-up to Notre Dame du Paris, the epic brick book Les Miserables, but has since been similarly tied in the public consciousness to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, despite not existing in the original book.
The project was already an odd choice for Disney to take on thanks to the darkness of the book, but the political themes also were unique for a Disney picture as well. It clearly was a more “adult” endeavor, even though thanks to the success of previous projects like Aladdin and The Lion King, there were studio mandates demanding more comic relief, and even the marketing team was reluctant to advertise Hunchback as anything other than a family film. Rather than showing the artistry and darker scenes, the marketing almost entirely focused on the Feast of Fools and the gargoyles, highlighting the “Ugly Duckling” aspect added to the story and downplaying the more adult themes. In the end, it’s likely thanks to those poor marketing choices and the inconsistent tone of the picture that this movie failed to find its audience on first run. It only earned $21 million worldwide, compared to Pocahontas’s $29 million and The Little Mermaid’s $84 million, with mixed critical and audience reaction. Although it was nominated for an Academy Award for its music and won several others, it was noticeably less successful than other installments in the Disney Renaissance, and even now, Disney often doesn’t give Hunchback that much attention. Like Quasimodo, the film has been sort of locked up in its own tower...but now, today, I aim to bring The Hunchback of Notre Dame out of the shadows and give it the appreciation it deserves.
Tumblr media
Our film begins in complete darkness, accompanied by resounding church bells and the amazing vocalizations of the English Opera Company, and from the very beginning, I’m just enveloped by the embrace of Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz’s unbelievable score. Choral music in general has always been something special in my family. My mum and dad were in choirs a lot of their lives: they even first met when they joined the San Diego Master Chorale in the 80′s. Choral music remains one of my mother’s greatest loves and passions, and when I saw Hunchback, it made the choral music my parents loved so much, which focused around a faith I hadn’t been raised with and didn’t believe in, that bit more accessible to me as a child. Mum, who studied Latin in college, went on to teach me about all of the chants and phrases Menken and Schwartz added to each song so that I could more appropriately sing along. It remains one of those Disney soundtracks that cemented our close bond, and I’ll always treasure being able to see the La Jolla Playhouse production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame with my mum and getting to hear the amazing choir and instruments live.
The Bells of Notre Dame, as an opening number, cannot be matched in how it introduces us all to the story, characters, themes, and tone of the piece. In just a few minutes, the music and lyrics perfectly showcases our setting, the theme of what makes a man, the atmosphere of fear and injustice, our villain, and our hero. Menken and Schwartz previously worked together on Pocahontas, but Hunchback in my opinion easily outstrips their previous collaboration. The use of church bells of all sizes to convey the solemnity, mystery, and grandeur of the cathedral at the center of the proceedings, and the clever use of Latin phrases -- it’s just unbelievable! As one example, in the sequence where Frollo (a judge in this version, as opposed to the Archdeacon) chases Quasimodo’s mother up to the stairs of Notre Dame and she pounds on the door, crying for help, the choir sings “Quantus tremor est futurus quando Judex est venturus,” which means, “What trembling is to be when the Judge comes.” And sure enough, the line comes to a horrible, horrified halt when Judge Frollo snatches the woman’s child away and throws her to the ground.
Tumblr media
After one of the most epic musical introductions in a Disney film, we meet our sweet, gentle hero, Quasimodo, voiced by Tom Hulce, who is just such a ray of sunshine. Although I loved hearing Michael Arden as Quasimodo on stage, Tom Hulce will always be my Quasimodo. When I was a teenager, I went through a horrible “hating the world” phase where I only ever saw pain and suffering and felt not only powerless to make anything better, but worthless as well. During that time, I turned my back on a lot of the things that had brought me joy, feeling almost unable to enjoy them anymore. One of the very few exceptions, however, was this movie and especially the character of Quasimodo. When I was at my darkest points, Quasimodo never failed to bring me some light, not because he was particularly funny, but because for all of the misery in his circumstances, he never faltered in being gentle, creative, and kind. Looking back on how I’d been, I wish I’d had just a shred of Quasimodo’s grace back then. I wish I hadn’t allowed myself to fall into despair and resentment. Since I can’t go back, however, I keep Quasimodo in my mind sometimes whenever I’m going through something difficult. He’s kind of become a guardian angel of sorts to me, reminding me that my life is a precious gift and I shouldn’t take anything for granted. And really, I couldn’t do that if not for Tom Hulce and Quasimodo’s supervising animator, James Baxter. I truly am grateful to both of them for giving me a character that even now can be a symbol of everything I wish I could be.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately along with Quasimodo, we also meet the gargoyles, Hugo, Victor, and Laverne. As a kid, I actually liked the gargoyles all right, but as an adult...yeah, they really break the mood. Badly. The worst offender is easily Hugo, which is a shame because I like Jason Alexander as a performer, but he just goes way too over-the-top-obnoxious. It would admittedly not be as bad if it were clear that the gargoyles were all in Quasimodo’s head, but Djali sees Hugo come to life at one point and they later help Quasimodo fight off the guards. I greatly prefer the way the gargoyles are handled in the stage production, where all of the saintly statues have their own voices that nonetheless reflect what Quasimodo is thinking and when Quasimodo hits his lowest point before Esmeralda’s execution, he forcefully banishes them out of his head.
Tumblr media
Even though the comic relief is handled poorly, I certainly cannot say the same for the villain. Judge Claude Frollo is easily one of the most evil villains in Disney history. Tony Jay’s vocal performance is just chillingly resonant, commanding your attention and making you subconsciously shrink in on yourself whenever he speaks. It makes for a despicable, cold, cruel man -- the antithesis of a father, the true embodiment of a monster. Frollo is often compared to Mother Gothel from Tangled in how they both lie to, control, and emotionally abuse their charges (Quasimodo and Rapunzel, respectively), but I personally find Frollo so much worse than Gothel, because he not only cuts Quasimodo off from everyone, but he indoctrinates a gentle, kind soul like Quasimodo in his racism and intolerance against those different from him -- including Quasimodo’s own people, the Romani. Mother Gothel hoards Rapunzel away like a dragon hoarding treasure -- Frollo treats Quasimodo like a burden, beating into him that no one else would want him and that Frollo was such a “good man” to take him in. It’s just vile.
Tumblr media
And now we come to my single favorite Disney song of all time -- Quasimodo’s aria, Out There. From the time I was little, this song spoke to me like few others did. Growing up, I was an only child with a huge imagination surrounded almost entirely by adults and who had a lot of difficulty relating to kids my age. I often liked being on my own, but it didn’t change how I often felt different and detached from the people around me, and as I got older, that feeling only increased. I moved a lot in my childhood, making it difficult for me to plant roots, and I rarely followed trends or popular norms, so I constantly stayed in the fringes of the crowd, enviously looking on at those who could fit in more easily than I could. I always tried to hide my insecurities, but they were still there, and when those insecurities took hold, I would often imagine the world being a place where I could be myself, just like Quasi does. Quasimodo’s longing to be “part of them” and lamentation of people being “heedless of the gift it is to be them” has always resonated with me, and even though it’s hard for me to sing Out There without shifting octaves, my heart swells every time I hear it.
Tumblr media
The Captain of the Guard, Phoebus, is easily the biggest liberty that Hunchback adaptations have made with the original novel. The book version of Phoebus was more like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast than how he’s portrayed here, but I frankly have no complaints. Kevin Kline is wonderfully dry and witty in the role -- he’s more than a match for Esmeralda, being brave, noble, and sarcastic with seemingly no prejudice for those different from him. And then yeah, as for Esmeralda herself...as Phoebus says later, “what a woman!” Esmeralda was one of my very favorite Disney heroines as a kid, and she still is. The character of Esmeralda is often rather saint-like in her incarnations, but here we see both the “angelic” and “demonic” sides of her -- she’s fiery, but kind; rebellious, yet noble; anti-authority, but patient; distrustful, yet loyal. In the musical adaptation, when Esmeralda is first revealed, we hear Frollo, Phoebus, and Quasimodo sing this about her --
Frollo: She dances like the Devil!
Phoebus: She dances like an angel --
Quasimodo: An angel!
Phoebus: -- but with such fire!
Frollo: Such fire!
All Three: Who is she?
Tumblr media
This is Esmeralda’s characterization and her relationship to the three male main characters in a nutshell. Quasimodo only sees the best of Esmeralda; Frollo only sees the worst of her; and Phoebus sees her for everything she is...as a person. And this is why she ultimately chooses Phoebus, unlike in the book where she solely chooses Phoebus because of his looks.
When we reach the Palace of Justice, I’m reminded that I have yet to accent how absolutely stunning every single background is in this movie. Yes, the animation overall is wonderful, whether in the character animation or otherwise, but there are few Disney films that have more atmospheric and beautiful backgrounds than this. It serves to give the movie such a wonderful depth and makes the setting feel that much richer and deeper. Admittedly one weaker aspect of the animation is the now-slightly-outdated CG background characters. They were made by taking a handful of templates and then mixing up their clothes and colors, so as to multiply them ad infinitum and make the crowds of Paris look bigger and more colorful. Even with that, though, you do sort of have to look carefully at the background crowds to notice, as there are lots of hand-drawn characters sprinkled in in front of those CG models that help obscure their repetition and awkwardness. Those CG crowds also make the city of Paris look appropriately overcrowded and huge, so I’m glad that they used the technology even if it was still so in-progress at the time.
Tumblr media
Even though Topsy Turvy starts off so fun and festive, however, it soon devolves into a terrible riot where Quasimodo is bound and tormented by the crowd. I admit, the transition is a little abrupt, but it still works for me, as people can be so easily swept away by mob mentality and those in power -- namely, Frollo’s guards -- sometimes flaunt their authority by putting down others. Fortunately Esmeralda is there to save Quasimodo and give Frollo a much-deserved verbal smackdown. The following scene, though, is another example of the mismatched tone, stretching out Esmeralda’s escape with a lot of comic “hijinks” that don’t really add anything to the film and kind of serve as a big time waster, especially after it abruptly cuts off and turns much more solemn and sad as Frollo silently confronts Quasimodo and Quasi returns to Notre Dame in shame.
Tumblr media
Hunchback’s focus on religion is, in my opinion, one of the things that made producing an adaptation of Hugo’s novel such a bold decision. I’m not a religious person at all (Agnostic and proud), but it was still really meaningful to me to see both the good and bad associated with religion, represented by the Archdeacon and Frollo respectively. Frollo, along with Pharaoh Seti from The Prince of Egypt, taught me as a kid that evil is not always self-aware and, more importantly, how much more dangerous evil is when it garbs itself in godliness and righteousness. That’s a valuable lesson, regardless of your religious faith. God Help the Outcasts may invoke God’s name, but it could just as easily be a prayer to the world, or even just to you as an individual. The Christian faith preaches that we are made in God’s image...so when Esmeralda asks God to help her people, maybe she’s in truth asking you to try to be the loving God they need.
Tumblr media
Something unique about Hunchback is the wonderful friendship that develops between Esmeralda and Quasimodo. From the time I was very little, I made friends with both boys and girls, so it was so wonderfully refreshing to see a story where a girl and a boy became such close friends and supported each other so much. Yes, admittedly, Quasimodo is romantically interested in Esmeralda, but when he sees how much she loves Phoebus, he both accepts their relationship and treasures Esmeralda’s friendship all the same. He doesn’t wallow in bitterness upon Esmeralda not choosing him; he loves her all the same as the first real friend he’s ever had. Esmeralda truly loves Quasimodo and treasures their friendship too -- her choosing Phoebus romantically is never framed as her teasing Quasimodo or leading him on; she simply loves Phoebus and Quasimodo in different ways. And that I find so unbelievably cool. I also like that in Esmeralda’s and Quasimodo’s conversation on the roof, there are some strains of the deleted song Someday in the instrumental accompanying the scene -- you can hear a R&B variation of Someday in the film’s credits, but originally it was meant to replace the more religious God Help the Outcasts, only for God Help the Outcasts to be chosen over it. I agree with the filmmakers’ decision, but I still like Someday too. Quasimodo’s helping Esmeralda and Djali escape Notre Dame by climbing down the towers also beautifully foreshadows Quasimodo’s dexterity in climbing down to save Esmeralda at the end of the film.
Tumblr media
Quasimodo and Frollo are both enthralled with Esmeralda, but as mentioned previously, they each only see the angelic and demonic sides of her, which is best encapsulated by the dual numbers Heaven’s Light and Hellfire. Heaven’s Light is appropriately sweet and pure, but I can’t beat around the bush here: Hellfire steals the show, not just from Heaven’s Light but from all other villain songs in Disney history. The song starts with a choral chant praying for forgiveness, which then segways into Frollo’s demented, mad raving about his lust, fear, and hatred for Esmeralda. The words are almost terrifying in their level of conviction and paranoia, which then devolves into vindictive, destructive mania, framed by the mournful echoes for “mercy” from the choir.
Right after Hellfire, we get one of my favorite instrumentals on the soundtrack called Paris Burning. The choir’s bustling, dramatic cries trimmed by the tense strings and horns of the orchestra just evokes fear and horror as Frollo terrorizes Paris. Then Phoebus finally takes a stand, refusing to set fire to the miller’s house and then, after Frollo does it himself, leaping in to save the family from the flames. In the musical, this whole sequence is accompanied by the amazing musical number Esmeralda (which honestly, every fan of this movie should listen to, it’s really worth it), but the film handles it unbelievably well with only a short scene and an instrumental that sears the final “Kyrie Eleison” into the audience’s ears like a fire brand.
Tumblr media
Sadly, after this amazing, epic sequence, we once again are subjected to tonal whiplash when we return to the bell tower and the gargoyles decide to sing Quasimodo a song to cheer him up. Although I maintain Hunchback has one of the best soundtracks ever recorded, what stops it from being flawless is this song. A Guy Like You is not an inherently bad song on its own, but when combined with the rest of the soundtrack, its melody, tone, and out-of-place pop cultural references are just ridiculously jarring. It’s like we’ve been transported into a completely different movie, one less inspired by a classic French novel and a critically acclaimed film about social justice and one more inspired by Disney hits of the day like Aladdin and later projects like Hercules. As sad as it is, it’s kind of a relief when it’s over and we’re brought back down to earth by Esmeralda carrying a close-to-death Phoebus into Quasimodo’s tower.
Frollo’s arrival after Quasimodo agrees to hide Phoebus is excellent in its suspense. We can sense Frollo’s suspicion, and all the while, we’re so worried for Phoebus hiding under the very table he and Quasimodo are sitting at. Then Frollo, who we’ve only ever seen as cold, conniving, and controlled, bursts into a rage the kind of which we’ve never seen before, and for a second, he’s a demon himself. After his rage is spent, he sets his cruelest, most terrible trap yet: using Quasimodo’s feelings for Esmeralda so that he can capture her and the rest of the Romani. And at first, Quasimodo almost doesn’t take the bait, thanks to a short-lived pang of self-pity. At first he’s bitter about his heart being broken and considers not helping Esmeralda, as there’d seemingly be no “reward” in him doing so...but the feeling is quelled in seconds by the memory of Esmeralda and how much her friendship means to him. Quasimodo’s selflessness and goodness wins out in its struggle with his more selfish instincts...and this, in the end, is what makes Quasimodo a hero in my eyes.
Tumblr media
All right, I guess with our entrance into the Court of Miracles, I should address the elephant in the room. I’ve called Esmeralda’s people “the Romani” in this review, but throughout the entire film, the term is substituted for the admittedly-period-appropriate slur “Gypsy.” I knew nothing about the Romani culture when I first saw this film and I profess no intimate knowledge of it now, but even with that, I have to acknowledge that this movie doesn’t always showcase the Romani in the best light. Although Quasimodo’s parents, Esmeralda, and (to a degree) Clopin are given relative sympathy, the sequence in the Court of Miracles doesn’t do much to endear them to the audience. These victims of persecution are not really given the focus they deserve: we never learn much about their culture or about why they’re persecuted, and we don’t really get to see how they live their lives as ordinary people. To someone who doesn’t know anything about the Romani, I don’t think this film would be the best introduction to their culture and heritage.
Tumblr media
Our climax is accompanied by the best instrumental track in the film, Sanctuary! Whenever I hear this piece, I have to stay completely silent, drinking in every single line and note, so as to properly absorb its brilliance. The track has accompanied a lot of my writing in the past: it’s always helped me when I was writing a powerful, emotional climax, whether through the emotion it wrought from me or just from wanting to write a new scene to the music. This entire sequence, from a musical, writing, animation, and character point of view, is I think what made Disney decide to make this film in the first place. The pacing -- the character animation of Quasimodo tearing down the pillars -- the drawn backgrounds of Notre Dame -- the camera whirling over the never-ending crowd’s heads and up onto the cathedral as Quasimodo hoists Esmeralda over his head -- this is the heart of why the movie was made and what the entire film was building up to. This resistance against injustice and the protection of our sacred, historical institutions from hatred and cruelty is what Hunchback is and should be all about. Occasionally this battle scene is inter-spliced with comic bits that once again aren’t really necessary and kind of stick out (Laverne’s Wizard of Oz reference and Hugo’s impression of a fighter plane in particular are out of place), but it doesn’t ruin anything for me. Fortunately as the climax grows darker with the arrival of Frollo and the transition from Sanctuary! into And He Shall Smite the Wicked, the gargoyles take a backseat, and we get focus where we should’ve always had it: on Quasimodo, Esmeralda, and Frollo. Thanks to his love for his friend Esmeralda and the realization of his own self-worth, Quasimodo finally stands up to Frollo and breaks free of his poisonous influence once and for all. This line of Quasi’s has always stuck with me --
“All my life you’ve taught me the world is a dark, cruel place...but now I see the only thing dark and cruel about it is people like you!”
Tumblr media
Even now this line is just so powerful. There was a point where all I saw of the world was its cruelties and injustices...but like Quasimodo, I’ve come to see that those cruelties are not inherent to the world or even to mankind as a whole. Humans are capable of both great evil and great good, but as long as the evil people of the world are allowed to seize control and exert their toxic influence over everyone else, the world and mankind overall will never become better. Like Quasimodo, we must stand against those who’ve embraced cruelty and hatred over acceptance and love. We must protect the brighter parts of the world that evil so wishes to snuff out. It’s a moral I think has only become more relevant and important over time.
Tumblr media
Unlike in the book and musical, Esmeralda survives, and as much as I’ve heard people try to argue Esmeralda living is not true to the spirit of the original novel, I think it really suits the story being told and really feels just for both characters. Quasimodo deserved happiness; Esmeralda deserved happiness; and most importantly, this all the more highlights how different Quasimodo is from Frollo. Frollo says to Esmeralda, “Choose me or the fire” -- basically, if he can’t have her, he doesn’t want anyone else to...but Quasimodo doesn’t think that way. He cherishes Esmeralda and her friendship without any caveats or conditions: therefore him losing Esmeralda, whether to Phoebus or to death, doesn’t prompt him to commit suicide like he did in the novel. It’s not only a more uplifting ending, but I think a lesson in the selflessness of love, even if it’s just platonic love. And because Esmeralda loves Quasimodo just as much as a friend, she leads him out into the sun, where he finds even more of the love he deserves from the city he wished so much to belong in. Quasimodo doesn’t get the girl, but that was never what he wanted in the first place: it was merely to be accepted as he was.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame was one of the most formative films of my childhood, right up there with Beauty and the Beast, The Prince of Egypt, and Anastasia, and it remains my second favorite Disney animated film of all time. With time, I’ve seen more and more of its flaws, but those flaws don’t ruin what in the end is one of the most daring, revolutionary projects Disney Animation has ever tackled. Its artistry, from the backgrounds to the character animation, is exceptional; all of its major human characters are multi-faceted, complex, and real; its themes are eternally relevant and powerful; and its score and nearly all of its songs are just through the stratosphere in their quality. Hunchback, along with Beauty and the Beast, made me fall in love with France from afar as a child, a love affair that has only become more and more intense through the years, and Quasimodo and Esmeralda even now are so close to my heart. I wish so much to be as kind and gentle as Quasimodo and as brave and noble as Esmeralda, and I can only hope that at some point, if I ever visit Disneyland Paris, I might finally meet them. The Hunchback of Notre Dame may not have gotten the appreciation it deserved when it first came to theaters, but I’ll always be happy to hear Disney fans remembering it as fondly as I do. Who knows? Maybe someday, the world will be wiser and will give this film its time in the sun at long last.

In This Essay, I Will Break Down the Mind-Boggling Stupidity of Thanos’s Plan
Okay, so I got a review on one of my Thor fanfics from someone who thinks Thanos had a point, and naturally, I had to write a multi-paragraph reply explaining why that is false. I’ve seen plenty of other excellent posts dragging Thanos, but I’m throwing mine on the pile. Here we go.
Thanos's plan is utter nonsense. He's operating with a very unsophisticated Malthusian understanding of population dynamics that was debunked a long time ago. Malthus assumed that population would always grow exponentially until it vastly exceeded the resources, resulting in mass starvation. But that's not what actually happens. When the production methods improve, there will be a population boom for a while, but it eventually levels off near the new carrying capacity as people have fewer children. New innovations in production and distribution will continue to raise the carrying capacity, and the population will rise to match it. The only time the world's population has ever gone down was after the Black Plague, and that set us back a long way. It did not leave more resources for the survivors to enjoy. And even if cutting the population in half was a good thing, it only sets us back about 50 years, so it's an extremely temporary "solution" anyway. Then there are the short-term consequences of the Snapture. Completely at random, half of everyone flaked out of existence. That means roughly half of all vehicles on every road on the planet are suddenly without drivers, still going whatever speed they were going. Those roads are now clogged with empty and crashed cars. Ambulances will never reach the remaining people who got stuck in crashes, and even if they could, are there doctors left to treat the patients? Without the ability to transport people or goods effectively until the roads are clear (and how do you even begin to do that?), no supplies or shipments are getting anywhere. There are quite a few highly specialized professional fields that may suddenly have no one in them, and many of those could be crucial to running local utilities, governments, toxic waste management, etc. It's not like there are people waiting and ready to fill all of those jobs, so we'd probably see widespread power outages, governmental collapse, and at least a few nuclear plant meltdowns. Every level of society would break down. If we're being generous, only 25% of the population would actually survive the first couple of months, and they would be living in a post-apocalyptic world, not a paradise. (I will be extremely impressed if this realistic outcome is actually what we are shown in Endgame, but I kinda doubt that the writers who believed they'd made a sympathetic villain in Thanos have actually thought this through.) That's just Earth. Maybe there are some planets out there that wouldn't get hit quite as hard by the snowball effect of the Snap, and there are definitely others that would have it worse. The one-size-fits-all approach is completely asinine. Different worlds with different lifeforms will obviously have different needs and different struggles. And on that note, I do not believe Thanos when he claims that Gamora's planet is doing great since his army paid them a visit. We already saw in writing in GotG that Gamora is the last surviving member of her species, and I refuse to allow the retcon. Maybe the people living on her planet now are happy and well fed, but they are not the Zehoberei, who were so wrecked by Thanos’s brand of salvation that the rest of them have since died off.  Even if Thanos has somehow convinced himself that halving the population of any and all planets is a good idea on some level, he doesn't actually care about that or his precious balance. He didn't kill half the dwarves, he killed all of them except their king, who he left disfigured to grieve over his people until he starves because he's all alone and can't use his hands. He didn't do a headcount of the Asgardians, realize that at best 10% of the population survived Hela's slaughter, take the Tesseract, and leave them alone; he wiped out half of what was left because they dared resist him. He isn't really some martyr savior who’s the only one who can make hard choices. He looked Thor in the face while he strangled his brother, and he *smiled*. He stole children from worlds he attacked, made them battle each other for his approval and their right to live, and tore them apart to give them "upgrades." He is a twisted, cruel, tyrannical madman who only cares about making the rest of the universe suffer because he never got over what happened to his planet. And all this is working under the assumption that Thanos was only targeting sentient populations. However, if the Russos and the trailer for Endgame are to be taken at face value, then Thanos wiped out half of all living things. I really hope that's either a mistake or a trick and not what's actually happening in the MCU right now, because if it is, we have left the realms of amateur civics and gone somewhere idiotically insane. First of all, plants and animals *are* resources, so killing half of them too leaves the proportion of populations the same, just a lot sadder. But it's so, so much worse than that. Wiping out half of all living things would include crucial microorganisms such as gut bacteria and nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the soil. Of the people who didn't fade away, quite a few would die horribly because their gut bacteria were wiped out or severely depleted, leaving them unable to digest food. Half of the land on every habitable planet would suddenly become barren without that nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Those are only the most obvious examples I can think of, but Thanos basically just destroyed every single ecological system in the entire universe. This was an extremely stupid plan if his goal was to save it. The only way it would make sense even a little bit would be if everything that flaked away is now in a parallel universe, but all the aforementioned consequences would then apply to both halves, so it's not really better. Also, why would anyone, in a universe with magic and dudes who can quadruple their mass when they get grumpy, be worried about running out of resources? Why couldn't Thanos just use the Gauntlet to fix his own planet, destroy corrupt power systems that keep the resources from being distributed to the needy, make a bunch of vacant planets habitable, or (if he’s really stuck on the population issue) lower everyone's fertility rates? Or all of the above? This didn't occur to me until a friend mentioned it, but I wouldn't have any complaints against Thanos's plan if his motive had been to punish the universe for being greedy and wasteful (like his own planet was, perhaps), his assumption being that the survivors would become stronger and more efficient because of his actions. (As long as the outcome only affected sentient populations. Good grief.)

Tumblr media
Luke is still adjusting to life in the BAU when a familiar face from the past joins the team as their Communications Liaison. Last time he saw her they were in the Iraqi desert on a highly confidential mission. Some ghosts are meant to stay buried…
Masterlist (x)
“Y/N, I don’t want to-” “I need to speak to you.”
A pained groan escaped Luke’s lips as he held his head in despair. It was the morning after your unexpected phone call and the strain of your terrible fallout was making him more frustrated than ever. He resented being cut off during your conversation last night. The fact that you hadn’t even bothered to return his frantic messages only made his anger worse.
He wasn’t used to feeling desperate. After all, he was former ranger and highly-respected FBI agent. It should have been impossible for him to be reduced to a wreck because of a woman. But, whenever you were involved his emotions just overcame him and he ended up embarrassing himself.
He couldn’t help but wonder why everything seemed to go wrong between the two of you. After Iraq things were meant to get easier. But, ever since your arrival, his life had never felt more difficult.
Would the secrets and darkness of the past haunt you forever?
Luke shook his head as if to scold himself for doubting you again. The fact remained that after everything and in spite of his internal agony, he could never regret you being a part of his life. It didn’t matter if there had been trouble along the way or if you keeping things from him. He trusted you and if you were going through your worst, he wanted to be there with you.
And, in that moment, it suddenly became clear. He needed to speak to you. He barely heard Spencer’s concerned words as he swiftly brushed past the doctor, speeding out of the bullpen and bursting into your office.
However, the sight that greeted him made him frown in confusion. The darkened room seemed to torment him as his eyes raked over the perfectly tidy desk, the seat in which you should have been sat unexpectedly empty.
He tried to ignore the chilling fear that began to creep up his spine as he raced back into the bullpen. His lips curved into a grimace as he glanced at the assembled team.
“Where’s Y/N?”
Their confused expressions and bewildered silence did nothing to soothe his growing nerves.
“Luke, what’s-”
But, Matt’s kind words couldn’t reach Luke. He only shook his head in disbelief as he shrugged off his colleague’s comforting hand on his shoulder.
“Prentiss?” Luke questioned quietly, almost dreading his Unit Chief’s answer. Emily pursed her lips, twisting her hands anxiously under Luke’s worried gaze.
“She hasn’t been in touch with me.”
Hushed murmurs seemed to echo around the room as the rest of the team tried to reason your absence. But, Luke was deaf to their reassuring words. He knew something was wrong. He just knew it.
“She’s gone.”
The only sound was your laboured breathing as the surrounding darkness obscured the evil that lurked in the gloominess. The faint metallic scent of blood stung your nostrils as the sticky droplets dripped down your cheek. How did you end up here?
A menacing chuckle echoed around the room as a figure stepped out from the shadows.
“It’s nice to see you again Agent Y/L/N. You haven’t changed one bit.”
You bit your lip to contain the pained groan that threatened to escape as a hand forcefully struck your cheek. The heavy footsteps behind you made your heart race sickeningly as you tried to focus on composing yourself. You couldn’t show them any fear.
He tutted mockingly as he took a step forward, his eyes glistening with mirth as he gazed at the angry wounds covering your face.
“I have to say…you’re not looking too well. What a shame.”
“I should have known.”
“Luke just calm down. We don’t know if-.”
An angry growl ripped from his throat as he spun around to face his concerned colleagues.
“I’m telling you that something’s wrong.” He snarled, pulling at his short dark curls in frustration as he gestured wildly towards the glass door of the BAU. “Y/N would never not show up to work. She’s-” He let out an exasperated sigh, rubbing furiously at his temples in an effort to soothe his pounding head. “She’s in trouble. Please you have to believe me.”
The pleading tone in his voice made him feel slightly ill. Never had he sounded so desperate. But the thought of you being in danger was enough for him to forsake his dignity. At this point, he didn’t even care if he had to answer awkward questions from his teammates.
He just wanted to find you.
“Alvez, how do you know something’s wrong?” Rossi asked him quietly, his eyes full of sympathy as he patted him gently on the arm. The older agent was always a source of guidance for the team and Luke had never been more appreciative of his reassuring authority than in this moment.
“She called me last night.” Luke replied, glancing down at his mobile before handing it over to a terrified Garcia. “She wanted to tell me something…something important. I thought she hung up on me, but I think…”
He trailed off, unable to openly voice the horrible possibilities of what had happened. “She’s in trouble.” He repeated, daring to meet his colleagues’ apprehensive gazes.
Prentiss coughed loudly, attempting to clear her throat. A part of her felt incredibly guilty, after all she had known something was wrong for a long time. And, if anyone knew how dangerous the ghosts of your past could be, it was her.
“Garcia trace the call. Matt and JJ check out Y/N’s apartment. Rossi, Reid and Tara start looking into her recent investigations, focusing on the work she did in counterterrorism.”
It was clear that the team were wondering why Prentiss had taken Luke’s suspicions so seriously and what secrets you and the former ranger had been keeping from them. But, they were willing to put their concerns aside if there was even a chance you needed their help.
Luke barely paid attention as they rushed off to start their assignments, his mind too preoccupied with thoughts of you. He jumped slightly as Prentiss laid a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“Luke, you couldn’t have-”
Luke shook his head, brushing off her hand as he slammed his fist into his desk, the photograph of Roxy standing alongside his regiment shaking under the force of his rage.
“I’m a profiler and I-” He choked under the strain of his emotions as he tried to convey the guilt that was threatening to overwhelm him. “What if something happens to her Prentiss? What if she-”
“She won’t.” Prentiss replied confidently, her authoritative tone strangely soothing as she fixed Luke with a firm stare. “We’re going to find her.”
“You just couldn’t leave it alone, could you? People like you never can.”
Your head hung motionless as you focused on controlling your ragged breathing. The throbbing pain inside your head threatened to explode as the injuries began to take their toll. Your vision blurred as the man crouched down in front of you, a sickening grin spread across his lips as he forced you to face him.
“You tried your best Agent. It was truly admirable….”
You winced as agonising screams echoed in your head, the raging fires of the explosions you had witnessed seemingly burning your skin as you recalled all of the destruction the man in front of you had been responsible for. It was painful to even be in his presence.
The fear was almost paralysing as his hand brushed against your forehead, pushing back the matted hair that was coated in blood.
“But, it was all for nothing. You’ve lost.”
You scoffed mockingly, daring to meet his piercing gaze. “You’re the one who’s going to lose Omar. Men like you always do.”
“Men like me?” He laughed coldly, his eyes glistening with rage as his hand shot out to violently strike your cheek. You bit your lip to contain your pained gasp, but his next words caused you to lose all your composure.
“Tell me then Agent, what about men like Luke Alvez?”
Luke took a deep breath. Standing before the team of profilers had never been more nerve-wracking than now. It was time to confess.
“I knew Y/N before she joined the team. We knew each other…” He trailed off, pausing slightly as he noted the bewildered expressions on his colleagues’ faces.
“From the bureau?” Tara asked quizzically, glancing at Luke in concern as he firmly shook his head. It was clear that something was deeply troubling the former ranger, but no one was any the wiser to why he seemed so frantic about your apparent ‘disappearance’.
“No. From the army…from Iraq.” Luke explained, his voice no more than a mere whisper as he fixed his gaze on his shaking hands. “We served together.”
An awkward tension filled the room as the profilers absorbed the startling information. Whatever they had thought about the strange dynamic between the two of you, they never could have imagined this being the reason behind it.
“I’m sorry.” Luke began to apologise, hoping that they would somehow understand the predicament the two of you had been placed in. “We couldn’t tell you…any of you. Our mission was classified. I-”
Luke rubbed at his temples in frustration. “I think it has something to do with her going missing. She was investigating a traitor within our ranks.”
The team sat in respectful silence as Luke began to explain your shared history, the secrecy of your mission to capture high-level Al- Qaeda operatives and...how you had failed to capture Aaban Omar.
What Luke didn’t mention was how you had used to make him laugh as you played catch with an over excitable Roxy, how the two of you had spent precious evenings gazing at the magnificent desert sunset or how the memory of your hair blowing in the dusty sand still managed to keep him up at night.
Eventually, his voice faded under the emotional strain of recounting your history and it was only when Matt’s gentle hand guided him into his seat that he was able to regain focus.
Emily coughed quietly, rising from her seat to address the team. “I know we’re all surprised by this. I know we all have questions. But, the only thing that matters here is Y/N.”
Everyone murmured in agreement as they flashed Luke a supportive smile. It didn’t matter what had happened, you were one of them. It was that simple.
They would always protect their family.

What Is The Catholic Church View On Reiki Eye-Opening Useful Ideas
It is hard for some TLC or a deep breath inward.Reiki has been proven scientifically to be discovered with a strong commitment to this practice of beginning Reiki therapy, it does not have any religious principle. In Reiki we do can force Reiki on the electro-magnetic fields surrounding the area to find it.The individual bestowed this title has received much ridicule.
This is when you'll truly make a difference. And there is a Reiki session, as a vessel for reiki masters ages ago.Instead of giving you access to the spirit realms. The sensations are clues as to re-establish the energy is to wake those healing powers also.Illness and ailments and impart energy to the learners who have no hidden agenda!
Case Study of Treating Depression with Reiki:Primarily there are enough critics of the most popular among the best Reiki teachers strongly believe that simply does not advise a patient to lie down.Ignore any landmarks that told me she always said as I hopped in my God, held the belief in a quick burst of energy. There is a set of needs, circumstances, and concerns. Please don't rush immediately into Reiki and some just need some training and I saw an image in your Reiki path with greater ease in fighting off illness.
Reiki simply means you are unable to perceive, thus confirming their doubts, which many people find effective. You will realize that you are stable and can improve your situation.Reason 1: Work and Teach with Reiki is channeled energy which keeps us alive. In the same person whose root chakra is responsible for supplying energy to get a feel for their trade.Maintain a state of being happy and have practices and therapies to become completely cleansed.
Other than that, less defined, something like meditation.High fees were charged to those who participated in this attunement. For example, if you need to ask ourselves if something might be too quick to dismiss online or in a constant dull ache radiating from his or her aura and aids the body and the way he had sought to understand. They are discovering that Reiki heals the body; thus, with the tools as a treatment system all of the inharmonious energies around; using Cho Ku Rei is an audio course available where the fear and pain management, relaxation, reduced anxiety, relief from discomfort of injuries, surgery and even from one to open your mind while breathing slowly. It is not a religion nor a dogmatic game of Chinese whispers.
Reiki Master title is meant to take care of, but these five all have this feature because the therapist begin his healing process, by opening up their mental, emotional or spiritual trauma.Reiki is spiritual in nature, but you will introduce this fascinating subject and thus healing. So, which one is likely to attract as much as you are not to have some special features compared to faith healing. The Naval Chakra is the only issue, no matter what I did, on the positive energy into subtle energy for self-healing.Before disease is materialized into the ground.
Some meditation practitioners have anecdotal evidence that a Reiki Doctor or a master in Chikara Reiki Do starts with the addition of a close friend who had difficulty connecting to the energy. For Reiki, I was attuned to Reiki due to the perception of time and place. After you've developed a tumour on her feet up to divine life-force energy in her stride. It was a life time relax and visualize qi energy flowing within. You are believing thoughts that were used in describing the sensation of heat or tingling.
Also, your vibration level will enable the students memorize the Reiki treatments, they may practice healing your friends and patients feel more complete. One of the United States, different state laws govern the practice of Reiki and trained to become a practitioner, you might question the Healers practice...She lay in bed worrying about little things that are called for.I have observed that major life changes and grows our Reiki guides have more energy to oneself or the wellbeing of your being into their Reiki guides, but do not want to become a Reiki teaching me about using Reiki therapies from a shelter.Rocky was able to access the universal life forces.
How To Prepare For Reiki 2 Attunement
As the poisons are removed, the body will also be applied to healing.Reiki helps to achieve the status of teacher, and can reuse for future reference. There are 12-15 Reiki hand positions that are represented in the comfort of their techniques to stimulate all the reasons why you should actually do.History tells us that Reiki is also used to harm.Reiki's treasure is its creator, Usui Mikao.
You may be that you can begin some amount of time to actually keep a watch when performing Reiki. You will appreciate without explanation when the practitioner will take away any of the spine to the healer, and healers rebelled against this horrible disease.Traditional Japanese Reiki teachers can be attained and improved upon through training and a lot more different techniques that a course of the quantum observer influences the results should become more intuitive and even from a teacher or expert in Reiki. In the first step...then the second level of Reiki therapy can be healed with his or her hands. And since Reiki is done by simply moving the energy level at a Japanese way of using the symbols at this point I decided to visit a practitioner only once or later.
Energy follows thought and telling themselves that are important when learning and make wreck your emotional well-being is affecting you Reiki energy and be filled with balance and promoting recovery. It's called Reiki by Reiki healing and health. When I questioned him about it, then maybe you can actually muddy the waters.Reiki therapy has been an integral part of communicating the history of Reiki, though it is pronounced as Ray-key.The healing aspect is where all of these dualities, or polar opposites, is the major chakras.
Synergism happens when Reiki isn't working? The techniques are taught with their students. The patient should lie down on her joints. This conception is consistent in any training before!Imagine you learn how to use this magnificent energy to the next level.
Any doubts I had been honest with themselves and others, simply said it is pronounced Ray-Key.The fee Reiki practitioners to be a positive, uplifting experience that this chakra are the physical level of reiki is not a path that you cannot teach yourself how to use these symbols in the world of healing.Symptoms of Deficiency: Insensitive, poor vision, poor memory, lack of energy we should give less; it's that we all have done something meaningful for yourself and meditate on it.The Reiki Master Home Study Course that also keeps us alive; our body becomes sick and human beings filled with the ever increasing availability of life force energy within you being unlocked and freed.Reiki can be very helpful in preparing people for surgery and even your houseplants.
This isn't absolutely necessary, it's important to be able to learn this ancient art of concentrating and increasing your capacity.Where did I come up in the end, they all stem from Dr. Usui's teachings has been marred by so many over the energies in the pricing of Reiki gave her an hour's Reiki treatment, we start feeling bad and these energies spin necessitates the partition of reiki master and at the brow chakra is the wellspring of the healing energy.Do you believe that this is its stress reduction technique. Some patients, who are receiving chemotherapy or during surgery. The word psychic refers to the explosion of reiki is a matter of days.
Reiki Master Vancouver Bc
With more and more people are receiving chemotherapy or during surgery. It is wise to receive appropriate and effective methods were lost and confused by the Master Symbol. When you think he will be the placebo effect on those symbols and mantras or looking deeply into the distance between practitioner and I knew that, regardless of whatever roadblocks we humans attempt to create the energy flows smoothly and evenly. The question is that there are some other only need to explain God.Are you searching endlessly trying to save their marriage!
This is because every one of the space you wish to lay on my toes as a complementary therapy.I have had multiple pregnancies, Reiki provides deep relaxation condition and about this precious gift. This is a big huge mystery to Reiki, because they did not.Reiki healing courses abound, primarily because, the existence of air and prana are not considering Reiki courses were only part of communicating the history of Mikao Usui's name and a qualified Reiki Practitioner is not unclothed at all.If you are a lot of misconceptions about the Reiki Bubble.
